China Glaze Holiday 2011 Let It Snow Collection Swatches

Good morning! Today I have another holiday collection for you guys, this is like collection overload week! The collection I have for you guys today is the Let It Snow collection from China Glaze! I really like this one, there are a bunch of different shades and finishes...really something for everyone! Click the read more button under the collage of pictures for a ton of pictures and reviews of each shade!

Blue Year's Eve is a really pretty blue glass flecked polish. This had a bit of a purple duochrome in the bottle but I couldn't get it to come out to play on the nail. I really like this, however it looks very very similar to Blue Iguana which came out in the summer Island Escape Collection from China Glaze. Looking back at those swatches this seems a bit darker but it was the first thing I thought of when I put this on. I need to do a proper comparison! The formula was a bit sheer, I needed 3 coats for full opacity.

Champagne Bubbles is a metallic gold with sparse silver glitter sprinkled throughout. I don't love this one, it's just not my cup of tea. I love the idea of a metallic shade with the little bits of glitter though, I'd probably be all into this if it wasn't gold. When I saw this in the bottle I worried that the glitter wouldn't work...like it would sink into the base. Luckily that didn't happen, the glitter definitely came through and it didn't look lumpy or anything. The formula was good on this one, 2 coats for full opacity!

Shade

Glittering Garland is tiny green glitter in a deep blackened green jelly base. I LOVE this one, are we surprised? no! I don't even have any words about this one, just look at the pictures. It's fantastic. The formula was also great, I used 2 coats for the photos below.

Shade

Shade

Holly-Day is a gorgeous green creme. I really like this, it doesn't lean too blue or too yellow...it's right there in the middle. Not sure how unique it is but I love it nonetheless, it is green after all :) The formula was great, I used 2 coats for the photos below.

Icicle is a silver foil. I don't really feel like there is anything special about this one, I have a lot of silver foils already. If you don't already have something similar it's a good one. The formula was good, I used 2 coats.

Shade

Poinsettia is a bright red crelly. Yeah...a creme/jelly haha. I adore how shiny this one dries, I don't feel like it's super unique though. The formula was awesome, 2 coats for full opacity!

Ring In The Red is a mix of different sizes of red glitter in a red jelly base. I really loved this in the bottle but on the nail on it's own I don't love it. I think this would be better for layering...I imagine it would look pretty fantastic over any of the reds in this collection. The formula was no bueno if you want to wear it on it's own, it was sheer and watery. I needed 4 coats for it to be opaque on it's own.

Shade

Shade
Snowglobe is small round and medium hex glitter in a clear base. The glitter in this is pretty gorgeous, it looks very pastel. I don't *think* I have anything quite like it, though I know there are some similar things coming out right now...like Deborah Lippmann Stairway to Heaven and Mac Unconditionally Fabulous (I kind of love the name of that one). I'm not sure if any of them are exact dupes since I don't own either of those other ones but they are close enough for me and China Glaze is a bit cheaper. Formula wise it was a bit thick and goopy. I tried to wear it on it's own and it was a mess, so I layered it over Velvet Bow instead :)

Shade

Shade
Tinsel Town is small dark grey and silver glitter along with medium silver hex glitter in a smoky grey base. This doesn't feel very holiday to me, but who the heck cares...it's awesome! Formula wise it was good, only 2 coats for full opacity. It did dry with a bit of texture but it wasn't too rough.

Shade
Twinkle Lights is small round gold, green and red glitter in a clear base. This is like a Christmas explosion! I think if I found one of Santa's Elfs and then it exploded into a cloud of glitter it would be a cloud of this glitter! I really like this one it's own, I think it would be pretty great for layering also! Formula wise this covered better than I thought it would. I used 2 coats for the photos below. It was a bit patchy but I like it that way!

Shade

Shade
Velvet Bow is a vampy wine red. I feel like I have shades like this but I don't really mind that, I always crave these kinds of shades during the winter. Even though winter in Orange County doesn't really exist I like to wear cozy colors like this one on those cold days we get...and by cold I mean it gets all the way down in the 60's, it's when we throw on our parka's and act like we are freezing to death :( I bet everyone from places where you actually have winter would laugh so hard at us when days like that happen lol! Formula wise it was on the thick side and it wanted to drag when I put on the second coat. If you get this one you'll want to wait a couple minutes between coats so you don't have that problem. I used 2 coats for the photos below!

Winter Berry is a red creme. I do like this one but it feels too similar to Pointsettia for me. They aren't close to being dupes but I feel like they are too similar to be in the same collection. The formula was good, 2 coats for full opacity.

Overall, I like this collection. There are a few boring shades but there are some really great ones that make up for it. My picks are Glittering Garland, Snowglobe, Twinkle Lights, Tinsel Town and Ring In The Red (because it would be awesome layered).

The Let It Snow Collection is available now, I've seen it on several etailers like Transdesign. I've also seen it out at Sally Beauty Supply! If you get any of the sets I would recommend the one with the cuticle oil, it smells yummy!

  4. Jen, great swatches! The only one I didn't nab that I want is Tinsel Town - they didn't have it. I have got to get it, I love how it looks on your nails. I was lol'ing about your description of Twinkle Lights! I totally ignored all of the reds, but I kind of want Pointsetta. I do like dark, vampy reds.

  8. I've made my want list, checking it twice, gonna get to Sally's and get the polishes that are nice... (Boo! Hiss! lol)

Thanks for the swatches. I now know exactly which ones I am getting. I will be passing on Icicle and Champagne Bubbles. I need another silver foil like I need another hole in my head and Champagne Bubbles just leaves me flat, even tho I love gold. *shrugs* I hope that I can find the set with the cuticle oil. I'd love some yummy cuticle oil. :D

  10. I think I'm going to have to go back and get Velvet Bow. I was torn between that and something else but that is a freaking gorgeous red.

  13. Thanks for posting these! I literally went to your page today to see if you'd swatched these because I saw the collection at Sally Beauty and wanted to see how a few of the colours turned out. I think you've definitely sold me on Twinkle Lights!

I grabbed Glittering Garland (how could I not?!) and Snow Globe.  I think Snow Globe will look awesome as a glitter sammich.

  18. Thanks for the awesome swatches!  Your nails are so pretty and the colors looks amazing on you;)
Do you have the China Glaze Christmas colors from last year?  If you do, how close are the red glitters?  And the green glitter to Glittering Garland?  I am trying to see if I "need" both LOL... your great pics aren't helping my addicting haha
Oh, and which would you recommend between Poinsetta and Winter Berry?  I have 100 reds but of course these look gorgeous (I already bought Poinsetta so now wondering if Winter Berry may have been better)
    TIA!!!

  19. I do have last years collection! The red glitters are nothing alike, last years has more of a pinkish tone to it and only one size of glitter. I much prefer the one in this collection! Same with the green from last year, it's nothing like Glitter Garland. If anything it's very similar to Emerald Sparkled (but not a dupe!). Out of the 2 reds you mentioned I would definitely pick Poinsettia...I like that tone of red better!

  29. thank you <3 Hope you love the polishes you got from the Muppet Collection!!

  30. I totally agree with you, I love glitters like Tinsel Town and It's Alive. I'd be perfectly okay with China Glaze doing it in ever color!

    ReplyDelete
  31. Thanks love! You NEED Tinsel Town, It screams Nikki to me!

  32. Awesome! This helps so much (well, not really my wallet LOL).  I was really eyeing those two glitters (red and green) from this year's collection and I am totally going back for them now!  Going to pass on the Winter Berry though.  Thanks again- I just LOVE your blog and your swatches and pics are the best!  So helpful!

  33. Yep, all Sallys stores were suppose to put their's out Nov. 1st!  (Some put it out early I know, and I am sure some will be later;)  Not sure about Ulta but as on last weekend the two Ultas I go to had NOTHING new from any of the collections:(
Oh, and if anyone is interested, Sallys had a TON of holiday polishes out from Orly and Colour Club glitters and Finger Paints, as well as the China Glaze singles and gift sets.  So much good stuff!!

  34. Thank you ♥

  35. I really like quite a few from this group...Garland is amazing, Poinsettia if yummy, I will probably sucumb to Twinkle Lights despite it's wear time is really limited. I have Snowglobe from the first time it was out X2 bottles, Ring in the red is a must for me. Something about Holly Days is got my attention - mostly I guess because it's not a deep green yet not a primary green like Starboard and I am late to getting to like greens so it's an area I need some fill in to my stash on. Cannot pass up the flecks in New Years Eve - Out of all the blues we got hit by this year - I like this one best.

  36. I love Champagne Bubbles. I always try to franken something similar, but it always looks like pepper in mustard, or just not as vibrantly colored as that.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I thought I got all the ones I wanted from this collection, but now I want Ring In The Red  too!

  38. Hiii!:)

  39. I found these at Ulta the other day and I picked up three of them: Holly-Day, Ring in the Red, and Winter Berry. I'm a little bit bummed that Holly-Day is pretty much exactly like Orly's Wandering Vine. I swatched them right next to each other and Wandering Vine is ever-so-slightly bluer than Holly-Day if you look really, really hard, lol. Ring in the Red is awesome and I'm in love with it. I had a lot of trouble with Winter Berry, though-- it just did not want to dry! However, it was raining that day, so that's probably why.

  40. Beautiful swatches!!!  :D  My favorites are Glittering Garland, Ring in the Red, Snow Globe, Tinsel Town, Twinkle Lights, and Blue Year's Eve.  I wish Champagne Bubbles was a more wearable shade of gold - I love how the lovely glitter works with the shiny finish.  But I know that very yellowy gold would be unflattering against my skin tone.  I guess there are lots of other great polishes to love in this collection though.  <3

  41. I adore this polish collection!  Such beautiful polishes.  Great swatches, as always! :D ^-^

  42. I ended up getting Holly-Day after reading your post, because I didn't have a green creme and you were right, it is great. The rest of them however I allready had some similars, specially from the previous collection, Tis The Season To Be Naughty or Nice - Holiday 2010.
