Orly Flash Glam FX Collection Swatches

Happy Wednesday! Today I have another collection post for you! Orly recently announced that they were coming out with 22 glitters as part of their Flash Glam FX Collection. The first 5 of those 22 glitters started popping up in stores and of course, I had to buy them all because I love glitter! I kind of feel like Orly has been paying attention to trends and maybe all the indie stuff that has been coming out these past few months. These definitely feel like something we'd see from an indie seller!

To see swatches & reviews of each shade click the read more button below!

Be Brave is magenta/purple & holographic bar glitter in a clear base. If you don't like bar glitter you'll really hate this one haha! I used to loathe the hairy glitter but I finally came around and now I quite like it. The glitter in this was nice, I didn't have any issues with it not wanting to lay flat on the nail! I used 1 coat over Essie Off The Shoulder for the photos below.

Can't Be Tamed is purple hex glitter and small silver glitter in a clear base. When I first found these at Sally Beauty Supply I passed on this one because all the purple glitter looked like it was taco glitter (aka glitter that is curled and won't lay flat on the nail). I finally talked myself into this by telling myself that if it was taco glitter at least I could let you guys know...clearly I can justify any purchase haha! Good news, once I put this on I noticed all the glitter laying flat...I guess it must just be my eyes playing tricks on me when I look at the bottle. I used 1 coat of Can't Be Tamed over Dermelect Luxurious for the photos below.

Shade

Mermaid Tale is blue and green glitter in a clear base. Out of these 5 glitters I think this one is the most interesting mix of glitter. The blue and green mesh really well together! The glitter pay off with this one was also pretty awesome, the polish was thick because of it but I don't mind that. I used 1 coat over Essie Mojito Madness for the photos below.

Also below is Mermaid Tale on a nail wheel by itself and over black so you can see the colors of the glitter better. While I love my combo it didn't translate well in pictures for being able to see the different colors of glitter.

Shade

Shade

Sashay My Way is holographic gold hex glitter and gold bar glitter in a clear base. I am kind of surprised by how much I like this one. I'm not usually a fan of gold but I really enjoy this one! I used 1 coat over Essie All Tied Up for the photos below. I wish this combo translated better in photos, it was so pretty in person lol!

Shade

Spazmatic is a bright blue hex glitter and small blue shimmer in a clear base. This my favorite of the collection, mostly because of the funny name but the glitter is also awesome. It sounds like a word I would make up. My favorite part of this polish is actually the small blue shimmer, it was unexpected and gorgeous in real life. Next time I wear this I'll be putting it over black, I'm pretty sure that shimmer over black will be even better! I used 1 coat of Spazmatic over Essie Cascade Cool for the photos below.

Shade
These first 5 shades of the Flash Glam FX Collection are available now, I picked mine up at Sally Beauty Supply if memory serves me right the sign said they were $8.99 each but I with my beauty club card they were $5.99 each. I've seen other people say they have found these at Ulta, I went to 2 Ulta this past weekend and they weren't out yet so I'm not sure how much they are retailing for there.

  1. Be Brave seems to be a nicer version of Ciates Jewel :)

  2. Milani has almost an exact polish for Mermaid Tail and Its actually named that as well...they have polishes all for the glitter ones just not Can't Be Tamed. These are nice but I might go for Milani's polishes instead. Thanks for the swatches! =)

Pretty! I especially want Sashay My Way since it has my name (Sasha) in it! Growing up some people actually called me Sashay.

  6. Omg I am so excited for this. I want them all. I HATE bar glitter and I HATE gold but I desperately NEEEEEEEEDDD Sashay My Way! LOL!

  7. I can't wait to get my hands on these. They looked great in full coverage swatches but your layering choices are even better!

  8. I saw the photos before the title of this post and my first thought was "Oooh indie glitter goodness!" I was so surprised to see that they're actually by Orly. I think you're right and they're definitely paying attention to what their consumers actually want and not just blithely doing their own thing. Also, I want Spazmatic SO MUCH.

  9. Love Mermaids Tale that most, but Spazmatic is pretty cool too! Nice swatches :)

I love the combo you did with Mermaid Tale! It's really the only one I'm considering from this collection :)

  11. OMG, my favorite is the purple one!!!!

  12. Are the glitters in these dense enough to ever cover the nail? or will they always be 'some glitter in a clear base' ? (Love both effects, just wondering which applies here)

  13. I believe I saw them at Ulta for like 9.99 or 10.99....glad I got mine for less than half of that at Sally's!

  14.  I just picked up Spazmatic and Mermaid Tale last night at ULTA. If I recall correctly, they rang up at $10 each. :-P  But I'm in love with them so it's ok.

  15. First off, 22 NEW GLITTERS OHMYGAWSH! Second, I'm glad to know the purple glitter is not funky shaped; I originally passed on it too but then went back for it. I have yet to wear it, though. Good to know!

  16. Thanks for the post…I've been waiting to see swatches of these.  I like the turquoise and the gold.  How many more are there??

  17. Be Brave is the only that jumped at me but I haven't tried it yet. My Ulta is selling them for $10 a piece but I got it for about $3.50 at Sallys.

  18. Mermaid Tale is ok, I don't really care for the rest...honestly, I don't understand the obsession with all these super chunky indie glitter polishes...they look to me line a preschool art project puked on nails! I'd much rather see some nice multichrones or mattes or something

  19. While I don't think I'll be buying any yet, I do love that they're going this route- you're right, they must be taking a cue from the indie glitter bomb explosion :)  I hope more brands come out with neat mixes!

  20. They are $6.49 at sally's...

  21. My Ulta had them - which was surprising, because they're always soooooooooo late to the polish party - all but Mermaid Tale were in stock.

  22.  thanks! ♥

  23.  I think you could probably get all except for Be Brave to be full coverage with a few coats if you wanted to!

    ReplyDelete
  24.  Hopefully yours is normal too, I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought it looked weird in the bottle!

    ReplyDelete
  25.  There are 22 in total!

    ReplyDelete
  26.  WOW and here I thought getting them for $5.99 was a deal lol!

  27. Great swatches- thanks!  It's nice to see what they look like over color... I saw them at Ulta (and they're $10 freaking dollars each there!) yesterday and they are VERY tempting in the bottles!  But then to get them to be solid on their own you'd need at least 3 coats!  I bought Spazmatic and plan to layer it over OPI Swimsuit nailed it.  But glad to know they're cheaper at Sally's... I couldn't remember where I bought Orly cheaper but knew I never paid that much before LOL.  (the regular polishes are $8 each at Ulta!)
Oh and I think Spazmatic would look really cool over the neon blue Skinny Dip- bought that too and didn't plan on them together, but now that I have it on my nails I got the idea...

    ReplyDelete
  28. My Ulta too!  Their Orly is always really expensive (which I forgot about until I checked my recipet wondering how I spent so much LOL)

    ReplyDelete
  29. I used to have these bar glitter polishes when i was little, i'm happy that they come back

    ReplyDelete
  30. I love Mermaid Tale! x

    ReplyDelete
  31. I think I need Spazmatic just for the name!

    ReplyDelete
  32. Love Spazmatic and Mermaid Tale! Props to Orly for giving us nail polish addicts the kind of stuff we like!

    ReplyDelete
  33. I love Can't be Tamed.  Love lilac, lavender, purple, eggplant, etc. I guess I was royalty in  former life. ;

    ReplyDelete
  34. Ulta had them when I went there today. They were going for $10. Sally had them for cheaper, but ulta had the better selection

  35. Love the purple glitter and the gold glitter looks here!  :D

Your taco glitter remark reminded me of American Apparel's Galaxy Glitter.  In the bottle all of the sparkles look majority curved, but they did lie flat and added to the unique sparkle.  :)

  36. I 100% agree that Spazmatic will look gorge over black. All that blue shimmer. Yum!

  37. I can see what Orly is trying to do but they are still losing to indie brands in a major way.  The most complex glitter here is Mermaid Tail the rest are kinda...plain.  I'm really not trying to being mean I'm just saying compared to Lynns, Nailadventurous, Dollish Polish, and many more these lack the punch I'm looking for in my glitters these days.  Although that said I wonder how some of these would look layered with each other especially because Sashay My Way looks like it would work well with many polishes.

    ReplyDelete
  38. While I love looking at indie swatches, I unfortunately don't have the patience to hunt them down, lol.  These may fill that need, especially Mermaid Tail.

    ReplyDelete
  39. They had to go and name one of their polishes after mermaids. Gonna have to check this out now! Thanks for the awesome swatches!

    ReplyDelete
  40. If they do, I wonder if they'll change the name of the last one.

    ReplyDelete
  41.  I don't have a Sally's near me, otherwise I would have gone there instead. :(

    ReplyDelete
  42. Oh my gosh, you're so right about these looking like the kinds of glitters coming from indie sellers! I want all of these! I can't wait to see the rest of the collection! Thanks for sharing these pics! :D

    ReplyDelete
  43. I was in Sally's the other day and passed these up...and, as always, your swatches made me seriously regret that decision. They are very reminiscent of the indie polishes I'm less inclined to try and fight for. (They aren't as good...but they will fill the need!)

    ReplyDelete
  44. I bought these at my ULTA (Tustin, CA) this afternoon for $10 each. Ouch! But worth it! I can't wait to layer them over some bright colors all summer long!!

  45. I like bar glitter and how it looks - but I HATE most glitters on me now days - it's looking dated and/or too teen for me.  While it makes a mani last longer, I get soooo board with the look I want it off my nails/toes after 1 day - for me that's just not worth the $ nor the time involved to take a glitter off. I am more than ready for different finishes other than glitter collections from polish lines. As far as what Tamira says that these are not complex - maybe for me, that's the ONLY thing I like about these glitters as I don't want a ton of 'stuff' sitting on my nail from a glitter bottle. I am sick of seeing and feeling curled up parts from chunky polishes with all sorts of shapes.

  46. Although I'm not a huge fan of glitter, I can appreciate what Orly is trying to do here: not everyone has the time or patience to track down indie brands (I got my hands on Cover Band's Sticks and Stones through pure luck for example) and this at least gives people an option, even if they aren't quite as complex as what some are coming out with.

    ReplyDelete
  47. I had the exact same thoughts with Can't be Tamed! But I bought it anyway cause i'm a sucker for purple and thank goodness it all lays flat! Such a pretty polish!

    ReplyDelete
  48. Pls tell me something, are this only for teens?

    ReplyDelete
  49. Sashay My Way looks amazing over Orly's Liquid Vinyl (black). I have Be Brave but it looks so much better than in the photos here with the way the glitter changes colors. Orly polishes were buy 2 get 1 free at Ulta in July.
