OPI Stranger Tides vs. Essie Da Bush

Good Morning guys! Anyone watch the MTV Movie Awards last night? I watched most of it, totally worth it since Nick Swardson was randomly presenting an award and of course creepy as hell Gary Busey was there! I also watched those crazy people on Real Housewives of Orange County last night, I really wish I would see those ladies out somewhere sometimes...I actually live somewhat close to some of them. We frequent some of the same places, but I've never seen any of them in real life. I gotta say the little fight between Tamara and Jeana was awesome, I might have rewound and watched it a few times :)

Today I have for you guys a comparison between OPI Stranger Tides and Essie Da Bush. These looked very similar in the bottle so I had to compare them! Both are light murky sage green shades. They are pretty close, but not dupes. The Essie is bit darker :( They are very close though, unless you are a weirdo like me and need all shades of green you probably don't *need* both. The formula was really great on both, I used 3 coats for each for full opacity. I can't say I prefer one over the other, if you can only get one I'd get whichever is easiest to find or whichever is cheaper!

  1. Wow they almost do look very alike! Love both colors on you, I laughed so hard with Tyrese and Sudekis doing the illegal street racing ad and with Rob Pattinson kissing Taylor Lautner. I used to watch the Housewives but not anymore, I lost too many episodes to watch it again 

  4. I'm still not sure if I like either of them. I go back and forth and almost buy them when I'm at the store because they look pretty........ Then by the time I reach the checkout I think they're nasty and I want nothing to do with them.... lol

  5. I know these are really close, but I just love Da Bush so much more. How is that possible?? Something about its undertones makes it much more flattering on my skin than Stranger Tides.

  6. omg, I LOVE the Real Housewives of anything. They're hilarious. I just got back from watching the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills at the gym! That's my favorite, gotta love Kyle, lol. Not to mention this post is quite handy because I have been lemming ST and I'm happy to see that I should still get it over DB because I'm very pale. :) Thanks!

  7. Very similar... I like Stranger Tides a bit more though, which is good because I think I have that one and I know I don't have Da Bush.

  8. I actually like DaBush better. There is something about all the POTC collection that just hit me at the time I saw them in the bottle, the nail block samples with and without the shatter silver, none of them did anything for me really. I am a collector, but only things I think I will wear, so I passed on the entire collection. Yet when I saw swatches of the Resort Essie, I was drawn to DaBush, Lion Around & Fair Game. I had just bought 2 oranges & so many pinks that looked like Your Hut or Mine from eons ago when that was a color on the run, I passed. Now I am thinking I should try to find that one missing from my Resort Collection because it dawned on me what Essie was trying to do (and succeeded) was come up with the Panatone color of the yr - Honeysuckle (pink/coral).

Agree that the OPI here is really similar, yet a bit lighter and a tish more dusty/dirty color. Usually I am drawn to thode dusty/dirty shades. Just think they were shades done over and over again with a tish of the dusty added to them & a collection name OPI new would sell. I just hit the end of my rope on too many pastels, too many light colors, not wearing them much of the ones I have. Am I a lone wolf here in that regard? I am not even drawn hot and heavy to the 'flower' OPI collection - what's it called? Something stems. There is one bright fuchsia I might try before I buy from that group. Hope to see something in the fall from OPI that catches me more. I am not turned on by just the one photo of the bottle display of the 6 glitters, 6 'other' in the holiday Muppet collection from them. Maybe I can afford to buy a peptide solution I really want that is $150/oz if I pass on all these OPIs!

  9. @thenailaholicOh, I am so much the same way - glad to hear from someone else who spends the time looking, thinking, ends up finally at the check out and then again sorts out the products leaving some behind!

  10. @Varnish VixenDitto here. I think it's the undertone of white/almost chalky to a lot of the Pirates collection that did me in so they were not for me. I put my fingers behind the polish swatches and not one looked 'right' on my skin.

  11. @SalanderAgree! Thanks so much for finding this almost dup. Completely agree that unless you are into greens (or need an entire collection), this is one that most folks would not need both. But gosh it seems there are so many green polish heads out there! I don't happen to be one of them. I have a few, but I am picky.

  12. I remember that you said you were going to post this comparison and I couldn't wait! I was at Ulta, Da Bush in my hands, searching your site on my phone to see if I had missed it! :P I ended up putting it back and got that Hut color instead. Pink, eep! But your glowing review makes me just a little less scared to try it.

  16. @Varnish Vixen

I get it! Da Bush has a different undertone and is a little darker. I think it probably will be more flattering on different skin tones!

Definitely agree with you about the Pantone color and Your Hut Or Mine. I think Essie hit the nail on the head with that one!

The flower collection is Nice Stems! I think you will like OPI Fall, it's full of yummy dark shades! I'm looking forward to seeing more about the Muppet Collection, I haven't made up my mind on that one yet!

  20. I missed the awards. I like to watch them. I'm sure they will be On Demand on my cable system. Thanks so much for the comparison. These look so similar that I don't feel I need both. I just got the OPI Sunday. I hope I remember not to order the Essie!

  21. I found Da Bush at TJ Maxx several months ago and bought it. Tonight, I saw Stranger Tides at TJ Maxx and I bought it. I am now thinking that they might make for a cool tone-on-tone dotticure, based on your comparison.
