Color Club Holiday 2012 Winter Affair Collection Swatches

Hi guys! Has everyone recovered from their election night anxiety yet? I'm so glad they called the Presidential race early so I could move on to creating an ulcer over the local election results. I'm scared to look and see who won those since I'm sure everyone I don't care for got elected to our city council based on the numbers when I went to bed last night :(

Today I have Color Club's gorgeous Holiday 2012 called Winter Affair to share with you guys! This collection brings us 6 gorgeous new polishes, 1 of them being a flakie top coat! Just a note about this collection, you can find this at Sally Beauty Supply (I saw it at my local store last week). However, it seems to be a bit different i.e. a couple of the colors are different but named the same thing. The Sally's version of this collection is also scented, if you buy them elsewhere they just smell like nail polish :(

Berry and Bright is a bright shimmery red. The formula was not my favorite, I found it to be thick...it's one I will thin before wearing again. It was nice and opaque though and I only needed 1 coat for full coverage, I guess that's a fair trade off. This dried a bit flat and dull looking, but it's absolutely gorgeous with a coat of top coat!

Shade

Gift of Sparkle is purple and chunky holographic glitter in a purple tinted base. This one was a surprise for me, it went on a little darker than I was expecting. The formula was a little thick but I had no application issues. This did dry dull and with texture, it's one you will need a couple coats of top coat to smooth out. I used 2 coats for the photos below.

Shade
Glitter Wonderland is a gorgeous shimmery purple. In the shade this had a little bit of a pink flash to it. I'm not sure how unique this is but it's one of my favorites from the collection! The formula was really nice, it flowed nicely and wasn't thick. I used 2 coats for the photos below.

Shade

Ho-Ho-Holly is a green foil. There is a lot of gold in this, that sets it apart from a lot of the other similar greens we've seen for holiday this year. The formula was great, I used 2 coats for the photos below.

Shade

Winter Affair is a vampy maroon shimmer. This is another favorite of the collection for me, it's the kind of color I always grab for when it starts getting cold out. It reminds me a bit of Zoya Jem just without the gold that Jem has. The formula was great, I used 2 coats for the photos below. It did dry a little dull which was surprising to me, I used top coat for the photos below.

Shade

Snow-Flakes is a flakie top coat. The flakes flash green, red, orange and gold depending on the color you layer it over and how you're holding your hand. This is a dupe to a lot of other flakie top coats like Essie Shine of the Times, Nubar 2010, Sally Hansen Hidden Treasure etc..

I layered Snow-Flakes over each color from this collection. I really like how different it looks over certain colors, my favorite combo was over Glitter Wonderland. I was also surprised by how great Snow-Flakes looked over Gift of Sparkle. All of the photos below are 1 coat of Snow-Flakes over the base polish and in the shade.

The Winter Affair Collection is available now, I didn't see it on the  Color Club website when I looked last night but I'm assuming it will be there soon.  Several etailers including Transdesign and Head2ToeBeauty already have it available on their websites. You can also find this collection at Sally Beauty Supply but like I mentioned at the beginning of the post the collection is slightly different. I've heard that people are finding this collection at TJ Maxx and Marshall's stores aswell but I've yet to see them at those stores near me!

  1. I like the flakie topcoat the best. It looks amazing over all the colors especially Ho-Ho-Holly. The other colors are nice but not original to my collection.

  2. Hi! I found some sets of 2 at TJMaxx. It is one of the colors plus the flakie topcoat...but the flakie glitter is actually round instead of the shredded glitter that is a little different. I didn't swatch it yet but it looks cool in the bottle. I think the price was $3.99 for the set.

  9. Saw this at sallys but it didn't really interest me. But now I'm regretting not buying it, may have to make another stop at sallys soon. I have a question though, what do you use to thin out your polishes? And does it work with glitter polish aswell?

  10. I like them all. Winter Affair at Sally is a gold foil (don't need), and Gift of Sparkle is a royal shimmery blue. CC really shouldn't give totally different polishes the same names, just MHO.

  11. Great swatches as usual. I so wonder what the heck CC was thinking when they did same names/different colors? That just has fans of this line getting all mixed up and unhappy written all over it. We got some CC lines into Rite Aide here this past yr but not all of them and never anything but collections - no standing all the time shades. I really would like to get a couple of the shades that are in the non Sally's collection, but ugh having to track down the right place, right name, right shade - who needs that? CC has really let me down on this one PR/Editorial mess up. 3 Sally's I have called don't have the Sally versions in stock yet as of Monday this week. Guess I will look on line. Thanks for the TJMax etc tips - I thought they only sold collections after they were done for the season and they got the ones that did not get sold. We don't have a TJMax/Marshalls for 200 miles -guess while I have your photos/with names referenced right here now I should look around on line...I hate paying shipping however.

  12. I use the Beauty Secrets thinner from Sally's, it works on all kinds of polish. Glitter, Creme, Shimmer, Crackle etc :)

I just got the Snow-flakes one. It looks so much like Sally Hansen Hidden Treasure. At first it also reminded me of China Glaze Luxe and Lush, but I then realized that the flakes in Luxe and Lush were a lot bigger, they stand out and it doesn't give the same effect.

I love them all, though. Can't have too many polishes, even if they look a lot like each other!

  19. Snow-Flakes over Gift of Sparkle is to die for! I love all the polishes including the topcoat, well except Berry & Bright, not that I don't like it but I have already too many similar colours!

  20. Hi! Could you compare Gift of Sparkle with Zoya Aurora and Glitter Wonderland with its possible dupes (don't know, maybe Zoya Suri or ChG No Plain Jane or something similar from OPI?) Thanks so much for your swatches!!!
