Hi guys! Today I have a Fall collection to show you guys...yep, already! Seems mighty early, I know. I thought about holding off on posting these since Summer hasn't even officially started but I changed my mind because I've been looking forward to this collection for a while!
China Glaze's On Safari Collection has been something I've been looking forward to since the first photos of it popped up a few months ago. I love the theme and color palette! Fall collections are usually my favorites, I don't know why...maybe the dusty dark shades or something, they make me happy (is that weird?). I tend to wear these kinds of colors year round, I don't really care if they fit with the season or not. It's pretty much always Summer in So Cal anyway so it's not like I even have a "Fall" to wear them in. Anyway, hope you all enjoy the swatches. Check out all the photos after the jump!
To see swatches & reviews of each shade click the Read More button below!
Adventure Red-y- is a red creme. This is a bit more brown toned in real life than it's looking in my photos. The formula was pretty good, it was on the thick side but it was very easy to apply. I used 2 coats for the photos below!
 |
| Shade (sorry about the blur :( ) |
Call of the Wild is a dark brown creme. This is a nice vampy brown, the kind I love! As dark as this is it wasn't so dark that it looked black indoors and in low light! The formula was a little thick but very easy to work with. I used 2 coats for the photos below!
 |
| Shade |
Desert Sun is a butterscotch colored creme. This color kind of reminds me of the lollipops I used to get from Sees Candy when I was a kid. Like if you melted the butterscotch one down and put it on your nails this would be the outcome. I'm not sure I really love this on my skintone but I do love the color, I don't feel like I already have a dupe in my stash. The formula was really nice, I used 2 coats for the photos below.
 |
| Shade |
Elephant Walk is a light grey with a subtle silver shimmer. This one reminds me of Nubar Earthen (I realized it's much darker when I grabbed my bottle of Earthen but same idea). The shimmer isn't so subtle that you are squinting to see it but it's also not likely that you're going to see it unless you are out in the sun or under bright lights. The formula was nice on this one, I used 2 coats for the photos below.
 |
| Shade |
Exotic Encounters is a green leaning teal creme. This color is one of my favorites from the collection, I don't know since why I probably have some like it but it just feels different. It was the one out of the whole collection when I saw these in store that I was drawn to. The formula was really great on this one! I used 2 coats for the photos below.
 |
| Shade |
I Herd That is very fine red, gold, orange and holographic glitter in a clear base. This (and the next polish) remind me a lot of the awesome glitters China Glaze put out during the holidays as Ulta Exclusives. Remember those? You can see my swatches
here if you have no idea what I'm talking about. I liked the formula of this one, it wasn't thick but it had really nice glitter coverage in one coat. It's definitely one that can be worn on it's own, I'm guessing it would take 3 coats! I used 1 coat over Desert Sun for the photos below. All photos below are with top coat and in the sun!
I'm Not Lion is gold, silver and holographic glitter in a clear base. The way the colors of glitter blend together here it looks like a sandy nude kind of color, I really like it! The formula was exactly the same as I Herd That! I used 1 coat over Kalahari Kiss for the photos below. While I was putting this over my index finger a big blob of polish came out of nowhere so I'd call that nail 2 coats of I'm Not Lion lol! All photos below are with top coat!

| Shade |
Jungle Queen is a dark smoky purple/grey/brown with a subtle purple shimmer. Remind you of something? I'll have a comparison below :) The shimmer is very hidden in this one, I could see it in the bottle but it wasn't very obvious on the nail even in the sun. The formula was okay, it was a bit thin and watery on the first coat but as I went and the bottle was open it thickened up to be a little nicer and easy to work with. I used 2 coats for the photos below.
 |
| Shade |
Jungle Queen VS Chanel Paradoxal. These 2 are very close, the only minor differences are Paradoxal has a more obvious shimmer and Jungle Queen is a touch darker. I wouldn't call them 100% dupes but close enough to not justify needing both! I used 2 coats of each for the photo below.
Kalahari Kiss is a light golden creme. This one I didn't think much of in the bottle, even the guy at my supply store was like "you have to see this on the nail, it's much better that way" (he's so cute, he was more excited about this collection than I was) He was also right about this one, it's much better on the nail than in the bottle. The formula was really nice, a little thick but creamy and easy to apply. I used 2 coats for the photos below.
 |
| Shade |
Man Hunt is a navy creme! The first thing I thought when I saw this was that it was a dupe for Ride The Waves from the Summer Neons Collection. Good news, it's not. It's darker and more opaque. Until I grabbed my bottle of Ride The Waves from my Helmer I was like "why would China Glaze dupe themselves already" haha. The formula was okay on this one, it was a little thin for my liking but that's just personal preference. I used 2 coats for the photos below.
 |
| Shade |
Prey Tell is a vampy dark burgundy red. This one is very very dark, one of those so dark it looks black kind of shades. You can see the burgundy peeking out around my cuticle area and where the polish went on a bit patchy. I really loved the finish on this one, it was so shiny without top coat! The formula left a bit to be desired...I don't know why I had issues with it since it wasn't overly thick or overly thin. It was a bit patchy and I had issues with dragging. If you get this it would be best to wait a few minutes between coats. I used 2 coats for the photos below.
 |
| Shade |
Purr-fect Plum is a dark berry creme. I do like this one but I feel like I probably already have something close to it :( The formula was really nice, I used 2 coats for the photos below.

Overall, I do really like this collection...maybe not as much as I thought I would but overall I enjoy the variety of colors and it feels very fall to me. My picks are I'm Not Lion, I Herd That and Exotic Encounters. Most of the other polishes don't feel super unique to me but if you are just starting out or don't have a large stash they would be nice additions to a collection.
As far as availability goes I *think* this is a July release for China Glaze but don't quote me on that. Since no official info has been release from China Glaze as I type this I really have no how accurate that is! I did however see
Nail Polish Canada tweet yesterday that they were getting their shipment of this collection today so if you don't want to wait I'd go get them there!

ReplyDeleteWow, I can't believe they're almost being released. Time flies :D I really like these shades!
ReplyDeleteI'm going to have to get myself a bottle of Prey Tell, it's gorgeous! A nice vampy, bloody red. Perfect. :D
ReplyDeletedesert sun and calahari kiss are calling my name!
ReplyDeleteNothing special....
ReplyDeletewonder if man hunt stains...
ReplyDeletex
crys
I am loving that yellow, Kalahari Kiss...I need that one! And the glitter ones are a no brainer. They automatically just get purchased when I see them...no need to go on a wist list. : )
ReplyDeletewow. I actually LOVE these colors.
ReplyDeleteI'm a sucker for grays...so I'm happy to see Elephant Walk. So pretty! But the teal has got to be my favorite!
ReplyDeleteI agree, I was very excited for this collection but only love 2-3 of them. I must be getting too many fall colors in my stash. Would love to see a comparison of the glitters to the Ulta holiday exclusives.
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to get my hands on 'desert-sun' x
ReplyDeleteThey are all pretty - but nothing really stands out as a "must have". Perhaps the Paradoxal dupe - but I have the Revlon dupe of that and I don't really wear it much. Perr-fect Plum is a "maybe" too:) Thanks for the beautiful swatches!
ReplyDeleteIs Desert Sun a dupe for Nubar's Toasted Marshmellow?
ReplyDeleteI really like the two glitters, but think I might pass on the rest.
ReplyDeleteColor wise the glitters are not close, probably won't be comparing them (I just don't have time) sorry!
ReplyDeleteI feel like Man Hunt is a dupe to Revlon Royal. And I have a teal Color Club polish that I'm pretty sure is very similar to Exotic Encounters. I think it might be called Gossip Column, but I don't have the polish with me to check at the moment. Most swatches you see of that look pretty blue, but my Color Club bottle may have been old when I bought it...maybe that's why it looks more teal? ANYWAY, nice swatches as always! My favorites are the two glitters. :)
ReplyDeletei heart the glitters so much from the collection & Exotic Encounter .. like you said..there is just something about that polish lol
ReplyDeleteIt didn't stain on me :)
ReplyDeleteHow close is Man Hunt to Essie's Mesmerize?? It's so gorgeous, but I'd love to avoid having too many dupes!!
ReplyDeleteTime to get those Ulta-esque glitters on my hands, FAVORITE glitters in life!!
ReplyDeleteI don't own Mesmerize...not sure how they compare, sorry!
ReplyDeleteI want I want I want! LOL
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! We have an unseasonably cool morning here in Central Illinois, which really puts me in the mood for this collection.
ReplyDeleteI want both glitter polishes!
ReplyDeleteJungle Queen and Elephant Walk kind of interest me...but like the 2011 China Glaze fall collection - these are leaving me very flat - I have shades like these already, or they are ones I just don't like at all like Kalahari Kiss - not many could wear that shade. HUGE disappointment I would say in my book. I won't be getting even one of 'em. Will wait and see what Zoya fall looks like.
ReplyDeletenot close at all Elambie. This is a true navy cream. Mesmerize is lighter than Man Hunt and not as navy. Mesmerize leans more to a Wedgewood blue.
ReplyDeleteGreat swatches. I have been lusting over this collection since the first breaths of it hit the airwaves, a while back. Must. Have. Them. All! Even the brown ones. I am beginning to soften slightly towards brown. lol Time to ask my gal at Sally's to set this collection aside for me when it comes in.
ReplyDeleteI can smell my debit card smoking as I type this. :D
I like! XoXo
ReplyDeleteThese look great!
ReplyDeleteSweet post chica, thanks!
ReplyDeleteI had been waiting for these since January when I first saw the pictures!! Love the collection so much!! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteHey!
ReplyDeleteYour swatches always leave a feeling of ' I want these...' and although I've liked the collection I think I'd cut at least 3 colors out of it (the reds and wine ones)....
Would you say that Exotic Encounters is similar to Dior Nirvana and Kalahari Kiss to Mac In the Buff (both are really among my loved ones)?
xxx
Patricia
I heard that the darker cremes stained in this collection, like Exotic Encounters and Man Hunt...did you have any problems with that?
ReplyDeleteI love Exotic Encounters! Jungle Queen also reminds me of Zoya Neeka.
ReplyDeleteI didn't have staining with either one but I doubled up on base coat for both of them just in case :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Patricia!
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately I don't own the Dior or the Mac you mentioned so I'm not sure if they are close or not. Wish I could be more helpful :(
xo,
Jen
Probably definitely getting I'm Not Lion and Jungle Queen. I like Elephant Walk but it's reminding me too much of Pelican gray from the anchors collection and Khalari Kiss is giving me Butter London Bumster vibes. I'll likely hold out for some more comparison shots for those two.
ReplyDeleteI like the teal, the berry, and I'm Not Lion...cute story about that one, which I'll have to buy - one of the first cards I ever got my fiancé had a lion on the front and it said "I love you", then inside it said "and I'm not lion!" hehehe! It was something we said for a long time after that. :)
ReplyDeleteKalahari kill looks really nice, a few others look good too. Not a bad fall collection at all
ReplyDeleteTo be honest, I'm a bit dissapointed.. I was really looking forward to this collection because of the first promopics. But now that i actually see it on the nail there isn't one color I desperately need. Al those sandy, browny colors do nothing for me. I do like Exotic Encounters, Jungle Queen and Purr-fect Plum, but it is not like I NEEED them if you know what I mean. Considering that my wishlist is like a mile long at the moment and my wallet isn't that deep, this will come at the very bottom of that list.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the swatches!! I'm not really attracted to any of them at all, it seems like such a bland & not-very-unique collection in general. The only one that seems a little interesting to me is Desert Sun!
ReplyDeleteEeek I've been dying to see some swatches of On Safari. I'm giddy right now. But as you say, I didn't like it as much as I thought I would. But Desert Sun is a must have! Thanks for swatches.
ReplyDeleteStill not sure about this collection, but Desert Sun reminds me of OPI Ginger Bells.
ReplyDeleteI think Ginger Bells is darker and more orange but I need to find that bottle of polish and check!
ReplyDeleteUgh, this is, like, all the things I love in one collection. I just love "dirty" looking colors.
ReplyDeleteHoly crap I am obsessing over Kalahari Kiss!
ReplyDeleteThis collection and the summer neons are available on 8ty8beauty.com! Available starting today I think. :)
ReplyDeleteI admit, I didn't think much of the collection when I heard about it either. Buuuut, after looking at your swatches, I really like some of them!
ReplyDeleteThank you for your beautiful swatches--I'm now seriously lemming Elephant Walk, Exotic Encounters, I Herd That and I'm Not Lion!
ReplyDeleteShoot! I am really loving this collection. So many tasty-looking colors... Maybe I'm just hungry. :D Lol
ReplyDeleteI was so excited about this collection ever since I saw it coming on e-tailers. Now that it's here it's kind of underwhelming except for that green..
ReplyDeleteI'm liking Kalahari Kiss. The glitters will probably grab me in person.
ReplyDeleteI favor fall colors too and I live in Chicago where it is cold nine months out of the year! Desert Sun, I Herd That and I'm Not Lion are my faves. Can't wait to pick these up!
ReplyDeleteI'm so excited for this collection! Thanks for posting!
ReplyDeleteGAHHHHHH!!!! I was doing so good, why did you post this?!!!!!!!! Now I need like 12 more polishes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteIs kalahari kiss similar to Nubar Yellow Primrose?
ReplyDeleteEver since i saw posts of this collection, i was so hoping for it not to be the fall one...and i was right, not a single one that drives me crazy, first time with China Glaze...well it should happen sooner or later..now looking forward to their holiday 2012, i saw lots of reds and a bright blue.
ReplyDeleteI like Exotic Encounters. Is it a dupe of Essie's Go Overboard though?
ReplyDeleteI agree with liking fall colours as living on the equator means it's summer the whole year long.
oOOOH, I love Fall collections the most too and especially ChG Fall collections. These are gorgeous! I already know I'm gonna need Desert Sun, Elephant Walk, I Herd That (lol at the name!), and Kalahari Kiss. Maybe a few more, I always end up with more that I initially set my mind on. :P
ReplyDeleteWe have the same favorites! :D I swooned over the particularly gorgeous shade of Exotic Encounters. There really is something about it that's drool worthy! I'm Not Lion and I Herd That were love at first sight! And to hear they are like the Ulta Holiday Exclusives?!?? OMG!!!
ReplyDeleteI'm Not Lion, I Herd That, and Exotic Encounters are must haves for me. I'll have to see the rest of the collection in person to decide if I really want any of the other colors. Thank you so much for the lovely swatches and awesome review! :D
im super excited to see this post! i saw the collection online and was wondering when swatches would be up! would you say purr-fect plum is more "berry" than opi's pamplona purple?
ReplyDeleteWow swatches really do help make a change of hear and mind, I saw the promo pics and I swear I wanted to get at least three shades from this collection but now...not so much. These really dont excite me and I feel like I could find six of those shades in stores right now. Hmmm well if promo pics and swatch pictures didnt do it for me then theres only one thing to do...go to the store and look at the bottles for myself. sigh...anyway Thank You so Much for swatching these for us!
ReplyDeleteThey've already hit the UK - I got mine two weeks back. I swatched them on a dull grey day and it's clear to see what a difference the sun makes in the pics.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the swatches , I do NEED all of the colors except the glitters great collection of fall colors.
ReplyDeleteI think those might actually be close! I'll have a comparison post up next week and include that!
ReplyDeletemine too...I hope China Glaze keeps putting ones like them out!
ReplyDeleteI'll have a comparison post up sometime next week with both that you mentioned :)
ReplyDeleteawesome, thanks for the info!
ReplyDeleteI bet they will, glitter photos never do justice to how great they are in real life!
ReplyDeleteNubar is a white based pastel yellow. Kalahari Kiss is much darker and more of dijon mustard kind of color (for lack of a better way of describing it right now lol)
ReplyDeletenope, it's much more green than Go Overboard
ReplyDeleteI was loling at I Herd That also. Some of the names in this collection are awesome haha
ReplyDeletethank you!
ReplyDeleteI think Purr-fect Plum is definitely more berry. Pamplona Purple pulls a lot more purple on me than Purr-fect Plum does!
ReplyDeleteI am not sure how I feel about this collection. It didn't live up to my expectations I had based on the press release I guess...
ReplyDeleteCool. Or maybe OPI & Apple Pie? They're both in the same color vein, at least from the swatches I've seen, since I don't own it.
ReplyDeleteOooh I want I Herd That & I'm Not Lion so much. Also, Call of the Wild looks like Hershey's Syrup and makes me hungry.
ReplyDeleteWould you say Exotic Encounters is different enough from Essie's School of Hard Rocks? I need to justify having this gorgeous green! :)
ReplyDeleteI want "Elephant walk" and "Exotic Encounter" in my life :)
ReplyDeleteI'M only interested on Man Hunt. Transdesign has them in stock as well:)
ReplyDeleteExcellent collection!
ReplyDeleteVery nice colors
I'm getting
Desert sun
Exotic encounters
Kalahari kiss
And purr-fect plum
I can't wait ♥♡♥♡♥♡♥
:)
I love your blog :)
WANT the glitters!!!!!
ReplyDeleteYeah, what it is about Exotic Encounters? There is something different about it. Glancing at the thumbnail of your swatch, it looked like it had a subtle violet or maybe a pewter shimmer effect, but that must mean it's just a really deep and nuanced creme. I love it!
ReplyDeleteI am so excited about this collection! I've already started bugging my local place about it, but I didn't realise it wasn't coming until fall. Exotic Encounters (teal) and Kalahari Kiss (banana creme) desperately need to come home with me. ;)
ReplyDeleteLove your swatches! I may have to get the whole collection. The colors are gorgeous and I'm actually loving all of them. Some more than others but still, all the colors are beautiful
ReplyDeleteI don't think I like any of these. I really wish capital colors would have been their fall collection.
ReplyDeletegreat swatches...how does elephant walk compare to color clubs wild orchid? thanks :)
ReplyDeletegreat swatches...how does elephant walk compare to color clubs wild orchid? thanks :)
ReplyDeleteabsolutely in love with this collection!
ReplyDeleteJust ordered half of the collection. I'm so excited to get them in the mail!
ReplyDeleteMy "Elephant walk" is so much darker than yours... ;(
ReplyDeleteIt might be the settings on your monitor making it appear that way. :/
ReplyDeleteAt first I didn't like this collection.... But then I started thinking about wearing these colors in the fall when the leaves start to turn, with scarves and boots and hats... Sounds perfect :)
ReplyDeleteP.S. Thanks for the awesome swatches!!!
ReplyDeleteHi! Is exotic encounters a dupe for OPI Jade is the new black?
