Models Own Beetlejuice Collection Swatches!

Good morning! Hope everyone had a good weekend, I did! I went to see a band called Tonight Alive on Saturday. Then on Sunday I went a little nuts at Sephora, it was fun but my bank account isn't too thrilled! Today I have maybe the most exciting collection to come out this year, the Beetlejuice Collection from Models Own! At least it is the most exciting one for me, Beetlejuice is one of my all time favorite movies and to make this even better the collection is filled with duochromes and multichromes! I actually just re-watched Beetlejuice on Saturday when I got home from the concert...if for some weird reason you have never seen it you really should go get it and watch it!

Click the read more button below for a ton of photos of each shade! This post is very picture heavy!

Before I start with the photos a few things so I don't have to repeat them over and over. All pictures except for the ones of Emerald Black are taken in overcast sunlight (aka it was cloudy lol) or shade...I have labeled the ones that are shade. Emerald Black is in full sunlight since it finally stopped raining and was nice for a hot second on Saturday. I'm not holding the actual bottle of Models Own polish, sorry! I love the bottles but my fingers and round bottles like Models Own don't love each other. I will have a comparison post up tomorrow for almost every shade!

Aqua Violet is a blue/purple duochrome.  The duochrome was a bit stronger in person than in my photos, my camera couldn't capture it for some reason. Formula wise it was a bit sheer but bit up nicely, I used 3 coats for the photos below.

Shade

Golden Green is a yellow and green duochrome. It does have a tiny touch of blue in there too. I thought I wouldn't like this one but man...it is pretty! This one was a bit sheer also, I used 3 coats for full opacity.

Shade

Shade
Pinky Brown is a dark pink and orangey duochrome. Now this is what I'm talking about!! If you liked Bad Fairy from Mac this is right up your alley. This one was also a bit sheer, I used 3 coats for full opacity.

Shade

Purple Blue is a blue, purple, pink multichrome. This is my easy favorite of the entire collection, it's got the most depth and is the most interesting to look at plus it's the most multichrome. I just have no words for how gorgeous this one is, if I could only get 1 polish from the collection it would be this one. Formula wise it wasn't as sheer as the previous polishes but I still needed 3 coats for full coverage.

Emerald Black is a blackened base with blue green shimmer. This is the least duochrome of any of the shades but it is a surprise favorite for me. I actually wasn't going to get it but then it was a better deal to get the set of all 5 polishes and the top coat....I'm so glad it worked out that way, I'd be sad if I didn't have this one! The duochrome in this one is very very subtle, it goes from emerald green to a teal blue but honestly, I could only see it when I was doing my nails under the lamp I have a daylight bulb in. No matter what light I was in other than that (direct sunlight, shade, the light coming through the window in my room etc...) I could not see the color shift. Either way, duochrome or not it's gorgeous! The formula on this one was great I used 2 coats for full opacity.

Overall, I LOVE this collection! Way to go Models Own, seriously...this is just wow. If you like duochromes you will love this. I actually don't have any dupes for anything in this collection (more on that tomorrow!) so these are all a welcome addition to my stash.  My only complaint....the names, they are so uncreative, Tim Burton would not approve. I've decided to give them new Beetlejuice appropriate names which you can see below.

Emerald Black= Lydia. It looks like something she might like.
Purple Blue= Ghost With The Most. Let's face it, it's awesome so it gets a name that conveys that.
Golden Green= Betelgeuse. This shade kind of reminds me of his hair
Pinky Brown= Jump In The Line. I know this makes no sense, I just really like that song and it makes me think of the movie.
Aqua Violet= Winter River. The name of the town the movie is set in, plus I think it actually kind of fits with the color.

The Beetlejuice Collection is available now on http://www.modelsownit.com/, it looks like Pinky Brown and Golden Green are out of stock right now but no worries...they will be back. According to Models Own this collection is NOT limited edition. In US dollars it equalled out to about $50 for the entire set (the one that includes all 5 polishes and the top coat) that was after shipping. IMO that is a pretty great deal for polishes like these. Last I heard everything would be back in stock towards the end of November if you are waiting to get the entire set.

I leave you with one of my favorite parts of the movie:

  4. Great swatches!! I didn't got the whole set (it was already sold out when I tried to buy it) but your swatches and review confirm my first impression (after seeing Jeannette's ones): I really need Purple...Err I mean Ghost With the Most and Jump in the Line!

  5. I ordered the whole set a couple weeks ago...yay!  Not too impressed w/the emerald/black one, though--imagine  the awesomeness that shade could have been!
In my HS yearbook, I was voted "Most Likely to Star in 'Beetlejuice 2' ".; I was the ONLY goth (back then people used the word "mod", somewhat incorrectly), ha ha.  I loved that movie, especially the late great Glenn Shadix (he played Otho).

  14. LOVE LOVE LOVE Beetlejuice! That whole movie just rocks my world. Tim Burton is a GOD. And so is Danny Elfman for that matter.

They were out of the sets by the time I got there so I am missing Pinky Brown--the one color I MUST HAVE. Still waiting for my order to get here *sniffle*. I'm glad it's not LE because....OMG PINKY BROWN.

I love the names you gave them! And the video...awesomesauce :)) Thanks for the gorgeous photos and the grin :)

  19. so gorgeous, I love duochromes. I would say that sally hansen "dvd" is somewhat similar to aqua violet but more purple

  20. I'm actually kinda disappointed. It's probably the lighting/ it being overcast. I like Emerald Black the most, but not one of those made me say "OMG I want that!" I'm interested to see Purple Blue in better lighting. Thanks for the post!

  21. In my opinion polishes like this actually photograph and look better in in-direct sunlight or low lighting. Sunlight does not allow the duochrome/multichrome to come out as much. Sorry you don't like them.

  22. Unfortunately I don't own DVD anymore so I'm not sure if they are close or not.

  23. I always rewind and watch that part of the movie a couple times when I'm watching it lol!

  43. Sadly, I am very disappointed with this collection.  Of course, I had to get the entire set,  but when I saw them  in person, they looked exactly like most of the polishes I already have in the duochrome line.  I wish I would have saved my money :O(

  44. love purple blue and pinky brown! emerald black kinda reminds me of china glaze's emerald fitzgerald

    ReplyDelete
  45. Wow!! So gorgeous!!

    ReplyDelete
  46. Thank you so much for giving them movie-appropriate names, I was also disappointed with the names.  Love your blog, stumbled on it a couple weeks ago!

    ReplyDelete
  47. do you think emerald black is a dupe/kind of a dupe of China Glaze's rodeo fanatic? :) (minus the CG's purpley sheen as well)

    ReplyDelete
  48. I'm not sure, I don't have that China Glaze :(

    ReplyDelete
  49. I just got these - wearing the Aqua Violet now - but it looks more like teal and a duochromeless teal at that.  Very odd.
