Revlon Moon Candy Collection Swatches

Good morning! Today I have 4 Revlon polishes to share with you guys! Recently, Revlon came out with the Moon Candy Collection which consists of 8 creme & glitter duo's. These have been getting little bit of buzz because the glitter part was said to be flakies. In reality, the "flakies" are more like iridescent shards of glitter...more along the lines of OPI I Lily Love You or China Glaze Luxe & Lush instead of Essie Shine of The Times which is what I consider a real flakie to be. I ended up picking up 4 of the 8 duos thanks to an awesome sale at Rite Aid and some Up Rewards burning a hole in my wallet. Check out my swatches after the jump!

Galactic is a dark navy creme and iridescent flake glitter in a sheer blue base.  The creme side was nice, I used 1 coat for the photo below...it looks a little patchy but in person I couldn't see that. The glitter side was a bit of a disappointment here though, it was hard to get a good amount on the brush...you have to put the brush back in several times to get a decent amount of glitter onto the nail.

Orbit is a dark purple creme and iridescent flake glitter in a purple tinted base. The formula of the purple creme was really nice, I only needed 1 coat! The glitter was a lot like how it was in the pervious polish though. For some reason I also had major issues with this drying...aka, it never dried. Out of the 4 duos I picked up this was the only one that wouldn't dry on me, weird!

Apologies for the slightly glare-y photo of the purple creme below...it decided to get cloudy right when I was taking these photos :(

Supernova is a grey creme and iridescent flake glitter in a pink tinted base. I bought this one mostly because I'm a sucker for grey and pink together. I ended up giving this duo to my Mom but I do like it The grey creme had a nice formula...it was almost a 1 coater, I ended up using 2 coats. The glitter was the same as the previous polishes.

Universe is a brown creme and iridescent golden flakes of glitter. This was my favorite duo of the entire display and it's my favorite on the nail also. The brown creme was nice, I used 2 coats. The glitter side was like the others through :(

Overall I like these but I don't love them...I would have preferred real flakies but oh well. Out of these 4  my favorites are Galatic and Universe.

The Moon Candy Collection from Revlon is available now, I've seen it locally at both Rite Aid and Walgreens!

I love the grey with the peach flakes! :) That's my fav because it's a less common pair.

Neither Orbit nor Galactic would dry for me, and when they were dry to the touch, the glitter still dragged! I loved that they were one coaters and the colors are gorgeous... but next time I'm going to try a coat of Seche or Poshe in between the creme and glitters. So disappointing!

  9. Thanks for the review. When I read your tweet that you picked them up at Rite-aid I went out & did the very same thing but I stopped myself from buying multiples because I wasn't sold on them in person. I only bought Satellite

  14. I picked up a couple of these & had the same problem with the glittery bits. I was disappointed, but in all honesty I'll probably snatch up a few more because the end result is fun & I am weak!!

  15. how was the dry time for galactic?

  16. These are all pretty, but for some reason Supernova glitter looks fantastic over that grey creme!

  17. Love Supernova! I really like the look of the subtle light pink over the darker gray. Very pretty.

  18. The top coat is fantastic!

  19. I agree with this. I'll have to try a coat of seche between because the flakie is really pretty over the polish, but the whole experience was a disappointment.

  20. I saw these at RiteAid this weekend and I'm actually glad I didn't pick any of them up. They're pretty, but for the price vs. quantity, I'll pass.

  21. The flakies in orbit look really nice over a medium to dark teal/turquoise as well. Used them over China Glaze's Shower Together.

  22. I saw then at Ulta, they didn't do anything for me, but I do like your swatches of Supernova and Universe!

  23. I got the same ones as you did, almost! I got Galactic, Supernova, Orbit, and Moon Dust. When I saw the display I definitely did an, "Oooooooooo", lol! While I do wish they were *real* flakies, I still heart them. They're just so pretty!

Though I do agree about it being a bummer to have fish for flakes. :/ I was lucky enough to avoid the other bummer about these (the $7.99 price tag). I was lucky enough to get them during Rite AId's 40% off Revlon sale. Plus I had some coupons. :)
They look super pretty in your photos! Your photo of Supernova made me so happy that I got it! :D Beautiful!

  24. Very pretty, especially the grey! I'm just not a flakie fan...

  25. omg these are so awesome! i haven't seen these at my drugstore yet, I'll go look next time!!

  26. I'll search for them next time I'll visit the pharmacy :)

  27. I didn't have drying issues, but I did use almost HALF the flakie side of Galactic getting enough flakes to look like the photos on the display. It looks cool, but such a bummer I can only use it twice.

  28. I bought something almost exactly like this 2 years ago from GOSH - 546 rainbow (SuperDrug-England) & I have never had a problem with the amount of glitter from pot to brush.. And as I bought this nail glitter 2 years ago I have been able to use it plenty of time :)

  29. Thanks for the post!! :) I have 4 of these and I really like them. I don't mind that it takes work getting the flakies out because, I don't like alot of them on the nail anyway. I think they look prettier when they're sparse. The 2 things that I DON'T like though is the texture of the flakes .. they make my mani bumpy if I'm not careful with the placement and I HATE the bottle design. The top-heaviness of it when I'm painting makes it really awkward for me. :(

  30. WOW, really?? I think you might have gotten a used bottle or something. :(

  31. I love Galactic! Thanks for your blog, it was just a coincidence that I came on your blog.

  32. I picked up Galactic, Moon Dust and Milky Way last night. I tried Galactic last night. I did 2 coats of the creme colour and 3 coats of glitter. Then for fun I added a coat of the glitter from each of the other two I bought. Then I added a China Glaze fast-drying topcoat.

Surprisingly all 8 coats dried flawlessly. It looks so deeply opalescent. Just gorgeous! My problem with this polish is more in the packaging than the effect. It's awkward. The bottle is too small to hold while painting, and it feels weird to try to dip the brush in when the applicator is so heavy and the bottle you are dipping it into is so small and light. I almost spilled it a few times. I also don't love the brush... I wish it was a little more rounded for a cleaner application. The dark blue on Galactic is lovely, but very difficult to take off the skin. My Milky Way actually has a deffective brush... The tube that holds the bristles split, and there are 2 or 3 random bristles sticking out at a right angle. And of course I can't find my receipt.

I agree that Essie's Shine of the Times is better because of the uniformity of the flakies. I also love Zoya's "Opal". These ones are so irregularly shaped that they almost have to be placed on the nail. But I do love the effect. If Moon Candy had a higher glitter-to-polish ratio, more uniform glitter and better packaging I think they would be giving the high-end brands some serious competition!

  34. I just used my moon candy for the first time, and used about 1/4 of the bottle of glitter! Nice concept but wouldn't buy more...bottle is awkward, and too small.

  35. How did you get this coat on so smooth? just picked up all of these, and could NOT be more excited, but I have tried the top coat 3 times now, but it is just kind of lumpy and haggard looking. I put clear coat over and that did not help. tips?

  36. I used a couple coats of top coat, there was still texture but it wasn't too bad

I bought them and I think they suck

  38. I just bought this in Orbit the other night. The packaging lured me in, and I loved the idea of 2 coordinating polishes in one package. So far I'm not sold on this. I tested it out on a couple of nails, along with other new polishes. The consistency was different than other Revlon polishes that I've tried. It seemed more gooey, which like others have stated made it dry really slow. I wasn't impressed with the glitter either. I would only get a couple of flecks on the brush...and I like a lot of glitter so this was another con. I didn't like how it looked, and got tired of waiting to see how long it would dry, so I went with one of the other polishes I got.

  39. I just bought Orbit for the glitter shards and put it over black, a coat of Seche between color and glitter was helpful, and yeah, i kind of had to dab on the shards as opposed to paint them on, still pretty though.

  40. I bought the Galactic and the polish was so thick I couldn't even apply it. The texture part was ok but took forever to dry. I like the look but it's not worth the money/hassle.
