Today I have for you guys one of the polishes from a Summer 2011 Revlon display I found at Rite Aid last week. The colors in the display are fab and consist of a shimmery yellow, shimmery blue and shimmery orange. I picked up the yellow and blue, I wanted that orange SO bad but am kind of glad I passed after using the other 2 over the weekend. The yellow I'm showing you today is called Sunshine Sparkle. It's a sunny yellow, a bit muted...not super bright. In the bottle it has a gorgeous shimmer and it did translate onto the nail but not as strongly as I had hoped for. I do really enjoy the color even if the shimmer wasn't as wow as I hoped for. And that people is where my love affair ends with this color. The formula was horrible, a streaky nightmare. I know yellow is a pain but this was by far the worst I've ever personally tried. I needed 5 coats to even this sucker out. Then after all that hard work...bubbling. You can't see most of the bubbling in my picture except for 1 giant bubble on my middle finger...but trust me it was there. I probably won't be posting the blue from this collection, it was even worse. I didn't even take pictures of it when I wore it, that's how bad it was.
I have to say, I've only tried 5 Revlon polishes in my entire life. Out of those 5 only 2, Perplex & Royal, have had a decent formula...the other 3 have been nightmares. I probably won't buy another Revlon polish unless the color is something great. I am so disappointed with these 2 summer ones I bought! :(
Below is 5 coats of Sunshine Sparkle
See...there is that shimmer. Sparse, but there!

I love wandering around the cosmetic section of Target. :) The Targets by me have a limited selection of OPI...nothing fab, but they are there.
ReplyDeletesounds like a nightmare to use, but looks decent! I like the color, I wish it was a better application :/
ReplyDeleteOopfhhh, I know it's crap formula, but that color is amazing. I wish it didn't take 5 coats!
ReplyDeleteToo bad about the formula, the colour looks quite pretty! Thanks for the review! xx
ReplyDeleteToo bad the formula is a mess because it's a pretty color. And 5 coats? Bummer!
ReplyDelete5 coats!!! I have a ton of Revlons and that is insane. But I just literally walked in the door from Walgreens and I saw the display. I almost grabbed it. I might go back. I wonder how it would be with a cream base coat? It's so pretty!
ReplyDeleteI almost got this one and now I'm glad I didn't. I did get the blue one and had major issues with it being streaky and then not drying. Yuck. Perplex works great for me, and I love love love the Top Speeds, but I really don't think I'll be buying any of the regular Revlons anymore. :(
ReplyDeleteI had exactly the same problem with Blue Lagoon (guessing that's the one you bought!) It was so streaky, draggy and bubbly I took it off after about 20 mins of wearing it. Revlon are of the more expensive high-street brands (£6.50) here in the UK, not sure about the price where you are but it's so disappointing considering you can get £1 polishes that apply like a dream. The other Revlon I bought wasn't a shimmer but I also experienced bubbling :( xx
ReplyDeleteI know, Target is so impressive! Orly!!?! Really! I'll have to check my local Target soon... my Target has a limited selection of OPI, just pink and red and I've also seen Seche Vite there too!
ReplyDeleteI've heard bad things about Revlon's formula as well as chipping issues. I haven't tried them yet...
color is top shelf! i HATE when things dont apply as planned =(
ReplyDeleteYay I'm excited I'm always at target and find it easy to sneak a polish or two in the cart so that means I get to sneak orly!!!
ReplyDeleteI don't care if it takes 5 coats I want this yellow, its so pretty. you probably think I'm nuts, even though it takes 5 coats. lol
ReplyDeleteIt looks so pretty but the formula you mentioned is no bueno! :( Maybe if it's on sale, I'll take a chance at it then!
ReplyDeleteThe color IS gorgeous. (I'm a pale yellow sucker) Buuut, that's WACK, five coats. I'm sure I could dupe this, I have a lot of yellow in my collection.
ReplyDeleteFYI-I just read on another web blog, that Walgreen's is selling Revlon mini's in a three pack! Three different color shades and they are going fast.
ReplyDeleteYou have great patience using five coats of yellow on this polish, it does look sensational however, some of us would give up after 3-4, LOL Your nails always look so beautiful and professional on your web blog.
Love,
Mc Huggs :)
I don't know what it is about Revlon's polishes but I love them--even with the bad formula! I also found that Perplex had a decent formula. I just gave myself a manicure with it about ten minutes ago.
ReplyDeleteRuh-roh! I just picked up the yellow and the blue, today. Now I wish I had seen your review, I would likely have skipped the yellow and grabbed the orange, instead. Oh well. We'll see how it goes. If I hate them, I can always return them. :)
ReplyDelete@Johnna
ReplyDeleteMine doesn't have any OPI (other than Nicole by OPI) That's awesome that yours does!
@Lilybeans
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure if that would help it out or not, I might have to try that one day!
@Nicole
ReplyDeleteI hope you do! I don't have a lot of yellow so nothing close to it :(
@Ice Queen
ReplyDeleteHopefully you have better luck with it than I did!
yeah, unfortunately i have to say ''Sh*t happens'' :/
ReplyDeletenext time you will know, we are learning from mistakes :P
Love this shade of yellow. Looks like a milky shade.
ReplyDeleteI wish I read this before I bought it. I have been on a hunt for summer-y nail polish colors. I was sick what I already had. The only other yellow that I had in my collection was Need Sunglasses by OPI and it is great but sometimes too bright and just doesn't suit my skintone at the moment. This is a lovely color but so goddamn annoying to apply. I had this problem with all Revlon nail polishes except for Tropical Temptation which is one of my favorites :)
ReplyDeleteI bought this and used the Essie good to go fast drying top coat and it came out perfect. :-)
ReplyDeleteI just bought this color today because I wanted a pale yellow and couldn't find any! I totally agree with you about the formula, it's a pain in the butt. I'm not really a fan of the brush either, it's really narrow! The color is so great though, same with Sweet Tart, the other Revlon I bought.
ReplyDeleteI think it would look better if you didn't have those awful acrylic tips.
ReplyDeleteMy nails are real, thank you for your amazingly sweet comment <333
