Goooood Morning! Today's post is my first 2012 collection to show you guys! I can't believe it's almost 2012, I thought we'd for sure have flying cars and robot maids by now...like the Jetsons. I totally had to stop writing this post for like 15 minutes so I could go watch clips of The Jetsons on youtube haha. Anyway, this is my first 2012 collection I've swatched and OMG what a way to start off, flakies galore!! I'm kind of wondering why flakies are the hot thing all of a sudden, like were they on clearance at the glitter factory or something so everyone is going to put them out now? I hope it keeps up, I'm such a sucker for them...they make everything just a bit better plus hello...you all saw my flakie-gasm post right? Amazing! Maybe next magnetic stuff can go on clearance so the wallet friendly brands can make a bazillion of those, that would be great!
I have a ton of photos under the cut, complete with these over something other than black! yay!
Asylum is a orange to blueish/purple flakie. It also has some flashes of yellow and green that you can see around the sides of my nails. I was most excited about this one, I don't *think* there is another flakie out that flashes exactly like this but I could be wrong about that (between Nfu Oh, Hits and Ludurana there might be a dupe?). The flakies are a bit sparse, I used 2 coats over black for the photos below.
Here is Asylum over China Glaze Traffic Jam...I LOVED this combo. The berry base really pops the purple in the flake glitter!
Flashy is a yellow, orange and green flakie. We've all seen this one before, it's similar to Sally Hansen Hidden Treasure, Nubar 2010 and Essie Shine Of The Times. If you have any of those you can probably pass on this (unless you are a freak like me and hoard flakies, then you need it). Flakie wise it was a bit sparse compared to something like Essie Shine Of The Times but it's not like you can't just add another layer or 2 and get the same opacity. I used 1 coat of Flashy over black for the photos below.
Here is Flashy over Nubar Baby Sprout, I loved this combo but OMG what a nightmare to try and photograph. It was subtle in real life but not as subtle as it appears in the photo.
Flecked is a bright green to blue flakie. I love this one, I haven't compared them side by side but it looks close to Nails Inc Old Vic and Inglot 204. Good news though...this one is a lot cheaper and the bottle is bigger than either of those, as Charlie Sheen would say...WINNING (sorry, I couldn't resist...who doesn't love cray cray Charlie Sheen??)!! The flakies in this one were a bit more dense than the previous 2 polishes, I think it looks pretty perfect with 1 coat over black!
Here is Flecked over Sephora by OPI Don't Feed The Hand Models. Putting flakies over nudes and whites are my favorite way to wear them...this combo was gorgeous! The flakies stood out but weren't nearly as in your face as they are over black.
Motley is a purple and green flakie, I call this the Barney. Yes, Barney like the big singing dinosaur...if he wore nail polish I bet he'd like this one because it matches his "skin". Anyway, this one was a little on the sparse side as well, I used 1 coat over black for the photos below. After I took these photos I added a second coat and preferred it that way.
Motley over Finger Paints Stunning Stiletto, I bet you'd never guess....I love this combo! The grey base really brought out the cool toned blueish purple in the flakies...gorgeous!
Twisted is the crowned jewel of awesomeness in this collection, the flakies in this one flash a whole rainbow of colors....purple, orange, yellow, green, blue etc... It's like Cult Nails Clairvoyant in a clear base. My easy favorite of the collection and the one I will be buying a back up of if I can ever find these at my local Sallys again. The flakies in Twisted were the most dense out of the 5 polishes you can easily do 1 coat with great flakie coverage...I used 1 coat over black for the photos below.
And since Twisted and Asylum looked similar-ish in the bottle here they are side by side. Clearly not dupes but sometimes it's nice to see things side by side.
Last but not least is Twisted over American Apparel Coney Island. This combo was awesome in person, and hard to photograph. It was very subtle but at the right angle you could see the whole rainbow of pastel looking flakies!
The Special Effects Collection from Finger Paints will be available at Sally Beauty Supply in January. They might have them in the back so if you go in with your sad face and beg maybe they will sell the to you now. Big giant THANK YOU to Lindsey from Sally Beauty for tracking these down for me when my local store wouldn't look in the back for me to see if these were in.
The Special Effects Collection are in store only and exclusive to Sally's, I'm bummed that they aren't online for those of you with no easy access to a store. I hope you can all get them if you want them! They are very affordable, if you have Sally's card they are $4.99 each...without a Sally's card they go for $5.49 each!
