Good morning! Hope you all had a good weekend, it was all yucky and rainy here on Sunday. I actually didn't do much...it was nice! Today I have a collection I have been waiting very impatiently for, Essie's Luxeffects Collection! I have literally been calling the guy at the supply shop I go to every couple days for the last 3 weeks asking him about these. When I went to buy them on Friday the owner of the store was all happy for me that they finally got them in, I think he's glad I won't be calling like a stalker anymore haha!
A Cut Above is a mix of light pink small, medium and hex glitter in a clear base. This reminds me of Deborah Lippmann Some Enchanted Evening, it's not an exact dupe but it's similar! The formula was good, it wasn't thick and the glitter spread really easily. I wasn't having to try and place pieces glitter or apply it in a strange way to get the glitter on looking nicely. I used 1 coat of A Cut Above over Zoya Megan for the photos below.

As Gold As It Gets is flakes of gold glitter in a clear base. This is pretty much the same as the CND Sheer 24K Sparkle effect that came out a couple months ago. The flakies seem a little less dense in the Essie version so I actually prefer this one. For those of you who didn't want to purchase the whole CND set just for that effect this is a great alternative! For the first 2 photos I have 1 coat of As Gold As It Gets over Zoya Kristen. The second 2 photos are 1 coat of As Gold As It Gets over Nubar Dark Wash Jeans.

Pure Pearlfection is a fine white shimmer in a clear base. This didn't really wow me in the bottle but I changed my mind once I put it on, I really love the combo I did! I think one of those new Sally Hansen Diamond Strength polishes *might* be similar to this but since I haven't managed to find them yet I can't be sure about that. I know I don't currently have a dupe for this in my stash. I can't wait to try this over black...and white. I think it's going to look all kinds of awesome over white. What I really love about this polish is that out in the sun you could see little pops of blue and purple shimmer, it's really gorgeous! I used 1 coat of Pure Pearlfection over Nubar Boyfriend Jeans for the photos below.

Set In Stones is the same kind of mix of glitter that A Cut Above had except with silver glitter instead of pink. I do like this one, but it doesn't feel very special to me. Formula wise it was good and applied the same way as A Cut Above. I used 1 coat over Zoya Carey for the photos below.

Shine Of The Times is the one we have all been looking forward to...flakies! This is pretty much a dupe of Sally Hansen Hidden Treasure and Nubar 2010 but shoot, I still love it. I will never get tired of flakies. If you missed out on Hidden Treasure and don't have access to Nubar this is a great alternative. I really love flakies like this over lighter colors, in the first combo below you can see a bit of the blue/purple in the flakies, it's gorgeous! The first combo I have is 1 coat of Shine of the Times over Chick All A Twitter. The second combo is 1 coat of Shine of the Times over OPI Black Onyx...I used a pretty thick coat over my index and ring finger...I like it that way, it's almost full coverage!

Overall I really like these, are we surprised? No! My favorites are Shine of the Times, As Gold As It Gets and Pure Pearlfection. I would pass on A Cut Above and Set In Stones, they just don't feel that special to me. I'm still surprised that Essie has put out polishes like these, I used to really dislike Essie because they were so boring. If you had told me a year ago they would put out a flakie I would have laughed at you!
The Luxeffects Collection is available now! I haven't seen it in regular chain stores like Ulta or in drugstores yet but I'm sure it will be there soon! Looks like a few of the etailers already have the collection up...transdesign.com, aveyou.com both have them just to name a couple. Essie retails for $8 each!

Omg I can't believe these are Essie too! I love A Cut Above and Shine Of The Times, but I just bought Nubar 2010.
ReplyDeleteI need Shine of the Times!! I have a feeling that one will be hard to find =\
ReplyDeleteAwww, they're really nice! :)
ReplyDeleteShines of times flakies are smaller and that is a good thing :-D
ReplyDeleteDefinitely not boring! This is a far cry from what Essie usually puts out! Only one I don't have is Pure Pearlfection. Might need to get that one after all!
ReplyDeleteThis seems to be the first Essie collection that I like entirely!
ReplyDeleteLOL - I'll soon have to "un-follow" your blog, it's waaay too expensive.
ReplyDeleteYou point my mind in the direction of so many polishes, that I didn't
know I
couldn't live without. Shine of the Times is sooo gorgeous, even if I do
have the Nubar 2010 (and bought a back-up bottle) - sighh, but thanks
anyhow ;)
I NEED Shine of the Times!
ReplyDeleteI am going to my nail supply today to check for these. I too have been driving the guys that work there crazy with my inquiries, lol! XD I need ALL OF THEM!!!
ReplyDeleteI purchased a cut above and shine of times they should be on their way! I'm so happy you posted this today!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely stunning, I need all of them! I'm glad to see big chunky glitters that aren't having the curling problem like the ones from Color Club are. I'm a huge Essie fan anyways, and this just makes me love them even more!
ReplyDeletePure Pearlfection is my favorite out of all of these!! Thanks for sharing ;0)
ReplyDeleteI think it's good to go in and ask at the store, sometimes I think the store only orders the product after I go in and ask for it a few times!
ReplyDeletevery cool glitters!!!
ReplyDeleteGoing to be picking up a few for sure. :)
ReplyDeleteI want Shine Of The Times so bad! It's really gorgeous and I don't have a flakie polish of any sort in my collection, so it would be a great way to start out. As Gold As It Gets is another great one too! Essie did a great job with this collection.
ReplyDeleteI've been so looking forward to swatches of these!!! I love them all! They are just stunning. Especially that Pink Glitter and of course the Pearly one! OMG!! Great swatches as always my love!
ReplyDeleteSooo, I pretty much have to own Shine of the Times and As Gold As It Gets!!! Gorgeous!

ReplyDeleteI love the flakies!! :)
ReplyDeleteI've got to find these! lol
ReplyDeleteI missed Hidden Treasure, and I don't have access to Nubar, other than online.
Thanks for these swatches :) Can't wait to get my hands on them!
ReplyDeleteLove "Pure Pearlfection" and "Shine of the Times." Although I don't need Shine of the Times because I have Hidden Treasure. Thanks for the swatches! :)
ReplyDeleteOh my Gooooooooooooooood, Shine of the Times!!!
ReplyDeleteBought these today, but display did not have "Shine". Funny that there was place on display for all the others. Like CG eye candy displays at Sally's do not have spots for Marry... and Material Girl. Weird.
ReplyDeletei'm seriously in love with the flakies in this collection. great swatches :)
ReplyDeleteNow I want all of these but the glitters! Originally I was only going to get the flackie but now I need the other two as well. You're such an enabler...LOL
ReplyDeleteI love but at the same time hate how perfect your swatches always are!
After reading this yesterday, I made a stop at an Ulta that had just opened to check it out. To my surprise, I found the collection there and picked up Shine Of The Times! I have it on over Orly Fowl Play. It's adorable.
ReplyDeleteI was waiting for Shine of the times.. but now I see your swatches and I want them all!!! Maybe i can pass with the glitters...
ReplyDeleteI NEED Shine of the Times and Gold as it Gets.
ReplyDeleteAhhhh! I just went a little crazy when I saw Shine of the Times! I have to go on a hunt for this before they're gone!!!!
ReplyDeleteshine of the times is incredible! I like how it looks over a dark color especially, must have
ReplyDeleteYeaaa thanks for putting these up! I've been waiting for really good swatches you did such a good job.
ReplyDeleteI just got Shine of the Times (the last bottle of it too!) and As Gold As it gets from my nearest beauty supply store! So excited, can't wait to try it.
ReplyDeleteIt was in my Ulta today!
ReplyDeleteI love this collection. So pretty!
ReplyDeleteOh wow! Shine of the Times looks gorgeous over the lighter color. I have Nubar 2010 but I've never tried it over a light polish. Guess I know what my next mani is going to be. Great pics! :)
ReplyDeleteI got Pearl Perfection and Shine of the Times in Walgreens today,
ReplyDeleteJust got Shine of the Times and As Gold as it Gets tonight. Loving them both. Thanks for the swatches!
ReplyDeleteI've been drooling over photos of these for months and when they started coming out in some states, except for the one I live in (of course). Since, I only have a few drug stores and next to NO beauty supply places, I started to get used to the fact that I probably won't see them. So, I walked into CVS to pick up a few last minute stocking stuffers. When I turned the corner, I got hit in the face (literally .. I knocked it over) with the Luxeffects display. Needless to say, after a few embarrassing squeals and strange looks from other shoppers, I walked out with 3 complete sets and no stocking stuffers. LOL Now, my only problem is .. which do I wear first?
ReplyDeleteI'm wearing Shine of the Times over sally hansen Haute Chocolate and it looks AMAZING!
ReplyDeleteI just got all of these. Bought 3 myself and got the other two for christmas. I am lovng all of them. I am a sucker for flakies anyway so I can't wait to use them ALL :)
ReplyDeleteThank you so much!!!
ReplyDeleteSuch gorgeous swatches!
I am ordering them now! LOL!!
I found this collection on www.pinknailsla.com for only $3.75 no coupon or anything it's their regular price! But it seems they are already out of set in stones :<.
