China Glaze Holiday 2012 Holiday Joy Collection: My Picks!

Hi guys! Today I have my picks from the China Glaze Holiday Joy Collection for Holiday 2012 to share with you! I saw these at a local beauty supply a couple weeks ago and picked up most of the collection. There are 4 that I do not have swatches of, all 4 are red and they just didn't do anything for me so they stayed at the store. I'm sure about a billion other blogs will have swatches of them soon, if not already, if you're interested in seeing them also!

I usually really like what China Glaze does for Holiday every year and these are no exception, if you like glitters like I do I think you'll really like this collection also! Check out all the swatches after the jump!

Angel Wings is a golden glitter with a ton of small holo glitter mixed in. This polish is awesome, it's a dupe of Ultamate Holiday which was an Ulta Exclusive last year...that polish was one of my 2011 favorites and I'm just as in love with it now as I was then. If you missed Ultamate Holiday go grab this! To see Angel Wings side by side with Ultamate Holiday please check out this post. The formula was okay on this, it was a little thicker than I personally care for so I thinned it a bit, now it's perfect! I used 3 coats for the photos below.

Shade
Blue Bells Ring is an icy blue foil. This is the only non-glitter I picked up from the collection. I love blue foils and this is another great one.  It does remind me a lot of Color Club Cold Metal, I can't find my bottle of that Color Club but going off my photos I think Blue Bells Ring has a little more silver in it. The formula was pretty much awesome, a 1 coater! I also did not have any issues with this staining, thought I'd mention that since sometimes these kinds of blue are a nightmare.

Shade
Sun
Below is Blue Bells Ring vs. OPI Swimsuit...Nailed It! I thought these would be dupes but they were quite different side by side in the bottle so I decided not to put them on the nail (I forgot to post this photo in my Winter comparisons post...whoops haha!)

Champagne Kisses is a tan, rose gold-ish glitter with a ton of holo glitter bits in the mix also. This is the same kind of glitter as Angel Wings (seems like China Glaze is doing a lot of glitters like this the past year). I did a comparison of this with a few of the similar glitters China Glaze has given us lately, you can check that out here. The formula was okay, a bit thick...it's probably one I'll thin before wearing again. I used 3 coats for the photos below. If you get this I would recommend waiting a few minutes between coats to avoid dragging the polish off.

Shade
Glistening Snow is  very fine silver and holo glitter. This one is also like the previous glitters in this collection. The holo glitter was much more noticeable in person, my camera could not do justice to the sparkle! The formula again was a little thick, I used 3 coats for the photos below. This would be a really nice layering glitter also if you did a thin coat!

Shade

Glitter All The Way is gold, green, red & purple glitter of various sizes in a clear base. If you've ever wanted Mardi Gras in a bottle this is for you haha! I love the mix of glitter, it's fun and I don't think I have anything like it. The formula was great, not too thick and the glitter payoff was incredible. I used 1 coat over Seche Smokey for the photo below.

Shade

Pizzazz is multicolored glitter in a clear base. I do like this but I already own a lot of very similar polishes, as you can see in my comparison post. If you don't already have a multicolored glitter this is another good one! The formula was good, a little thick but the glitter payoff was great! I used 1 coat over Seche Magnifique for the photos below. Both photos are in the shade.

Pure Joy is red and gold glitter in a clear base. I didn't realize this until I started typing this post but it's pretty much an exact dupe of Orly Devil May Care, when I was swatching this I couldn't figure out why it seemed so familiar, now I know why! The formula was good, you could definitely get this opaque on it's own if you wanted to. I used 1 coat over Nicole by OPI Keeping up With Santa for the photo below.

Winter Holly is forest green glitter, fine gold glitter and tiny holo glitter in a clear base. This is again like the previous fine glitters in this collection. This is my easy favorite of my picks, what can I say...I love green. Photos don't do this much justice if you like green like I do you will need this. The formula was really nice, not thick like the others. I used 3 coats for the photos below.

Shade

Overall I'm pretty happy with this collection, I am a huge fan of these finely milled glitters China Glaze has been putting out and this collection is full of them. My must haves from are Winter Holly, Glitter All The Way and Champagne Kisses. I also love Angel Wings and Pure Joy, if you don't already own their dupes I'd pick them up also!

I believe the Holiday Joy Collection is a November release for China Glaze so start looking for it soon at Sally Beauty Supply and Ulta!

While I was typing this post up I received the official info from China Glaze for the collection so I thought I'd include a list of the sets this collection will be available in. 7. Love this!!! My first holiday collection i've ever picked up was China Glaze. They continue to not dissappoint me. Winter Holly is a must have.

  8. I didn't know the green glitter was like the other CG micro glitter. I haven't seen any of the holo glitter show up in pics. I now think I need it as it is my mission to buy all these micro glitters. I'm seriously in love with them!

  9. it's there in all of the fine glitters, just hard to capture!

  10. Wow!!! Thanks for sharing these! They look stunning! I definitely will be picking up a few of them for sure!

  11. I saw this collection last week at my Sally's. I haven't seen many swatches online so I've been holding off. I think I'll have to go in and pick up Winter Holly and maaaaaybe Glistening Snow. Thanks as always for such great swatches!

  12. I think Zoya's holiday collection this year is just really overshadowing everyone else's. I have Winter Holly on order and I'll probably get the Glistening Snow & Angel Wings gift pack with the shot glass (we collect them, so how cool would a CG one be!), but that's about it.

  13. I'd like to know, is Glistening Snow a mix of both silver and holo glitters, or is it all holo glitter but that is silver when the light's not hitting it in the right angle? Cause I have a varnish I just love but it's a tiny Mavala bottle and its coming to an end, and I was wondering if this could be a dupe.

  14. Is there any way you could tell me how close Glistening Snow is to China Glaze's Fairy Dust. They look similar in the pics above, but sometimes it is hard to tell. Thanks for the great swatches!

  15. It's much more dense and also much more silvery

  16. Champagne Kisses looks so pretty :) Winter Holly is so festive, makes me want a Christmas tree like right now!

    ReplyDelete
  17. I don't normally care for reds but Pure Joy is nice! It looks like Christmas in a bottle :)!

  18. These are sooo Christmas-y! Beautiful swatches. :)

  19. Omg Winter Holly and Champagne Kisses! I need those! I looove gold and pink combos <3

  20. Lovely swatches! Especially the green looks great on you :).

  21. I am with you on Winter Holly. This collection was already out when I popped into a Sally's while out of town on medical a week ago. I swatched all of 'em on Scotch tape and then put those tapes on a clean sheet of paper that I bought home with me since I left the store not buying anything from this collection nor the holiday collection from Orly that was out (including the minis). But now having looked at Winter Holly for a week I think I need that one - don't have anything like it. I have last yr's Ulta - so don't need the gold - the silver is just meah to me - guess I have a ton of silvers (maybe non this micro fine). Like you I don't need one more multi color confetti glitter. The red creams in this collection were so ho hum - unless you are new to collecting and have to remember there are new folks getting excited about polish all the time and have just discovered ChG. Will see what I might come home with when I do a second passing at Sally's the next time. I have so many holiday polishes from the past 3-4 yrs I still have never worn. I miss the 'real' holiday collections OPI used to do - I would look forward to those all yr long. Some of my fav colors of all time from OPI have come from those classic collections...would like to see them return to doing a 'real' holiday collection - maybe they think it's not politically correct? Find it odd they miss any chance to put out another collection. Can recall too well the days when there were 2 (maybe 3) collections per company released all yr long. - Call me old!

  22. Oh and Pure Joy looks a lot like the red/gold glitter I swatched from the Orly holiday glitters. I have them side by side here on my sheet of paper. Not sure if you have seen the Orly holiday ones yet.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I agree - Zoya's Ornate collection is stellar. I was glad to see they kicked it up a notch from their holiday 2011 that was weak I thought.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Are you going to get the Butter London holiday collection? I'd love to know how some of these compare--Glistening Snow and Fairy Cake, and Jack the Lad and Winter Holly, particularly.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Fantastic! I'll need a few of these :~)

    ReplyDelete
  26. I'm not planning on buying them as of right now, sorry.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Ive got a few polishes but actually want them all love this collection so bad!

    ReplyDelete
  28. Very pretty! I like these, although like others have said, I don't feel the need to run out & today to purchase these, but I still appreciate a good collection :)

Pure Joy reminds me of Love Marilyn from the Eye Candy glitters last summer, except gold not silver. I regret not getting that one! Speaking of Eye Candy, I just saw Sinful Colors has a dupe of Lorelei's Tiara in their holiday collection, and a possible OPI On Her Majesty's Secret Service dupe called Winter Wonder...

  29. I was dying for this collection and jumped on them when the opportunity to get the whole collection I jumped. I have to say this is the first time I have been disapointed in a collection but I am I don't think it was necessary to have four reds and the glitters look like something that has been done over and over really was let done by this collection

    ReplyDelete
  30. now this collection I bought all of them and love them, they are a must if you love glitter

    ReplyDelete
  31. I agree about the reds, it why I didn't buy any. Always disappointing when nearly half a collection is 1 color

    ReplyDelete
  32. I NEED this collection! LOL!

    ReplyDelete
  33. Wow, China Glaze is hitting it out of the park with their glitters this time! Thanks for all of your great swatches!

  35. I was at Sally's today and they'd JUST put out this and the Orly Holiday polishes, and I wanted Devil May Care from the swatches I'd seen, and I stopped when I saw Pure Joy. I ALMOST like Pure Joy better because it has a little more of the gold in it, but I ended up getting Devil May Care instead. LOL. I'm sure the girl thought I was crazy, because I stood there for a good five minutes just staring at both of them in my hands. It blew my poor, cold-medicated mind. :/ haha

  36. I love your swatch of Glitter All The Way! I already picked up that one and Winter Holly, but I never though to put it over a plum color. Totally doing these fruitcake-y nails this December!

  37. I am soooooooooooo anxiously awaiting this collection at my local nail supply. I literally want every single one except the (non-glitter) reds too, lol! :D I'm nervous because while my local nail supply did stock last year's collection (Let It Snow) they ended up not stocking the previous year's collection ("Tis The Season To Be Naughty Or Nice) which led to me running around like a chicken with it's head cut off trying to hunt down the polishes I wanted from that collection. I noticed that this year Essie holiday has shown up in every drugstore I go to but still has not arrived at my local pro nail supply. I'm getting more and more worried that retail locations are getting preferential treatment for limited edition collection over pro nail supplies. *sigh* Anyone else experiencing this?

Please, please let my local nail supply stock these beauties soon! I NEED EVERY SINGLE ONE SHOWN IN YOUR POST! XD They are so gorgeous! i too am loving those finely milled glitter blends. <3 I saw the press release for the OPI Mariah Carey Collection and it contained polishes called "Liquid Sand" which were finely milled glitters intended to be worn without topcoat. I wonder if they are similar in formula/glitter size to the China Glaze polishes...

Thank you so much for the gorgeous swatches!!! You have confirmed my need for all of these pretties! *swooooooon* :D

    ReplyDelete
  38. I noticed the same with the Essie's...they've been out at Target for weeks and my supply shop just got them a few days ago. I asked why and he said they send to retail first now :( I haven't seen the Mariah polishes yet but I think they might be more gritty than these are without top coat...we shall see when I actually get them though!

  39. I was wondering about that green b/c I got glitterin garland last year and it's like my fav polish EVER.

    ReplyDelete
  40. I picked up a few of these, but I'm super disappointed. I love the colors, but have found both Winter Holly and Glistening Snow to be a complete bust. I got less than 12 hours wear from them before chipping started and on 2 of my nails - it popped off completely. I tried with a basecoat and without, with a topcoat and without. Same thing every time :(

I usually never have problems like this with polish. I love the colors, but these will be getting returned. Oh - in the hours I DID have it on, I wasn't doing strenuous work or any work for that matter......just putzing around my house. I couldn't believe it.

Oh well -hope it works out better for others.

    ReplyDelete
  41. What top coat did you use? I've been having issues with top coat eaters so I keep adding Seche, Gelous, or In a Hurry and then it chips away after about 3 coats bc its too thick. The top coat peels right off the polish...

    ReplyDelete
  42. I am really disappointed with china glaze holiday collection this year...it only had one green...and too many red shades...hopefully i did not sound rude...
    thanks.

    ReplyDelete
  43. nope that's not rude...I agree with you, too much red!

    ReplyDelete
  44. I was also hoping that they released emerald sparkle again in this years collection...

    ReplyDelete
  45. Do you know how Glistening Snow compares to butter London Fairy Cake? Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  46. I don't own that Butter London shade, sorry!

    ReplyDelete
  47. " it was a little thicker than I personally care for so I thinned it a bit, now it's perfect!" How did you thin the polish? I really want to know how to do that with some of my glitters and polishes.

    ReplyDelete
  48. I use Beauty Secrets nail polish thinner from Sally Beauty Supply

    ReplyDelete
  49. Is Glistening Snow a dupe to one of OPI's DS (I think Luxurious)?

    ReplyDelete
  50. I'm so glad I found your post about Winter Holly. I just picked up a bottle on clearance at Trade Secret and was disappointed when I applied one coat that went on so unevenly that I didn't even bother trying additional posts. I did what you said you did (3 coats) and got amazing results! They don't look as awesome as your nails since mine are still growing out more, but I'll give it another month or two and hope they've reached my desired length.
