China Glaze Haunting Halloween Collection 2011 Swatches!

Good Morning! Today I have for you guys China Glaze's Halloween 2011 Collection, the name of the collection is Haunting! I've been looking forward to this since I saw it at CosmoProf, needless to say the second I saw it on Victoria Nail Supply I bought most of it! China Glaze usually does my favorite Halloween Collections, I have a feeling that will be true for this year also, at least judging by the halloween polishes I already have. The Haunting Collection brings us 2 new glitters and  2 new cremes along with Black Mesh and Ghoulish Glow, which have previously been released. I ended up buying everything except for Black Mesh, I have enough black crack polish to last the rest of my life.

Click the Read More button below to see full pictures and reviews of each shade!

Crimson is a very dark blacked purple. This one looks black pretty much all of the time. You can see the purple poking out around the edges of my nails but other than that it really just looked black. I love vampy shades like this but meh...I feel like I have enough. The formula was good, a little thick but that made it cover well. I used 2 coats for the photos below.

Ghoulish Glow is a fab glow in the dark polish that China Glaze put out a while back, I missed out on it that time so I had to pick it up this time around! It's pretty sheer I don't think you could build it up to be opaque but I haven't tried. I have it over Haunting which I have swatches of below. I really like the way it transforms Haunting, it made it look all matte and greyish. The first photo is in the sun and is one coat of Ghoulish Glow over Haunting. The second photo is 2 coats of Ghoulish Glow over Haunting in all it's glowly glory.

I have to say, I am not super impressed. When I only used 1 coat over Haunting it hardly glowed at all. It was much better at 2 coats and who knows...it might work better over lighter shades. I guess I just expected more.

Haunting is a gorgeous black packed with silver glitter. I am such a fangirl of these kinds of polishes, I need to own every black with silver glitter I can find, they look like the sky at night! The formula was great, thick but very easy to work with. I used 2 coats for the photos below.

it's Alive is a murky green jelly base packed with round and hexagon shaped green glitter. I think this one right here will probably be the polish that everyone needs from this collection. As soon as I saw it I went ooohhhhh and put it on immediately. I had heard some talk of people thinking this was dupey to Zombie Zest that came out last Halloween...it's not, not even close or similar actually. I have a comparison down there for you guys! The formula was pretty thick, not surprising due to the amount of glitter. It was very easy to apply though! This did dry a bit matte, it also ate top coat like crazy!

Close Up (Shade)

It's Alive vs. Zombie Zest. 2 coats of It's Alive and 3 coats of Zombie Zest.

Near Dark is a very dark blacked green. Yes, it is green...I promise. It's probably the darkest green ever, I only know it's green because you can tell in the bottle and on the first coat. This looked grey in the PR stuff I grabbed for this collection as CosmoProf so I was a bit surprised that it was green when I started putting on the first coat. This is just like Crimson for me, I like it but I feel like I've seen it and bought it a bunch of times before. I would have rather seen another glitter instead of this. Good formula again, a little thick but easy to control. I used 2 coats for the photos below.

Overall, I don't think I like this as much as last year's Halloween Collection from China Glaze but it's pretty great. The glitters are both fantastic, It's Alive is for sure a must have. I would pass on the 2 cremes if you already have something similar.

These are available now on Victoria Nail Supply. I'm guessing they will be available soon at stores like Sally's but I haven't spotted them there yet.

  2. LOL'ing at Brooke!
I actually like the dark cremes. *ducks* But, everyone hated the OPI dark cremes (Here Today, Aragon Tomorrow for instance) and I loved them, so no surprise really. These look great on you and I'm glad you did the comparison with Zombie Zest, I am SURE that's a common comment!

  4. Crimson REALLY reminds me of one of the new Zoya colors from Smoke & Mirrors, Anja. I NEED Ghoulish Glow just for the night life around Halloween...too cool! Oh, and I wanted to make a suggestion.. I don't know if you own it already, but if not.. you should check out Sinful Colors Secret Admirer. I say that because you said you enjoy black polishes with glitters. I just put up a swatch the other day if you haven't seen it/don't yet own it.

  5. Great swatch photos and write up. I know many folks really wait for the new Halloween collections. I just happen to not be one of 'em - despite it's my b'day! I so don't want to do my nails for one day and I really hate all the Halloween decorations - they all look junky/tacky/cheap to me - fall decorations OK - but I know I am in a huge minority as Halloween is the 2nd most decorated event next to Xmas! I am getting really streamlined on my 'stuff' however and don't change my house around with the seasons anymore. Time of life has hit me where I want to really slim down on possessions. I want to feel portable. Just wish I could afford to re-decorate in total modern minimalist. i am stuck with a 90's couch and other 90's stuff which was the 2nd major time in life I redecorated and got rid of almost all my antiques that had not fit into the previous 3 homes I lived in. Anyhow...I do love to buy the Xmas holiday polishes - they still have my heart - and darn OPI not doing them again this year. I think that's going to be their thing now..maybe not politically correct anymore to do them?

  9. Although I WILL be getting It's Alive and Ghoulish Glow, I was SO disappointed in this years collection! The two creams look like polishes released in Metro... and the other glitter is blah. Thanks for the swatches, they save me from buying polishes I'll hate!

  28. @Pixie Polish

I think Crimson is darker, Anja was more noticeably not black in real life, if that makes sense. similar enough that you don't need both though.

I don't have that Sinful polish, I'm gonna need to look for it!
