Saturday Spam: Girly Bits

Hi guys! Happy weekend! Today I have a bit of spam from one of my favorite indie brands to share with you...it's Girly Bits! I've been getting a tad bit burnt out on indies lately but then I got this package in the mail and hyperventilated a little, it completely reminded me why I love indies so much! Top see all the swatches click the read more button below the collage!

Arctic Sunrise is a light sky blue with duochrome pink shimmer. When I saw this it reminded me of Sinful Color Cinderella which scared me a little because I wanted so badly to love that polish and it turned out to be disappointing. My worry was pointless because this polish is awesome, it's pretty much everything I wanted Cinderella to be! The formula was a little thick but easy to work with, it did start out a little sheer...I used 3 coats for full opacity! The shimmer was easily visible both in sunlight and in low light!

Shade

Banana Hammock is a gorgeous yellow with a green shimmer! I love yellow polish so I was instantly excited about this, especially because the shimmer looked awesome in the bottle. Unfortunately the shimmer didn't translate onto the nail very well...it was a little bit visible in direct sunlight but even then it wasn't all that noticeable. It does give the polish nice depth and it's different than any other yellow I have! The formula was good, again on the thick side but easy to apply. It was not streaky which is a nice change for a yellow! I used 3 coats for the photos below.

Shade

Cu Blue is a dark blue jelly with copper shimmer. If you like blue and copper you need this in your life, it's so beautiful! The formula was really nice, it looked good at 2 coats but I ended up going with three for full opacity. I do wish the shimmer came out a little bit more but this is gorgeous!

Shade

Daddy's Little Girl is sapphire blue, sky blue, purple and fuschia glitter in a blue tinted base. I'm loving this combo of glitter! The formula was easy to work with and the glitter payoff was awesome! I used 1 coat of Daddy's Little Girl over Cu Blue for the photos below! All 3 photos are in the shade.

Glo Worm is a neon lime green with a golden shimmer. This sucker was blinding out in the sunlight, perfect for summer! I didn't really love the formula here, it was a little thick and very sheer. I ended up using 4 coats and I could still see a bit of visible nail line. This is one that would be best for layering! The shimmer is noticeable both in sunlight and in low light!

Shade

You might want some sunglasses before you look at this sun photo haha!

Hocus Pocus is a holographic top coat. Naturally, I've felt the need the layer this over everything I wear now haha! This does slightly change the base color but not so much that you can't tell what it is. I have a rack on the desk I do my nails at and the first row is top coats and things I always use like black & white to layer over etc... I also have a couple of my favorite polishes to layer over things and this was instantly added to it! As always with holos, this is much better in person!

Below is 2 coats of Hocus Pocus over OPI Alpine Snow

Here is 1 coat of Hocus Pocus over OPI Chocolate Moose

Below is 1 coat of Hocus Pocus over OPI Jade Is The New Black. This was my favorite combo (so far!)

Finally, below is 1 coats of Hocus Pocus over OPI All A-Bordeaux The Sled!

Jelly Shoes is a hot pink jelly with duochrome pink/purple shimmer. Fact: I tried to find my jelly shoes from when I was little to include with this post because of this polish. I used to live in shoes like that when I was a kid haha! The formula was a bit on the thick and sheer side like Glo Worm. I used 4 coats to get it fully opaque, this is one I would layer next time! The shimmer was extremely visible both in sunlight and in low light!

Mother May I is described by Pam from Girly Bits as a medium purple base with aqua squares, red squares, blue, turquoise, pink, purple, opal, and aqua hexes in various sizes.  The formula was on the thick side but it was nice and opaque. I would recommend waiting a few minutes between coats though, I had a problem with dragging because I was impatient. Patience is a virtue with this one! I used 2 coats for the photos below.

I realize in the photos it looks like the red squares are curling but they were flat to the nail, I think it's just the way the purple base is going over the squares making them appear curled.

Shade

Wet Bikini is a mix of aqua, blue and opalescent glitter in a clear base. Look at all the square glitter, Kirsten from Glitta Gloves would love this polish...is it weird that whenever I get a glitter with a lot of squares I think of her, maybe slightly creepy? I used 1 coat of Wet Bikini over Arctic Sunrise for the photos below. I am a bit obsessed with this combo and the way the shimmer from Arctic Sunrise peeks out. The formula of Wet Bikini was nice, it was easy to get a lot of glitter on the brush and no dabbing or glitter placing was needed! All photos below are in the shade.

Also a small rave here for good customer service, I feel like a lot of the time people only want to talk about the negative things with indies but not this time! A while back I bought Vive La Revolution from Llarowe. I posted it in one of my indie swatch spams a while back and Pam emailed me saying that it looked like my red glitter was bleeding due to a bad batch of glitter she had received. I didn't notice it at the time since the bleeding wasn't very bad. When I checked my bottle she was right, it had gotten much worse between the time I swatched it and when she emailed me. Pam replaced the bottle no questions asked, it's a nice change to have a polish with bleeding glitter replaced instead of being told it was "intentional" which seems to be what some people are doing lately.

In case you were wondering what the bleeding version looks like next to the non-bleeding version here is a photo! I like looking at photos like this, maybe I'm weird haha. Big thank you to Pam for being so fantastic!

Girly Bits is available directly from Pam in her Big Cartel store here. You can also find it at Llarowe and  Harlow & Co! Depending on where you buy the price ranges from $10-$13!

Steve says that he hopes you have a good weekend...we've adopted this little stinker. We tried unsuccessfully to find him a home and then I got attached...he's got me wrapped around his little claw! This is how he sleeps in the backyard while I'm out there taking all these nail polish photos!

  8. These are great, and I love the names! Very nostalgic. It's so funny to me that a woman named Pam has a polish company named Girly Bits, because my name is also Pam and I referenced the vajay-jay as "girly bits", and then a bunch of my girlfriends started calling it that, too. Lol.

  14. All of them are gorgeous! I was also disappointed with Cinderella, and Arctic Sunrise seems like a much more beautiful alternative! The comment about "intentional" bleeding glitter made me laugh!

  19. I layered Sally Hansen Diamond Strength "Glass Slippers" over SC Cinderella (I HAD to, I'm a Disney nerd) and it looks very much like Arctic Sunrise... just a thought, as an alternative if you can't get the Girly Bits!

  24. I totally did an out loud "AWWWWWWWEEE!" when I saw the pic of your new kitty! So super cute! :D I hope you have many happy furry years together!

*\o/* HUGE cheers to Pam for being so awesome! *\o/* When glitter bleeds it's a very, very sad day. Looking at the bottle with the bleeding red glitter...the poor white glitter looks like what happens when you accidentally toss something red in with a load of white laundry. Big murky pink-ish yuck. :P

I am trying to imagine a situation where I would want glitter to bleed and...nope, I can't think of one. I see my polish collection as something I will enjoy for many, many years. *eyes just under 2000 bottles in ridiculous stash* I love the fact that we can "revive" older polishes with Seche Restore/Poshe Reviver/Orly Thinner/etc. It makes me feel good to know that polish is good to the last drop even if it sits around for years and years. But when glitter bleeds... *shudders* It's like the polish is decomposing and there is no Restore/Reviver/Thinner/etc. for that. And it will only get worse. Depressing. Another depressing thought: I imagine 95% of the people who are buying 'indie polishes' as being collectors (a.k.a., people with large stashes in the 100's to 1000's of polishes). This pretty much guarantees a very slow use of all of those bottles of polish over a long period of time and if the glitter is bleeding...oh man, it will turn into a congealed mess before the person can even use it twice. I'm sorry to go on and on but bleeding glitter makes me really sad.

So once again... *\o/* Standing ovation and huge cheers to Pam for spotting the bleeding glitter, correcting the formula, and replacing the bottle! *\o/* That is awesome. :D

And now for the OMG/WOW/DROOL part of my comment, lol! XD I am *dying* over Arctic Sunrise! OMG the photo in the shade made me do one of these: O.O It's everything I wanted Cinderella to be AND THEN SOME! Those sparkles are beyond beautiful and I love the contrast! *SWOON* :D Hocus Pocus just jumped to the top of my wish list - thank you so much for showing it over so many colors! Dude. I think my heart skipped a beat when I saw it over OPI JitNB! *drools* Wet Bikini = awesomesauce! I too am a square glitter lover. I can't help it. I see square glitter and I'm like, MUST HAZ!

Sorry for the ridiculously long comment. *kinda embarrassed* But when I saw the bleed-y bottle of Vive La Revolution next to the good bottle and read what you wrote about people *intentionally* using bleeding glitter...I just had to share my thoughts. It would make me supremely bummed out to get a polish that I love and then have the glitter bleed. *can't...comprehend...why use glitter that bleeds...???* >.<

Awesome post as always and my apologies again for the marathon comment! XD

  27. Hocus Pocus is a real miracle :) I showed some photos with it in a Russian nail polish community, and readers were especially excited about its combination with white. Here it is, if you wonder: http://nail-ru.livejournal.com/2343367.html
(in Russian, yes, but I hope the photos more or less speak for themselves)
