OPI Fall 2012 Designer Series: DS Indulgence & DS Luxurious Swatches

Hi guys! Hope you all had a great weekend! Today I have the 2 new OPI Designer Series shades for Fall 2012 to show you! When I first saw the press release for these I wasn't very excited, in person they are very pretty and better than I was expecting. To see full swatches of each polish along with reviews of each shade click the read more button below.

DS Indulgence is a berry red with a strong gold shimmer. I'm a big fan of polishes like this with a nice golden shimmer, this did not disappoint in that area! The formula was also spot on, not thick or thin...it was just right and it applied so smoothly! I used 2 coats for the photos below!

Shade

DS Luxurious is a vibrant red-orange with golden shimmer. I was a bit meh about this one, it's pretty but not very unique. One I put it on I was a bit more intrigued with it. This has a surprisingly red base and the red is most noticeable on the first coat. Once I applied the 2nd coat the orange became dominant, I wasn't expecting that! The formula again was fantastic, I used 2 coats for the photos below.

Both photos are in the shade, sorry about that! This polish is so saturated that in all the photos I took in the sun it just looked like and bright orange blob! It's gorgeous in the sun, wish my camera could have captured it properly that way for you guys!

Overall these are both pretty but I can't help feeling let down. To me Designer Series equals holos, last year we didn't get holos either but we did get an awesome glitter that made up for it (DS Temptation). Are these pretty, yes....would I pay Designer Series prices for them, no. They look like 2 polishes that could be in any regular OPI collection, I think that's why I'm so disappointed.

DS Indulgence and DS Luxurious will be available beginning September 2012 at Professional Salons, including Beauty Brands, Beauty First, Chatters, Dillard’s, JCPenney, Pure Beauty, Regis, Trade Secret, and ULTA, for $12.50 ($14.95 CAN) suggested retail for each Nail Lacquer.

Wow! The orange one looks lovely, but you're right about the price tag. I'm not going to spring for these because of that. Now if they were holographic, it might be a different story...

  6. Luxurious reminds me of China Glaze Riveting a bit too much. I wasn't really fond of that polish so this is a bit disappointing :(

  7. I don't think I'm going to be able to hold off buying Indulgence - I've loved every picture I've seen of it! Red + gold = a weakness.

  8. I was JUST on line last night looking to see if you had reviewed these yet as I wanted to know if these had glitter or a shimmer smooth finish. Your photos are always the best. I did not see it up yet when I looked, but here ya are now in my in-box! Thanks so much. I think this berry red/gold might be an all time fav when it gets here. I just ordered both of 'em BECAUSE they are not glitters this yr! Yeah! I hate the DS rough glitters - but the old holos and their now shimmers are usually pretty. Both of these look very complex.

  9. I have seen comparisons of Riveting to Luxurious side by side - they are not dupes at all...Riveting is much less complex and more of a Halloween or crayon orange color with shimmer...Luxurious has more rust in it over Riveting bringing it to a deeper hue and also Lux is got a lot more gold fleck in it than Riveting. But if you did not like Riveting then Lux probably is not for you. Maybe look at the rusty orange in the OPI Germany collection - it's really pretty and I think more wearable than is Lux. Lux is going to be one I am sure I will tire of fast when I put it on.

  10. Ditto here - red + gold in a great shimmer is always one I am going to go weak in the knees for. I look at this one like I do the red in the OPI Germany collection - both remind me of those great reds I used to wait all yr to see OPI bring out in their old holiday collections they don't do anymore now..they just do their movie tie ins at holiday - maybe it's more politically correct? Not sure...but I really miss the old OPI Christmas collections. Some of my all time fav reds came from those - thinking Dear Santa - my all time fav red+gold combo. Smitten with Mittens used to have that seat - but no longer.

  11. Interesting that OPI this yr discontinued a fav glass fleck orange of mine - Dressed to Empress. Now I know why with this Luxurious and the orange one in the Germany collection...plus when 'Empress' was changed from the old Black label formula to the new one, it was not the same - it got very thin and needed 3 coats.

  12. I really would like to see someone do a comparison of Indulgence next to Zoya Reva. It's reminding me a lot of that one from the Sunshine collection. Reva was the most red in that collection of great glass flecks and has a ton of gold in it. Kimmy is the orange/gold in that same Zoya collection but not thinking it's close dupe for Luxurious here.

  13. Reva is a lot lighter. It's the closest thing I have to Indulgence but it's not a dupe

  14. I like these. I have to see them in person but I'll definitely be buying one.

  15. Your swatches are the first ones I've seen that make me want Luxurious!! Although, I agree that the DS price is too much for either one.
