Essie Fall 2012 Stylenomics Collection Swatches

Hi guys! Today I have Essie's Fall 2012 Stylenomics Collection to share with you! I saw this a couple weeks ago at Target and completely passed on it but then I saw it again at my local supply store and decided to pick it up...self control be dammed! The Stylenomics Collection is 6 creme polishes, I love basic cremes so I think that's why I ended up getting suckered into buying these haha! To see swatches of each shade click the read more button below!

Don't Sweater It is a light tan-ish brown creme. The formula was pretty excellent, definitely my favorite of the collection in that department. It was a little bit thick but in a good way, not in a hard to work with kind of way. I used 1 coat for the photos below!

Head Mistress is a red creme. Unique, no, but it's a nice red. I feel like I'll be grabbing for something like this more towards the holidays though. The formula was really nice, I used 2 coats for the photos below.

Miss Fancy Pants is a light greige. I feel like I haven't gotten to say greige in a while, I love made up words lol! I'm sure that I have something similar to this already but I haven't had time to look through my stash. The formula was again, really great! I used 2 coats for the photos below.

Recessionista is a dark burgundy red. This is usually the kind of red I grab for during Fall, it's nice and vampy but not so vampy that it looks black. The formula was great, I used 2 coats!

Shade
Apologies for the cloud reflections in the photo below, the clouds were refusing to go away so I could take a photo of this (how rude), at least it gives you a nice idea of how shiny Recessionista dries lol!

Skirting The Issue is a wine red. This is a bit of a cross between a jelly and a creme, a crelly.  The formula left something to be desired. It was one of those fun ones where globs of polish drip from lord knows where off the brush onto the nail in the middle of polishing. I also had problems with this wanting to flood my cuticles. On top of that it was also patchy and needed 3 coats to mostly even out. I think this would probably be best with 4 thin coats but I was so annoyed after 3 coats that I left it at that.

Stylenomics is a very dark green creme according to Essie. There are strong blue/grey undertones in this. It's a lot like the other dark greens we've seen for Fall from OPI and Zoya but not as grey toned. I am a little disappointed by this because on the display and in promo photos it looked much more green, on me I hardly see green...maybe my eyeballs are broken? Who knows, maybe it just hates my skin tone and it'll pull more towards green on other people. I guess I just like greens that look more green if you know what I mean. The formula was great, I used 2 coats for the photos below.

Overall, I kinda wish I had gone with my first instinct and passed on this collection. Sure there are some pretty shades but overall it's kind of a snooze fest. My picks are none of them, sorry guys but none of them dazzle me enough to say you need them.

The Stylenomics Collection is available now, I've seen it locally at Target and Ulta! Essie retails for around $8 depending on where you buy it!

  1. I'm wearing stylenomics right now and it looks green to me, but it definitely doesn't like to be photographed. Annoying, because I love this colour.

  2. Truthfully, I felt the same way about this collection after seeing it in person. Count me as not impressed!

  3. I was underwhelmed by this collection when I first saw it but I recently saw it in person at my local wholesale nail supplier and almost picked up Don't Sweater It and Miss Fancy Pants- but I restrained myself. I love colors like these but I think I have too many of them already.

  4. I've been seeing these out and they haven't grabbed me. Your pictures are awesome, of course...but they still don't grab me. The only one that slightly tempted me was Stylenomics, but I prefer my greys to have less of a green cast to actually, Either way, it's nice to see Essie continue to be comfortable with expanding their color range, they really do have a great formula most of the time!

  5. My first impressions were similar to yours, but i might be tempted by Don't Sweater It if its a one coater! Great review x x x

  6. I've been waiting for you to post your review of this collection, thank you! I agree with you, the shades aren't anything that we've haven't already seen before. But I always appreciate a creme collection. I'm also a sucker for red cremes, Head Mistress is gorg. I will pick up Skirting The Issue and Stylenomics.

  7. what does Miss Fancy Pants look like compared with Chinchilly?

  8. Sweater and Fancy Pants were gone from the only place in my town that sells polish. I went looking on line for what I missed and thought ...ummmh...these look like a dozen others I have seen for yrs now. The other shades in this collection have been sitting there almost untouched for weeks now which is odd as typically new polish is picked over super fast with us only having the 1 drug store to shop at without driving 30 miles. I am a sucker also for good red creams - but I passed on Head MIstress 'cause I knew I had a bunch like it from both Zoya and OPI. As I am so bloated now in my stash, I am a lot more picky on what I pick up (most of the time - we all have our weak moments).

  9. I do love a good creme. I am liking all but the darker red and the plum, those remind me of the late 1990's when I was a counter manager at Lancome haha! That was the sort of stuff we wore on lips and nails all the time. I could see myself picking up the greys, because I am late to the grey bandwagon and only in the last year-ish have been obsessed with them.

  10. I would like to see Sweater on a comparison - thinking it's a lot like Chinchilly and a few other Essies.

  11. I saw these in person yesterday and I also wasn't impressed. I ended up getting yesterday's Essence color and I found dive bar! I might pick up don't sweater it...I liked ur swatch and if it's a one coater it may be worth a shot :)

  12. I love this collection because it is not trying too hard to reinvent itself. it is the kind of classic cremes that essie has always done best. Leave the holographic bling and neon to other polish makers, please Essie. I got the mini set(all 4 except Recessionista and Fancy Pants) but I think I like Recessionista best and need to go back for that one.

  13. Hmm... well there are a few polishes I might have to look closer at. I got nothing like them in my stash right now. :)

  14. I was thinking Miss Fancy Pants looked like Chinchilly. Somebody do that comparison. :) Chinchilly is still one my favorite colors of all time.

Nice colours, perfect for the Fall, but nothing very new. Anyway, beautiful pictures as usual, thanks ^^

  18. I was going to mention the same thing, Chinchilly & Sweater. Unfortunately this collection doesn't wow me, Essie has somewhat similar pretty colors though.

  19. Wow, it'd be interesting to see how close Stylenomics is to OPI Nein! Nein! Nein! oK Fine! I was surprised by how much green NNNOKF showed when I wore it this week.

  20. Stylenemics looks pretty but indeed, nothing exciting.

  21. Totally agree with you. This collection is not going to be what I pick off the shelves this fall. I might make an exception for Miss Fancy Pants.

  22. I bought Head Mistress (on eBay) and i think it has been labelled wrong. In all the swatches i've seen it looks like a gorgeous candy apple red, but the bottle i've got looks more like Skirting the Issue. I wonder if anyone else has found this or if it's just that the swatches look different on screen... Not sure. I'm going to wait and see when they appear in my local shop and compare them.

  24. I was disappointed by this "green" too, when I`ve got it. it`s really black(

  25. You hit the nail on the head - this collection, while there are some nice shades...is meh in the end. I wanted Head Mistress and Miss Fancy Pants just for the names, lol, but I decided not to get them because my untrieds number in the 100's at this point. *hangs head in shame* The only one I got was Stylenomics because the silly collector in me feels like *must buy every green Essie makes!* Man, I am disappointed. Especially after seeing the delicious deep green color dripping from the bottle on the display. It looks murky blah black-ish. And colors that are black-ish and/or indistinguishable from black unless intensely scrutinized = top of the list of things my stash doth not need. Gah, I have so many of them! >.<

I definitely preferred the end of summer/'other fall collection' by Essie, Yogaga. I only got one color from it (Boxer Shorts) and it's really an amazing shade. It's like Revlon Modern Grace but crisper and more vibrant. LOVE it!!! I would have picked up a few more shades if my local nail supply would have gotten Yogaga but it seems this was possibly a retail only collection. :/

  26. I love this collection! I know they're very conservative colours, but I like that. I don't get much use out of 'out there' colours, so for me this would be great value for money.
    xx

  27. Meh, I don't see anything that says I've "gotta have it". I liked Skirting the Issue, but not after reading your comments of that one. Oh Essie, why oh why, is this $8 a bottle of polish such a poor formula? And boring colors too...

  28. Great :) Don't you think that Miss Fancy Pants really looks like Berlin There Done That from the Germany collection of OPI ?
