Orly Fall 2012 Electronica Collection Swatches!

Hi guys! Happy 4th of July to everyone in the US! Is anyone doing anything fun to celebrate? I'll probably just watch fireworks on TV. I'm actually not a huge fan of the 4th of July festivities, maybe I'm weird...fireworks stress me out. I'm always afraid some idiot in my neighborhood is going to set off the illegal kind and they are going to land on my roof and my house is going to go up in flames or something ridiculous like that ha!

Today I have Orly's Fall 2012 Electronica Collection to show you guys. I haven't heard too much about this so I was surprised when I saw it out at my supply store last week. It's kind of a random collection color wise, but there is a little something for everyone I suppose.

To see swatches & reviews of each shade click the read more button below!

Decoded is a medium grey creme. Nothing ground breaking here but I do love a good grey so I am a fan. The formula was a little on the thick side but it was easy to work with. I used 2 coats for the photos blow.

Shade

I was searching through my stashing thinking I had to have a dupe of this and couldn't come across one, unfortunately. The closest I could find was Zoya Kelly which is much darker. I'm still searching through my stash so maybe I'll find a dupe eventually! I used 2 coats of Decoded and Zoya Kelly for the photo below.

Preamp is a blue toned pink with an awesome golden flecks of shimmer. This is my favorite of the collection, I don't have anything quite like this in my stash! The shimmer wasn't in your face but you also didn't need direct sunlight to see it. In the shade and indoors it gives a beautiful depth to the polish! The formula was a tiny bit thick but easy to work with. I used 2 coats for the photos below.

Shade

Shockwave is a gorgeous blue creme. Not the most unique blue, I feel like we've seen a few this year that are similar. The formula was really nice on this one, not too thick or thin...just right! I used 2 coats for the photos below.

Shade

Below is Shockwave vs. China Glaze Man Hunt. In the bottles these looked like dupes but on the nail they are a touch different. Not sure if they are different enough to own both, I guess that depends on how much you like blue polish haha! I used 2 coats of each polish for the photo below.

Synchro is a rosy kind of mauve color with a strong blue shimmer. I'm sorry guys but I think this color is pretty ugly, it looks better in pictures than it does in real life. It's not quite as bad in the shade but it's just not for me. I need to try layering this or something, I think it might be prettier that way (hopefully!). The formula was okay, it was on the thick side and I had minor application issues but I think some thinner will help for next time. I used 3 coats for the photos below. I did have issues with this dragging so it would be best to wait a few minutes between coats.

I also wanted to mention, this one also took about a thousand years to dry on me. I did my manicure then went outside about 45 minutes later to take the photos below. When I was done taking photos I picked up Steve (the cat who has adopted our backyard as home, I'll put a picture of him below) and it totally messed up the mani. It was all dented and awful looking, usually for me 45 minutes is about 40 minutes longer than I need for a mani to be dry enough to not dent like that. :(

Shade
guys, meet Steve. He showed up in the backyard about a week and a half ago and I guess he lives here now...he hasn't left. No idea where he came from, we took him to the vet and he doesn't have a microchip. We're trying to re-home him since we can't bring him in the house.

After I wrote the above paragraph I went into the backyard to watch Steve attempt to catch birds. While I was sitting there I noticed that he has also now brought his brother to live in our backyard...I'm assuming it's his brother anyway since they are the same size and seem friendly. If you are in the Orange County area and want some nice cats let me know....they are kittens, probably about 6 months old or so, both are nice! (I'm serious, we can't keep them and I've already asked all my friends and co-workers haha)

The Orly Electronica Collection is available now, I've seen it out at my local Sally Beauty Supply already, price will vary depending on where you buy these!

  1. Aw, what a shame Steve doesn't have a micro chip, he looks like a sweet cat, i hope you find him and his brother a new home....
The swatches are nice as always, but slow dry time is so annoying, I do no own many Orly's and their dry time is the reason why...

  2. Yeah! I've been for some swatches of these. I saw these @ my beauty supply and picked up all expect synchro cuz it's not pretty :(
Btw.. Kinda of topic. I'm also in Orange County and I've found some O.P.I DS holo polish @ CVS. Just curious if you've found some others in your area? Thanks!!

  4. Orly confuses me with their lack of communication regarding new collections! I like these colors but it almost doesn't seem like they belong in a collection together.... But I'll probably buy the gray because I kind of love gray, too.

  7. Love Preamp! Hmm, Ulta has a good sale right now, and I have a 20% off loyalty coupon... and my 4th is being spent studying for an Algebra final on the 5th! Boo!

  8. Synchro is the one I think is interesting.

  10. Just wanted to say thanks for your blog posts. A fellow polishaholic myself, I always enjoy reading them not to mention you help me decide what to buy. Last but not least, thanks for looking after Steve while he awaits a new home. Going so far as to take him to the vet is a testament to what a nice person you are :)

  11. So "Synchro" is my favorite actually. And only when it's layered because I felt the same as you when I saw it on it's own in the bottle, and yet...I could not walk away from it in the store. I've layered it over both blue and red-violet bases now and it's (in my opinion) stunning. I'd be interested in seeing what you would layer it over and your better quality photos. :)

  12. I will have the cats, shame I am in the UK! I become cat obsessed!

  13. wish I could take those sweet kittehs off your hands, but alas... :/

my local Sally's seems to get everything early - they already have the Electronica collection out, YAY! :D the only one that caught my attention was Synchro (which is funny b/c that's the one you hated lol) but I <3 duochromes and the violet-blue flash was nice and strong, so I bought it on a whim (me impulse shop?? perish the thought! ), hoping that the strong duo would translate from bottle to tips, and I wasn't disappointed :) IMO Synchro is "office appropriate but not boring" - the duo flash saves it from fading into the background as just another "safe," ubiquitous rosy mauve. before I got it home I was actually worried that it might be a dupe for Zoya Lexi, but it's not. fwiw I really liked Synchro paired w/CG Prism, which played nicely off the violet-blue duo flash in Synchro. jmtc - ymmv ;)

  15. What a little cutie Steve is. I live in Florida and already have 6 of my own, so I can't take them on, but I sure hope they do find a nice, warm forever home! ^^ And Pre-amp looks more purple-y than pink to me. It's the only one I really like in this collection.

  16. I bought Decoded a week or so back and love it- I'm a sucker for grays. I liked Sychro when I saw it in the bottle and now I'm so glad I didn't buy it. Thanks for the great post.

  17. From your pic, he doesn't look like a stray to me. He looks too well fed & clean. Have you tried putting up flyers to see if he & his brother just wandered away from their home?

    ReplyDelete
  18. We've done that, thanks for the suggestion though

  19. I got Synchro as an extra on a swap so I'd love to hear layering ideas. I tried swatching it on a nailwheel over black and it looks much prettier, but there must be a better option out there!

  20. Awwh Steve is such a cutie! I wish I could take him, he looks similar to my orange tabby Dexter! But we live in a small apt and already have Dexter + his brother so we're full. If you can't find a home for them, I'd suggest reaching out to the Irvine Animal Care Center. They're a fantastic shelter here just off the 5 & Jeffrey, where we adopted our two from. They are no kill and have an excellent cat house. They keep all their animals until they find a home. So if for some reason he and his brother don't get adopted, they will be well taken care of for the rest of their lives. I hope they find a good home soon!

  22. Awwh Steve is such a cutie! He looks similar to my orange tabby Dexter! I wish I could offer him a home but we live in a small apt with Dexter and his brother Raylan already. If you can't find a home for them, I'd suggest reaching out to the Irvine Animal Care Center. They're a fantastic shelter here in Irvine and it's where we adopted our buddies! Right off the 5 and Jeffrey, they're no kill and have an excellent cat house. Every animal has a home with them until they are adopted, so if for some reason they aren't, they'll be taken care of for life. I hope you find a home for them soon!

  23. I also had problems with Synchro never drying... And that was after I used a quick dry top coat and drying drops. I returned mine

  24. Preamp is stunning! This is a nice collection but thats probably the only one I will be getting. Orly never disappoints with formula, thanks for the swatches! And good luck with the cat!

  25. Not getting the electronica reference in the colour choices at, they are really random. Such a cute cat, hope you find new home for the kittens :-)

  26. how's the blue compared to OPI dating a royal? i have dar, and i'm skipping man hunt because i think it's too close...

  27. I love Orly but just seeing the previews of these and now the swatches I"m sorry Orly but these are not attractive nor are they anything different. I love that you included Steve and hope someone wants him. I'm like you well I have one cat in the house but we have feral cats outside and we are in the 90's. Although I know the worst thing possible to do is leave them water and food I cannot see them laying in the grass or on my deck with their chests heaving and having trouble breathing. As soon as they drink and feel better enough to eat they are up and running. But how can you ignore cats in this weather. They get dehydrated and I really hate people that just dump animals like they are disposable so thank you for looking out for Steve

  28. It's a shame about Synchro b/c the bottle shots all make it look super cool but I haven't seen any swatches of it that look as nice as the color looks in the bottle. It's like it has two personalities. I don't plan to get any of the colors in this collection.

  29. Love Pre-amp - the 2 pinks are odd shades for a fall collection. I did not make it to my Sally's yesterday as planned to pick up a couple things and look for anything new in so don't know if these are in my neck of the woods yet or not. Thanks for the side by side with CG Man Hunter - my mind went right to that one when I saw this Orly - I have sooo many shades in that same range and don't need another one. It's a lovely day where I live - cool in the mid 60's and sadly fog is back in so we won't be seeing anything from the fireworks show that will go off tonight into the fog bank. I had to come home from down by the bay where there is music - it was too cold and getting damp down there. Not complaining as so many places in the US are soooo hot and so many are without power for the 5th day now with shortages in food and water on top of the sweltering heat. I would 'buy' this weather for the rest of summer if I could. I hate the heat.

  30. I think there is a comparison of OPI Dating a Royal and China Glaze Man Hunt just done here last week if you look back a bit. Since this Orly blue is super close to Man Hunt - you can draw your conclusions from that comparison.

  31. Check out the June 19th blog here from Polishaholic - it has OPI Dating a Royal compared with China Glaze Man Hunt - you can draw your comparison of this Orly blue from that since it's soooo close to Man Hunt.

  32. How would you think the blue compares to Sparitual's Circle of Life. Is it also a jelly cream sorbet type like Circle of Life?

    ReplyDelete
  33. I'm in love with Preamp! It's so beautiful and I've never seen anything like it before.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Cute Colors. Usually not a shimmer kinda gal, but I actually like Preamp. Decoded is pretty fab too :)

  35. These aren't that exciting. I do like Preamp, but the Shockwave is very similar to china glaze man hunt and ride the waves. . .wayyyy to many blues! lol, Great swatches though!

  36. Honestly, this is not a very interesting fall collection from orly. Why only a 4 color collection? Come on if this is a collection for fall then their should be more colors, fall is bursting with colors from yellow, orange, to auburn when plants start to change in color. I'm not sure were they got pink and the mauve color ( which I agree is an awful color, extremely streaky and frosty looking..ugh) for fall..so that went over someone's head. As for the blue and grey I feel like you can already find those colors in stores. I have royal by Revlon, its close but maybe a bit darker but I think french kiss from Pure Ice is a close dupe. As for the gray color, any light gray will do but my dupe for it is sidewalkers by NYC. Sorry Orly but better luck next fall cause this collection was a flop to me.

  37. Put synchro over black! It is a multichrome from yellow to red to pink to purple to blue! Trust me it is awesome!
Please swatch it like this, you won't be disappointed!

    ReplyDelete
  38. Synchro just reminds me of the 90s...like nail polish that my mom wore when I was a kid hahaha. I'm not a fan of pinks, so I wouldn't buy it. But I just bought Decoded & Shockwave and I love them!
