Happy Weekend! Anyone doing anything fun and exciting this weekend? I've got a little shopping planned and I was thinking about going and searching for Bradley Cooper. They are closing one of the freeways here all weekend to shoot The Hangover 3, I doubt I'd actually find Bradley Cooper...but hey, ya never know! Today I have a bit of random spam for you, no particular brand! A lot of these you might have seen recently (or will see soon) as a base for layering. What I learned from this post is that I have been a bit obsessed with green and purple recently, enjoy!
Check out all the swatches after the jump!
China Glaze Starboard is a squishy looking yellow toned green. I kind of can't believe I've never shown this on the blog, it's a green I grab for a lot! The formula is a nice one, it applies easily and looks a bit squishy even though it's just a regular creme. I used 2 coats for the photos below.
China Glaze White-Kwik-Silvr is a sheer golden white shimmer. This is an oldie (and I think hard to find) from China Glaze, I came across it a few weeks back at a random nail supply shop. It's nothing amazing, I don't really love it on it's own, but it's a great base for glitters and I think it would be nice over black also. I used 3 coats for the photos below, it's not opaque but good enough for me!
Color Club Status Update is a dark grey creme. This is a Birchbox exclusive so if you want it that's where to get it. I don't subscribe to Birchbox but one of my friends does and she didn't like the color so she gifted it to me! The formula was pretty fantastical, a 1 coater! Best part of this polish, the label says Status Uptade, I love labeling fails haha!
Icing Electric Emerald is an emerald green with blue/purple duochrome shimmer. This is one of those polishes that is like a diamond in the rough at Icing. Sometimes I wander in and find a gem like this. I'm pretty sure I picked this up back around St. Patricks Day in a display they had out for the holiday, I'm not sure if they still have it or not. The formula was great, a bit sheer at first but fully opaque with 2 coats.
Milani Dressmaker is a light jade green with a super hidden green shimmer. This is another oldie, I'm pretty sure this is not in stores anymore. I got this when it came out well over a year ago and it was hard to find even back then. I love shades like this but they always give me crazy lobster hands :( The formula was good, a bit sheer but it built up nicely. I used 3 coats for the photos below.
Ozotic 92 is very tiny multicolored glitter in a clear base. I got this in a swap I did a looooong time ago with Carli who blogs at Konadlicious. Back when we did our swap Ozotic was a pain in the butt to get here in the US, there were no fabulous etailers who carried their polishes. I still remember opening the package from her and dying from all the amazing Ozotics she sent me. I'm not sure if this particular shade is still made, I searched a little on google for it and didn't find much info. I quite like this, it adds a nice amount of glitter without being too in your face. I used 1 coat over Zoya Maila for the photos below.
Sally Hansen Purple Pizzazz is a dark purple with pink shimmer. I wanted this polish for so long, it was one I'd always pick up and then decide not to buy. Then, I walked into Ulta a few weeks ago and found it on clearance for like $1, I think it was fate...it finally came home with me. However, I am sorely disappointed by this. It was SO sheer :( I kept hoping it would get opaque but I gave up after 4 coats, it's definitely one to layer over a dark purple.
Ulta Moody Blues is a dark blue creme. I've had this in my stash for probably 2 years...just sitting there, untried. I finally decided to give it a shot and I gotta say, it's pretty awesome. Hopefully Ulta still carries it, I know they have totally revamped the salon line since I bought this. The formula was awesome, a 1 coater! I think this will probably be my go to dark blue base for layering now!
Ulta Peach Parfait is a peach creme. This is another that sadly sat untried for years. I love the color but the formula was a bit of a let down. It was on the sheer side and needed 4 coats to get opaque.
Ulta Tutu Cute is a medium purple creme. Same story as the last 2 Ulta polishes, sadly ignored in the helmer. This is another I'm glad to have re-found! The color is beautiful and the formula was surprisingly great, I used 2 coats for the photos below.
Zoya OC Cooler is golden flecks of shimmer in a sheer orange base. This polish is from Zoya's Glamsicle Collection, which is probably my favorite most under rated Zoya Collection ever. All the polishes in it look a little meh in the bottle but then you layer them over something dark and your head explodes from the awesome. I used 1 coat over Zoya Raven for the photos below. All photos are in the shade.
Purity is a white creme. This was on my need to try list from Zoya forever, I'm always hunting for the best white creme. This one is okay, the formula wasn't anything to write home about in my opinion. It was a little streaky but opaque with a couple thick coats. It's a nice white but not one I'll grab for when I need a white base for layering.
Zoya Raven is black with a subtle silver shimmer. This was another on my list to try from Zoya, it's the closest thing they have to a pure black creme. I like this shimmer in this, it softens the black a little bit without lightening the color. The formula was really nice, nearly a 1 coater but I ended up needing 2 coats to cover a couple patchy spots.
Hope you all have a great weekend!

ReplyDeleteWhat do you prefer to use as a white and black base for layering? I'm looking for some good ones,
ReplyDeleteI wonder how starboard relates to sinful colors exotic green. They seem pretty close
ReplyDeleteYAY for your Saturday Spam posts! :)
ReplyDeleteStarboard totally reminds me of kelp, haha, so cool!
Purple Pizzazz looks cool in your photos, but sounds pretty disappointing :( kudos on the deal though!
I have always been intrigued by the Ulta polishes, but I never buy because I'm a price-tag-frugal-snob, lol, seems pricey for a "store brand". These Ultas look so pretty though, so I think I'll look for a sale and try some out.
I think I must have have Raven btw!
oxoxo
There are some pretty polishes and combo's in there! Icing seems to have some great polishes, too bad they aren't available here :(.
ReplyDeleteI love Dressmaker; wish I would have known about it when it came out. Love the Saturday spam and thanks for the hard work.
ReplyDeleteLately I've been using Nails Inc Floral Street for white and Nails Inc Black Taxi for black!
ReplyDeleteDefinitely check out their sales, it seems like they are always having buy 2 get 2 free on their house brand!
ReplyDeleteI agree about the Purple Pizzazz- it looks awesome in the bottle but it's so sheer.
ReplyDeleteMmmmm, Bradley Cooper! Swoon!
ReplyDeleteI so want Milani Dress Maker, but can't find it anywhere! :(
That SH Purple Pizazz almost looks to have a Fantasy Fire like quality to it..
I love the Birchbox exclusive Color Club collection! I got a great vibrant cobalt blue called Insta this in my box last month and always get compliments when I wear it.
ReplyDeleteI want Dress Maker too!!!!! Your killing me with awesome HTF polish. Hahahaha
ReplyDeleteI love random spam! I think my favorite of these is Moody Blues!
ReplyDeleteI'll have to check out the rest of that Glamsicle collection. Sounds right up my alley!
ReplyDeleteI totally need to check out that Glamsicle Collection! That layering is gorgeous!!! Best white to date IMHO (as I too am always looking for the perfect, easy to apply, opaque, pure white): Milani White On The Spot. It's definitely worthy of picking up if you are still hunting for your HG white polish. Though you might already have it... :) I have some poor pretties that have lingered in ye olde untried state too, some for over a year (or more!). Ack! *facepalm* Loving your spam as always! <3 <3 <3
ReplyDeleteCurious what is your go to white cream you would use for layering? And like others have said, I need to look at the Glamsicle Collection again! I have heard many folks say Zoya's Raven is close to Chanel's Black Satin. I am not a huge Chanel fan - most due to lack of access and the $$$ point. I pop for a few here and there that get really a lot of talk...usually end up disappointed I spent that $. I love that you dig into your Helmer and 'go shopping' there. I also do that a lot and have done it much more in this past year. When we get so many shades it's a must to visit your 'friends.'
ReplyDeleteLately it's been Nails Inc Floral Street!
