Lac Attack Magical Musings Collection Swatches

Hi guys! Today I am very excited to share Lac Attack's Magical Musings Collection with you. Ana from Lac Attack collaborated with Kirsten from Glitta Gloves on this collection and it's based on the world of Harry Potter. Kirsten has become one of my best friends through blogging, it makes me so happy to see something she loves so much translated so well into nail polish.  I can't say I'm quite as big of a Harry Potter fan but I really love all the stories behind the polishes and all the thought that has gone into each one.

The Magical Musings Collection is currently sold out on the Lac Attack website but it is restocking tomorrow 12/21/12 at 4pm EST. I wanted to mention that up here since I know sometimes people don't always read the entire post. If you are lemming any of these make sure you mark your calendar for tomorrow's restock!

Amortentia is pink and lavender glitter in a shimmery pink base. This polish is inspired by Amortentia which is the worlds most powerful love potion. I think the colors are fitting for something like that! The formula was a little thick but very easy to apply. You can get this opaque on it's own (if you'd like to see it that way check out Kirsten's post here). I used 1 coat of Amortentia over Essie Ballet Slippers for the photos below.

Beauxbatons Academy is a milky off white base with bright blue, white and golden glitter mixed in. When I was getting ready to swatch these I was chatting with Kirsten and I asked if there were any layering combos she wanted to see, she said she wanted to see this one over purple so that's what I've done here. I gotta say, I am loving this combo...I think the dusty purple is a great base for this. I used 1 coat of Beauxbatons Academy over OPI Planks A Lot for the photos below. The formula was really nice, not thick and easy to apply. You can also build this up on it's own...I've worn it and loved it that way also!

Death Day Party is a complex multi colored shimmer/flake polish. This one is one of my favorites in the collection, there is so much going on in here. I found myself just moving my hand around and staring at my nails to see it shift between all the colors. The formula was great, the shimmer/flakes were nice and dense and gave great coverage over a base color. I used 1 coat over Nails Inc Black Taxi for the photos below. This combo kind of reminds me of Orly After Party...but if it was like 100 times more awesome.

Dementor's Kiss is red and black glitter in a clear base. Be still my heart, loving this color combo to pieces. I wish I had owned something like this back when No Doubt's Rock Steady album came out, this would have been the perfect mani for those concerts! The formula was really nice, it wasn't thick and the glitter coverage was great. I used 1 coat of Dementor's Kiss over OPI My Boyfriend Scales Walls for the photos below.

Durmstrang is black diamond and shard glitter in a shimmery sheer blue base. There is also a bit of a golden flash to the blue base that comes out depending on how you move you hand. As much as I want to love every polish in this collection this one just doesn't do much for me. I found the glitter to be a little bit of a pain to get onto the nail evenly, it kept wanting to bunch up all in one spot or just not come out of the bottle at all. I am happy with how it ended up looking though but application required some patience to get it that way. I used 2 coats of Durmstrang over Revlon Brilliant Strength Intrigue for the photos below.

Shade
Felix Felicis is a crazy golden top coat, there is all kinds of different golden things going on in here...everything from hex glitter to square glitter to tiny shimmer. This is a stunner, for someone like me who doesn't love gold I was like whoa when I put it on and loved it. The formula was great, for how dense it is glitter wise I was expecting it to be thick but it wasn't at all. I used 1 coat over Layla Ceramic Effect #40.

Hogwarts is a glitter explosion of orange, green, silver, blue and red glitter in a clear base. This sucker is whoa! If you like glitters like OPI Mad As A Hatter this is one you will like, the glitter is small but super dense and can easily be built up to full opacity on it's own. The formula was really great, this is another that I thought would be thick due to the abundance of glitter but it wasn't thick at all! The glitter coverage was great, you can build it up to be opaque on it's own in 3 coats most likely. I used 2 coats  over Layla Softouch Effect 01 for the photos below and I could barely see the base color peeking out.

Holidays in Hogsmeade is red, white and green glitter in a clear base. Such a perfect polish for the holidays! I wore the mani below for a few days and got a bunch of people asking me what it was, I'm  thinking I might wear this again over a green for Christmas next week! The formula was a little thick but easy to apply, the glitter payoff was pretty good at 1 coat but I decided to use 2 because I wanted a ton of glitter! I used 2 coats of Holidays in Hogsmeade over Nuance Rococo Red for the photos below.

The Horcrux of it... is a very sheer black jelly base packed with tiny green and copper glitter and bigger green hex glitter. I love this mix of glitter, copper and green are two of my favorite polish colors so when you put them together in glitter form I can't help but love it. The formula was just okay, I did have some issues getting the bigger hex glitter to want to come out of the bottle. I also noticed that the bigger green hexes were curled. I couldn't feel any texture of the glitter after top coat but the curling was obvious when looking at my nails. Still love this polish, curling glitter doesn't really bother me unless it makes the polish unwearable. I used 2 coats of The Horcrux Of It... over Zoya Veruschka for the photos below.

Weasley's Wizard Wheezes is orange and yellow matte glitter in a clear base. I am completely in love with this combo of glitter, it's just perfect. I've been feeling the need to layer it over everything and it seems to look good over everything. This is definitely my personal favorite of the collection! The formula was really nice, the glitter payoff was great without the polish being thick. I used 1 coat over Nails Inc Baker Street for the photos below.

  8. I love that orange/yellow glitter over the bright blue! I also like the concept of a green/copper glitter because I'm really into green/copper or green/gold right now. Too bad about the curling glitter though.
