We're going to start with my personal favorite of the collection, Stranger Tides. This one is a light murky grayed out khaki green...totally up my alley. It was a bit sheer and patchy going on, use a light touch with this one! I used 2 semi thick coats for full opacity on most fingers but there were a couple nails that needed a 3rd coat to even everything out.
Skull & Glossbones is another murky looking color, a grey with a hint of brown. I feel like this has been a shade that we've seen a couple times already this year, but I still like it! The formula was good, the first coat looked very sheer but it was perfect after 2 coats.
Steady As She Rose is a very light lilac, looks like maybe a hint of grey to dirty it up a bit! When I saw this in the bottle it reminded me of Nice is Nice from Essie's Spring collection but it is a lot lighter and not even close for those wondering. This was a bit sheer and streaky at first, I used 3 coats to even everything out.
Mermaid Tears is a dusty jade green. Love this on and the name! Even if I didn't like the color I'd probably pick it up for the name only, I'm weird like that. Formula was great I used 2 coats for full opacity.
Guys, for once a comparison I don't have to promise then get to weeks later. I always have the best intentions of doing comparisons but life and new collections get in the way. Usually I have to go through my entire stash looking for possible dupes of things but I happened to have Orly Ancient Jade already sitting on my desk! Ancient Jade came out with Orly's Precious Collection for Spring this year and was one of my favorites. Guess what...Mermaid Tears is very very dupey to it. Ancient Jade is the slightest bit darker but it's not very noticeable. The main difference is the formula, the Orly is a bit thicker and I can get away with using 1 coat. If you have one you don't really need the other, in my opinion.
Sparrow Me The Drama (best named polish in the collection right?!?) is a dusty rosy pink. Normally something I don't give a second look but ended up really loving...go figure! The formula was great, I used 2 coats for full opacity.
Planks A Lot is a very dusty purple creme. Another one of my favorites from the collection. Great formula again, it went on so smooth and creamy...I love that! I used 2 coats for full opacity!
Now, probably the most anticipated part of this collection...Silver Shatter!!! I layered it over a few things and it looks fantastic over all of them. Formula was great and the shatter looks awesome. I was a bit worried after the pain in the rear that was the purple shimmery crackle polish from China Glaze's Crackle Collection. I thought maybe sparkly crack polish just wasn't meant to be. OPI proved me wrong! Please OPI, make more of these sparkly shatters I am blown away by how fab this looked and need more!
Silver Shatter dries a bit matte, I used a top coat over it for all of these photos. It's still very sparkly without a top coat but more sparkle is always a good thing!
Silver Shatter over Sparrow Me The Drama
Silver Shatter over Stranger Tides
Silver Shatter over Planks A Lot
Silver Shatter Skittles! I wanted to see Silver Shatter over some darker and bolder colors also, it's much more in your face in the best way possible!
From left to right Silver Shatter is layered over the following polishes: OPI Thanks So Muchness, OPI Suzi Skis In The Pyrenees, OPI Ogre The Top Blue, OPI Don't Mess With OPI
What do you guys think? This might be my favorite complete collection OPI has done in a long time, I love that the colors are understated and a bit murky there isn't one polish that I don't like. Silver Shatter is to die for!
This limited-edition Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides collection will be available beginning May 2011 at Professional Salons, including Beauty Brands, Beauty First, Chatters, Dillard’s, JCPenney, Pure Beauty, Regis, Trade Secret, and ULTA, for $8.50 ($10.95 CAN) suggested retail for each Nail Lacquer.

ReplyDeleteThis is a beautiful collection. I am SO hating the brights that are going around. But these are lovely.
ReplyDeleteHmm... they look really kind of pale for my taste, but I'll still get a few
ReplyDeleteThanks for the great swatches! Do you have Essie Da Bush yet? I'm wondering how it compares to Stranger Tides?
ReplyDeleteI love them all!
ReplyDeleteOh gosh, I didn't think I'd want any of these really. Now I do.
ReplyDeleteomg love the silver shatter! i am tempted to get mermaid's tears, sparrow me the drama and planks a lot....
ReplyDelete@soknitpicky
ReplyDeleteI haven't seen that Essie polish in person yet, but from the swatches I've seen it looks be a darker version of Stranger Tides
@Joyce

ReplyDeletethe other colors are also really pretty though....hrmmm
I was really excited about this collection, but now that I've seen some swatches...meh. I like Stranger Tides and Planks a Lot, but they're not must haves. And Silver Shatter, but that's a given. I might be the only one saying this, but I think this collection is a pass for me. :(
ReplyDeleteStranger Tides is soooo stunning. I need it in my life! I'm also really liking the silver crackle.
ReplyDeleteLove this collection! Thanks for the great swatches! They give a better indication how the colour looks on the nails compared to the bottle pictures from OPI. =]
ReplyDeleteThis collection is really interesting ! It appeals me more than the Texas collection ... I don't have a lot of pastel and sweet shades like that :)
ReplyDeleteLoving the ENTIRE collection....they're all shades that I would typically choose and wear :)
ReplyDeleteloving the pastel! i might grab them all expect the light lavender,, love this
ReplyDeletethanks for swatching
@carissakuo
ReplyDeleteAwesome, I love when I can do that!
@BMR
ReplyDeleteYou definitely aren't the only one passing on the collection, not everyone loves everything! That would be boring if we all liked the same stuff!
@Kayleigh
ReplyDeleteGlad you like them!
Thanks for the great comments everyone <3
ReplyDeleteI feel my wallet crying. I'm so excited for all these upcoming collections. Also I love your swatches!! They look so neat and nice.
ReplyDeleteI haven't bought a whole OPI collection in a long while. This just might be the one I buy it all. I think I love every polish. The green is my favorite.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely going to get Stranger Tides and Sparrow Me The Drama. Anyone know if there'll be a set of minis similar to the Katy Perry and Texas ones?
ReplyDeleteI'm not crazy about this colection but I need Stranger Tides, Silver Shatter and I thought I need Mermaid's Tears, but I already have the awesome Ancient Jade, now I don't know.. Mermaid's Tears looks a bit more dusty..maybe I'll buy it, the name is so pretty. I'm not sure I like the pinks, and the purple is kind of boring, Skull is nice, but I have similar polishes and the name isn't really that attractive :P I love OPI's Burlesque and Holiday Wishes collections the best :)
ReplyDeleteStranger Tides is my favorite!
