Mad Max is a blue to purple duochrome shimmer. It looked like it would be a 3 or 4 coater on it's own so I ended up using 1 coat over SpaRitual Undercurrent when I wore this mani. Undercurrent is a really gorgeous cobalt blue...I'll have swatches of it up later this week! I think putting it over a darker shade really ended up being the best decision, the duochrome on it's own was a bit hidden but over the darker base it really came out to play! It was SO obvious in person but so hard to capture on camera for some reason :( Sorry about the minor tip wear in these photos, I took the photos after almost 2 days of wear!
Just because I know someone will ask...the bottle I'm holding in the last 2 pictures is a Color Club base coat. The Kat Von D bottle is super cute...but kind of a pain in the butt to hold and get good pictures of my nails with :)
this photo was in the shadiest spot I could find, apparently my camera could only capture the purple in that awful light...wtf camera!
this photo is in "normal" shade
this photo is in indirect sunlight! so pretty!
I really do love this polish but it's very small, .25 oz...aka half the size of a full sized OPI or China Glaze. For the amount of polish you get I think the $12 price tag is a bit ridiculous. While this is very pretty I really doubt I'll be buying another Kat Von D polish unless the price goes down or the bottle size goes up.
The Kat Von D High Voltage Lacquers are available exclusively from Sephora. I bought mine online at Sephora.com, it was $12...I'm not sure if these are in actual Sephora stores yet!

Loove it!! I wish I had the money to get it....
ReplyDeleteDefinitely love this polish, but the only thing I'm complaining about is the price. I refuse to spend such an amout for a small-size polish. It’s quite out of the question! And I'm sorry for that, 'cause this shade is really really charming!Maybe I can try to find a dupe somewhere....
ReplyDeleteOmgsh this is sooooo pretty :)
ReplyDeleteWhat more can I say! It's definitely beautiful. Definitely gonna buy this as one of my pedicure spa supply. Do you change your nail polish everyday?
ReplyDeleteGosh this is so gorgeous!!
ReplyDeleteI can't believe it!!
So Gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteThe price is a bit steep indeed, but the color is gorgeous :)
ReplyDeleteHmm on the first shot it looked almost exactly like an Essie Dive Bar dupe... but on the following ones I realized that it's totally different. Quite pretty, but the price tag turns me off a bit...
ReplyDeleteholy cow!! STUNNING!
ReplyDeleteAww I like it! Bummer about the price... its a nifty looking color tho!
ReplyDeleteIt's so pretty!! But I agree about the price.
ReplyDeleteThis Kat VD collection really reminds me of Bettina's Disco Collection. But they are so awesome though. I love the color shift.
ReplyDeleteThis is really pretty. I've been on the fence on getting these, I did like mad max the best upon seeing these on Sephora...but I have to get over my dislike of Kat Von D first.
ReplyDeletePurdy! I don't think I would buy these at that price ether! Oh well!
ReplyDeleteI agree, the bottle size is ridiculous. I got Mad Max too, but mine hasn't arrived yet. Not sure I'm keeping it.
ReplyDeleteVery pretty! I just love your nails--you were blessed with beautiful ones with a great shape! I'm new to your blog so this is probably a dumb question, but I was wondering if you wrap your tips when you polish? It's something I've started doing and my tips take a lot longer to start showing wear now, despite typing 8+ hours a day.
ReplyDeleteVery pretty! Love the duochrome effect-I have no polishes like this yet. Your nails are very pretty and have such a nice shape! I'm new here so this might be a dumb question but I was wondering if you wrap your tips when you polish? It's something I just started doing and it now takes several days for my tips to start showing wear, despite typing 8+ hours a day. It's great!
ReplyDeleteWow! That really is beautiful. $12 though... Have to wait for a sale!
ReplyDeleteI agree that the price is high, but honestly, why does the bottle size matter? (other than minis since the brush can be a little harder to work with)
ReplyDeleteI have never run out of a nail polish color (I have about 50 bottles and change my nail polish once a week or every 2 weeks) and I assume you would never run out either, even though you change your nail color often, because you have so many colors.
I wish you could buy nail polish in half size bottles for half price but of course companies never do that!
this polish is wonderful!!! I love it!!!!
ReplyDeleteI like the idea of mini bottles but my issue with the size of this one is the $12 price tag attached to it. I'd have no issues if it were the same size and only $6 lol
ReplyDeleteIt kind of looks like when I layered Sally Hansen DVD over a dark purple. So for that price and the small bottle size I'd pass.
ReplyDeleteThis looks so much better than it did on Scrangie's swatches!
ReplyDeleteOuch. I really like the color, but 12$ for .25oz. is a bit steep.
ReplyDeleteReally beautiful but seriously Miss Von D, the price is ridiculous! However, I'd pay a ton to have her tattoo me. :)
ReplyDeleteVery nice but I agree price for the small bottle is an investment all if kay von d procucts are lol....but if your truely a polish freak you'll make the sacrifice if you want it :-)
ReplyDeleteVery nice...but I do think the price is a bit steep for the bottle size..but I guess if your a true polish freak you will make the sacrifice if you want it :-)
ReplyDeleteLoving this...have to go on a shopping trip to see if my Sephora has polish from Kat
ReplyDeleteLove the color!..... Not the price tag!
ReplyDeleteSuch a stunning color but your right that price is high for a small bottle
ReplyDeleteOMG I so need this and all the other Kat Von D polishes! <3
ReplyDeleteBummed about the price on this tiny thing but it is gorgeous and I will probably pick it up anyway! Thanks for the pics :)
ReplyDeleteThis polish is really stunning! But I'm sure it won't never be available in Italy, sigh. The Sephora store in my city seems to have only three brands: Sephora, Sephora and Sephora. Sometimes some random MUFE and Benefit products. :(
ReplyDeletelove this! they are in Sephora stores btw, I went Monday..and the yellow one from this line was sold out.
ReplyDeleteIs stunning. But the price is ridiculous.
ReplyDeleteOh how I wish these were available in the UK! Wish I lived in the US purely for the beauty products sometimes!!
ReplyDeleteAbbi xx
Surprisingly, I don't like it. I'm not sure what it is but it's just not doing it for me. Hmmm...
ReplyDeleteWant to know something awesome? I stumbled across this today and realized it looked exactly like my nails I have on right now! I used Finger Paints Amethyst Atelier (one coat) underneath one coat of Sally Hansen's HD DVD and it looks exactly like this. I'm sure it's a lot cheaper too. :)
