OPI Halloween 2012 So So Skullicious Mini Set Swatches

Hi guys! Today I have my first bit of Halloween 2012 goodies, I can't believe I managed to find these so early. I walked into my local beauty supply about a week and a half ago and was shocked to see these out. The owner of the place and I even had a conversation about how it was odd that they got them in July haha!

OPI's So So Skullicious mini pack for this Halloween is an awesome Dia De Los Muertos inspired set. At first I wasn't going to pick this set up but the awesome packaging and nail decals sold me....I think this makes me a sucker haha! I have photos of the packaging and the cute decals at the end of the post for those of you who want to see that!

To see swatches & review of each shade click the read more button below.

A-Rose From The Dead is a pink creme. I'm sure it's a re-promote of another OPI but I don't own whatever it was previously called. I do enjoy the color, it doesn't feel traditionally Halloween-ish to me but it definetely goes with the theme OPI is using! The formula was nice on this one, I used 2 coats for the photos below.

Candlelight is a bright sunny yellow. I believe this is a renamed Need Sunglasses. I had formula issues here, I own Need Sunglasses and while it's not the easiest yellow to apply it was much better than this. I blame that stupid microscopic brush in the OPI mini's I used 4 coats of Candlelight for the photos below.

Hi, Pumpkin! is and orange creme. The formula was okay, the opacity was nice but I found it to be a tad bit streaky. I needed 3 coats to even it all out. This is not quite as red toned in real life (my camera hates orange polish, sorry!) The color IRL is closer to what you see in the bottle in the photos below.

Mourning Glory is a black creme. This is most likely a renamed Black Onyx. I love Black Onyx but the mini brush strikes again...I had issues with this. For any color other than a black the formula would be nice but for black usually if it's not a 1 coater I'm not interested haha! I used 2 coats of Mourning Glory for the photos below.

Check out the super cute packaging, I love the sugar skull!

Here are the decals that came with the mini set. I haven't tried them yet (saving them for Halloween) but they are awesome looking!

Unfortunately, I'm not sure of the official release date for this mini set. I found this at a non chain beauty supply. Hopefully it will be available at official OPI retailers like Ulta soon!

I agree! The packaging is super cute! I love the colors too. I wish the OPI minis were a bit bigger. I like China Glaze minis as I don't feel as though I'm wasting. I also love your swatches! I hope you get the Germany collection so I can see you swatch those!

  3. Not really impressed with this set. Though I love the sugar skulls and polish names! The OPI minis are too mini if you ask me.

  4. I love the pink and yellow! Too bad about the problems with the brush though. >_<

I, too, am a sucker for packaging and decals so I'm sure I'm going to end up picking up this Halloween set. I agree, the minis are a total PITA but they're so little and cute looking! I like that they're not going a traditional Halloween theme this year and doing
Dia De Los Muertos instead. Very cool!

Beautiful packaging and nice colors ^^ I love OPI mini's, but the tiny brush is really a pain to use :( Thanks for reviewing those, I really wanted to see them swatched :)

  8. Love the orange and yellow! I'll totally buy this if I can get my hands on it. The decals are really cute too!

  9. Cute and basic, but the stickers are what "make" the kit :) Thanks for the great swatches!

  10. Aw. I always look forward to the glow in the dark polish in the OPI Halloween sets. Super disappointing! I don't care for any of these. I have Need Sunglasses already and the orange reminds me of Jack's Back from another Halloween set I have (the one with Boo Berry). Oh well! The China Glaze Halloween one's look much cooler.

  11. Those are really pretty, I would not usually have expected the pink, but once I saw the sugar skull decals it made a lot of sense. If it weren't for those decals I'd have really missed a nice bright green.
I totally agree in re brushes. The OPI minis have really horrible ones. Plenty of brands manage to have decent brushes in 3-5 ml bottles.

  13. The pink looks like That's Hot! Pink to me

  14. I wish I had that to compare it to so we'd know for sure!

  15. I have them both - it's definately That's Hot! Pink and the yellow is indeed Need Sunglasses. the orange is Osaka. All dupes but I stil bought it.

  16. I just want the stickers!

  17. I can easily save $ here - not one of 'em do I need or even want! But least they are not so trend of the 2 day Halloween fest that you never would wear 'em again. I get really tired of all the Halloween hype stuff that is total trash a day later. Sad that these look like a couple re-issues.

  18. I was going to get all rage-y because this collection isn't tying into Halloween but Dia de Los Muertos and then I looked up the dates for Dia de Los Muertos: November 1 and 2rd. My shoe's tasting really good right now, lol. I wish OPI would stop re-naming colors and throwing them into these literal mini-collections to try to separate us from more money--I hate those teeny-tiny 5mL OPI bottles and their microscopic brushes.

  19. haha the packaging is cute! i like the pink polish.

  20. You're right.....you are a sucker. But they have an excellent marketing department. I hate the minis also. You did a fabulous job with what you had to work with. I always enjoy and appreciate your ability to overcome the drawbacks. Nice colors but usually if the colors are worth it, a full size is a much better bet. I'm a sucker for sticker too!

  21. Thank you so much. Now I'm searching for Osaka :)

  22. I dont feel the halloween on it, but the stickers are cool

  23. The only polish of this collection that I like is the pink one. The rest doesn't really do it for me.

  24. I like the decals!
You know, the code on the bottom of OPI's is a colour code... So if you want to know if the colour is a repromote, just look at the codes! That's how I found out that the white and the black ones in the last 2 Halloween sets were Alpine Snow and Black Onyx and so forth.
If you don't have the original bottle to compare it with: on the OPI website, you can see 'swatches' of all colours on a hand, right? Well above the hand and under the name of the colour is listed the colour code... Hope this helps.:)

Sweet! I saw a post yesterday about an OPI 007 collection coming out in October. It looks awesome too! It's gonna be a great fall for lacquer! (And my first fall as a polish addict!)

  28. The stickers are cute but I'm not into any of the polishes, I dont like the mini polishes either.

  29. OMG, I love these colors! Beautiful... And the names are so funny. ;)

  30. The pink definitely reminds me of If You Moust You Moust and Shorts Story...

    ReplyDelete
  31. Actually then again, maybe not lol. This one is a bit more hot pink xD

  32. Got it on ebay for a decent price. Could not pass up the sugar skull lol

  34. a couple of years late but I'll try anyway:

I'm wanting to buy a lot of the minis sets, simply because I dont use enough polish to get through the entire bottle - and it's a shame (I'd rather spend an extra $2-3 and get 4 colors :) )

anyway, I wanted to ask - how similar are the Outrageous Neons, and the So Skullicious?
they colors seem pretty much alike (I wonder if they're even more alike without the white coat underneath?), except for the purple/black.
    what's your input on this?

BTW - I love your blog! I spend hours on it =)

    ReplyDelete
  35. I'm not sure how similar it is, I don't own it anymore :( sorry!
