Skin Food Swatches

Hi guys! Today I have some swatches from a brand called Skin Food to show you! Skin Food is a Korean brand that I've heard of on other blogs but I didn't know was available in the states. I was shopping a couple weeks ago and came across the store while trying to find Claire's. At first I almost didn't go in because I didn't think it was going to be the Skin Food I had heard of. Obviously, curiosity got the best of me and I went in...the store was awesome! There was a ton of polishes along with makeup and skin care things! I'm still shocked I got out of there spending only $21 haha! As soon as I get paid I will be going back...my wallet is not happy about it!

To see swatches of each polish click the read more button below!

BR612 is a bronze-y gold foil. This is so not the kind of color I usually buy but something about it caught my eye in the store. I really love this one on, usually anything gold toned looks crappy on me but I think the darkness of this one makes it wearable for my skin tone! The formula was really nice, I used 2 coats for the photos below!

Shade

Shade

Crystal Pearl Topcoat is fine blue/purple and silver shimmer in a clear base. Nothing ground breaking here but OMG so pretty! I love polishes like this because you can put them over anything and it makes it amazing...like a nice glitter top coat that is a bazillion times easier to remove. I used 1 coat over Nails Inc Black Taxi for the photos below!

Shade

V1407 is a dark shimmery purple! This one reminds me a bit of some Zoya's I have (Jem & Valerie) I haven't compared them but they seem similar-ish going off memory. The formula on this was pretty much perfection, a little thick but I only needed 1 coat!

V1408 is a shimmery blue! It's just the blue version of the polish above, I need to go back and see if they have more versions of this because I'm kind of in love. This is my favorite of the 4 polishes I picked up...it's stunning in person! The formula was again, great! I used 1 coat for the photos below!

Saving the best for last...this isn't nail polish but it was by far the best thing I picked up at the Skin Food store. It's cuticle balm that smells like Coffee and Milk. I can't even tell you guys how delicious this smells...it smells good enough to eat! I've used mine quite a bit so below is the photo I posted of it on Instagram before I dug into it!

As far as availability goes this is an Asian brand (where it's sold in that region, I have no idea...sorry!) If you live in Orange County or LA there are 4 stores (Irvine, Cerritos, Valencia & West Covina) You can find the addresses on the Skin Food USA website here! I poked around the Skin Food website and while they have all their products listed it doesn't look like they sell online :(

These were only $3 a piece at the Skin Food store (the cuticle balm was $9). They also had a bunch of other polishes in different kinds of bottles that varied in price but none were more then $10!

If you aren't in LA/OC, I honestly have no clue where you can find these...your best bet is probably ebay. Hopefully Skin Food will keep opening stores up all over the place, it was a nice random surprise to find this while wandering around the Irvine Spectrum!

  6. I really like the blue shimmer!!! I have yet to find a color where I need only one coat. Sooo jealous. Was curious if you're gunna try the limecrime polishes?? I know there's all kinds of rumors, they just look so flippin bright. Neon pastel awesomeness. People are saying kleancolor does exact dupes, but alas I cant compare swatches bc I can't find any except on the limecrime website.....

  7. Great post! Skin Food continues to open stores around the world, but it's originally from Korea. It's pretty popular here in Japan, too. I just reviewed a bunch of their skin products on my blog. =) If you have them in the States, I really recommend you try their "Fruit Drink" nail collection. They're all jellies in bright juice colours! I love them! If you don't have them in stores (Japan's stores don't carry them. We just have the Nail Vita and the party tox (sp?) collections) you can buy them fairly cheap off Ebay. Highly recommend Raspberry Drink (bright red jelly) and Grapefruit Drink (a coral jelly).

  18. I have purchased SkinFood products on Amazon (from a sub-shop called Seoul Glamour), and my daughter has bought her stuff from prettyandcute.com (which has already imported the goodies to the US, so you get them quicker). We both use Skin Food Mushroom BB Cream and LOVE it. Will have to try the polish now :)

Wow! What a coincidence! Today I received my 2 Skin Food nail polishes and I was looking for more because this are great and I found you just posted it.
I bought *Purple stone* wich is a dark purple with blue & pink shimmer, very nice, and *Aqua green* wich is an aqua green LOL but is most greenish shade than aqua (also google images lie! because when I bought it online I thought it will be more like China Glaze For Audrey but actually is more like China Glaze Four leafe clover shade, but creamy not shimmer, and less brighter). I received them today so I put the aqua green on my finger toes and they look AMAZING! So quick dry formula and good finish.. soft finish like I was wearing a top coat and I only used 1 layer. Then I added one more to make it last.
I go for more of this cheap beauties!
    See you.
    Rachel.

  27. I heard that Skin Food contains Toluene.. I used to use Skin Food polishes a lot, but the toluene-inserted news made me stop. Btw, in most countries in Asia, Skin Food have their own store, and sometimes can also be find in some common cosmetics store or drugstore.

  28. I've never heard of this brand! Unfortunately I got used to this feeling, Italy is out of the majority of international polish world. Our restrictions are so strict that I'm amazed how we could even find italian polishes around here :-/ I'm not happy with my ciuntry gor so many reasons... :-X
Anyway, as a true blue addicted, I fell in love with the blue one. I've got tons of polishes like this, but they're never enough! I'll surf the net to find out more about this korean brand. Korean polishes, just like brazilian ones, seem to be great!

  29. I have 3 Skin Food polishes that I got when I was in the Philippines. I do love their colors. I wish they were more readily available here!

Okay, so in my search to find Skin Food Polish online I stumbled across a number of articles stating that Skin Food was actually in trouble with the Korean government for having benzene and methanol (both know carcinogens)as well as tolulene. The report was released back in 2010 so I don't know if this is still an issue but I thought I would give everyone a heads up. I love these colors a lot but I don't think I can buy them until I know for sure that they are safe to use.

  32. wow, that is interesting. I wonder if that is still true...I wonder if legally they would even be able to sell them in stores in the US if that was still an issue.

That's what I was thinking. I hope it's no longer true because I really want these polishes lol!

  34. I have a Skin Food shop in Chiang Mai, Thailand. Had no idea it was sold in the US as well. The polishes are very good for the price you pay. You made me want more of it just now when I came back to Europe to visit my family :-)

  35. I used to really love skin food polishes, but then I found out that they have all of the big-3s as well as camphor. I haven't come across any major Korean brand polishes that don't yet. If you're interested in checking out some Asian nail polish brands I'd recommend UNt from Taiwan and can make from Japan - both are big 3 free.

  36. Hi, I have the three polishes you mention here in this post, but not the top coat. I bought them from eBay and they are really good. I though you might like to know the names of the polishes to add to the post: VI408 Purple Stone , VI407 Puppy Purple and BR612 Cappuccino. If you go back to the store I would highly suggest you get yourself RE107 Red Stone and BR610 Rich Mocha because you are going to love them. I will be doing swatches of them soon in my blog I think because they are really great. Let me know if you are interested in seeing them, Thanks.
