China Glaze Summer 2012 Summer Neons Collection: My Picks!

Happy Weekend! Today I have some of the shades from the Summer Neons Collection from China Glaze to show you guys. I was really excited about these and thought I would buy the whole collection but then I saw them in person and was pretty underwhelmed by most of them :( I think maybe I'm neon-ed out lol! I do have 6 shades to show you from the collection, full swatches are after the jump!

To see swatches & reviews of each shade click the read more button below

Love's A Beach is a bright hot pink with a subtle pink shimmer. This reminds me a bit of Zoya Lola but the shimmer is different enough to justify owning both for me! The formula was okay-ish, it was thick but I didn't have too many issues applying it. It is one I will thin before I wear it again. I used 2 coats for the photos below, this dried satin matte so the photos are shown with top coat!

Pink Plumeria is a light dusty pink with a golden shimmer. This one I didn't love from swatches I'd seen but one I saw it in person I was like be still my heart and had to buy it. For some reason the shimmer is looking silver in my sun photos but you can see the more golden tone to it in the shade photo! The formula again, was pretty thick :/ I used 2 coats and top coat for the photos below.

Shade

Ride The Waves is a blue jelly!  I love the color but man the formula was not good on my bottle...thick and goopy. I ended up thinning mine because it was too much of a pain the first time around. I used 3 coats for the photos below, it dried a little dull so I used top coat also for the photos. The visible nail line was not noticeable in person even though you can see it in my sun photos, gotta love the macro on my camera!

Shade

Sun-Kissed is a shimmery neon yellow. Whoa. I swear I almost blinded myself when I opened these photos on my computer to crop & watermark them haha! I'm actually wearing this right now toned down with some white, it's so pretty! The formula, no bueno. By far the thickest out of these 6 polishes. I had to thin this a lot to be able to apply it nicely the second time I wore it. However, it was very opaque so I can forgive the formula. I did not need white undies with this to make it pop or go on without being streaky. I used 2 coats + top coat for the photos below.

Shade

Surfin' For Boys is a red leaning coral with a pink/blue shimmer. This was another surprise for me, it's not one that I thought I would like but I changed my mind when I saw it in person. The formula again was thick :( I used 2 coats + top coat for the photos below. I gotta say, the sun photos do no justice to how bright this was in person, I had to squint to look at my nails while taking photos!

Shade

Under The Boardwalk is a dark fuschia pink. This is probably not the most unique shade but I do love the color and it's next on my pedicure list! The formula was surprisingly, really great on this one...not overly thick like the rest of them but not thin either...just right. Goldilocks would approve haha. I used 2 coats + top coat for the photos below.

Edited to add: It looks like there are 2 versions of this polish. The more pink/fuschia version below and a magenta/purple version. You can see swatches of the purple version here.

Shade
Overall, I do like the polishes but the formula left a lot to be desired. When I get a bunch of polishes from a collection I don't expect that I'll need to thin all but 1 on the first or second time using them. I do think they are worth the effort, if you like neons you will love this collection. The other 6 that I didn't get were great too, lord knows I'll probably go back for them eventually!

The China Glaze Summer Neons Collection is available now both online and in stores!

  5. My under the board walk does not look like that :( mines dark purple.

  6. I really want an opaque yellow, so I might still have to get sun kissed.... so NEON!

  7. OMG! The yellow is absolutely amazing! I'm going to see if they have it on the UK amazon and order it next week. I'm actually inlove with the brightness :). With that said the rest are lovely too! xxx

  8. Thank you for these swatches, they look pretty on you.  I saw these in person yesterday, and I was a little surprised that they weren't more neon.  I compared these to the new Orly neons, and I ended up buying the Orly.  I do like that CG tried to mix up the usual neon with some shimmer in these.

  9. I love these but having to fix all those polishes would seriously piss me off!

  10. Great picks! I got 10 of the 12 shades and I love them all. Yes, they are all pretty thick but I love that they're non-streaky and I prefer those over the Poolside Neons from China Glaze!

  11. i have 4 of the colors you got and i had no application issues. maybe you got a weird batch? i thought they were so easy to apply unlike some neons that tend to go on streaky at first. your pictures are gorgeous!

  12. My Surfin' for Boys is much more neon-looking than yours! O.o I love it :)

  13. I mentioned in the post that it is much brighter in real life...

    ReplyDelete
  14. That would be my luck though pretty much every review I've seen has mentioned how thick they are. Maybe I just got an exceptionally bad batch lol I do like how not streaky they are though, that is a nice change from the normal neon

  15. I love that too, I was surprised how opaque and non streaky they were!

  16. I love Pink Plumeria and Ride The Waves. I totally wish I could have this in my collection.

  17. That's so strange about your formulas being thick.... mine weren't thick at all! Ride The Waves was actually quite thin! I love this collection... I bought all of them and I don't regret it, lol.

  18. omg i love all of them! im ordering the whole entire set of 12 come next friday! i found the whole set for only $48 (including shipping)

  19. OH wow I totally dig the pinks and the coral one!!! :D

  20.  I'm really puzzled!  My Under the Boardwalk looks like a much more obvious purple, not really a fuchsia, than your swatches.  I toyed with it some today and it was also pretty decidedly purple on my nails.  I actually like the colors in your swatches much better!  Either way, these are gorgeous!  You got a couple I wanted, but I had to get my coupon and when I came back they were gone. :(

    ReplyDelete
  21. wow, really? Mine isn't purple at all!

    ReplyDelete
  22.  So odd, right?  I took a peek on the China Glaze website and it's pretty purple, there.  I wish I had your formula, haha!  If I can get with it a bit better, I seem to be having a bad polishing day, I'll take a picture to show you mine. ♥

    ReplyDelete
  23. I love Ride the Waves, its my favorite.  My pictures came out brighter though...  The formula was weird for a jelly, I agree.  Great post.

    ReplyDelete
  24. how odd. Maybe I got a mislabeled bottle or something, next time I'm at Sally's I need to see what their bottles of that color look like

    ReplyDelete
  25.  I'd love to hear what you find out!  Mainly so I can snatch up a bottle of whatever it is, haha. :)

  26. I have several from this collection and have found that only Hang Ten-Toes really has a great formula - the rest are just...ugh. blobby and thick and yuck. I had trouble with Sun-Kissed and Orange You Hot, but I'm With the Lifeguard wasn't too bad. My Ride the Waves is a goop-fest too. Disappointed :(

  27. Agree with you - I did not mail order these from Sally's - I waited until they got into the stores and I could see them and put a dot on their scotch tape dispenser to test the shade as well as coverage (or non)...I was ??? on this collection from the start just knowing there were 12 of them. I really don't need that many neons or super brights added into my collection. I really still love a # of the older China Glaze neons and they are easy to get as they are part of the classic wall. I also found Ride the Waves was like glue...and left it at the store. I know I have 2 other blue jellies. The shimmer in some of this collection is interesting but hardly shows up other than to me. The Orange You Hot is down right ugly in my book considering we have soooo many pretty oranges and peaches out now. I agree with Mary here - my Under the Boardwalk is a whole lot more purple than your swatches are showing here. It's a tad redish purple. I wants to like that one best but alas it's going to have a new home soon as I will trade it away. These are going like hot cakes however off the display at the 2 Sally's that are within 60 miles of my home. If you want them, don't wait for any coupon or you will end up having to pick em up on Evil Bay or wait a year and see if CG ends up putting some of this group into their classics wall.

  28.  Mine is very purple too Mary vs. fuchsia. I am looking at other on line swatches and seeing shade for that one similar to my bottle - so wondering if there is an issue with manufacturing that shade resulting in 2 versions of it out there - certainly would not be the first time we have seen that happen!

  29. These colors are so bright ^^
Did you know that your stashlist says that you have 2044 bottles of nail polish?
And one bottle weighs about 50 grams, so that would mean that you have over 100 kilos of nail polish (bottles) lol ^^

  30. Sun-Kissed looks freaking amazing! I love how bright it is.

I got one of their neon polishes-- Flirt or something? -- and I have had the WORST problem with it chipping/peeling off! I never have with any other China Glaze polishes. How bizarre?! I tried it with a topcoat  (Seche Vite and Opi, niether helped) with a basecoat etc.etc. Has anyone else encountered this? I really love the color but I want it to STAY haha!

    ReplyDelete
  32. Man I wish you had posted these yesterday! Lol. I was between Sun-Kissed and Orly Glowstick, and went with Glowstick, which is suuuper thin, as you know. Oh well, it's blinding my retinas, so I like it! :)

    ReplyDelete
  33. I've posted some of my own swatches of Boardwalk on my blog now, if you were interested in seeing.  In the sun it's much less "perfectly purple" and more magenta/fuchsia, but it's still a different shade, I believe.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Wow that's strange! The 3 colours I received had really easy to use formulas on them! Great colours!

    ReplyDelete
  35. you are right about the color. I went to Sallys and picked up another bottle. The one in my post is either faded or mislabeled. I'll hopefully have a post up tomorrow of the "correct" version!

    ReplyDelete
  36. aww :( If it makes you feel better I prefer Glowstick over Sun Kissed! It's more eye searing!

    ReplyDelete
  37. Either way, it's a gorgeous shade!  I think in an odd way, you lucked out a bit there. :)

    ReplyDelete
  38. lol I think so too, I like the incorrect color my first bottle is

    ReplyDelete
  39. How much does Surfin' for Boys resemble ncLA's I'm with the Band?  (and for that matter, does Under the Boardwalk look like Hello I Love You?)  Thanks for all of the great swatches!  :D

    ReplyDelete
  40. Pretty sure you got a bad batch, because I own Surfin' for Boys, Pink Plumeria and Sun-kissed and the formula is GREAT on all of them! I have Surfin' for Boys on my toes and Pink Plumeria on my nails right now.  Love them!!

  41. I love the color, but I had a horrible time applying it! I have patchy bald spots on my left hand, even with putting white underneath. Oh well! It's so bright, someone would go blind before getting close enough to notice the bald spots. Lol.

  42. I ended up getting I'm With The Lifeguard and Sun-Kissed...so far.  ;)  I keep debating whether I should get more colors or not.  They are really fun colors and I love the shades with the shimmer finish but I keep wondering...  How well does the shimmer translates to the nail?  Is it shimmer 24/7 in every kind of lighting or does it only show in the sun/bright lighting?  I feel like I bought the two colors with the most pronounced shimmer so...I'm not sure how shimmery some of the others may be on the nail in real life.  I really thought I would spazz and buy this entire collection but I didn't for some reason (yet), lol.

I am definitely lemming Pink Plumeria!  (Your swatch confirmed it!)  It hasn't been in any of the displays I've come across though.  :/  I have a feeling I'll have a SWOON moment when I find it, lol.  It just looks so darn pretty!  <3  Thanks for the gorgeous swatches and awesome review!  <3

  43. My favorite is Pink Plumeria :)

  44. I had the same issue with Sun-Kissed! The colour was great but it was the worst to apply.  I'm glad I'm not the only one.

if you want this yellow without paying the CG price, get Sinful Colors in Neon Yellow at Walgreens or Target for $1.99!

  46. I love all the colors they are so fun and new and fresh!!! Buying all of them. The shimmers are so light so its not like a glitter bomb but still you can see them.

  47. I love the entire collection
