Good morning! Today I have another drool worthy polish from Layla's Hologram Effect collection to show you guys. This is by far the one I was most excited about, Flash Black! Since I will probably never get the original version of OPI's My Private Jet I am always on the lookout for a black holo that will fullfill my need for My Private Jet.
Flash Black is a charcoal/black linear holo and it is amazing. This is crazy holo like whoa, imagine what you see in the photos but even more holo in real life. In my lightbox this baby was throwing off double rainbows, I couldn't capture it in photos but it was gorgeous! The formula was good in my opinion, but you do have to be patient with these polishes. I had the best luck with them by letting my base coat completely dry and waiting for each layer of polish to dry before doing the next coat. I've been trying these out with different base coats and I can tell you that it does affect how easy or difficult they are to apply.
I used Flash Black over Nfu Oh's Aqua Base and it was a breeze to apply in 2 coats. If you have these Layla polishes or are thinking about buying them I would strongly suggest getting Nfu Oh's Aqua Base, it's pricey at $12.50 for a bottle but it makes applying these so much easier. As I review more of the Layla holos I'll let you guys know my base coat and how easy (or difficult) application was with it!
All photos below are in direct sunlight and without top coat...I haven't found a top coat yet that doesn't dull the holo on these. If I find one I'll let you guys know!
The 2 photos below were taken with a different camera than above, which is why my skin looks more tan lol. These show the base color of the polish better than the photos above which show the holo better :)
Layla Hologram Effect polishes are available from AveYou.com for $15.50 each, I got mine there and am super impressed by them. Both times I bought these my orders shipped in a couple of hours and got to me from all the way across the US really fast! You can also get them online from Harlow & Co, they are $16 there! These Layla polishes will also be available at Ulta, last I heard they would be there in May but who knows...maybe they will get them sooner! If you're looking for the Nfu Oh Aqua Base I mentioned earlier that can be found on FabulouStreet.com!

Want this polish so bad.
ReplyDeleteThis is so gorgeous! I'd love to have this! Sadly my mom will never buy it, so I'll just settle with looking at your photos :P
ReplyDelete*swoons* I have this color and can't wait to try it! I hope it looks as gorgeous on my tips as it does in your pictures!
ReplyDeletethat is holo amazing!!!
ReplyDeleteNice!!! kinda figured that out I have the Jessica holo-basecoat; so when I wear Holos, I will use a layer of that-pretty much the same as Nfu-Oh. Want that heavy-holo like you got there :)
ReplyDeletewoooh... that's really intense *_* Really pretty!
ReplyDeletesuper pretty! Harlow & Co is also having these Layla polishes, for $16.
ReplyDeleteWooh so gorgeous. There are so many rainbows you can barely tell that the polish is black LOL.
ReplyDeleteto die for!
ReplyDeleteOmg!! This looks amazing!!!! So expensive though.
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to get my hands on some Layla holos. So gorgeous! The holo is crazy! Nothing subtle about that!
ReplyDeleteI have this! :) & I compared it to Let's Do it in 3D from China Glaze. This is much darker though :)
ReplyDeleteI got my order fast too! It shipped within 45 minutes! I was so impressed, I can't wait to wear my Ultra Violet, this one looks fabulous on you!!
ReplyDeleteHow crazy is it that I DO have the original MPJ but I'm still yearning for that one? There's something about a black holo that I cannot resist it seems!! Gorgeous swatches
ReplyDeleteWHOOOOAAA. I need!
ReplyDeleteOne question though - I've read that Layla has a special buffer that should be used before applying their holographic polishes. I guess it worked for you with just a base coat? Which base did you use? (I'd love to not have to get the buffer). Thanks!!
Hahaha! When you were comparing this to MPJ I was thinking "What? Looks nothing like it! It's not dark enough". That's because the holo was so strong I couldn't see the base colour. I had to stare at the photos for a while to see the charcoal. Now THAT'S a good holo!
ReplyDeleteyou sold me on these! it looks amazing on you ! love it!
ReplyDeleteHoly amazeballs!
ReplyDeleteYou don't have to use a buffer. I talked about the base coat I used in detail in the post
ReplyDeleteAmazing!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous! I just wish I could find nice holos in stores. I don't like ordering things online. :/
ReplyDeleteOMG SUPER HOLO ALARM!!! This looks amazing!
ReplyDeleteDarn now I'm considering getting this online...I WAS going to wait until May...but May is so far away!
ReplyDeleteI think I really need this one...
ReplyDeleteVerunka
Ah, such beauty on your nails, looks great on you!
ReplyDeleteI was super happy to have found these yesterday during my European travels that I wanted to get the whole line, but they're not cheaper here either, so I opted for 4 of them. I can't wait to try them on. Too bad there's no sun out today.
whoah...that is quite the holo! Love it!
ReplyDeleteHoly crap that is some serious holo. Very beautiful.
ReplyDeleteSaid it on Twitter already but also here: this looks so gorgeous! I really really really need me some of these <3.

ReplyDeleteWOW! This one is going on my list. Not only do I love the holos they make, but love the name of their company. EC's song always has a huge place in my heart.
ReplyDeleteOh. and forgot to add, the holo version of My Private Jet is not nearly as holo as this is.
ReplyDeleteThat is stunning. I have the Aqua Base so I obviously need this too. LOL

ReplyDeletexx Kelly www.MessyDirtyHair.com
This one is also my favourite out of the 4 I own. I used a transparent polish over it instead of regular top coat and the holo effect was still there, actually even better!
ReplyDeleteomg rainbow holo awesomenessssssss! I need this now, thanks!;P
ReplyDeletehave this polish and I'm in love! can't get enough of holos... the more, the merrier! read some where that nail foil glue is a great base for holos, and inexpensive. the Layla buffer is no different than any other buffer I have.
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to get my hands on some Layla holos. So gorgeous! The holo is crazy! Nothing subtle about that!
ReplyDeleteI use rock top coat on my holos, it dulls it just a teeny bit but not enough to where i will not use this top coat. but this top coat works best cured in the sun or with a UV light
ReplyDeleteGorgeous holo, its in my untrieds. Must try soon!
ReplyDeleteJust bought this--I don't have Aqua base and yours looks WAY better than mine. I'll have to grab it!
