Orly Fall 2011 Birds of a Feather Collection Swatches!

Good Morning guys! Today I have for you Orly's Birds of a Feather Collection for Fall! I have to admit I wasn't wowed by these the first time I saw them. I spotted the display at Ulta a few weeks ago and only bought Fowl Play. I decided to pick them up when I found the collection at a local supply shop in a set. Much to my surprise I actually like a lot of them!

Click the Read More button below for photos and reviews of each polish!

First up is Fowl Play, a dark purple packed with flakies and little specks of blue glitter. We all have heard of this one right? I've been wanting it for months! I've heard it's a pretty good dupe of OPI Merry Midnight, I'm not sure how close it is (and I can't find my bottle to compare, sorry) but it's probably close to kill that lemming for a lot of people. The formula was a little thick in my bottle, I looked at the other bottle I have and it wasn't as thick so I'm not sure what's going on, I used 2 coats for full opacity.

Lucky Duck is a bright jade green.. I like this one because it's green, I love greens, but I feel like I have a dupe of this. I just need to pull stuff to compare it to! Lucky Duck is the lone creme of the collection :( I kinda wish there was another, I dunno...I like a good creme polish! The formula was really good on this one, a little on the thick side again but it only needed 2 coats!

Nite Owl is a taupe brown packed with silver shimmer! WOW! This is one that I saw in the bottle and went meh, it is gorgeous on. I can't believe I ever passed it up! This is my kind of work appropriate shade, it's subtle but still packs a little something extra and exciting! The formula was good again, 2 coats for the photos below!

Peachy Parrot is a pinkish orangey frost. I do not like this one, it looks like a shade my Grandma would like so Ill probably gift it to her. Maybe some people like this kind of finish, I am just not one of those people. The formula was pretty good, it dried with some brush strokes but went on easy. I used 2 coats for the photos below.

Sea Gurl is a gorgeous shimmery gunmetal grey. I love this one!! I think my favorite thing about this is that it's a bit metallic but didn't suffer from brush strokes showing! I adore grey's like this, I'm not sure if I have something similar, I kind of hope I do because I love it that much and need more like it! The formula was really great, I used 2 coats for the photos below!

Sweet Peacock is a bright electric blue foil! Similar to but not a dupe of OPI Swimsuit...Nailed It! I will have a comparison of those 2 this week for you. Next to Fowl Play this is my favorite of the collection, outside in the sun it was awesome! The formula was great, almost a 1 coater for me! I used 2 coats for the photos below.

Shade

This collection is available now, I'm not sure if the etailers have it but I have seen it out at Ulta! You can also buy them on Orly's website here.

  3. The same happened to me: I wanted Fowl Play and Nite Owl, I was undecided on Sea Gurl, and I found a shop on Ebay for which buying the 6 shades was cheaper than buying three (thanks shipping costs), and I'm really happy because I love Sea Gurl and Sweet Peacock. I don't care for the green and peach and I'll give them or sell them, but the other four are so pretty!! Peacock is mesmerizing and of all the crazy blues of this fall, I'm happy to have this one, it's my fav!!

  5. Adding Nite Owl and maybe Sea Gurl to my list!

  6. You're right, Nite Owl is a complete surprise! You had the same thought as I did, a work-appropriate polish that I'd actually be happy to wear... I'm not really into the subdued polishes, but this one has that extra "Ooo" factor.

I'm also on the fence about Fowl Play. I'm not sure what's off putting about it for me though... I love the flakies, but... I dunno.

The rest are just 'meh' for me with the exception of Sweet Peacock... it's gorgeous, but I feel it's too similar to Orly Stone Cold, and I think I prefer Stone Cold.

  7. Great swatches!! I think Fowl Play it the best of the bunch, being also opaque in two coats. I could skip green (I'm stocking too many of them) and I completely agree with "granny polish" definition for the orange frost one. The others would be worth buying, they are quite peculiar!

  8. The peacock one looks pretty, I'll have to go back for that one too :)

  13. Fowl Play is the only one I picked up from this collection. While I love the color in the bottle, it didn't wow me on the nail like I wanted it to. Great swatches!

  14. So FYI on Lucky Duck, I swatched this last week and compared it to OPI Don't Mess with OPI and the two are incredibly close. Also, I think it might be a dupe for OPI Jade is the New Black, but I no longer have that shade.

  15. Great swatches! I've been a a huge break from buying, but Nite Owl is calling my name.. How would you say it compares to $OPI Under My Trenchcoat and Essie Mochacino?

  16. I need to have Sweet Peacock.
Does anybody know how to get it in Europe?
    Thanks for the swatches =)

  17. @Cat

I wish I could tell you if they were similar but I actually don't own either of those polishes :(

  18. I <3 Sweet Peacock so much!! I also bought Fowl Play, and like it as well. I've been waffling on Night Owl and Sea Gurl for a while now...I want them, but I think they look similar to a couple polishes I already own.

  19. All of them are gorgeous... I really love Fowl Play and Nite Owl:) Great swatches! :)

  20. I saw a swatch of Fowl play and had to snag it off a certain auction site ;) LOVE it!

I with the other colors had been...well...different. I love the name of the collection. I just think Ducky and Peacock could have been better, maybe duochromish?

  23. Fowl Play is pretty amazing but I am surprised Nite Owl is my favorite! It is one of the best nudes shades in a while.

  27. Is Nite Owl a near-dupe for butter london's All Hail McQueen?

    ReplyDelete
  28. I like all of these except Peachy Parrot (orange-y pinks just aren't my thing). Fowl Play is the one I'm most likely to grab.

  29. I am loving the look of Sea Gurl and Nite owl. ♥♥ And Fowl Play is gorgeous. I have Merry Midnight so I will likely skip FP

  30. @Mairyn

I haven't looked at them side by side, I think the base color might be similar but the shimmer is very different. Butter London is smaller and holographic shimmer and Orly is more of a chunky (in comparison to BL) silver shimmer.

  31. hello!!

I loved them all, but my favorite was the 1st, Fowl Play, I guess.

    Kisses^^

  32. @Jen
    Ahh thank you :)
Sounds like I don't need the Orly then - I much prefer smaller holographic shimmer.

  33. I feel like Lucky Duck is a dupe for OPI Jade is the New Black. I was just wearing it for the past few days, and it just looks very dead on.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Also Fowl Play looks like a dupe of Sally Hansen's Problem Child...Maybe?

    ReplyDelete
  35. @CarrieB

similar but the flakies in that sally hansen were much smaller and less noticeable. Fowl Play is much closer to Merry Midnight!

  36. I actually ran out just to get Nite Owl, and paid full price at Ulta. No regrets!!

I think you could get by with just 1 coat of it too, it's very densely pigmented. Love Orly ;)

  37. this collection is beyond awesome, I'm buying them all but the peachy one

  38. I have Fowl play on right now and I love it! I think I need Night Owl now too!
