Attraction is a grey/black with a subtle glitter. The formula was very thick on this one, it was good because you only needed one coat but it was not easy to apply. I used the star end of the magnet and while it came out okay on this shade it was hard to use. It's like the magnet wasn't strong so the design looked good for a second then got all blurry looking. Please see my pinky nail to see what I mean, that's what most of my nails looked like most of the time...I ended up redoing the other 3 nails in the photo 3 times to get the stars to look good.
Cling On is a dark and light green. I unfortunately don't love this like I thought I would but the name makes me laugh so it gets a pass haha! The formula on this one was very thin and a bit sheer, I used 2 coats for the photos below. The magnet used on this one is the diagonal stripes, it's no bueno. The design doesn't bend right around the nail like it does with the Icing magnet. I'm not sure if it's because the magnet isn't strong or what. I tried to make it work by rolling my finger to get the sides but it took about 15 seconds for the design to look good and by the time I got to the side of the nail it's like the polish was too dry and the design wouldn't pull. Hopefully that makes sense. I think this one would probably look a lot better with a different magnet.
Drawn To You is a light and dark purple with a very subtle glitter running throughout it. I really like this one even though I had the most magnet issues with it. The formula was a lot like Cling On...on the thin and sheer side but I only needed 2 coats. I used the chevron design on the China Glaze magnet for this one, it is by far the worst of the 3 magnets...I think the pictures do the talking here. I thought maybe it was the polish that was the problem so I grabbed my wavy magnet from my Icing magnetic polish and it worked a lot better as you can see on my ring finger.
Instant Chemistry is a dark vampy purple/magenta. The formula on this one was thick and only required 1 coat. I had issues with this, my brush was like crazy wonky...talk about frustrating, I hate when that happens. I used the diagonal stripes magnet on this one, same issues as I previously had but it does look better on the darker shade, perhaps because the sides where the design isn't showing up aren't as noticeable.
Pull Me Close is a blue/black, so pretty! By far my favorite shade of polish here, I love the contrast between the light blue and black. The formula was a bit thin and sheer but I only needed 2 coats. I used the awful chevron magnet again on this one...it sucks, no matter what I tried it looked like how it does below. I hope someone figures out how to make the chevron side work better so that I can actually use it in the future.
You Move Me is a light/dark brown. I was excited about this one, I thought maybe it would some how look like wood grain after you used the magnet...it kind of does in a weird abstract way haha! The formula was a bit thin and sheer, I used 2 coats. I used the star magnet on this one, it's okay but I did have issues with some nails and it completely like not getting any of the design on the side of the nail, you can see what I mean below.
Just for kicks I wanted to compare magnets with a couple I already had that were the same as the China Glaze design. Overall the China Glaze star magnet is a mile better than the LCN one, then the Icing diagonal stripe magnet was a lot stronger and pulled the design out a lot better the China Glaze one on the other 2 fingers.
On my index and middle finger I have the star magnet from LCN & China Glaze over Attraction. On the ring and pinky finger I have the diagonal stripe magnet from Icing and China Glaze over Cling On.
Alright now onto the magnet. I don't like it, sorry China Glaze. It's hard to use and the designs don't really come out that great. The magnet doesn't seem very strong and I was having to hold it over the nail for longer than magnets from the other brands I've tried. The chevron design was especially disappointing here, seriously if you get this and figure out some trick to make it work please let me know.
If you have Nails Inc or Icing magnets and don't want the star design on this one I'd probably pass on this. The other magnets work much better. Below are some photos of the magnet and whatnot, it does have the same little lip to rest on your cuticle like a few of the other magnets from other brands, I do like that. Unlike a lot of the other brands coming out with magnetic polish you have to purchase this one separately, I think it will be going for around $10. Also included in the box that I did not photograph are instructions...funny enough it says use only 1 coat of polish but 4 out of the 6 polishes are not opaque enough to only use 1 coat!
While I applaud China Glaze for doing this collection overall I don't love it like I thought I would...blame the crappy magnet for that. I was so frustrated that I almost said to hell with these swatches and quit about half way though...if you follow me on twitter you probably saw those ranty tweets haha! More than likely I will never use the magnet again, I'll be grabbing for the Icing magnets since they are my favorites of what I own. My favorites polish wise are Pull Me Close and Drawn To You!
The Magnetix Collection should be available everywhere Mid-February, the polishes will retail for $10 each, the magnet is separate and is also $10. I'm betting these will be up on most of the etailers like Transdesign, Head2Toe, VictoriasNailSupply etc... very soon so keep an eye out for them if you want them!

Instant chem and pull me close are gorgeous u make them look flawless sorry the formula sucked but u can't tell at all! Amazing swatches!
ReplyDeleteugh... it makes me so sad to read this =( wtf man... if you can't do it easily, then I definitely can't. I still may try one, but I'll use my Nails Inc magnet for sure and won't be buying this whole collection like I thought. =(
ReplyDeleteWhat a great review, and photos! The designs look so pretty though, but I'll be sure not to go for the China Glaze polishes! :) Stupid magnets! haha
ReplyDeleteThanks for this review...very helpful! They are already up on nailsupplies.us and transdesign!!!
ReplyDeleteI want them all :D
ReplyDeleteI had the same problems with my Layla magnets. After cursing and kicking things for a while I pulled the magnet off the bottle and put it onto a stiff but flexable piece of plastic so I could curve it over my nail, this worked wonders for me
ReplyDeleteso glad you reviewed these!!! Now I know to stay away from the magnet! I'll def get the blue one
ReplyDeleteI love the designs that came out of it. But that magnet looks difficult to work with.
ReplyDeleteGirl, these turned out lovely! I might have to call to see if someone has this in already. Thanks for the awesome swatches!!!
ReplyDeleteOh no! I was so excited for these, especially the chevron magnet. Thank goodness you posted this review before I bought any, I would have especially regretted buying the magnet for sure. Oh well, I'll keep using my Nails Inc. and see if I can find any of the Icing ones!
ReplyDeleteThe magnet not being very strong is a little disappointing, but I definitely wanted the Star design and it looks like it works better than the pricier LCN one, so I'm happy about that.
ReplyDeleteSaw your tweets & knew you were going crazy! I don't know if I'm loving the whole magnetic hype yet. I do have to agree... the Icing polishes looked a heck of a lot better!
ReplyDeleteAre genial! XoXo
ReplyDeleteInstant Chemistry is so pretty!!!
ReplyDeleteBummer about the magnets!!! I do like the colors though so maybe I'll substitute a different magnet to make them work... Thx so much for the awesome review!!!
ReplyDeleteToo bad these were disappointing! Great review though, this was super helpful!
ReplyDeletelove your nail length in this post girl! sorry these didn't turn out like you thought :( that's always a bummer.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your honest review, I will definitely get some of the unique shades but skip the magnet.
ReplyDeleteWOW! I am loving these shades! I never thought of the magnets being crap. I bought some magnetic polishes by Layla, and they don't do designs as well. I am going to try another magnet with them.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad that when I googled Nicki's OPI I saw your post! I am now following you and I love your posts! You speak your mind, detailed without the bore, & honest. Great!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE Pull Me Close and want it NOW! haha. Instant Chemistry also looks good. Always love it when the design pops with unexpected color. =)
ReplyDeleteToo bad the magnets aren't a little better! And I could totally pass on Attraction - the black Icing polish has that color down to a T.
Hopefully you can find a magnet that works well for you!
ReplyDeleteGlad it's helpful! Some of the shades are great, it's such a bummer that the magnet isn't amazing
ReplyDeleteThank you!! ♥
ReplyDeleteThanks! I'm glad it was helpful for you!
ReplyDeleteIf you have an Icing near you I'd at least get those, magnetic polishes is SO much better in person. They look 3D which is impossible to capture in photos!
ReplyDeleteIt is so much better than the LCN magnet, I think with some tinkering the China Glaze one could be awesome!
ReplyDeleteGlad it's helpful! I hope you can find the Icing ones!!
ReplyDeleteYou know who already has them! The display was pretty naked after I was done buying them yesterday but he might have more in the back!
ReplyDeleteIt was awful! I've been pretty lucky with not having major issues with the magnets on the other brands I've tried but I had to re-do each mani 3 or 4 times to get them even good enough to take pictures :(
ReplyDeleteThe blue one is great, I bet you'll love it!
ReplyDeleteThat's a great idea, I may need to do something like that. I really want to use the chevron magnet!
ReplyDeleteThanks! I wonder when they added them on transdesign, I didn't see them when I looked yesterday!! Glad they are up to buy!
ReplyDeleteInstant Chemistry is most definitely my fave.
ReplyDelete:( money saved at least! I hope with some practice the magnet will be easier to use but it was awful even getting them to look good enough to post.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the review! I'm not sure if I'm going to be picking up all of these. They seem kind of pricey in my opinion, but then again, it seems like all magnet polishes are. The ones I like the most are Attraction, Drawn To You, and Pull Me Close, but I probably won't be getting the magnet if it's as bad as you say.
ReplyDeleteI have a question! I've never used magnetic polish before (the gimmick doesn't really appeal to me) so I was wondering what the polish looks like just plain? Is there any way you could maybe show swatches of these colors without the use if the magnet? Because I really love the colour of Instant Chemistry! Please and thank you!
ReplyDeleteOh no!! That's too much work. I'll stick with my 17 Magnetized.
ReplyDeleteomg, i want them all... and the magnet particularly *.*
ReplyDeleteHopefully they will go down in price once more brands come out with them, the Icing ones aren't too bad since they are buy 1 get 1 half off! Hope you like the colors you end up getting!!
ReplyDeletehhhhmmmm i was really looking forward to these but was underwhelmed with the colours - thanks for an honest review, will stick with the magnetics i've got xx

ReplyDeleteI would love to see Drawn to You and You Move Me swatched with the good magnet from Icing, They look like such lovely colors! No, scrap that, I want to see them all swatched with a good magnet!! :)

ReplyDeleteI would also love to see these with the icing magnet. I ran out and bought all 4 from them. The one nail you did with their magnet looks superb and I wonder if all the colors would look as good. Would you do even just one nail in the other colors with their magnet? I'm super bummed about the chevron. The ad looks so clear.
ReplyDeleteHow disappointing! Glad I passed on the set I saw on e*b*ay. I really wanted the star. And we don't have any Icing stores here, I'd love the wavy magnet!
ReplyDeleteWell. Fooey. At least I have some Essence magnetic polishes, Nails Inc and a Layla!
Oh how disappointing! I was really looking forward to these too. Thanks for your honest review! Now to track down some of those Icing magnetic polishes :)
ReplyDeleteI *badly* want a star magnet, but...not that one, apparently :-(
ReplyDeleteThis is so pretty! I have the Nails Inc brand but they have limited colors. I will have to try this!
ReplyDeleteThey still leave a very cool look to the nail. I hate that it isn't doing EXACTLY what it is suppose to do or that it can be a little difficult to use, but I think I will still try it out.
ReplyDeleteI was really looking forward to this collection, but considering the coverage and that the magnet isn't strong and is sold separately, I think I'll be passing on these. But thank you for the honest review!
ReplyDeleteWow, what a bummer! I was hoping that China Glaze would hit this out of the park and am really surprised that Icing's magnets are of better quality. For 10 bucks a pop + the cost of the magnet, CG totally disappoints. :( Thanks for the great post!

ReplyDeleteI think I liked how the Icing ones looked better, although I think I might be enticed by Instant Chemistry. It's gorge. There was an SA at Ulta who really turned me off to magnetics, tho. I was going to try the Essence ones and she said theyre impossible and the magnets suck so that no one could possibly do it. But I see it's possible, so I may be lured in yet.
ReplyDeleteThank god I didnt pay 16 bucks for the Nails Inc. version. For the price of 2 Nails Inc. I can get the whole China Glaze Magnetix collection!
ReplyDeleteWhat a waste of money the magnet is. I like that Layla polishes have the magnets a attached.
ReplyDeleteWow! I am so happy to hear that I wasn't the only one dealing with these issues. I bought attraction and cling on. I am almost tempted to purchase the icing polish just to give it a try. Do you have to purchase the magnet separately?

ReplyDeleteDang, I wish Icing had a star magnet! Instant Chemistry looks nice, might pick that one up and hope I don't get a wonky brush! Thank you for all these awesome swatches!
ReplyDeleteI like the idea of magnetic polishes, but I'm already such a klutz that I don't know if I'll be able to make them work! They seem so fiddly somehow.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the amazing post! Looks like you really put a lot of time and effort into it. If someone like you who is so good at nail polish had so much trouble with the ChG magnetics, I think I had better reconsider getting them :( Especially since they cost so much more than the normal ChG polishes.
The magnet comes with the Icing polishes!
ReplyDeletehi,
ReplyDeletehave any video can show, how to apply into the nail? its amazing! :)
hi,

ReplyDeleteThat´s so dissapointing! I have three Essence magnetic polishes and like this, the magnet is sold apart. And it´s horrible! I couldn´t do anything with it!! I was planning on buying the china Glaze to try with my polishes, but I will pass!! I will try to get two Icing with both patterns... two bad about the strar though :(
ReplyDeleteThanks for the swatches!!
BTW, they are available at www.8ty8beauty.com at $4.08 each!
Dang it! I was so excited for these. I guessssss I'm going to have to stop by Icing and give those a try!
ReplyDeletei wish i knew the essence were so bad BEFORE buying three! lol

ReplyDeleteI just ordered some of these off of nailogy.com, they were $4.5 each & shipping was only $7. I'm a little worried about them now after reading your review, but if I find something that works I will let you know. If I'm having the same problem, I will Let you know
ReplyDeleteI don't see what is wrong with these, they look awesome!
ReplyDeleteahh so i wasn't the only one with the issue with these magnets. I have attraction and instant chemistry. The chevron pattern really doesn't work on me either, and the star one took me forever to use. it feels like the mnagnet can cover a large part of your nail but the design comes out smaller, so it looks like a block of pattern on your nails LOL happened so many times -_-
ReplyDeletewhile the magnet itself is cute, it doesn't seem strong like you said. though my designs didn't come out nearly as well as yours, your instant chemistry one came out great. Might consider buying a few more (ou move me & pull me close), but I'm looking into the icing ones. :D
I didn't realize that it was the magnet and not user error that was causing me to have problems with the chevron and star patterns. I'm really disappointed in this collection. The polish is so expensive for having colors that I feel are very blah. It also really irks me that I had to shell out as much as the polish cost for the magnet, and the magnet is of inferior quality! I would suggest to others that you guys go with Icing brand or a drugstore brand, it'll end up costing you less than the CG and the colors selection will be better! Nouveau Cheap just posted a review today for a $7.99 drug store magnetic.

I love all of these I have to get them right away
ReplyDeleteI wonder if you could somehow switch out the magnets on the back of the applicator. They look like normal magnets, it'd be interesting to see if you could pry them off and replace them with something stronger and have it still work.
ReplyDeletethat's an idea, I bet it would be possible. The magnets on the China Glaze magnet seem to be a lot thinner than the ones from other brands
ReplyDeleteI bought the China Glaze Magnetix Down To you and Attraction from http://www.labeautyzone.com, I the magnet to make the patterns on the nail, it had the 3d look.
ReplyDeleteI was excited to see that China Glaze was doing a magnetic polish collection, and even more excited when I saw your pictures! I'm sad they are disappointing though. I appreciate how informative your post was, and I think I'll avoid buyin these.
ReplyDeleteOnly suggestion I would have is to use the magnet from the nails inc polish or go to a craft store and buy some stronger magnets to stick on there.
ReplyDeleteI just bought and tried mine today and had the same problem with the CG magnet...I was thinking maybe my application method was faulty or maybe I ruined the magnet (because I cleaned it with nail polish remover) but you seem to be having the same problems. I really want the starburst design...where did you get your Icing magnet from?
ReplyDeleteI wish I had read your post before I purchased 2 of these. I like the colors, but the magnet is awful. One coat doesn't work and even doing two coats didn't get the best effect. I'll stick to the Nails Inc. magnetic polish that I have. It's much better!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE THE ICING AND CLAIRES MAGNETIC POLISH. THEY ROCK!!
ReplyDeleteI got the magnet to work better by holding it for 20+ seconds instead of just 10.
ReplyDelete
