Sally Hansen Lustre Shine Lava +a comparison!

Hi guys! Happy Hump Day...we're half done with the work week, yay! Before I get into the polish today I wanted to let you guys know about a little interview I did with a website called Inspirationail a little while back! The interview went live on their site yesterday, I'm pretty excited about it! The interview was so fun to do, you can check it out over on Inspirationail's site here if you'd like to!

Today I have one of the new Sally Hansen Lustre Shine polishes to share with you guys! At first I wrote this collection off, I love duochromes and multichomes and I love that they are all of a sudden the it thing for polish companies to put out, but I feel like they all keep putting out the same colors and it's getting boring. Like seriously, if I see another Peridot dupe my head might explode. I ended up picking up Lava because everyone was saying it was a dupe to one of my all time favorite polishes, Bad Fairy from Mac. Of course, I had to see for myself so I went on the hunt for it. More on if it's a Bad Fairy dupe below!

Lava on it's own is really gorgeous, the color shifts from pink to orange to gold. The shift was strong indoors, outside in direct sunlight and in the shade, gotta love that!  The formula was a little sheer, but that's par for the course with polishes like this so it was expected. I used 3 coats of Lava on it's own for full opacity. You could definitely layer this if you wanted to, it would look amazing over black!

Below is Lava vs. Mac Bad Fairy. I feel like everyone was yelling THESE ARE DUPES from the rooftops. Sorry guys, hate to be the bearer of bad news...they aren't :( They are actually more different than I though they would be. The base color of Lava is much more orangey, the shimmer is also much finer in Lava. The biggest difference is the color shift, I love Bad Fairy but the shift in Lava is about a thousand times better. While these aren't dupes they are definitely like step sisters, if you missed out on Bad Fairy it's a great (maybe even better!) alternative for it!

I used 3 coats of Lava and 3 coats of Bad Fairy for the photos below.

Sally Hansen Lustre Shine polishes are available at drugstores now, I found mine at Rite Aid but I've also seen them at Walgreens locally! Mac Bad Fairy is unfortunately long gone and hard to find unless you want to spend a small fortune for it on ebay.

  7. I picked up Crystal Beading yesterday- these are so gorgeous in person! And Crystal Beading is so pretty over black. I'll probably go back for a few more, including this one!

  12. Yay! I was so sad that I missed out on bad fairy, but now I have Lava! I do love this polish, pictures don't do it justice! The lustre bottles are a smaller size than the standard 0.5oz, so I picked up a back up bottle... Kinda thinking about getting a third, is that crazy?

  15. love it! i put it on my nails the second i got home with it. i don't have Bad Fairy (always wanted it) but i like Lava so much more now. even my co-workers noticed the shift without even grabbing my hands to look at it (like they normally do). so yea, it's an obvious duo

  16. I'm wondering if you could tell us how this compares to Glitter Gal Fiery Furnace? To my eye Lava may be a bit pinker than Fiery Furnace. Lava is absolutely stunning on you!

  18. I love this color! I decided to layer it over OPI - Dutch Ya Just Love OPI? and it's gorgeous! Still very duochrome but with a brighter magenta color.

  20. I found that they are closer dupes when Lava is layered on black, but yes--there are differences in finish and Lava has a stronger shift. I still love both, and I think if I had Lava when I was pining for Bad Fairy, I'd be pretty satisfied (plus, Bad Fairy comes with MAC's notorious brush...blech! Mine was decanted into a better bottle/brush almost immediately).

  22. Just found it at Walgreens for $8.99 but it looks like two other polishes I have, one being Wild & Willing by Color Club, but can't remember the name of the other one.

  23. I need this NOW! lol right when I chopped off my nails to rock my favorite vampy colors! That always happens. In the summer I want to wear fall shades and in the fall I want to wear bright colors.
