OPI Fall 2012 Germany Collection Swatches!

Hi guys! Today I have OPI's Fall 2012 Germany Collection to show you! Germany is one of the places on my bucket list to visit so I was all woohoo when OPI announced this collection! Waaaaay back in the stone age when my Dad was a kid he lived in Germany, my Grandpa was in the Air Force and stationed there for a while. He won't tell me about most of the time he spent there but sometimes I manage to get a good story out of my Aunt about what a terror my Dad was back then (it makes me happy I'm an only child haha)! Then when my Dad got a little older and he joined the Air Force himself he ended up stationed there too, too bad that was pre-Jen :(

Anyway, I love when OPI does collections themed after places...mostly because the names as especially funny with these kinds of collections. Another thing on my bucket list: sit in whatever kind of meeting OPI has when they name collections, I think that would be so fun! To see swatches of all 12 shades in the Germany Collection click the read more button below the collage!

Berlin There Done That is a light brown taupe creme. I love polishes like this, I can't even tell you guys how many taupe shades I have in my collection. Every time I see them I buy them even though I probably have dupes at home...my addiction is bad! The formula was pretty great on this polish, it was thin but not the kind of thin that is sheer. I used 2 coats for the photos below.

Danke-Shiny Red is a saturated shimmery red. This is one of those glowy red's I always like so no complaints here! The formula again was great, I used 2 coats for the photos below!

Deutsch You Want Me Baby? is a shimmery red-orange. This color is insane, if you asked me to bottle the color I think of when I think of Fall this would be it. It reminds me when the leaves on trees change! Formula wise it was again, great! I used 2 coats!

In person this is a touch more orange most of the time, depending the lighting it does tend to lean more to red. My camera was having issues capturing just how gorgeous this polish is!

Don't Pretzel My Buttons is a light beige nude. I always want to love nudes like this but the ones with yellow undertones like this never look as good on my skin tone as I would like them to :( The formula was just okay here, it was a little patchy on the first coat but a thick-ish 2nd coat evened it out without a problem. I used 2 coats for the photos below.

Don't Talk Bach To Me is a shimmery yellow toned green. This reminds me a bit of the greens that OPI did for the Shrek Collection. This is one that won't appeal to everyone but I quite like it...I love unusual colors like this! The shimmer in this was on the very hidden side, I could see it out in direct sunlight but in lower light it was pretty much invisible. The formula was another nice one, 2 coats for full opacity!

Every Month Is Oktoberfest is a vampy reddish purple shimmer. This polish is GORGEOUS, it reminds me of what OPI was doing when I first started getting into nail polish (like Midnight in Moscow and Siberian Nights). The base of this polish is a gorgeous purple, you can see the base on the first coat but after that it pretty much looks black. The formula was awesome, I used 2 coats for the photos below!

I know there has been some confusion about this shade. Some early swatches of this collection had this polish switched with German-icure by OPI. I went to Ulta last night and double checked that Every Month Is Oktoberfest is in fact the one with the purple base. I'm not sure if OPI switched the names on these or if the first few bloggers who received the collection just had bottles with mixed up labels! Just wanted to let you guys know since I've seen a lot of talk about it! :)

German-icure by OPI is a burgundy red shimmer in a blackened base.  Another vampy shimmer, be still my heart. I love you OPI...more of these please! The formula wasn't quite as fantastical as Every Month Is Oktoberfest but it was pretty great also, I used 2 coats for full opacity!

My Very First Knockwurst is a light pink toned nude. Alright, now this is my kind of nude. It's the kind I love and the kind that loves my skin tone back! The formula wasn't my favorite unfortunately, the opacity was good but it was a little more watery than I personally care for. I used 2 coats for the photos below.

Nein! Nein! Nein! Ok Fine! is a dark green toned grey. I laugh so hard at the name of this, my Dad was also pretty amused by it! I only wish this pulled more green on me. I've seen other swatches where it looked so much more green :( The formula was good, again a little more watery than I love but I didn't have any issues with it. I used 2 coats for the photos below.

Schnapps Out Of It! is described by OPI as mauve. It reminds me more of a rosy terra cotta kind of shade. Maybe it's just me but mauve makes me think of Grandma's and this color doesn't feel Grandma-ish to me. There is also a hidden silver shimmer, it's not very obvious on the nail...even in the sun. The formula was really really great, if you are careful it could be a 1 coater! I ended up using 2 coats!

Suzi And The 7 Dusseldorfs is a glowy purple shimmer. I love the name of this one too and the purple is gorgeous. There formula was good here, it's looking a little brushstoke-y in photos but in person that wasn't the case. I used 2 coats for the photos below.

Shade
Unfor-greta-bly Blue is a shimmery medium dusty blue. This is a little frosty for my taste but I love the base color of the polish. The formula was really nice, 2 coats for full opacity!

Shade
Overall I really like this collection, there is a little something for everyone. My picks are Every Month Is Oktoberfest, German-icure by OPI, Deutsch You Want Me Baby? and Don't Talk Bach To Me. If you only get 1 polish from this collection Deutsch You Want Me Baby? would be my pick, that polish is perfection for Fall!

The Germany Collection from OPI is out now! You can find it at professional salons including Ulta, JCPenney, Beauty Brands, Beauty First, Chatters, Dillard's, Pure Beauty, Regis and Trade Secret. OPI retails for $8.50 ($9.95 CAN) per bottle!

  4. OHHH! I get it now! I was really confused about German-icure and Every Month is Oktoberfest! I'd added German-icure to my wish list when I saw the first swatches of it and then a couple days ago I saw it again and I was like huh, that's not what it looked like before... Because I don't really like German-icure. So it must've been a switched label because it was definitely Every Month is Oktoberfest that I am DYING for. So pretty.

  5. Love you're swatches! Is nien nien nien similar to Zoya's 2 grayed teal looking shades?

  6. Do you think "Danke-Shiny Red" would be good for stamping? I'm looking for some sort of metallic or glittery red that is bright enough to pop over black. Thanks!

  7. I would love it if you did a post with all your Taupe colors! I always feel that they look alike and I don't want to buy similar shades. They always vary ever so slightly!

  14. My pick is definitely Deutsch You Want Me Baby?. It is probably the most unique color I see here and I love a good orange!

    ReplyDelete
  15. OMG Thank you for mentioning that! I was soOOOOooo confused because I had reminded myself that I need German-icure by OPI and then I saw the later swatches and was baffled!

  19. Yes, I'm looking forward to picking up that one, although it is amazing how red it can look in some pictures (Colores de Carol). I can't wait to see it in person.

I look forward to the comparison!

  20. I'd be interested to see a comparison between Germanicure and Orly Smoulder (new Fired up collex), Essie Wrapped in Rubies, Zoya Isla - I'm sure there must be a dupe somewhere or else I'll need to get Germanicure too!

  21. Have to get Oktoberfest! Awesome, awesome colour!

How does German-icure / Oktoberfest compare to OPI Royal Rajah Ruby? and Suzi And The 7 Dusseldorfs to OPI Grape..Set..Match? Thanks in advance!

  22. So many lovely shades in this collection, but German-icure and Don't Talk Bach are definitely coming home with me.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I don't own Royal Rajah Ruby so I can't compare those but I can do the other one!

    ReplyDelete
  24. Unfortunately I don't own any of the polishes you want to see German-icure compared to, I'm sorry!

    ReplyDelete
  25. Always disappointed by OPI's larger collections. I want none of these. Sigh . . . they're just so blahhhhh.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Great swatches! I picked up Every Month Is Oktoberfest, German-icure, and Deutsch You Want Me Baby already. And I got Suzi and the Seven Dusseldorfs for my sister.

  27. Thank you!

  28. I was wondering about the comparison between Every Month is Oktoberfest to Zoya Jem. Every Month Is Oktoberfest to Zoya Jem.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I am just really loving Suzi and the 7 dusseldorfs!

    ReplyDelete
  31. Not sure if you're doing any comparisons with Nein! Nein! Nein! Ok Fine! But I was wondering how it compared to Zoya Evvie or Sinful Colors Leap Flog. Thanks :)

    ReplyDelete
  32. I don't own that Sinful Colors polish but the Zoya is on my list to compare that one with!

    ReplyDelete
  33. I actually love every shade in this collection (rare), especially the vampys. mhm! :)

    ReplyDelete
  34. Love your blog! It is really addictive, and I normally wait for your swatches before I buy nail polish :) Could you please compare Suzi and the 7 Dusseldorfs to Opi Purple with a purpose?

    ReplyDelete
  35. Beautiful swatches! I want the colors so bad... Could you compare "Bach" with the Shrek colors? Or with "Did it on 'em"? And is "German-icure" similar to Sally Hansen "Haute Chcolate"? Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  36. Thank you!

I'll add that comparison to my list!

    ReplyDelete
  37. I gotta say I'm loving this collection. I picked up a couple of colors already. I'm wearing Danke-shiny red and I'm loving it even though it's a red. If you have NARS Storm Bird can you compare that to Nein! Nein! Nein!? Thanks soooo much :)

    ReplyDelete
  38. This is right up my alley too! I've always wanted to go to Germany, and I love this collection as much as I loved the Russian collection they did. I'll be all over these as soon as I can get them.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Oktoberfest with Nars Purple Rain (I think these are probably pretty different but I'm just wondering) and then Schnapps Out of it and Essie All Tied Up

    ReplyDelete
  40. Awesome, I was going to ask for Grape Set Match too!

    ReplyDelete
  41. I feel like I've seen the blue before....if you have it, can you compare to Blue My Mind?

    Always love your swatches!

    ReplyDelete
  42. Thanks! What brand is Blue My Mind? I don't have an OPI by that name

    ReplyDelete
  43. Thank you for this post. I just bought three polishes from this collection today.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Berlin Done That looks a little like Chinchilly from Essie to me. Also German-icure looks a little like Bogata Blackberry from OPI, but I LOVE that one so even if it is slightly different I will get it. Every month is Oktoberfest will absolutely be purchased by me because purple shades are my weakness!

    ReplyDelete
  45. How close is Dusseldorf to Grape Set Match? Seems like GSM is more sparkly, but curious how close the hue is. Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  46. Thank you for sharing your beautiful swatches, I love your blog. I saw some swatches of Essie Miss fancy pants from the stylenomics collections and I think is similar to Berlin there done that, I hope you get Miss fancy pants to make a comparison with BTDT

    ReplyDelete
  47. Thanks Maria! Unfortunately I don't have that Essie Collection yet so I won't be able to compare them right now :(

    ReplyDelete
  48. Excited to grab Deustch you want me, Danke Shiny, and Germanicure. So gorgeous!

    ReplyDelete
  49. Gorgeous swatches. If you could, I would love to see a comparison between Deutsch You Want Me Baby and China Glaze Riveting.

    ReplyDelete
  50. They aren't even close! I would love to compare them but Deutsch was such a nightmare to photograph that I don't want to go through that again lol! I can tell you I don't have a dupe to that polish though, I've never seen anything quite like it

    ReplyDelete
  51. Thanks for the swatches! I'd love to see comparisons between My Very First Knockwurst and OPI Steady As She Rose, Danke-Shiny Red and OPI An Affair in Red Square, Every Month is Oktoberfest and OPI Black Cherry Chutney, German-icure by OPI and OPI Midnight in Moscow, Berlin There Done That and Essie Chinchilly and Suzi and the 7 Dusseldorfs with China Glaze Señorita Bonita. Obviously I don't expect you do them all, just some suggestions. =)

  52. Pretty! I'd live to see ChG Red Pearl with Danke-Shiny Red, and Essie Topless and Barefoot with My Very First Knockeurst. Thanks so much!

  53. Thanks for the great suggestions Kat!

  54. I like the two vampy-shades, the pink-nude and the dark-grey-green. But I´m sure the terracotta-shade "Schanps.. will be in my collection as well before I know it, because I think it looks unique and I don´t have any colour like this, same goes for the shreck-lime-green!

    ReplyDelete
  55. Thanks! That's good to know because I have Riveting and was debating if I wanted to get Deutsch as well. I have a thing for that fall/pumpkin/burnt orange shade.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Oktoberfest and vampsterdam. Dance and china glaze red ruby pumps. Nein and opi sephora Break a leg warmer. And opi sephora I'm with brad/germanicure

    ReplyDelete
  57. My Very First Knockwurst is my favorite from this collection, I already have polishes similar to the other polishes. I can't wait to get my hands on My Very First Knockwurst. I don't have an opaque light pink in my collection yet.

    ReplyDelete
  58. It's an OPI, I think it's pretty old though. Bummer.

    ReplyDelete
  59. I need Oktoberfest! How does this compare to Black Cherry Chutney from the India collection?

    ReplyDelete
  60. Great swatches! How does Danke-Shiny Red compare to China Glaze Thunderbird? Are there maybe some other China Glaze polishes that comes close to it?

    ReplyDelete
  61. I'd love to see don't pretzel my buttons compared with did you 'ear about van gogh!

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  63. I'd love to see don't pretzel my buttons compared with did you 'ear about van gogh!

    ReplyDelete

  65. Would you say
My Very First Knockwurst is a dupe or similar to essie's lady like?

    ReplyDelete
  66. I don't own that Essie, not sure if they are dupes or not...sorry!

    ReplyDelete
  67. Hi there! I love your blog and I realize I'm a little late but does Opi German-icure remind you of Zoya Jem? They look almost the same to me. I don't want to own dupes. Thanks in advance doll!

    ReplyDelete
  68. Nope, It's much closer to Every Month Is Oktoberfest but it's not a dupe of that either. I did a comparison in the post linked below if you want to see how close they are!

  69. I nearly feel over when I saw this collection at a Ricky's at NYC. I am loving pretty much all things German at the moment - it's sort of goal of mine to live and work in Germany =) But anyway, it made absolute sense that I would love pretty much every shade in this series! I own My Very First Knockwurst and Don't Pretzel My Button. I love both; the latter gives me the perfect mannequin hand. Question: How similar is Schnapps Out Of It! to Gouda Gouda Two Shoes (in the OPI Holland collection)...? Comparing on the OPI website, they look exactly the same. I love that mauve-more-like-terracotta shade, so I'll likely just have to own both!!

    ReplyDelete
  70. Oh me too! I would love to see that comparison as well! Although, I'll probably just have to go and get myself each shade in both the Germany and Holland collections....you know, just in case! =)

    ReplyDelete
  71. hi i was looking for your lovely swatches and i think opi my very first knockwurst seems to be very close to misa someone like you and ziya kennedy. Could you make a compsrison between them. thanks a lot

  72. A little late to the comment thread, but whatever.

Blue My Mind is from 2006 original Brights collection apparently. I just recently acquired it in an OPI haul of new old stock, so I now have both Blue My Mind (BMM) and Unforgretably Blue (UB) -- BMM is more cobalt than UB and more bright. Think a hybrid of UB with Nails Inc's Baker Street and that's close-ish. Finish is basically the same with the two OPIs, but the colour of BMM is def. more vibrant (and also less forgiving against my pale pink skintone, though still wearable). Formula-wise BMM is more sheer and took three coats, whereas I was happy with UB in two.
