Deborah Lippman Happy Birthday vs. Ulta Pinata-Yada-Yada

Good Morning! Happy Monday!

A while back in one of Ulta's mailers there was a picture of a new Salon Formula polish they had that immediately looked like it might be dupey to Deborah Lippmann's Happy Birthday polish. Ever since I saw that mailer I've been waiting for my Ulta to start stocking the polish. They finally did so I grabbed a bottle the other day! In the bottle they look similar but very different color wise. The Ulta polish, which is called Pinanta- Yada-Yada looked to be a bit brighter than Happy Birthday. On the nail they are much more similar looking! The formula was also very similar, I guess how much can that really differ though when we are talking about glitter in a clear base lol.

The main difference here is that Happy Birthday has small square glitter and Pinata-Yada-Yada has small hex glitter. Other than that no huge differences. If you have an Ulta near you this is a great alternative and it's much cheaper. Right now Ulta has a sale on their Salon Formula polishes going on, 2 for $4! Not sure when that ends but if you pick this up during the sale it's really a great deal!

Below is 2 coats of Ulta Pinata-Yada-Yada and 2 coats of Deborah Lippmann Happy Birthday over Nubar White Peony.

  1. You know, I think I like Pinata-Yada-Yada better. I know blasphemy! It looks like it has more pink in it, perhaps that is why.

LOL to be honest, I kinda like the Ulta one better too. Especially in the bottle...it looks a million times better than the Lippmann does in the bottle!

  4. Only immediate different I see with the macro shot is the tiny glitter in DL is square and the ULTA one is hex.

  5. Wow, they do look really similar! Unless I look at them through a magnifying glass or something, I can't really tell them apart.

  6. Almost identical! I like dupes, especially when they are a lot cheaper for us folk that can't afford expensive polish =)

  7. They look close enough to me! I saw PYY the other day but didn't grab it. I have this glitter aversion...

  8. :) I stumbled on this on at my local Ulta...I LOVE that it is MUCH cheaper, I think it applies really nicely and I LOVE the hex glitter...my first mani had lots of the gold hex glitter which really helped brighten it up....check out my blog for my review...I called it my Rainbow Chip Birthday Mani :)

  10. I wonder why all these HB dupes aren't using small square glitter :S I have Milani Gems w/o the pink glitter... I wish it had the pink :'(

  11. What a great Dupe! Not perfect...but i think I'm preferring the Pinata too! you wouldnt be able to tell the difference unless you had your microscope out, so its a great cheaper alternative!

  13. I personally don't love Happy Birthday or its dupes. but do think Happy Birthday is a cute and easy birthday gift, and not to mention since the DL bottles are fancy, this polish looks great on display in a bathroom!

  20. @cilucia

I wonder that too, maybe they don't want to straight up dupe the Lippmann but it seems like it would be easy enough to add small square glitter instead of small hex glitter

aww why do you hate Ulta? You should buy it online so you don't have to go into the store!

  22. glad you guys like this! I love finding cheap alternatives to really expensive polishes like Deborah Lippmann! Now if someone would just make one with the small square glitter it would be a perfect dupe!

  23. Darn I wish I'd waited to buy this Happy Birthday dupe!

  26. Love your HB swatch! I wish the new ones had square glitter too! The one in my Get This Party Started set has all hexagonals. I checked the individual ones being sold and they don't have square glitter either! Kind of bummed out about that since it's now completely dupeable.

  27. @Liz

I didn't know they had changed the glitter, that sucks. you're right about it being totally dupeable now :( at least it was a little special with the square glitter

  28. Thank you so much for this! I was dying to get Happy Birthday but it costs a fortune... and I managed to find the Ulta one on eBay for a lot less. Hooray! (When it comes to polish, I SO HATE LIVING IN FINLAND!)

  29. :) i just bought Nicole by OPI Glitter on the S-Kylie from the Kardashian collection, and it is almost an exact match of Pinata-yada-yada. Also OPI muppet collection Rainbow Connection is really similar :)
