Saturday Spam: OPI (Part 1)

Happy Weekend! Anyone have big plans for this weekend? I plan on staying inside in the AC because it's apparently going to be like 100 degrees here, gotta love So Cal and our endless summer. I was actually thinking about going to LA this weekend but I don't want to deal with Carmageddon so I'm staying away. Don't you love when the news gives the dumbest names ever to stupid crap like a freeway being closed for the weekend, I love you LA...you're so ridiculous and amazing, please never change.

Anyway, today I have a massive spam like whoa for you guys. OPI is probably brand I own the most of and also the brand that I have the most un posted polishes from. Today I have 24 polishes to spam you with, I'm sure I still have twice this many to swatch for future spam posts...my fingers cry thinking of this haha! I suggest grabbing a snack before clicking the read more button under the gigantor collage below.

P.S. the post behind the cut is VERY picture heavy, many apologies if it takes a billion years to load.

P.P.S. some of the polishes in this post are old and hard to find...some are even very hard to find. Some may cause you to pass out if you search them on ebay and see the price. I know there are folks out there on the internets that don't like seeing pretty things that they can't easily go find in store or online but the whole point of my Saturday Spam posts are for me to swatch my entire stash...hope you won't hate me too much :)

A Ruby For Rudolph is a shimmery red. Fun fact...I found this at Nordstrom Rack about a year ago. Sometimes you find random old polishes like this at the weirdest stores...if you have a Nordstrom Rack near you try looking for OPI there, I've found several HTF's! I used 2 coats for the photos below, also I'm very sad that the shimmer in this doesn't translate to photo as amazing as it actually is :(

Berry Berry Broadway is a medium red with a golden shimmer. Pretty sure I found this on the same Nordstrom Rack trip as A Ruby For Rudolph above and I bought it because I had never heard of it. I used 2 coats for the photos below.

Black Tie Optional is a subtle duochrome that goes from burgundy to gold. This is a VHTF, seriously don't look it up on ebay...it's one that will make you pass out from the ridiculousness people sell it for. Luckily for me a wonderful reader named Adria gifted this to me about a year and a half ago (Thank you Adria!!) The duochrome is very subtle but this is a polish I will always love! I used 3 coats for the photos below.

DS Classic is a nude holo. Remember the days when OPI DS=awesome...they were great, I miss those days. This is one of the weaker DS holos but still fantastic! I used 2 coats for the photos below.

DS Coronation is a silver scattered holo. This is one that I still seem to find in stores, yay for that! However the formula was a bit of a nightmare, not sure if I have a weird bottle or what but I needed 4 coats and it was still patchy...this is probably best for layering.

Dim Sum Plum is a purple toned fuschia creme. Good basic, I do love this color...it's flattering on my skin tone! The formula was all kinds of fantastical...almost a 1 coater! I ended up using 2 coats but the second was hardly needed!

Do You Lilac It? is a light lilac purple. This is one of my all time favorite lilac's, one of the polishes I even have a back up of! I used 2 coats for the photos below.

Done Out In Deco is a light greyed out purple. I've owned this for gosh...probably like 3 years and swatching it for this post was the first time I've used it...what the heck man! I need to actually wear this because I love it! I used 2 coats for the photos below!

Extra-va-vaganza! is a multicolored glitter bomb, the colors I see in it are orange, green, silver, pink, gold, and blue. I'm sure there are more though! This is nice both layered and on it's own, it is a little thick so I don't love wearing it on it's own. I used 1 coat over OPI In My Back Pocket for the photos below.

Shade

Gargantuan Green Grape Matte is a light green with a matte finish. I hate this polish, love the color though. This is also available in non-matte form from OPI and I would suggest that one instead, I'm not sure how the formula is but I really can't imagine it being any worse than this. I used 2 very careful coats for the photos below.  This was so awful in person, all lumpy and chalky looking...no bueno.

Glacier Bay Blues is a green/purple/blue duochrome. This is another HTF that I found at Nordstrom Rack! This was on my wishlist for so long, I about died when I found it. It did not disappoint on the nail...I love this! I used 3 coats for the photos below.

Here Today Aragon Tomorrow is a very dark nearly black green with a subtle shimmer. My bottle was surprisingly sheer and watery...I'm not sure if that's because I frankened with it and only have about 1/3 of my bottle left or if that's how it was when I got it too. I used 3 coats for the photos below.

I Juggle Men is a shimmery top coat kind of polish. The shimmer is blue/purple/pink. I love this in the bottle but it's a bit meh on the nail. It also has issues with Seche Vite...when I got this I used that top coat over it and no joke the whole nail of polish wrinkled up and peeled off, I've never experienced anything like that before. I used 2 coats over Here Today Aragon Tomorrow for the photos below, both photos are in the shade.

In My Back Pocket is an orange creme. In real life it's not quite as bright as my camera was making it out to be. This is a good Halloween orange, I think! I used 3 coats for the photos below.

Louvre Me Louvre Me Not is a red toned purple with red/blue/purple shimmer. Another Nordstrom Rack find...I seriously think I must have swatched every polish I found there for this post haha! I used 2 coats for the photos below.

Midnight Blue Glitter is a sheer charcoal grey base with silver, charcoal and bright blue glitter. If you like glitter you need this, that's all I'm saying. It is sheer on it's own (I used 4 coats for the photos) but it's one I usually layer over a grey when I wear it.  Photos do not do this justice.

Shade

Out Of This World is a kind of orangey butterscotch color....I can't think of any other way to describe this. It's one of those weird almost ugly colors I love so much. I'm sure sure this is old and probably hard to find, I don't even remember where I got it. I used 2 coats for the photos below.

Pamplona Purple is a gorgeous red toned purple creme. Not much to say about this, it's a great basic if you're building up your stash! I used 2 coats for the photos below.

Sapphire In The Snow is a dark purple toned blue. Depending on the light this can go either way between blue and purple. I think this is hard to find now but it's got plenty of close dupes like Essie No More Film and Zoya Pinta. I used 2 coats for the photos below.

Show It And Glow It  is another multicolored glitter bomb, I see purple, silver, red, gold, green and blue. I used 1 coat over Louvre Me Louvre Me Not for the photos below.

Thanks So Muchness is a bright shimmery red. This was the only polish I bought from the Alice In Wonderland Collection back when it came out...oh how I kick myself for that now :( I've managed to get my paws on Absolutely Alice but I'm pretty sure I will never own Mad As A Hatter. I used 2 coats for the photos below.

We'll Always Have Paris (Suede) is a purplish pink with a heavy silver shimmer that dries matte. Damn, I love the OPI Suedes...they are fantastical. I used ONE COAT for the photos below and it dried in like 30 seconds...why can't all nail polish be like this?!?

Wing It! is a pink with a duochrome-y pink/purple shimmer. I'd like to call the photos below a happy accident. I had Wing It and Thanks So Muchness sitting next to each other and wondered what would happen if I layered them. I knew I'd layer Wing It since I don't like it on it's own but I had no idea this combo would be so great! If you have both of these please layer them...you won't be disappointed. I used 2 coats of Wing It!  over Thanks So Muchness for the photos below.

Last but not least, probably the most famous OPI ever. I think this is that one polish that everyone and their Mom and Grandma has. You Don't Know Jacques is a brown taupe. Classic OPI, a billion dupes but who cares. I used 2 coats for the photos below.

Well, I am exhausted...if you made it through this whole post I applaud you. Like I mentioned at the beginning of the post several of the polishes posted are old and hard to find. You can however still find some of them in stores like Ulta, Beauty Brands, JC Penney etc...

Have a great weekend everyone!

  1. The price for Black Tie must have gone down - looks like it's $23-30 on eBay now.

  2. I really love your swatches and the colours are pretty, but luckily for my wallet, none of it made my wishlist.

  5. I shelled out £20 for the Alice minis just so I could have Mad as a Hatter but I actually fell for Off with her Red. It looks like Tomato soup!

  14. I live for your spam posts!!!!!! I get to see all the great polishes that I missed out on. Thank you for all your hard work. Btw....I just snatched up Glacier Bays Blues off EBay....it was too bad in price and it had free shipping so that was a plus. There were a few posts for Black Tie Optional. Yikes!!!!!

  15. I love OPI & I love that you did this spam post. I know some of their collections are boring, but there is always something I could buy...it's why that drawer in my helmer is the biggest haha!

  17. I love your Saturday spam posts, don't ever change them!! And I don't mind that I may never be able to find or own any of these, it's nice to see what's out there and maybe for the really hard to find ones there will be dupes in the future. And I totally get wanting to post your collection, what's the point in hoarding all of these polishes if they will never be shown? My favourites are We'll Always Have Paris and Midnight Blue Glitter.

If anyone is interested, a blog I follow on Tumblr is having a blog sale and selling Black Tie Optional for $15, along with some other older OPIs. I don't know this person nor have I ever bought anything from her, but I thought I'd just pass the information along. http://jyjnp.tumblr.com/blogsale

  20. Don't give up on finding Mad As A Hatter. I managed to find a bottle on ebay about three weeks ago and only paid £10 for it. I had been looking for ages and just hit it right, so keep searching!

    ReplyDelete
  21. Great Post! I the majority of these too! Honestly, at this point, I just buy all OPI releases, I never know if I'll end up kicking myself later for not buying them, when I'm contemplating shelling out 15$ or more for a bottle I could have gotten cheaper....

    ReplyDelete
  22. I passed up Dim Sum Plum at Nordstrom Rack the other day. Might have to go back and get it.

  23. I just looked up Mad As a Hatter too......why why oh why did I do that!!!!!! Then I went to Evil Bay to see their jacked up prices and my jaw hit the floor.....Ca RAY ZEE! Does anyone know if there is a good dupe out there?

  24. Thanks for all the great swatches! I love seeing so much polishes together <3.

  26. Gorgeous spam! Thanks so much for sharing. Now I wish I had a Nordstrom Rack. I don't think Here Today...Aragon tomorrow is just you. My bottle is brand new and it's also watery and sheer. Not a fave, and I didn't even notice the shimmer!

Glacier Bay Blues is one of my biggest lemmings! Black Tie Optional is one that I've been lucky to come across twice. Once at a salon for $9, and once at a flea market for $1! I almost cried tears of joy, and happily gifted the second bottle to a polish loving friend.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Absolutely Alice and Mad as a Hatter were the beginning of my polish obsession. I remember thinking they were so expensive @ the time but I'm glad I snatched them up!

  31. I own the non matte version of Gargantuan Green Grape and I hate it. I don't reccomend anyone buying it. Very pretty color, but crappy formula.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Woo hoo, swatch mania! I loved all of them. Sounds like I need to pay a visit to Nordstrom Rack!

    ReplyDelete
  33. Have you ever done a post on how you paint your nails? They always look so perfect. Any tips?

    ReplyDelete
  34. My bottles of "I Juggle...Men" and "Here Today, Aragon Tomorrow" are as bad as yours. Something is really wrong in the state of OPI there.

    ReplyDelete
  35. That was the most epic awesomeness of a post! So many OPIs in one post. :D

    ReplyDelete
  36. I forgot about Nordstrom Rack for polish! They are awesome for makeup, too.

    ReplyDelete
  37. love! I think I own about half of those!

    ReplyDelete
  38. Some have problems with I Juggle...Men and Seche Vite, while others don't have problem with it. I am reposting what some have said on a facebook group (Ask Cathy!). Try using 3 free top coat (Poshe was suggested) when using IJM, or sandwich it between a 3 free top coat. Others put SV, then waited a day to put IJM and had no problems, and someone else put SV, then IJM, and then SV again but they let each coat dry completely.

    ReplyDelete
  39. My bottle of I Juggle... Men did EXACTLY the same when I put Seche on top! Very annoying...

  40. I would LOVE to get my hands on We'll Always Have Paris Suede! I LOVE OPI Suede's. I only own Russian Navy and You Don't Know Jacques in the suede's, but I love them. And RN is my go to in a hurry mani (like I need to leave in 5 minutes) since it's a one coater and dries lightning fast. Great post!

    ReplyDelete
  41. Of course I've been looking for color like Out of This World for the last 3 months! There literally is nothing like it!

    ReplyDelete
  42. Out of this World looks super similar to China Glaze Life Preserver, although I don't know if they are dupes since I don't own OOTW.

    ReplyDelete
  43. 1) you have the bestttttt spam posts
    2) I have never found a HTF OPI at Nord. Rack but now I'm on a mission!
    3) Sapphire In The Snow is def. a HTF! I wanted it so bad and searched high low for it, even on ebay, with no luck. Then one day I was going through my sister's polishes and found it. I went crazy about so she gifted it to me! :D

    ReplyDelete
  44. Glacier Bay Blues is one of my all-time favorites! It's one of my go-to's. Luckily I fell in love with it when it first came out and I stocked up with about 5 bottles. ;)
