OPI Skyfall Collection Magnetic Polishes: Is That Silva? & Morning, Moneypenny

Happy Halloween! Hope you're all having a great Halloween so far! Anyone doing anything fun tonight to celebrate? I'm sure not, unless you count watching the Face Off finale a fun time. We're not even handing out candy, it seems like when I was a kid there were 100's of us trick or treating in the neighborhood but the last few years it seems like the kids are going elsewhere so we don't bother now. I am rocking some Dexter-licious nails though, you can check them out on my Instagram if you're interested! I did the Ice Truck Killer skittles mani with a little bit of blood splatter, you can't have Dexter nails and not have blood splatter!

Today I have 2 of the 3 magnetic polishes OPI is doing as part of their Skyfall Collection for Holiday 2012. Hopefully I'll get the third eventually but I could not seem to find it anywhere around here. None of my local supply shops had it and the sales girls at all 4 Ulta's I went to looking for it looked at me like I had 37 eyes when I asked if they had them in stock. I love Ulta but man, some of their employees are seriously so incredibly unhelpful...it's kind of amazing how clueless they are to the products they carry.

To see swatches & reviews of both polishes click the read more button below.

Photos of the magnet can be found at the bottom of the post!

Is That Silva? is a charcoal grey/silver magnetic with holo glitter in the mix. When I first saw the magnetic polishes I passed on them, you could not see the holo in the store I was at. You guys convinced me I needed them and I am SO GLAD you did! Hands down this is my favorite magnetic polish in my stash, sprinkle in holo and I'm done for. The formula wasn't quite as opaque as I'm used to, I used 2 coats at first and after doing the magnet you could see visible nail line so I went back and did a 3rd coat and re-did the magnet.

Shade

Morning, Moneypenny is a magenta/pink magnetic, it also has holo glitter in the mix! I don't like this one quite as much as Is That Silva? but it's right up there among my favorite magnetics just because it looks awesome in the sun. This was much much better in real life, the holo glitter was a lot more noticeable than it looks in photos. The formula was great, I used 2 coats for the photos below.

Shade

The magnet for these OPI polishes is a bit different than any of the others I own. I found it to be very easy to use, the way you place your finger in and then press the magnet down makes it very user friendly. There is a little lip on the magnet side that makes it so that you don't hit your nail. I really loved the magnet for Is That Silva? It was nice and strong, far and away it's the best magnet I own with the diagonal line design.

The magnet for Morning, Moneypenny wasn't as good unfortunately. I need to try it on other magnetic polishes to see if maybe it was the polish that wasn't as great but I found it to be a little weak, it didn't pull the design as well as I wanted it to.

As far as availability of the OPI Magnetic Polishes goes...I really have no idea. Like I mentioned at the beginning of the post I went to 4 Ulta stores looking for these over the weekend and none of them had them or had any idea what the heck I was talking about when I asked about them. If you have a beauty supply near you that carries OPI you might find them there, that's where I found these 2.

I'm also not sure of the retail price, all of the PR info I have seen for these has been Canadian and said $21.95 each, I'm not sure if that's what they are retailing for in the US or not. I paid $8.50 each but I shop at a supply shop where polishes are typically about half the retail price. Each Magnetic set will retail for $17.50.

Sorry for the lack of info, when/if I get more accurate info I'll update this part of the post :)

  1. Both polishes are super pretty. But I would wear them without that magnetic effect. Just don't like it...

  3. haha totally with you on the Ulta employees!! I always get the feeling I'm interrupting their conversation by asking a question, or even being in the store! Love the Dexter nails.

  4. Wow! Those *are* gorgeous! Hope I can find them soon!

  5. My local Ulta is so lacking in product knowledge. "Yes you carry Zoya, let me show you...". Hope we get them soon because I need Is that Sylvia! Also, Money Penny might be a dupe for Sinful Captivate Me from their recently released magnetic line?

  6. These look very interesting. I don't think I'll buy Is That Silva? because I already have Depend 6005, but I like the look of Morning, Moneypenny and the magnet that goes with Bond... James Bond, so I guess I'll get those two.

  7. I thought I was the only one who felt like I knew more about what was going on in my Ulta than the employees! They are usually nice but always clueless.

I have never tried the magnetic polishes. I might try to see if I can find the Is That Silva? this weekend.

  8. Is That Silva? is utterly gorgeous. I quite like magnetic polishes but am too lazy, so that idiot-proof magnet looks right up my street. But I didn't know these polishes even existed! I wonder if we can get them in UK?

  9. Holy holo glitter! I was going to pass on most of this collection, but I don't think I can live without that silver.

  10. Wow! These are gorgeous polishes!! I have three magnetic polishes altogether in my collection, but I've yet to use even one. I don't think any of them could be as pretty as these two are though....

  12. Is That Silva? hahaha... I love OPI's names. They crack me up! I am curious about the magnet on these; I have such bad luck with magnets working on me but this looks fun...

  13. They're pretty! but how come they aren't named anything Bond related???

  17. I'm a bit 'over' the magnetic thing, I went crazy on it at the beginning of the year when Nails Inc. brought theirs out in the UK; I only have one magnetic colour now :) We love your blog in our office and always check your swatches before buying more polish! Thanks Jen xx

  20. These were for sale in a beauty supply out of town I went to last week but I missed their close time at 6pm. I am not crazy for magnetics but I like the shimmer in these. My eye goes to the Moneypenny one but not at all liking the magnet that comes with it. Called that same out of town store and they were retailing them for $18 each that included the magnet and the polish. I will be in a really large city next week on medical and hoping to get to calling ahead to a few better beauty supply places to see if they have these and might save 1 for me. I really like the design on this gray one you got your hands on. I still don't think I would pop for more than 1 of these being as I have not liked this trend...kind of surprised OPI came out with some so late in the game - but then they have their collections planned so far out if they are not creating the trend, they either skip it or are late getting theirs out. I still would rather have seen OPI stop the Bond tie in and instead have released even a 4 shade real Christmas collection. I so miss their old holiday collections. I looked forward all yr to those and many of my favs are from those collections. I had read these magnetics were produced in very small quantity & would not be able to fill all distributor advance orders so we might see many who do have them run the price up (if they know there is a semi shortage on these). Also many shops did not preorder these thinking they might get stuck with them - that's what I have heard from more than 10 nail techs I know. There just are too many other options for this look out there - despite the OPI ones have the shimmer in them...one can add a little shimmer over the top of another magnetic and end up with a very similar look. I do think the magnetic effect on the OPIs are a tad stronger than others I have seen (for the most part). But this look is really not going to carry much longer - after this winter it will be very passe looking IMO.

  21. I love you blog! I'm new to the site and I was wondering if you wear acrylic nails. Your nails are the perfect length and look amazing. How do you do it?!

  22. I just placed what I thought was my last two polish orders for the rest of the year and then read this post and went back and ordered Is That Silva? Sheesh!! I need to stop reading nail blogs. LOL

    ReplyDelete
  23. lol I am bad for the wallet!

    ReplyDelete
  24. Thanks :) My nails are natural, I don't really do much other than moisturizing my cuticles a lot and shaping/filing my nails once a week

    ReplyDelete
  25. Ugh! Ulta employees are so unhelpful!!! I feel your pain!

    ReplyDelete
  26. Holo magnetic?? How cool!! And I love that magnet!

    ReplyDelete
  27. The magnet on the one you didn't get - the gold one - looks awesome, too! It's like a fishnet pattern!

    ReplyDelete
  28. Oh man! Just when I thought I was satisfied with my magnetic polish stash... I was going to pass on these but OMG the holo twinkles make them MUST HAVES for me! I totally need Is That Silvia? It's gorgeous! I don't know if I'll get Morning, Moneypenny or not. Hope to see it in person though! I am dying to see the other two colors now!!! :D Do all of them have the beautiful holo twinkles? *fingers crossed*

I know there is a ban against Sinful Colors (and I agree that what they did was beyond wrong...though Revlon is trying to make it right, right?) but...there is a Sinful Colors magnetic polish that looks similar to Hello, Moneypenny. It looks like the shade is quite similar and it has pretty holo twinkles all through it. It is the only polish in the Sinful Colors line of magnetics that has the pretty holo twinkles in it though. The magnetic effect is intense. The magnets are strong and create really dramatic looks!

Oh, one last thing... Sinful Colors magnetic polishes come with either a starburst or a fishnet/grid pattern depending on which display you find. The starburst magnet is the more common of the two and can be found on all the SC magnetic polishes with one exception. The fishnet/grid magnets are only on the magnetic polishes in the display which has the color Snake It Out in it (the model in the display image is wearing Snake It Out). The colors in the Snake It Out magnetic display hold the same shades as the other displays with the exception of Snake It Out which seems to be exclusive to that particular display. The magnets are on rings around the bottle stem and have cuticle guards. Both are nice, strong magnets which create strong, clean designs.

Sorry to go on and on about those. Just wanted to fill you in just in case you didn't know about those...and also for those who want Morning, Moneypenny but can't find it. :)

  29. I like the look of the OPI magnet, it looks so easy to use, and I really like Is That Silva?, which I may have to track down, even though I told myself no more magnetics. They look so awesome in your swatches, but the designs on my nails never look as strong, they come out sort of faint.

  30. I would try blowing on your nail while the magnet is doing it's magic...sometimes it helps!

They look amazing! I love the little holosparkles in the polishes!

  32. I've been sort of on the fence about magnetic polishes. I think I need both of these, I'm a sucker for sparkle!

  36. I just found Is that Silvia at Marshall's for $7. I picked it up for the holo but I am glad to see the magnets actually work. Yay! PS. Love your blog, first site I come to if I'm ever looking for swatches and recommendations on new collections!
