Essie Summer 2012 Poppy-Razzi Collection Swatches!

Happy Monday! Hope everyone had a good weekend! It was supposed to be beautiful here this weekend and it turned out being super crappy, especially yesterday :( It was all yucky and gross here, not sure if this is a California thing but they always call it "June Gloom"...I guess we can call it April gloom now also haha!

Before I talk about polish I wanted to take a second to thank you all for the wonderful comments on my Facebook, & Twitter along with the comments on my 2 year blogging anniversary post from last week. The winner of  the $100 Gift Card to Harlow & Co is Kim J.!! I have emailed her and am waiting to hear back. It was so fun to read though everyone's lemmings, a lot of you are on the hunt for indie polishes! I saw a lot of Lynnderellas and Dollish Polish being lusted after! Also a lot of people after Clarins 230! I hope you guys all manage to get your hands on these lemmings! There are few things more satisfying in terms of nail polish than finally getting a polish you've been obsessing over for a long time!

Today I have Essie's Summer 2012 Poppy-Razzi Collection to show you guys. I was SO EXCITED for this collection, it's 4 neon polishes from Essie. I gotta say, Essie has become a favorite brand of mine. I always steered clear of them but the last couple of years they have really stepped outside of the boring shades they were always putting out. I squealed a little bit when I saw these at Rite Aid and I am loving them on too, I hope you guys like them also!

Click the read more button below for swatches & reviews of each shade!

A few things about all 4 polishes, they are brighter in real life...they are not eye searing neons but it's impossible to capture just how bright they are in photos. These all dry a bit satin matte, I do have a top coat over each one for the photos below. The formula on all of these was pretty awesome, I'll talk about it more with each shade but as of right now they are the nicest neons I've tried! They all have a bit of a jelly like finish, like a much more pigmented version of the Sorbet polishes OPI put out last Spring in the Texas Collection.

Action is a traffic cone orange neon. This one was a bit deciving in the bottle...it looked very muted, almost like a cantaloupe kind of orange. Once it was on the nail it was very bright, nothing like I expected from the bottle. Just wanted to warn you since it was the only one that was very different from the bottle to the nail, I don't want you guys to be like wtf if you see this in a store and think it's not neon. The formula was nice on this, it was on the sheer side but it was much more pigmented than a normal neon polish. It was a little thick but that made it easy to apply. Because of the thickness of the polish I'd recommend waiting a good 2-3 minutes between coats. I used 3 coats of Action for the photos below.

Bazooka is an orange toned red. This one is nice and bright but I'm not sure about neon, I don't think red can be neon haha. This was really nicely pigmented and had the same kind of formula as Action did. I used 3 coats for the photos below.

Camera is a beautiful coral. Again not eye searing but very bright. This is perfection for summer, I already know I will be wearing this a bunch on my toes! The formula was great, nicely pigmented and a little bit thick (in a good way!). I used 3 coats for the photos below.

Lights is a bright pink! Again, very bright but not an eye searing neon. I was kind of hoping this would be brighter, it was brighter in real life but not the crazy neon like whoa that I was expecting. The formula was the best out of the 4 polishes, I only needed 2 coats for the photos below.

Overall I really like this collection, a couple of the polishes do remind me of the OPI sorbets (specifically Bazooka and Camera) but I love them either way since they are much more pigmented. I do wish they were more in your face neons...I'm talking like China Glaze Flip Flop Fantasy...but there are so many neons coming out for summer (China Glaze and Orly both have neons for Summer!) I bet in the long run I'l be happy that these aren't like that!

The Poppy-Razzi Collection is out now, I picked mine up at Rite Aid. I went to several drugstores this weekend and didn't see it at any of the CVS or Walgreens stores near me yet but I'm sure it's only a matter of time until they get them!

  1. I wasn't able to put in a polish answer on the giveaway - after I clicked that one it asked the question but I could not find a spot to write an answer? (Maybe it's a Firefox problem?) I finally had to click 'submit' to send in a blank answer.

  4. Amazing colors! I like them for summer

  5. The Essie display at Trade Secrets that I saw these at recommended using Essie blanc as a base. I wonder if this would enhance their brightness -- did you try? I have blanc but passed on all of these though I'm now considering Action.

  6. I like the coral one! And how funny how you describe the orange one like wtf hahaha

  7. Love these! I agree with you that Essie has really been stepping it up lately. The neons are fabulous :)

  8. I've been looking for a nice bright red! Bazooka is perfect!

  9. I actually had to shield my eyes from the brightness when I got to Lights! Totally lemming right now.

  10. I have been trying to swear off of Essie - their formula has disappointed me every time I've bought them. But, these might be hard to resist! I've been wanting colors like these and they might win out over my better judgement! Thanks for sharing!

  12. Oh no... I'll never be able to decide between Bazooka and Camera... I think I will get Camera first now that I've seen your swatches though! (to be honest I kind of want all of them but I'm not to the stage where I can just buy a whole collection at once yet lol) I'm going on a haul today so this was perfect timing. Thanks as always!! :)

  13. Your blog has become one of 3 blogs I love most. Your nails are PERFECT! Your writing style &creativity are the best. Keep up the great work!

  14. My bottle of Lights is drastically brighter than it looks in your photos...I think I WOULD call it eye-searing...My friend saw the bottle and said "WHOA! I don't think it's legal to drive while wearing that!" Haha...I wonder if our bottles are a little different???

  15. I mentioned at the beginning of the post that they did not photograph as bright as they are in real life. Maybe our definition of eye searing is different? iIt is very bright but not nearly as bright as the pink neons that came out with the China Glaze Poolside Collection :)

  16. Beautiful swatches! I loved Lights and Camera. What kind of base did you use with these? Because you didn´t say anything if you use Blanc as a base, really  enhance their brightness?

  17. They are just over my normal base coat. I didn't layer them over white

    ReplyDelete
  18. I haven't tried them that way yet, usually I only put neons over white if they formula is super sheer. I need to do it with these, see if it does make them brighter!

  19. These are gorgeous!  I really love the formula on Essie's polishes.  I'll definitely be picking these up.  I've been obsessed with orange polish lately!

  20.  thanks! perhaps they look brigther with it, as you wish, right?

  21. Bazooka and Camera are gorgeous!!

  22. Love Lights and Camera!!! I wish Essie's formula was better, because then I'd actually go buy these. But I've regretted every Essie purchase I ever made...

  23. Here I am trying not to buy nail polish and now I'm planning a trip to Rite Aid. I think I actually want all of those polishes. You swatches are beautiful.

  24. Bazooka looks so perfect on your skintone!

  25. Thank you ♥

  26. I die for Camera. I'm all about bright orangey reds this spring/summer.

  27. Love these! I recently got Dior Lucky--do you have it and if so could you say how close they are? Thanks!!

    ReplyDelete
  28. I don't own that Dior, sorry!

  29. Camera is so pretty!

  30. I feel that camera is very similar for Essie's e-nuf is e-nuf.  Though camera may be a tad brighter, it doesn't feel like a particularly 'new' colour for Essie.  I know I'll be picking up Action and Bazooka but the others don't grab me as much.

  31. Action is awesome!!!

  32. Ugh I totally hear you on the weather thing! I live in Cali also (SoCal) and I just painted my nails with a holo and I wanted to take pictures but it's drizzling!! Oh well, April showers bring May flowers! About the nail polish, I really like Camera!

  33. Speaking of Orly ... I am eagerly waiting for the neon colors, I mean its pretty obnoxious how excited I am. I saw these in the Ulta flyer that I received in the mail.

I am in love with your blog and frequent it often.

  34. I like Bazooka and Camera! Thanks for swatching!

    ReplyDelete
  35. OH. MY. GOD. I will be needing all four of these, they're awesome!!

    ReplyDelete
  36. These are perfect summery colors. So bright and fun. :)

  37. I work at a beauty supply store & I actually set this collection display up yesterday,& they are meant to be painted on a color called "Blanc" (which is another color in this collection as well as the Super Duper Top Coat) so I'm assuming that its what gives it that true neon effect.

    ReplyDelete
  38. I am in love with this collection - especially Action! I wish I could find them in stores!!

    ReplyDelete
  39. I feel like Camera and Bazooka are way too close to Ole Caliente and Orange, It's Obvious. I just grabbed the other two from Rite Aid tonight though, I can't wait to try them!

    ReplyDelete
  40. I'm so excited about this collection! Such great colors for summer. Not so much neon like their past collections- I'm thinking punchy pink neon! But good nonetheless. Would you say Camera is a dupe for OPI's Guy Meets Gal-veston? It looks like it's almost a jelly and pretty similar in color.

    ReplyDelete
  41. I bought Lights and Camera at Ulta yesterday, and I'm LOVING Lights!! The display set had a white in there and suggested layering over that, but it turned out lovely without it!

    ReplyDelete
  42. It's very similar to the OPI but not a dupe, it's a bit brighter and much more opaque

    ReplyDelete
  43. I wonder how camera looks compared to opi's guy meets gal-veston

    ReplyDelete
  44. why do they keep making orange and hot pinks in their latest collections.. the navigate her and poppy razzi collection BOTH have hot pinks and oranges that i swear look the same.. just saw a preview pic of their summer 2012 "bikini" collection and they have another very similar hot pink and orange!!! am i the only one bothered by this???

    ReplyDelete
  45. I was thinking the same exact thing!!! did u see the preview of their summer collection thats coming out in june??? theres another hot pink and orange coming out (again)...

    ReplyDelete
  46. Im hoping that this collection will come to Vasa (Finland) too :) We still have the Navigate her collection here... I love all of these polishes :) I don´t know why but I just love them :)
I am a huge photograph lover so that might be it :D

  47. I've been looking for "Camera" everywhere - always sold out!
It reminds me of a bright version of Essie Peach Daiquiri - which I love.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Didn't like these at all, and I usually love Essie. Even the "boring" colors they had years ago.

I actually found these difficult to apply and rather streaky, even with a good base coat.

The sort of "jelly" texture might be good for layering with a large glitter polish maybe, but on their own they were a disappointment for me.

    ReplyDelete
  49. did you use the blanc under ??

    ReplyDelete
  50. nope, each polish is on it's own.

    ReplyDelete
  51. I love Camera, it applies great over white polish and looks bright! I haven't owned a "basic" red nail polish in years and I was kinda looking for one, so this was perfect timing - neon red, not boring, but still a classic. ;) Swooning over Lights too...!

    ReplyDelete
  52. Check out Models Own "Hedonist" for a truly neon red. Believe me, it is. :)

  53. these are so hot, i wish i'd been into essie 2 years ago!! xo

    ReplyDelete
  54. I posted a comment here last night to this article saying i thought these polishes were hot and that I wished I'd been into essie a couple of years ago when they were out new, so I could've gotten them (I found a bottle of action on clearance at rite aid last night). I don't understand why that comment was marked as "spam" but if you prefer, I'll simply refrain from reading or commenting at your site altogether?

    ReplyDelete
  55. Pretty sure it's disqus automatically marking your comments as "spam", I approved them. Maybe you should contact them and ask why they send your comments there?

    ReplyDelete
  56. Thanks for clarifying that the spam-designation is not being applied by the blog! Cheers!

    ReplyDelete
  57. no prob :) I don't ever mark stuff as spam, disqus is just weird sometimes and puts comments there even when they don't have links :/

    ReplyDelete
  58. You're the best! Keep up the great work - I love your site!! :))

    ReplyDelete
  59. quick follow-up - you don't need to actually publish this comment if you don't want. I just wanted to let you know what happened...

...b/c I frustratingly was having the same issue commenting on other sites, where my posts, which mostly would start getting upvoted pretty quickly, were then being flagged as "SPAM"!!

This weekend, five comments in a row to one news site were flagged as Spam and it upset me so much that I finally did what you suggested and contacted Disqus. They acknowledged their error and explained that once one of my comments was mistakenly automatically flagged as spam, the error cascaded and more and more were also improperly flagged, including those to your site.

So thanks again for helping me to figure this out and suggesting the error was with Disqus. ciao! :)

    ReplyDelete
  60. Whew! Glad you got that figured out with them, that is frustrating!
