Hi guys, hope you all had a fantastic Christmas if you celebrated it yesterday! Today I have swatches of Nicole by OPI's Modern Family Collection to share with you. Nicole by OPI has teamed up with Twentieth Century Fox for this 14 polish collection that is inspired by the personalities from the show Modern Family. I really enjoy the show so I think it's fun to have a polish collection themed after it!
Check out all my swatches & reviews of each shade by clicking the read more button after the collage!
A Like-Haley Story... is a bright fuschia pink with a very subtle shimmer. In real life this is a touch more pink, it's such a saturated shade that my camera was having some problems capturing how bright it was. The shimmer in this is gorgeous when the light hits the nail right but it is pretty much invisible indoors and in low lighting. The formula was fantastic, nearly a 1 coater! I used 2 coats to cover up a couple patchy spots.

A Phil's Paradise is a pewter shimmer. This shade is gorgeous! It's hard to tell in photos but it's made up of really finely milled gold and silver shimmer/glitter, when it builds up on the nail it's turns into an interesting silvery grey. The formula was really nice, much more opaque than I expected it to be. I used 2 coats for the photos below.

Alex By The Books is a minty seafoam green creme. This was love at first sight, I love spring polish collections for the gorgeous pastels that come out. Not only is the color great but the formula was awesome. It was creamy and a breeze to apply, it wasn't streaky and the opacity was great. I used 2 coats for the photos below.

Am I Making Myself Claire? is a greyed out lilac pastel creme. Much like Alex By The Books I loved this as soon as I saw it in the bottle. Also like Alex By The Books the formula was fantastic, no streakiness and a breeze to apply. I used 2 coats for the photos below.

Back In My Gloria Days... is a vibrant violet shimmer. This shimmer absolutely glows, I always like polishes like this because you don't need sunshine or bright like to make to them look nice. The formula was good but a little bit sheer. It did build up nicely though, I used 3 coats for the photos below.

Shade
Basking In Gloria is a red-violet shimmer. I really loved the formula of this, the base was a bit jelly like in the way that is dries and looks a little squishy...but it applied nice and opaque like a creme. I used 2 coats for the photos below.
|
Shade
Candid Cameron is a teal shimmer. There is a touch of duochrome in this one but it's more apparent in the bottle than on the nail. The formula was really nice, there were some visible brush strokes once the polish dries but it's more noticeable in photos than in real life. I used 2 coats for the photos below.

Haley Good Lookin'.... is a salmon pink glitter in a clear base. The bigger pieces of glitter have a bit of an holographic effect going on when the light hits your nails right out in the sun. The formula was really nice, it wasn't thick and the glitter payoff was great. I used 1 coat over My Jay Or The Highway! for the photos below.

I Do De-Claire! is a light pink frost. Not a fan of this, the finish is just not something I care for. If you do like a frost finish this is one you will probably like. The formula was nice and easy to apply. I used 2 coats for the photos below.

Shade
Luke Of The Draw is a black jelly base loaded with various sizes of silver glitter. The glitter payoff is pretty amazing in here, even with all that glitter the application was easy. There was no need to place the glitter and the black jelly base doesn't go on patchy. I used 2 coats for the photos below.

My Jay Or The Highway! is a taupe-y nude creme. This is a little yellow toned for my skin tone but it will look great on others. The formula was really nice, it was creamy and applied easily. I used 2 coats for the photos below.

She's Lily Something is star glitter in a duochromey shimmer base. The shimmery base looks the same as the base that OPI used in
Nothin' Mousie 'Bout It. The stars in my bottle have a tendancy to sink so you'll either way to put this upside down or give it a really good shake before you apply it. The stars weren't too difficult to get out after that but they were difficult to get into the nail. You will probably need to place the stars where you want them. I used 1 "coat" of She's Lily Something over A Like-Haley Story... for the photos below, both photos are in the shade.
Stand By Your Manny is a light pastel blue with a silvery shimmer. Gorgeous color but I didn't really care for the formula of this one. It was a little on the thick side. I also found it to be sheer and patchy. The opacity was good at 3 coats but I needed 4 to even out the patchiness.

Shade
What's The Mitch-uation? is a shimmery dark blue. In the bottle this looked like it had a touch of a purple duochrome but I can't see it once the polish is on the nail. The formula was nice but a little sheer. I used 3 coats for full opacity.

Luke of the Draw looks pretty special, and all the cremes are beautiful. Looks like there may be a couple of dupes for the Spiderman collection though? Thanks for sharing :)
ReplyDeleteOMG i love all the names, the colors aren't that special but the names <33

ReplyDeleteOh man, I like way more of these than I thought I would!
ReplyDeleteMaybe in part from the fact that I don't watch the show, but I'm still not excited about these. I like the pastel cremes, can't wait to see comparisons with them.
ReplyDeleteCan you compare I Do De-Claire to OPI Your Web Or Mine?
ReplyDeleteFor comparisons... Basking in Gloria vs. OPI The One That Got Away? also Candid Cameron vs. Orly's Halley's Comet? These are really really pretty!
ReplyDeleteBack In My Gloria Days and Luke of the Draw look amazing! I don't watch the show but this collection looks so pretty and I love the names :)
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately I desstashed Your Web Or Mine so I can't compare them but I'm pretty sure I Do De-Claire is a lot lighter
ReplyDeleteYay! I have been patiently waiting for these since you posted the bottle pics! I'm loving these! A couple of them reminded me of some past OPI's, though. I finally fulfilled my lemming for OPI Metallic 4 Life and I almost had to do a double take at Luke of the Draw! Can't wait to run into these at the store!
ReplyDeleteLuke of The Draw - Metallic 4 life and What's The Mituation - Swimsuit Nailed it! Comparisons please :)
ReplyDeleteok, all are absolutely gorgeous, what do i do? hehe ;)
ReplyDeleteWill you do a comparison for What's The Mitch-uation? with Into the Night and Yoga-Ta Get This Blue?
ReplyDeleteAlex By The Books is gorgeous! Would like to see it compared to the very popular Essie Mint Candy Apple and I guess CG For Audrey :) Looking at it now, I would say Alex By The Books is probably lighter and brighter than those two. Also, Candid Cameron looks very similar to Sephora by OPI Mermaid to Order.
ReplyDeleteI don't own the Essie or the Sephora by OPI you mentioned, sorry. For Audrey is much more blue and darker, they aren't close :)
ReplyDeleteOh dear! That's ok, I guess I will just bring my bottles with me to the store and compare it there haha. Thanks :)
ReplyDeleteMaybe because I'm such a huge fan of the show but I'm finding myself a bit disappointed by these :( I was expecting the names/colors to be more funny or special. Oh well, at least now I won't be tempted to splurge.
ReplyDeleteAm I making myself Claire vs the pink from the pirates of the carribean collection. Can't remember the name. That pink also has a dupe from sinful colors (starfish)
ReplyDeleteBoth of the Gloria shades have my name written on them - somehow the gorgeous Gloria in purple reminds me of something I have but my mind is blank (thanks to the fact I have way out grown the size of stash anyone really should ever have unless they are a professional nail person or have a blog and need a ton of 'em to reference back to. Yuck - who the heck in the editing let that frosty pink Claire one have the go for this collection? That shade dates back to the 60's and 70's and I don't know anyone but maybe 1 person who would ever wear a frost finish. I used to refuse to even go looking at the NOPIs because I so hate the bottle. But now after last fall and I am still head over heals for Busta Mava and Good As Gold - those are so filled with speckles of other shades that are like glass fleck in color...I am more interested in what NOPI has to offer..most of the time, I have seen the shades they come up with before - like it's a dump pile for old OPIs that get re-invented...or it's the place for the marketing of lots more celebrity tie in lines. Cannot wait to see your comparisons...if I get a brain in my head later I will post again with some like to see comparison posts - I am sure there are a ton of 'em.
ReplyDeleteYes, I thought of OPI Swimsuit Nailed it too when I saw Mituation - but I think Mituation has more glass fleck look to it.
ReplyDeleteI am thinking I have a # of things like Basking in Gloria but I have a huge soft spot in my heart for fuchsias. I am sure The One That Got Away is deeper, more raspberry than Basking in Gloria.
ReplyDeleteSwimsuit is much more of a vibrant blue and it's a foil finish. I did find an OPI dupe for Mitch-uation though :)
ReplyDeleteAny idea how close Candid Cameron is to OPI Austin-tatious Turquoise?
ReplyDeleteI don't own that polish anymore (gave it away) so I'm not sure how close they are, sorry.
ReplyDeleteWow these are all great colors. Don't know which one I like best.
ReplyDeleteCould you compare Luke of the draw to OPI's Metallic for Life, please?!
ReplyDeleteCould you compare Stand by your Manny to Sinful Colors-Cinderella and can you compare Alex by the Books to Essie-Where's my Chauffeur and China Glaze-Kinetic Candy?
ReplyDeleteHi, I just wanted to ask, in the pic do de Claire it looks like there is a coating under the polish. Like a gel strengthener? What do you use? Thanks
ReplyDeleteWhat's The Mitch-uation compared to CG Blue Bells Ring, Back In My Gloria Days... to Gosh Gasoline, and Candid Cameron to CG Deviantly Daring or Gosh Ocean?
ReplyDeleteLuke of the Draw looks very similar to OPI Metallic 4 Life, as well as What's the Mitch-uation and OPI Tomorrow Never Dies
ReplyDeleteI just use a regular base coat.
ReplyDeleteCan you do a comparison with China Glaze Blue Years Eve and What's the Mitch-uation?
ReplyDeleteIt looks closer to refresh-mint by CG than For Audrey :)
ReplyDeleteAlex By the Books looks a lot like NOPI My Lifesaver to me. Mitchuation kind of reminds me of Unfor-greta-bly Blue too.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous pics as always! :) I'd love to see comparisons of Candid Cameron with ChG Deviantly Daring, Mitch-uation with ChG Want my Bawdy, and Alex by the Books with Color Club Blue-ming, if you have those!
ReplyDeleteI loved almost all of them, but I think opi is doing enamels much similar to be in different collections... Like 'Luke Of The Draw remembers' me 'Mettalic 4 life', 'Am I Making Myself Claire?' and 'Steady as a rose', 'Haley Good Lookin' and that glitter from the october's pink collection, 'I Do De-Claire! 'and 'Your web or mine?', I don't know, maybe I'm deceiving... Anyway, my favorite one is 'Back In My Gloria Days' , that's pretty perfect *-* Great review as always!
ReplyDeleteYour pictures and reviews are the best, thank you! Do you think Haley Good Lookin' is a dupe for the OPI Katy Perry Teenage Dream? I hate to admit it but I love that frosty pink!
ReplyDeleteEek so excited for this cause I'm a big fan of the show, thanks for posting!! Which ones are your 'picks' for this collection?
ReplyDeleteOverall I think it's a nice collection, a good mix of colors and finishes. There's nothing that really ends up on my wishlist. Gorgeous swatches! I actually think I like that pink frost. I'm still not sure if I like frosts or not, they can look really pretty or just horrible with those brushstrokes!
ReplyDeleteAnother vote for a comparison between Luke of the Draw & Metallic 4 Life, please!
ReplyDeleteThere are several of these that I really adore. Thanks for the post. I really appreciate that you show them under different lighting. Back in my Gloria days and Phil's Paradise are especially calling to me,.
ReplyDeleteIs it just me or have I seen many of those before?
ReplyDeleteWhat's The Mitch-uation? = Into the night?
My Jay Or The Highway! = Suzi takes the wheel?
Luke Of The Draw = Metallic 4 life
I Do De-Claire! = your web or mine (altough this looks pinker)
A Like-Haley Story..My adress is hollywood (but just brigther)
Am I Making Myself Claire? = Steady as she rose
Back In My Gloria Days... Zoya Mimi
Pretty collection, thanks for the swatches. =)
ReplyDeleteSome people may have already suggested these comparisons but..
Am I Making Myself Claire to OPI Steady As She Rose
Alex By The Books to Color Club Blue-ming
Back In My Gloria Days to OPI Grape Set Match
Candid Cameron to China Glaze Deviantly Daring
Luke Of The Draw to OPI Metallic 4 Life
Stand By Your Manny to NOPI Nothing Kim-pares To You
What's The Mitch-uation? to OPI Into the Night and China Glaze Want My Bawdy
Love the show...... Love the names. Love your nails . I will probably pick up a couple bottles. Could you compare Am I Making Myself Claire and OPI My Very First Knockwurst
ReplyDeleteI love nail polish and Modern Family but I feel these nail polish collections based on singers or tv shows that have nothing to do with nail polish is getting ridiculous. Justin Bieber, Modern Family seriously? What's next? An Anderson Cooper nail polish collection?
ReplyDeleteSince my fiances name is Mitch, I think I'm going to HAVE to buy What's The Mitch-uation :D
ReplyDeletejust some comparison suggestions:
ReplyDeletephil's paradise
-celeb city by sally hansen x-treme hardware
alex by the books
-blue-ming by color club
luke of the draw
-is the glitter similar to essie set in stones?
stand by your manny
-bikini so teenie by essie
-cinderella by sinful colors
what's the mitch-uation
-listen to your momager NOPI
I had the same question about the comparison to China Glaze "For Audrey." Now I know the answer. :)
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with the comparisons. When I saw 'What's The Mitchuation' I immediately thought of OPI Into The Night.
ReplyDeleteI saw these today at Target, thought of your blog, and wondered if you had swatches. I can't decide which color is my favorite, but I will have to try a few of these out and do a NOTD soon.
ReplyDeleteI would love to see a comparison between Am I Making Myself Claire and OPI Steady As She Rose.
ReplyDeleteI am amazed at the double personality of Phil's Paradise.
