Hi guys! Today I have Orly's Spring 2013 Collection to share with you! I'm pretty excited about these, I saw a promo image of them a little while ago and have been eagerly waiting to find them in real life since then. When I went to
ISSE over the weekend the Orly booth was literally my first stop as soon as I got into the show. I don't think I even stopped to look at anything in their booth I zoomed in on the Spring display and pretty much was like hai girl working the booth, I want one of each kthx. I'm pretty sure she was scared of me.
Anyway, the Hope and Freedom Collection brings us 6 new shades from Orly. 2 are cremes, 2 are shimmers and 2 are glitters. Check out all the swatches after the jump!
Boho Bonnet is a muted blue grey creme. I think this might be a dupe of Zoya Kristen which probably explains why I like the color so much, Kristen is one of my favorite polishes. The formula was really nice, it had a great consistency and was easy to apply. I used 2 coats for the photos below.

Coachella Dweller is a pale green creme. I really like this one, I wouldn't call it a pastel but it's a very nice subdued green...plus is doesn't give me lobster hands (always nice when that doesn't happen!) The formula was ok, it was a nice consistency but I found it to be a little sheer and streaky on the first coat. Most nails only needed 2 coats but I did need 3 to even it out completely on a couple nails.

Elation Generation is a pink jelly packed with holo glitter. This one is a stunner, photos aren't doing it justice...all the glitter bits you see are all rainbow-y and gorgeous but my camera just couldn't pick it up. The formula was good, a little on the thick side but very easy to apply and it had great opacity for being a jelly-ish base. I used 2 coats and top coat for the photos below.
High On Hope is a shimmery navy blue. This one is WOW, in the bottle it sort of looks like what you might get if you mixed Orly Space Cadet with a navy blue creme. I was a bit scared that this wouldn't translate onto the nail but I have to say, I'm not disappointed at all in how great the shimmer is on the nail. In the shade it has a faint multichrome to it...my camera captures it a bit more vividly than it looked in real life but I could see the shift in person. The formula was nice, a little on the thick side but again very easy to apply. I used 2 coats for the photos below.

Melodious Utopia is a yellow shimmer. I actually didn't think much of this when I first bought these, but then I took it out and saw some pretty sweet shimmer upon further inspection. There is a subtle pinky orange shimmer running throughout this. It's not super noticeable even out in the sun but it gives a nice sheen to the polish. The formula was pretty nice for a yellow, it was easy to apply and it wasn't very streaky. I used 2 coats for the photos below, if you do thin coats you'll most likely need 3 coats for full opacity.

Peaceful Opposition is a milky white packed with silver glitter. I am kind of loving the silver square glitter in this, I'm gonna need Orly to do more glitters with it! The formula was okay, it was a little thick and chunky because of the amount of glitter but it was relatively easy to apply. I did find it best to wait a few minutes between coats so that I didn't drag the glitter from the previous coat of polish off. I needed 3 coats to get this fully opaque, because of the thickness when I turned my hand to the side the polish looked very thick and a bit lumpy...I think this is probably best for layering because of that.

Overall I really like this collection, it's nice that it's a bit of a variety with the shades and finishes. My picks are High On Hope, Elation Generation and Melodious Utopia.
As far as availability goes I don't know when these will be available in stores like Sally Beauty Supply. When I asked the girl at the Orly booth she said she *thought* they would be available end of February/beginning of March!

Ooooooh <3 I love this collection!
ReplyDeleteReally cool! I'm glad to see Orly doing some unique colors for a spring collection.
ReplyDeleteUgh, I feel like I need all of these. The only one I think I could pass on is Boho Bonnet just because I already have Zoya Kristen, but I will wait for a comparison post to decide. lol.

ReplyDeleteI think this is interesting for a spring collection, not sure if I'm lemming anything but I like that Orly seems to be stepping out the of pastels for spring box.
ReplyDeleteI think I need all of these! When I saw the promo pics I didn't think much of it but they are stunners! I especially like High on Hope and Peaceful Opposition.
ReplyDeleteI like this collection a lot better than Zoya Lively. High on Hope will absolutely be mine :)
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone know how much these will cost? I don't think I've ever purchased any Orly polish.
ReplyDeleteLovely colours, I would love to have them all, except the yellow one, I don't like yellow on my nails.
ReplyDeletePeaceful opposition is nice. Too bad I've always had bad luck with Orly lasting on my nails :(
ReplyDeleteI have Peaceful Opposition and found it to be nice for wintry/snowy nail art. I used it as a background when I was going for a snowfall look. It worked nicely for that application.
ReplyDeleteHigh on Hope looks beautiful. I have many Orly's but they never seem to dry on my nails. Which base coat are you using? I think that might be the problem for me.
ReplyDeleteI think I was using a Deborah Lippmann basecoat for these swatches. I've never had any kind of issue with Orly drying on me
ReplyDeletePeaceful Opposition is beautiful - i LOVE it!
ReplyDeleteNice! I'm so glad you posted these - I was hoping you would when I saw yesterday's post :) I can't wait to see Elation Generation in person. They all look pretty lovely.
ReplyDeleteI was so excited to see your swatches of this collection. They look great!!! I literally gasped when I saw Elation Generation, it's so pretty. Peaceful opposition looks really nice too :)
ReplyDeleteI've been DYING for these polishes, thank you so much for the swatches!
ReplyDeleteI am loving this collection. I'm surprised with how much l like Elation Generation since I'm not usually a pink wearer. Melodious Utopia is so unique, I rarely see any kind of multi-color shimmer in yellows. I have Zoya Kristen so perhaps I don't need the blue one if you say they're pretty similar. How similar would you say Essie Navigate Her is to Coachella Dweller?
ReplyDeleteThank you for the swatches! Peaceful Opposition is so unique! Elation Generation is gorgeous as well! I'm wondering what Peaceful Opposition would look like layered? Thanks again for the beautiful pictures!
ReplyDeleteWow! Elation Generation, Melodious Utopia, and Peaceful Opposition are beautiful!! Thanks for swatching these right away, I was dying to see them!!!!!!!! Can't wait till they show up at Sally's!
ReplyDeleteAlso, in case you do a comparision post - do you know how Peaceful Opposition would compare to a sandwich of OPI Don't Touch My Tutu & Pirouette My Whistle?
I don't think that sandwich would be very similar, the glitter is very very different in Pirouette My Whistle
ReplyDeleteMy favorite shade is the pink jelly. The yellow looks interesting, too, but sadly yellows do not go well with my skin tone. Somehow High On Hope looks like a blue version of After Party from last years Spring collection to me?!
ReplyDeleteCoachella Dweller reminds me of Jessica Lime Cooler
ReplyDeleteI really like the pink jelly. I don't think I own a jelly polish yet.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for swatching these! I have been dying to see them! And they are gorgeous! :)
ReplyDeleteI dig it! All the colours are lovely. If I have to pick three I would choose: Melodious Utopia, High On Hope and Elation Generation.
ReplyDeleteI'm definitely going to have to get my hands on a bottle of boho bonnet. It reminds me so much of the discontinued "snowcone". I loved that shad of blue and this one is close enough that i have to have it.
ReplyDeleteGreat collection, I'm going to have the buy the entire set now lol. Loving Peaceful Opposition. Is the base very milky so that it should only be layered over white, or do you think it might look good over some other colors too?
ReplyDeleteWhat is the name of the dark purple shimmer one that is below the dark blue one? It just says "shade" below the picture with no description.
ReplyDeleteIt's the same polish as the photos above it, High on Hope. It says "shade" because the photo is in the shade.
ReplyDeleteI think you could definitely layer it over other colors also, I haven't tried it yet though!
ReplyDeleteWeird, it looks like a completely different color. blues and purples always photograph strangely.
ReplyDeleteIt's completely different lighting, that's why it looks so different.
ReplyDeleteSo the first one is with a flash? or Is it in plain sunlight? Sunlight would seem to show it's truest color.
ReplyDeleteany photo not labelled as shade is in natural sunlight
ReplyDeleteI was also wondering how Coachella Dweller compared to the Essie, too!
ReplyDeleteOMG these polishes are gorgeous!! I saw the promo pics, and I wasn't really excited with them. Definitely glad I saw the swatches! I think I'll be getting all of them, except maybe Peaceful Opposition.
ReplyDeleteI neeeeed Elation Generation! It's a gorgeous color for Spring/Summer :)
ReplyDeleteElation Generation and Peaceful Opposition are very unique
ReplyDeleteI like the variation in finishes - Elation Generation and High on Hope look gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteDang girl, you work fast! I just got the mini set which has all of them except boho bonnet and peaceful opposition. I'm wearing Coachella Dweller now and had the same problem and needed 3 coats...I did think it was because of the lame mini bottle brush but I guess not!
ReplyDeleteThat white glitter looks good though thick, indeed if you layer it it'll be gorgeous I think!
ReplyDeleteI need this collection in my life! Elation Generation looks amazing!
ReplyDeleteI like glitters that are sheer, simply because they are a great addition to any color and doubles as a top coat! My manicure lasts longer thisaway (in the chipping area that is) :)
ReplyDeleteI think they did, I thought it was weird too but I'm not going to question it because I think the new bottles are ugly lol
ReplyDeleteElation generation seems somehow 80s in a good way. I also like Peaceful Opposition, how unusual and pretty. Somehow bridal without being a wedding polish, hmm what to wear it with? a romantic casual or soft black lace top with blue jeans?
ReplyDeleteBonnet & Coachella look pretty cool too though its hard to find the right shade for everyone. coachella would be awesome for summer.
I bought this entire set 3 weeks ago at my local SALLY Beauty! I love them all! They even came in the new bottle design (which at first I didn't like, but it has grown on me, and now I prefer it)! I do have a question (something I recently saw on another blog that you also posted here), what are lobster hands?? Does is have to do with green polish?
ReplyDeleteThey average around $8 per bottle.
ReplyDeletelobster hands are when you wear a polish that makes your skin look red. Usually minty blues and greens do it to me!
ReplyDeleteElation Generation and High On Hope need to come home to me now!
