OPI Fall 2012 Germany Collection Comparisons!

Hi guys! Today I have a ton of comparisons for you guys for the OPI Germany Collection. There are also some other randoms like a couple of the Nicole by OPI Fall 2012 polishes 1 for one of the new OPI DS polishes! There were a bunch more comparisons requested that I unfortunately was not able to do due to not owning the polish you guys wanted to see these compared with. Hopefully another blogger can do them for ya! Check out all the comparisons by clicking the read more button under the collage, there are around 20 of them woohoo!

Nicole by OPI Iris vs ChG No Plain Jane. These 2 are definitely dupes! Formula wise they were also very much the same, I needed 3 coats for each!

Nicole by OPI Mer-maid For Each Other vs. China Glaze Unpredictable. These 2 are also dupes! I did prefer the Nicole by OPI formula here, it was slightly more opaque! I used 2 coats for the Nicole by OPI and 3 for the China Glaze!

OPI Berlin There Done That vs. American Apparel Mouse vs. Essie Chinchilly. Initially I thought Chinchilly would be a dead on dupe for Berlin There Done That but it leans much more grey on the nail! American Apparel Mouse is very close though, Berlin There Done That was a touch darker but you can't tell in photos and it was hard to tell in person! I used 2 coats of each polish.

OPI Berlin There Done That vs OPI A Taupe The Space Needle. This was a requested comparison but they were so different that I decided to just put them side by side in the bottles for you. I don't think we need a nail swatch to see that these aren't dupes!

OPI DS Luxurious vs China Glaze Riveting. The first thing I thought of when I saw DS Luxurious was China Glaze Riveting. I thought for sure they would be dupes! It turns out that DS Luxurious is just a tad darker and more red toned. They aren't dupes but they are probably close enough for most people! The difference was more obvious in person than in the photo below but not by much! I used 2 coats of each polish for the photo below.

OPI Danke-Shiny Red vs. Zoya Elisa vs. OPI An Affair In Red Square. Elisa and Danke-Shiny Red are pretty much dupes, I couldn't tell them apart on the nail! Elisa was the smallest bit darker but really, unless you are really analyzing them side by side no one is going to be able to tell. An Affair In Red Square while very very similar is a bit lighter and not a dupe. I used 2 coats of each polish!

OPI Danke-Shiny Red vs. Zoya Elisa vs. OPI The Color Minnie. Initially when I saw Danke-Shiny Red I thought it would be a dupe of OPI The Color of Minnie. While it's the same kind of idea The Color of Minnie is lighter and much more pink toned! I used 2 coats of each polish!

OPI Don't Pretzel My Buttons vs. Essie Sand Tropez vs Essie Brooch The Subject. Sand Tropez is much lighter, no dupes there. Brooch The Subject is much closer, it's a little bit darker but the difference is very slight....you definitely don't need both! I used 2 coats of each polish.

OPI Don't Pretzel My Buttons vs. Essie Toplesss and Barefoot. No dupes here either, Topless and Barefoot is not as dark and doesn't have as much of a yellow undertone. I think if Don't Pretzel My Buttons and My Very First Knockwurst had a baby it would be Topless and Barefoot haha! I used 2 coats of Don't Pretzel My Buttons and 3 of Topless and Barefoot for the photo below.

OPI Don't Pretzel My Buttons vs Zoya Avery. Avery was the first polish I thought of when I saw Don't Pretzel My Buttons. These are almost dupes, not 100% identical but I don't think you need both in your stash! I used 2 coats of each. For the record, I prefer the Zoya formula here but they are both great!

OPI Every Month Is Oktoberfest vs Nicole by OPI Smile For The Glam-era. No dupes here, Smile for the Glam-era is darker and the shimmer is a bit different and not as glowy looking. I used 2 coats of each polish.

OPI Every Month Is Oktoberfest vs. OPI Black Cherry Chutney vs Nars Purple Rain. No dupes here either. Black Cherry Chutney is the same kind of idea but the base of it is much more opaque and the shimmer is a lot more hidden. Purple Rain is also the same kind of idea but it's more of a purple shimmer in a purple base where Every Month Is Oktoberfest is a reddish shimmer in a purple base. I used 2 coats of each polish for the photo below.

OPI Every Month Is Oktoberfest vs. Zoya Jem vs. OPI Plum Full of Cheer. No dupes here either but these 2 are both closer than the last comparison! Jem and Plum Full of Cheer are both a little bit more purple. I used 2 coats for the photos below.

OPI German-icure by OPI vs OPI Midnight In Moscow. I thought for sure these 2 would be dupes. I guess my memory of Midnight In Moscow was waaaay off haha! German-icure by OPI is like Midnight In Moscow on steroids! I used 2 coats of German-icure by OPI and 3 coats of Midnight In Moscow for the photos below.

OPI German-icure by OPI vs. Jessica Cinnamon Kiss. Alright now, now we're talking. This Jessica is as close as I have to a dupe for German-icure. In the sun I can't tell a difference between them but in the shade you can tell that the base of German-icure is a bit darker and not as shimmer packed. I don't want to call these dupes since you can see a difference in the shade but I think it's about as close as you can get. Cinnamon Kiss is part of Jessica's Fall 2012 Collection which I'll have swatches of soon in case you've never heard of it! I used 2 coats of each polish for the photos below.

OPI I Think In Pink vs OPI Pink Friday. This was requested a couple times when I posted swatches of the Pink of Hearts 2012 duo last week. No dupes here! I used 3 coats of I Think In Pink and 2 coats of Pink Friday for the photo below.

OPI My Very First Knockwurst vs. OPI Steady As She Rose. These 2 are also not dupes, Steady As She Rose is a lot lighter and has purple undertones! I used 2 coats of My Very First Knockwurst and 3 coats of Steady As She Rose for the photo below.

OPI My Very First Knockwurst vs Zoya Kennedy. These 2 are very close, in photos Kennedy is looking a little lighter but in person I couldn't tell them apart! I used 2 coats of each polish.

OPI Nein! Nein! Nein! Ok Fine! vs OPI Suzi Skis In The Pyrenees. This comparisons was requested, I was hoping these 2 might be a little closer than they ended up being but they are pretty different. Nein! has a very strong green undertone which is obvious when you put it next to a polish that doesn't! It's also lacking the shimmer that Suzi Skis In The Pyrenees has. I used 2 coats of Nein! and 3 of Suzi Skis In The Pyrenees for the photo below.

OPI Nein! Nein! Nein! Ok Fine! vs Zoya Noot. These are nearly dead on! On me,  Noot pulls a tiny bit more green but I think that's just my skin tone since I've seen photos of Nein! that look way more green than it looks on me. You definitely don't need both of these! I used 2 coats for each polish.

OPI Schnapps Out Of It vs OPI Gouda Gouda Two Shoes. No dupes here, besides being lighter the shimmer in Gouda Gouda Two Shoes is gold where the shimmer in Schnapps Out Of It is silver and more frosty looking. I used 2 coats of each polish for the photo below.

OPI Suzi and the 7 Dusseldorfs vs. China Glaze Senorita Bonita. No dupes with these 2! I used 2 coats of the OPI and 3 coats of the China Glaze for the photo below.

OPI Suzi And The 7 Dusseldorfs vs OPI Grape Set Match vs. Zoya Hope. A lot of you guys wanted to see Grape Set Match compared with Suzi and the 7 Dusseldorfs! It's much darker and the finish is a lot different! Zoya Hope is pretty close though, it's a litter darker but it's the closest polish I have in my stash! I used 2 coats of each polish for the photo below.

OPI Suzi And The 7 Dusseldorfs vs. Zoya Suri vs. OPI Purple With A Purpose. Zoya Suri was another popular request, it's a lot darker and not as red toned! OPI Purple With A Purpose was also a request, I forgot how much I liked that polish! It's not a dupe though :( I used 2 coats of each polish for the photo below.

OPI Unfor-greta-bly Blue vs OPI Into the Night. I thought these 2 would be much closer than they are but clearly, no dupes here! I used 2 coats of Unfor-greta-bly Blue and 3 of Into The Night for the photo below.

OPI Unfor-greta-bly Blue vs OPI Swimsuit Nailed It. Here is another request, I got this one after I was done with this post but I thought I'd at least thrown in a bottle shot so anyone wondering can see the difference!

Hope this post was helpful for you guys!

I live for comparisons! Thanks so much for this!!! I'm only 6mo into this whole polish addiction thing and don't have most of what you compared to but I do have OPI Black Cherry Chutney and want OPI German-icure so I'm glad they are not dupes! (I have way too many in that color range!)

  3. Thank you, thank you for all the hard work!!! Im glad to see I don't have as many dupes as thought. I think I'm going to have to pick up An Affair in Red Square since I'm loving Danke-shiny red and they're similar but not identical.. :)

  6. Thank you so much for this! I was going to get OPI Berlin There Done That, but since its not too far away from ChinChilly I will not. They aren't dupes, but to similar to spend the $8.00!

  21. Aw, I love you, I totally love these shade comparisons! Now I don't feel so bad that I'm not actually going to buy the entire Germany collection :)

    ReplyDelete
  22. These are great. I must say that when I swatched my bottle of An Affair in Red Square against Danke-Shiny Red, the colors were virtually indistinguishable.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Your comparison are always very very useful!!!! Thanks a lot!!!

    ReplyDelete
  24. are you going to do the Essie Yogaga collection soon? And great post (:

    ReplyDelete
  25. That's very odd, mine are very different...more noticeably in real life than in photos!

    ReplyDelete
  26. Probably not, I finally saw the collection in person and it was underwhelming. I probably won't be buying anything from it

  27. YES, very helpful - these are my favorite kinds of posts! The more the better! Thank you!!! :)

Wow! This was so awesome of you to do. There are a couple of polishes that I wanted and now I seeing how close they are I can just pick one.

    ReplyDelete
  29. wow - epic!! This is a legendary post Jenn xxx

  30. i swatched RRR & Germanicure next to eachother on my nail wheel last night. I thought for sure they'd be dupes but RRR appears to much more jewel/ruby toned with less obvious shimer when it's next to Germanicure. Germanicure has a more warm, fall leaves look. Also, IMO Germanicure looks better in low light because the shimmer is more obvious.

    ReplyDelete
  31. ValiantlyVarnishedAugust 14, 2012 at 10:07 AM

Yeah- I was really disappointed when I saw it too.

    ReplyDelete
  32. well.. i guess there are a lot of similar colors, don't know if the pictures don't make justice to some of the polishes, but for me.. there were a lot of dupes here..
IDK, but when the dupe or similar polish is of a different brand it's kind of ok, but when is the same brand.. i think it's a fail..

    ReplyDelete
  33. Wow, great post, Jen! Thanks so much. I think this has saved many of us a ton of $$ here. ;) ^^

    ReplyDelete
  34. I requested Nein Nein Nein & Suzi Skis...Thank you! It helps a lot to see them together. I think I'm happy with Suzi Skis!

    ReplyDelete
  35. I agree there are a lot of similar polishes but not a lot of dupes. For me a dupe=the exact same color

Thank you so much for this awesome (and thorough!) comparisons post! It really helped me make up my mind about what to/what not to buy.

  37. I first found your blog because I was looking for comparisons of I-can't-remember-what .. and I've kept coming back very very very often ... because your swatches are great and your comparisons are superb. I do comparisons on my blog occasionally (but not as in-depth as yours!) and I know how much work it is and I really appreciate it - the post is SO useful!!!

  38. How about NeIn Nein Nein and Essie Power Clutch? Power Clutch was the first green taupe, from the fall 2011 collection.

    ReplyDelete
  39. I don't own Power Clutch, sorry!

    ReplyDelete
  40. How close are 'Knockwurst' and Essie T&B? I'd also be interested in a comparison of Danke shiny-red and Essie Jag-u-are if you have it.

    ReplyDelete
  41. I don't have that Essie sorry. T&B isn't a dupe to either of the nudes in the Germany collection, it looks like what you would get if you mixed the 2 nudes together

    ReplyDelete
  42. Wow, how do you have time to compare all these? ;O

It was helpful too me, saw some polishes I don't need after all ;)

    Love your blog!

    ReplyDelete
  43. Thank you so much for doing these comparisons. That is why I absolutely love your blog! Not many people do comparisons, and when they do its of only 2 or 3.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Thanks Jen! I hot my Oktoberfest today, its now and I adore it! Xx

    ReplyDelete
  45. i think is the photo that doesn't make justice to the colors..

i hate when you buy a new color that looks one way in the bottle, and when you use it, you realize that is a lot like one you had before..

it happened with a crackled, one was purple and the other BROWN, when I applied on skittles nails, it was a dupe..

    ReplyDelete
  46. This is great, I'd really been wondering about a few of these. Suzi and the 7 Dusseldorfs actually looked a LOT like Sally Hansen HD Cyber and Revlon Amethyst when I first saw swatches, but now I think it's a lot more red than those two.

    ReplyDelete
  47. What a fabulous post. Thanks so much. I love, love love comparison posts esp when the compairs are major line colors from major line companies we all would be familiar with. This is so helpful A @ of the compares that you did are just the ones I had in my mind or read about on the Germany blog you posted with the swatches. I was not recalling names of shades well but knew a # of the ones being commented on such as Romeo and Joliet and a few others like Essie must have some like things to the Germany lighter creams - then the China Glaze purple was one I thought I remembered being similar but surely can see now they are not the same. For many, getting close is OK - esp when $ is tight or it's just not a color range one needs to be dead on dup over - often I find it's all in the eye of the owner how a similar shade stacks up. You so thoroughly covered these I applaud you. There is something out there for everyone. But surely none of us like when there are re-issues of old shades by a company or so close there is next to no difference. I thought when I saw the new DS Luxurious it was close but not exact as ChG Riveting. I also now wonder if it's really close to one OPI took out of the line this year 'Dressed To Empress?" That had been a fav shade of mine for years. It was thinned out a lot when OPI went from the black to green label formula. I was sad none the less to see Dressed to Empress go. Now I think I know why they pulled it...that would be the other one I would like to see a comparison on. Dressed to Empress is still on the secondary market but will get harder to come by over time. Again, great job!

  69. Thank you for doing this. I love these comparison posts.

  70. So very helpful, and I'd imagine time-consuming on your end. Thanks so much! I really was curious about the comparison between OPI Schnapps Out Of It vs OPI Gouda Gouda Two Shoes. Now I see there is a clear difference, but still not sure if I need both :)

    ReplyDelete
  74. I don't own Blair sorry! I didn't have any Zoya's close to German-icure by OPI

    ReplyDelete
  75. Thanks so much for the comparisons. Helps me decide what I really "need."

    ReplyDelete
  76. Can you compare OPI NNNOF and China Glaze Concrete Catwalk? I already have CC but I need something to keep me from getting the OPI?

    ReplyDelete
  77. Thanks SO MUCH for the comparison on Germanicure and Midnight in Moscow. Brought Germanicure home and compared and went, "Great, these are going to be EXACTLY the same. :(" But apparently not! woohoo

  78. Thanks! Just stumbled upon this blog and love what you're doing!

    ReplyDelete
  79. Thanks so much for this!! I posted in the Germany Collection thread that I wanted to see a comparison between OPI Schnapps Out Of It and OPI Gouda Gouda Two Shoes, but I failed to notice you had already made one. Very fastidious - thanks! Since they are clearly not dupes, I have every reason to own both shades!

    ReplyDelete
  88. I know this is super late! But I brought a bottle of sinful colors rich in heart to ulta to compare it to every month is Oktoberfest and it is IDENTICLE in the bottle. I was wondering if you could swatch it. Also China glaze heart of Africa is very similar as well to Oktoberfest though I know that ones not a dupe.

    ReplyDelete
  89. I think Catrice Heavy Metallilic might be a dupe for OPI Suzi and the 7 Dusseldorfs...

    ReplyDelete
  90. Catrice isn't sold where I live so I have no way of comparing them, sorry

    ReplyDelete
  91. That's too bad. :( It's a really good budget brand.

    ReplyDelete
  92. I simply love your blog :) I was just going through a couple of nail polish colors here...can u plz lemme know if the OPI grape set match compares to Essie sexy divide in any manner? I love Essie sexy divide, but for some reason it never dries on me! I have tried so many different top coats to make this color work, but it just doesn't work...so I was thinking of ordering OPI grape set match instead...so please do let me know if Essie sexy divide compares to OPI in any manner, colorwise...TIA!
