Happy Sunday! Quick NOTD to show you guys. This started out as me trying to make my own layering version of the discontinued Deborah Lippmann polished called Funky Chunky which is black with chunky black glitter. My layering was a giant fail so I decided to try and save it with flakies...flakies fix everything. I taped off the tips and added a couple coats of Finger Paints Twisted. I really love the way it turned out, especially with a matte top coat!
This is 1 coat of OPI Black Onyx topped with a coat of Nubar Black Polka Dots and the tips are Finger Paints Twisted.
Isn't is weird that with a matte top coat you can't see the fail that was Nubar Black Polka Dots, but in the glossy 2nd picture you can see the texture from the glitter. I thought it would be the other way around.

ReplyDeleteLove it!
ReplyDeleteThis is so cool, I've never seen anything like it!
ReplyDeleteThat's a great idea! I love how the different colors of the flakies stand out against the black base polish!
ReplyDeleteI love how it looks with the matte top coat, infact i think i may have to buy one, it makes the black look great x
ReplyDeleteIt looks awesome, especially the matte version! I love flakies as tips. I've used a matte top coat on crackle and it does the same thing it did for you and the glitter. The ridges from the crackle seem to melt right into the base color. It ends up looking almost like you're wearing a polish strip design, like from Sally Hansen, rather than having put on crackle yourself. I think matte top coats must be magic, lol!
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh this is amazing! Such a great idea :D
ReplyDeleteawesome! love it with the matte! <3
ReplyDeletefreakin looks awesome...i may just have to finally get myself a matte topcoat after seeing this!

ReplyDeleteThis is so different from other versions of flakies ive seen! never thought of just doing the tips!
ReplyDeleteThis is gorgeous!!!
ReplyDeleteI love the Essie Matte Top Coat! Have to admit, I never thought of using my flakies for a French tip! And yes, when reading that you had Nubar Black Polka Dots on your nails, I only had the matte photo showing and I looked right away at that photo and thought, no...when I read on she's going to tell me it was such a mess she had to take it all off and start over. What a great save! I remember that DL disc. polish you were trying to come up with. The closest I have found to it was in the Nicki M. OPI collection this Jan in I think it's called Metal 4 Ever which is a back and tarnished silver in a black base. It's not my fav polish by far - many really liked it. I think you could mix it with some Black Onxy and maybe come close to that old discontinued DL polish only more chunky.
ReplyDeleteThat is really neat! I want to try the flakie tips now!
ReplyDeleteNever thought of doing flakie tips! It looks great, especially the matte! Will have to try this now, haha.
ReplyDeleteOhh man!! That is super beautiful!! I LOVE it!
ReplyDeleteThis looks awesome! I have never tried this whole "Matte" craze BUT I do like the way this looks! I may have to investigate! lol I did have a question-when you use a Matte top coat, does it act and protect the same way as a glossy top coat does? I
ReplyDeleteamazing! *w*
