Butter London Autumn/Winter 2012 Collection Swatches

Hi guys! Hope you're having a good day so far, I'm pretty exhausted today! Last night I went to see Paramore, I don't know how the heck I ever managed to go to 2 or 3 concerts a week a few years ago. I feel like I've been hit by a truck haha...I think this means I'm getting old :(

Today I have the gorgeous new Butter London Autumn/Winter 2012 Collection to share with you guys. I really love the theme of this collection, it's based off of the textures featured on the catwalk for this season. All I know here is if you can take a texture and translate it into a holographic nail polish I am a fan, I wish everyone translated things into rainbow-y goodness like that. In addition to 2 holographic polishes there are 2 great glitters and an awesome shimmer in this collection! To see swatches of all 5 shades click the read more button below!

Dodgy Barnett is a silver holo. The holo is on the subtle side but it's gorgeous! If you don't like super in your face rainbows like I do this is probably something you will enjoy. The formula was really nice, it was sheer on the first coat but I only ended up needing 2 coats for the full opacity. I had no application issues and top coat did not dull the holo effect! As is the case with most holos it's much better in real life, photos don't do it much justice!

Gobsmacked is charcoal grey and silver glitter in a sheer charcoal grey base. The glitter in this is super fine and incredibly sparkly! I have to say, when I first saw this in person at Ulta I was a little underwhelmed. It wasn't until I had this at home and on that I realize how beautiful it is! I did have some formula issues with it, my biggest issues were that the formula was on the thick side and had a tendency to get goopy as I went. I think that problem will be fixed pretty easily with nail polish thinner though!  The coverage was really great with Gobsmacked, better than I expected! I used 2 coats for the photos below. This did dry dull and ate top coat, I needed 2 thick coats of top coat to get it shiny.

Shade

Lovely Jubbly is an absolute glitter bomb that Butter London describes as a vibrant magenta nail lacquer flecked with red, blue and gold micro-particles. What I like about this is that in the sun it leans very much towards the purple side of magenta but in the shade and in low lighting it leans more towards the pink side of magenta. The coverage was great on this, you can build it up on it's own with 3 coats (which is what I'm showing below) or you can layer it over other polishes.

Shade

Shag is a reddish brown shimmer. This is my favorite of the collection (surprising since there are 2 holos!). This polish instantly makes me think of Fall and the leaves changing. I always love shades like this on my skin tone also, they are so flattering! The formula was great, it flowed nicely on the nail and had great opacity. I used 2 coats for the photos below.

Shade

Trustafarian is a golden green holo. The holo in this one, much like Dodgy Barnett, is on the subtle side but it's quite nice! I love that Butter London actually gave us holos! The formula was also very much the same...it was great! I used 2 coats for the photos below. This one is so much better in real life, it kills me that the prettiest polishes never photograph as gorgeous as they really are!

Butter London's Autumn/Winter 2012 Collection is available now, each polish retails for $14 and can be purchased at several places including ButterLondon.com, Ulta & Ulta.com, Nordstroms & Nordstroms.com and nailpolishcanada.com.

  1. I'd be curious to see comparisons of Trustafarian to Milani Hi-Tech, Dodgy Barnett to Milani HD, and Lovely Jubbly to Sally Hansen's Rockstar Pink. They look like straight-up dupes to me, which is kind of disappointing since those are all fairly inexpensive drugstore brands, and having dupes isn't usually butter London's style!

    1. Gobsmacked also reminds me of one of Milani's One Coat Glitters.

  2. Lovely swatches! I really like Gobsmacked. I don't mind funny/rude name usually for polish but Shag is a bit rude! Don't know if you use that word in the US/Canda but here (UK) it's pretty bad. :P I think sometimes Butter London don't know what they're doing with some of the names of these polishes ha.

  4. Wow, every single one of those is beautiful. And not the types of polishes I'd expect from Butter London.

  9. I don't have any of those, sorry! If I remember correctly though from when I did have the Milani's those were scattered holos and the effect was stronger than the Butter London polishes

  10. I was not impressed with this collection at first, but as I am seeing more and more swatches I am warming up to it! I love all but Shag; ALTHOUGH I suspect I will love that one on! I may have to try it!!!

  11. oooh, I have Rockstar Pink...I can see that! Now I need to find this one in a tester or something to see. That would be a bummer if so.

  12. I recently saw a comparison post between Lovely Jubbly and Sally Hansen Rockstar Pink and they seem to be dupes. I have Rockstar Pink and I'm happy with it, so I don't need the BL. The others in this collection are gorgeous but my favorite is probably Gobsmacked.

  14. I have already worn my Dodgy Barnett (since I could pass it off as summer) and LOVE it! I also got Shag! I think it'll be great for a warm toned metallic.

  19. when you thin out nail polish how much do you put in it?

  20. It varies depending on the polish, I usually put in a few drops and test it out then add more if I need to. I keep doing that until the consistency is what I want

  22. Gobsmacked reminds me a lot of the Silver Knight (also by BL). Did you find them similar to the degree that if a person has one they don't need to bother buying the other (but instead save that $ for a different polish)?? Thanx in advance for your answer (this has been buggin me for awhile lol).

  23. How does Gobsmacked compare to Tinsel Town by China Glaze? They seem pretty similar with Gobsmacked being a a bit darker. Is it worth it to own both?

  24. Fab pics that really show off the polishes well. Thanks for sharing

  25. wow ! I like them but Shag does look a lot like Smog by Urban Decay (as far as I'm concerned, I'm not an expert...yet ^^)

Smog is less shiny but really nice too !
