The great polish sort of 2011

So remember the other day when I said I would be reorganizing my Helmers by color? Well I did that yesterday afternoon! Now I never want to sort anything ever again, it felt like it took forever haha. I know people like to see stash pictures so here ya go! And to answer the inevitable question...nope I didn't count them. I've decided to remain blissfully ignorant as to the amount of polish I have haha! You can click on all of these pictures to see them bigger if you'd like to :)

First up I took all my Helmer drawers outside and put them on the table out there. I had planned on doing this inside but that ended up being impossible between having a dog who wants to be involved in everything I'm doing and a cat that wants to lay on whatever I'm doing lol.

In addition to all that up there I also had this bag FULL of polish, it was so heavy it was hard to carry! Also back there is my bright as heck new chair too! My other one died the other night but this one is way better and it's pretty...and pink! yay Ikea!

Then I got to sorting...I put everything into piles by color. Clearly I have a problem buying colors like blue, green & purple. Those 3 piles are the biggest.

Look at that sad White polish pile...I though I had more white polish...go figure

These were my non-color specific special piles that included duochromes, holo's, multi color glitter, layering polish i.e. flakies etc...

Look a nice clean table ready to put all my pretties back!

Closer look at the inside of my Helmer drawers. I had a fug squishy pad thing in there before but I changed that out yesterday. Isn't it pretty?!? For those wondering that is shelf paper, I got it from Target. It's got a bit of squish to it which helps the polish not fall over when I open up a drawer.

annnnnnd success, done! Everything is in it's proper drawer. I de-stashed even more than I had the other day while I was refilling the drawers! I think by this point I have purged maybe half of my stash. There is no way I could have fit everything in my Helmers had I not massively purged...yikes!

Some more angles, you know you want them lol

My most favorite drawer of all, the one I'd grab if there was some kind of disaster like a fire. Holo's & Duochromes/Multichromes.

And finally, they are all back home happy snuggling in the Helmer. Please excuse my weak photo skills. Apparently I fail at taking a straight picture. I took 3 and this was the best. The crown stickers on the front are also from Target. They are supposed to go on a wall, Target seems to have about a bazillion designs to choose from if you're into that kind of thing.

  4. I LOVE stash pics. I'd love to hear how you feel about organizing polish by color vs. brand?

I haven't quite made my mind up yet. I think it will help a lot with not buying dupes, or being able to find dupes easier! At least I hope so lol

  6. Oh my goodness! You have so many! You could open a shop :)

  7. Wow, great organization. I'm going to need some like that pretty soon.

You've got to have at least 300 polishes. Your blue section is about as big as my whole nail polish collection! This means I need to buy more.

  8. Your comment about which drawer you'd grab if there was a fire made me actually laugh out loud! There's something so peaceful about sorting. I'm glad you got yours done.

  9. I love this post so much!

Besides holos/duos/multichromes, did you pull out any others by finish (such as glitters)?

I only pulled out the glitters that were multicolored or the sheer ones that I only layer with. I thought about pulling them all out but decided not to

  16. Oh what an amazing collection!:D It might sound weird but that must have been so much fun! Until you get to the stage halfway through, anyway, where you're like ' why did I start this?'! lol! Seriously though you did a fantastic job:)

  17. Wow, you are so organised! Looks like alot of work, but I bet you can find the right polishes sooner than I can. I'm so unorganised....

  18. I have problems buying blue and purple tones too, always in great number!
But now that I discovered my allergy ( here in Brazil some companies still produce with the big3 components), my collection diminished a lot! But my little stash makes me happy, that's the point. And so true! Last time I put them out of the drawer to sort the ones I would give away, my cat lay down on them, like, "what about me?" LOL

    take care!

  20. WOW, I mean really wow. That´s a huge collection :-) I´m a bungler comparing to you, really. Just started couple of months ago, my boyfriend thinks I´m completely flathead :-)
Love your Helmer with those pretty crowns.

  21. Love that shelf paper! Looks way better than the bumpy looking stuff I'm using lol. And way to go organizing your stash! I need to do this too... I stopped counting my polishes when I got a little too close to 4 digits =X

  28. I need those stickers. :D

What a job. And, what a stash you have. Yanno, rather than purging, you could have just bought another Helmer...

  29. @Ice Queen

I thought about doing that, but I don't have room for another Helmer :(

  30. Ah I love stash pics! Thanks for posting. I am so OCD when it comes to organising and I live for moments like reorganising my polishes by colour. In fact I wish I had more, just so I could keep on organsing them haha. Great collection.

awesome! It's such a pretty pattern!

  33. I do mine by brand. When my BF surprised me with a nail polish rack last year, he was going to put some of my polishes up by color. Good thing he didn't cause I have an order on how they go in my head and it's not by color. LOL!

I got my Melmers set up not too long ago. So glad I got those. You have a huge collection!

  34. How long did it take from start to finish for you to do this? I love your collection and hopefull my collection will be as big!!!

  35. @Arlyn

almost 4 hours all together! I actually thought it was going to take longer than it did lol
