ISSE Long Beach 2013!

Hi guys! Today I have some photos from ISSE to share with you. I went to ISSE over the weekend and it was fantastic! In case you don't know what ISSE it's the International Salon & Spa Expo. It's a trade show for the latest and greatest in hair and nails. There are also a few more general beauty exhibitors there like Crown Brush & NYX. ISSE is a pro only trade show meaning you have to have a cosmetology license in order to attend. It's pretty neat overall, there are a lot of new products and tons of demos, education and competitions plus great shopping. I think they do an ISSE Midwest also but I'm not sure if they do more than those 2 shows.

This post is VERY picture heavy so the majority of it will be after the jump!

My favorite booth of the show this year was OPI, it was huge! Not only was it eye candy because of all the polish but they had a big jumbo tron like thing above their booth that played clips of OPI photoshoots and had their logo flashing and stuff. It was awesome.

Next up is the Essie booth, a rainbow of prettyness!

The NYX booth was pretty impressive too, it had 4 sides and they all looked like this. It was a little overwhelming. However, I was actually a bit disappointed in them. They didn't have ANY of their polish at the show which I found pretty odd given the whole focus of ISSE is hair and nails.
Another favorite booth, the Jessica booth. Their floor was holographic, enough said.

Last up is Orly's booth...they had the same set up as last year but that doesn't stop it from being all sorts of awesome. I love the way they have their polishes set up.

There were a ton of other great booths there but those were my favorites!

On to everything I bought! I had been seriously stashing away money for this for a few months because I knew I'd probably buy a bunch...you really can't beat the discounts at shows like this. Good thing I did because I went a lil crazy haha!

Small disclaimer...some of the polish colors in these bottle shots are not 100% accurate. My DSLR and I are still getting to know each other and I fail at working it sometimes. No worries though, I will swatch everything and those photos will be accurate!

First up my biggest splurge of the show. I'm sure you've heard of the brand Azature right? No? Azature makes a polish that costs $250,000 and is made of real black diamonds...that's how I had heard of them before the show. In addition to that insanely priced polish Azature also makes other polish including 1 that looks identical to the $250,000 polish but costs a whole heck of a lot less. I ended up buying a beautiful emerald glitter called Azature Green. There were a few other colors, all inspired by different colors of diamonds but the green is what caught my eye. Mr. Azature himself was actually at ISSE and he even signed my bottle :D Like I said, this was my biggest nail polish splurge of the show, these polishes retail for $25 but were on sale for $20 at the show.

I picked up a few polishes from China Glaze. Sadly, they didn't have any of the new collections out to buy but I did get a peek at them and I am SO excited for everything China Glaze has coming out this year...just sayin'. I hear that Halloween and Holiday should be all kinda of fantastical...I can't wait! The first thing I got was a new base and top coat...they were 2 for $5!

Next I picked up a few older polishes that I just never got around to buying before. I got Dress Me Up, Side Saddle, Peachy Keen, Re-Fresh Mint, Flirty Tankini, Ruby Pumps and Splish Splash.

Next I stopped by a booth of a brand I'd never heard of called Color Secrets. They had a ton of beautiful polishes and they were all named after movies. I'm pretty excited to try them out! The colors I bought were Sound of Music, Cinema Paradiso, The Breakfast Club, It's A Wonderful Life and the 2 greens don't have tags so I'll have to look the names up for them once I get around to swatching them!

Next up is Crown Brush. There were a few brushes I wanted to pick up from them at IMATS but it was too cray there so I decided to just wait until ISSE to get them since it's much easier to actually shop. I got a big fan brush, a cute kabuki brush, a fluffy crease bush, a chiseled blush brush and 2 brushes that look like Crown's version of the Sigma F80 and P80

Next I stopped by the Essie booth, again nothing new here but I did pick up a few older Essie's I had on my list. Some of these were long time lemmings and a couple were ones I only had in mini sizes and recently destashed because I don't like Essie minis very much. I got Turquoise & Caicos, Watermelon, Fiji, Chubby Cheeks, Bikini So Teeny and Mojito Madness.

Next I got some hair stuff, I picked up a bottle of Paul Mitchell Heat Protectant, Frizz styling spray and a Deep Repair Masque from Macadamia. I'm pretty excited about the Macadamia Masque, I've heard amazing things about it and the discounts at their booth were whoa. I paid $12 for it and at stores like Ulta that size retails for $33! I've already tried it which you might be able to see from the photo...I like it so far! However I do have to say the guy that helped me at their booth was SO RUDE when I mentioned I was a blogger. I almost didn't buy the masque because of it but I'm glad I did since I do like it.

I also picked up a new flat iron and clipless curling iron from Hot Tools. These were actually the #1 items on my list to get at ISSE this year...I needed a new flat iron like nobody's business and a clipless curling iron has been on my list to buy for months.

Next up is another new to me polish brand, I don't think these are actually even available yet. I *think* the girl that was helping me told me they would be out at pro stores like Cosmoprof in March. I'm not sure about the availability other than that but I'll do my best to find out before I post swatches of these. The colors I picked up are Truth or Dare, Make Me Blush, Fame Game, Lost In Paradise, Dress Up and Under The Stars.

You know I couldn't walk past the NYX booth and not get anything...right? Of course no nail polish but I picked up a few makeup items.   From top left to right and down I got a new eyelash curler, eyeshadow base in the color "skin tone" (love this stuff, this is my second pot of it), blotting sheets that are infused with salicylic acid because they sounded neat...we shall see! An eyeshadow trio number TS15 (I think?). I got 2 of their color lip balms...the colors I got are Spasibo and Shukran. I also got a concealer, a Jumbo Eye Pencil in Yogurt and 2 soft matte lip creams (love these!) in the colors Stockholm and San Paulo. The last 2 things I got are a matte bronzer in MBB01 Light and a bronzer & blush combo in BBC03 Marbella.

Next up I found a Cosmoprof booth which had a lot of haircare and nail stuff (it's where I got the Paul Mitchell and Frizz products from also). They had bins of polish and they were $2.50 each...yeah...$2.50. I died a little. I ended up getting a back up of OPI My Boyfriend Scales Walls and 3 SpaRitual polishes. The SpaRitual's are Fickle, It's Raining Men and Flower Child.

They also had some random OPI DS shades and different treatments. I died a bit when I looked at the OPI DS's and found a bottle of DS Desire. I also picked up a couple others but they are gifts for someone who might read this post. I also grabbed a bottle of SpaRitual's cuticle remover.

My first stop at ISSE was the Orly booth, I was hoping they would have their Spring Collection out. I've seen a couple promo images for it and was dying to see it in person. Good news, they had it and it is SO MUCH BETTER in real life. I seriously cannot wait for you guys to see these on the nail, bottle shots don't do them justice. The colors are Coachella Dweller, Peaceful Opposition, Elation Generation, High On Hope, Melodious Utopia and Boho Bonnet. I'll have swatches of these up soon!

Seche had their own booth at ISSE this year. They only had their core colors out but they do have some new collections that will be out for Spring and Summer. I got a peek at them and they are both beautiful! They will also be adding a bunch more polishes to their core collection that I'm pretty excited to see. The colors I bought are Empress Debutant, Portobello, Precious, Porcelain II and Lumiere.

Last but not least I stopped by the Venique booth and met with them to learn about the brand. They gave me a few polishes to try out including their base and top coat. The colors are Reels of Fun and Acting Is Living. I'm not sure of the name of the mini but I'll let you guys know what it is when I post swatches.

Whew, if you made it through this post I should give you a pat on that back...it was a doozy! ISSE was such a great experience, I'm really lucky that I get to attend as a member of the press. I enjoyed watching the demos and hearing about new products. I can't wait until next year!

  1. Wow, amazing! Loved the purchases!! Were you able to go on a press pass or do they also allow bloggers to go?

  4. I'm so jealous of your full-size macadamia hair masque! I am obsessed with all of their macadamia products, and I love the scent of their hair oil! Hope you love it too!

  5. O-M-G. My jaw dropped at the sight of these pictures. That Azature color is beautiful, amazing, breathtaking, lovely, gorgeous, etc!!!

  6. I have the macadamia masque treatment and I think it is only ok. It doesn't do a whole lot for my curly hair, and I think I can get better stuff at target at a cheaper cost. Do you have curly hair? Maybe I need to use it more than once a week. It is just not thick enough for me - I find I have to use more than a drugstore brand version, thereby depleting it faster and wasting the cost.

Why don't they like bloggers? You are the ones that get people to buy their products? Weird.

I find myself wondering what they have in blue, since I love blue the way you love green! On a side note: I'm a massive fan of your blog and I don't think I'll buy any nail polish without seeing it swatched online...that way no more disappointments! Thanks for the pics and your blog!

    1. Only other thing is IMATS (international makeup artist trade show) and i think maybe 1 of the days non-pros can go but its like at least $30 thru around/over $100 if you wanna go more than 1 day
