China Glaze Hologlam Collection Swatches

Hi guys, hope you all had a good weekend. Today I have swatches of the China Glaze Hologlam Collection to share with you! I'm sure most of us have been waiting and waiting for these to finally come out, I know I have! Hologlam is 12 new holographic shades form China Glaze, I think they must have gotten tired of all of us asking for them to re-release the OMG Collection haha! I was a little worried about getting my paws on these, luckily I ended up receiving them for review...I'm sure the guy at my local beauty supply is happy that I wont' be calling every other day now asking if he's gotten them in yet!

For swatches & reviews of each shade click the read more button below!

For all of these polishes I would suggest using either an aqua base coat (like Nfu Oh's Aqua Base) or a ridge filling base coat. I found that with regular base coat these showed every imperfection in the nail. I didn't really care for the formula on most of these, some of the darker colors were ok but the majority of polishes in this collection were tricky to apply. I had a lot of issues with them balding if I went over a spot twice. If you have any of the OMG Collection polishes they are much improved from those in the formula department but not nearly as nice to apply as the holos Color Club has been putting out. They were better with an Aqua Base but still not as nice as I would have hoped for. I tried several of these with top coat and didn't have any issues with it dulling the holo once the top coat was completely dry. All photos in this post are without top coat and in direct natural sunlight.

Astro-Hot is a lavender leaning light pink. I used 2 coats for the photos below.

Cosmic Dust is a light silvery grey. I used 3 coats for the photos below.

Don't Be A Luna-tic is a light blue/green, it leans a little more green than it was wanting to photograph. I used 2 coats for the photos below.

Galactic Gray is a dark gray holo. The holo on this one was one of the best in the collection! I used 3 coats for the photos below.

Get Outta My Space is a light pink toned lilac. I used 2 coats for the photos below.

Infra Red is a really pretty magenta!  I used 2 coats for the photos below.

Not In This Galaxy is a medium orangey pink. I used 2 coats for the photos below.

OMG A UFO is a golden green. This is another one of the stronger holos in the collection, probably my favorite of the bunch! I used 2 coats for the photos below.

Sci-Fly By is a light blue. I used 2 coats for the photos below.

Strap On Your Moonboots is a dark blue. This reminds me of denim, I wish I had some holo denim pants...that would be pretty sweet! I used 2 coats for the photos below.

Take A Trek is a medium blue. This one is also a bit denim-y, I used 2 coats for the photos below.

When Stars Collide is a dark maroon. This was another one of the stronger holos! I used 2 coats for the photos below.

Overall I'm not as thrilled as I thought I would be with this collection. The holo is pretty weak in most of the shades and even the strong ones aren't *that* fantastical. Maybe I'm just spoiled because there are so many great strong holos available from brands like Color Club, Layla and several indie sellers...these just don't do much for me. The retail price for these is $14 a bottle, much higher than normal China Glaze due to the pigment used to make these. For that price I just couldn't justify buying these, I'd rather spend the extra $1 for Layla or spend $4 less for Color Club.

If you don't want an in your face linear holo then these will probably be your cup of tea but if you want cray cray rainbows like whoa these won't be something you'll want to spend your money on. I do love that China Glaze listened to us and gave us more holos I just wish they were stronger. My picks from the collection are OMG A UFO, When Stars Collide and Galactic Gray.

The Hologlam Collection will be available in stores in April, however it's already online at places like Sally Beauty Supply, Nail Polish Canada, Amazon etc...

  1. Galatic Grey looks awesome but the rest are a bit of a disappointment. Thanks for your swatches they are so beautifully shot (and don't appear photoshopped unlike others I've seen!); and your comments are always really helpful. Love your blog, I stalk it waiting for updates all the time!

I'm so glad you mentioned that these need an aqua base coat because that's my experience too, but many other reviews just failed to mention that. I like that these have subtle holo effect because that makes them more wearable imho.

  3. Thank you so much for the great swatches! For the higher price, I don't see myself buying very many of these, given their relatively weaker holo effect, but I'm definitely going to bring home OMG a UFO, and possibly Moonboots.

  4. Great Swatches like usual! I heard rumors that the holo wasn't that strong and well I gotta say i'm happy because i no longer have the need to want to buy them all. Hooray for my wallet!

  5. $14...really? If u love polish like I do...and if you r a collector like I am. But on a super tight budget...this really pisses u off. Sorry for the language....however...sometimes I feel like giving up on my polish addiction. Because companies do this to us. I've been waiting forever for these...only to be screwed by price point. I mean if Color Club can offer theirs for $10 what's the deal here???? Really sad about this...

  6. Am I glad to see this review! It's just on time too. I am headed out to do some shopping and had OMG a UFO on my list along with Galactic Galaxy and a couple of others I was on the fence about. After reading your reviews and seeing the swatches, and at that price point, I will only be bringing home 2 of these babies. Thanks for the timely review! (And wonderful pics!)

  7. The swatches are pretty and initially I thought I wanted all - if only to be sure I didn't miss out on another collecters item collection. But, after trying 3 and realizing they are quite expensive I am sure I don't need all. They are just not worth it!

  8. The more pictures I see, the more disappointed with the collection I am. Too many good holos out there (A-England is another good brand to look to) at similar or lower price points to bother with these. I suppose they make an alternative for those who don't want to shop online, but meh.

    ReplyDelete
  9. I think I prefer the Color Club ones..let's see if I can get those online!

  10. "I wish I had some holo denim pants" lmao!!
i like Galactic Gray and Strap on Your Moonboots, but i doubt i'll be purchasing any. thanks for the review!

  11. Thanks for the swatches! I think $14 is a ridiculous price for these. I wouldn't buy any at that price, but I was able to get the whole collection on Ebay for really cheap. I love all kinds of holos so I can't wait to get these. I know a lot of people are disappointed in this collection, but I'm still pretty excited about it.

  12. Glad I bought the silver Layla holo & did not wait for these to come out!

  13. I love your posts, seriously just helped me make up my mind to leave these on my wish list or not. lol I'm not big on holos, and esp at $14...I'd rather get some indies. Though transdesign has them coming soon for $6.45, I'd still rather pass. Thanks for the help.

  14. Thanks for a fantastic review. If the effect is anything like Nubar Reclaim, I think I will love these. I'm in the minority I know, but the CC holos are way too blinding for me. I like looking at photos on but not on me. I have 3 or 4 CC and each time I put one on, I end up taking it off the same day. I probably need to "graduate" to the CC holos! Btw, you can get these for $9 or 10 at Sally's, and less w/online retailers, which is what I did. But with shipping added, each comes out to about 8 or 9 anyway -- still way better than MSRP.

  15. I am waiting for sci fly by in the post, i would buy color club if i could get them on amazon. quite like the astro-hot as well

  16. These retails for $6.30 on 8ty8 Beauty! No need to spend $14 for them. I love Strap on your moonboots, it's such a gorgeous colour. Yet to try out the others, although I have swatched them all on my blog. The weartime on Soymb was pretty good though, 2 days without any significant chipping which is great for a holo imo.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Most of these are much weaker than Nubar Reclaim unfortunately

    ReplyDelete
  18. Weaker than Reclaim?! Wow. No offense to anyone but that really surprises me. I have two from the Tronica collection, which are nice for when you want something a little different, but I don't even consider them to be holo. Are these stronger than the Tronica collection?

    ReplyDelete
  19. oh well... thanks for your reply (you are one hardworking girl!)

    ReplyDelete
  20. They are much better than Tronica (those were such a fail IMO). I think the only one in the collection on par with the holo in Reclaim are Galactic Gray and possibly OMG A UFO, the others are meh

    ReplyDelete
  21. I bought the whole collection and even tho the holo isn't "in-your-face" as some other brands it's still a nice collection to have. The holo's aren't as strong as others because these holo particles are a lot finer then what other brands use. I have never used an aqua base or a ridge filler with my holo polishes. All I do is buff my nails and use my go-to base which is China Glaze's Strong Adhesion Base Coat.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I agree, these holos are disappointing!

    ReplyDelete
  23. Glad you like them! Buffing your nails can be damaging so I opt for an Aqua Base or ridge filler instead.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Oh gosh they're so so pretty. Galactic Grey, Strap On Your Moonboots and When Stars Collide are going straight onto my wishlist.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Thanks for the response and the honest review. I may pick up When Stars Collide, but will wait to see it in person.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I'm glad China Glaze tried to re-do their holos, although now obviously there are so many on the market. I think I'll pass but they are all pretty!

    ReplyDelete
  27. not really impressed, I wanted this collection to wow me... but it didn't :(

    ReplyDelete
  28. I DO like a few from this collection, I think the darker shades are a nice change from the usual pastel holos that we often see. And I like that the holo in the stronger ones is visible but doesn't overwhelm the base colour. When Stars Collide, Strap On Your Moonboots, and Infra Red are my favorites.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I'm glad you were upfront with the formula issues. I don't have much patience for tricky formulas so I'm not in such a hurry to buy these anymore.

    ReplyDelete
  30. They retail 8.99 at Sally's before using your card.

    ReplyDelete
  31. thanks for the info :) $14 is the suggested retail price so I'm sure the price will vary from store to store

    ReplyDelete
  32. I will definetely buy darks, I think only darker shades are original. But the whole collection is great :-)

    ReplyDelete
  33. I'm liking Infra-Red and When Stars Collide, but I was definitely hoping to be more thrilled with this collection, and I'm just not really :(

    ReplyDelete
  34. OMG a UFO and Galactic Gray are in my wish list!!

    ReplyDelete
  35. They look a little less exciting than I expected. I'll stick with the Color Club! Your swatches are spectacular.

    ReplyDelete
  36. The colours are so beautiful and glamorous... but the holographic is almost nonexistent. I'm disappointed!

    ReplyDelete
  37. You stay on top of your nail polish game! Caught your interview with Nail It! magazine and I must admit, I too have a music obsession! Check out the interview here: http://www.nailitmag.com/nail-art-how-to/nail-bloggers-jenn-karr-the-polishaholic/bloggers-you-should-know-jen-karr

  38. I heard they were 8.99 after using your card at Sally's! Strange!

    ReplyDelete
  39. Ah poop. I was hoping for a fantastical, strong holo from China Glaze. Good to know these aren't worth the money. Thanks for the swatches!

Galactic Gray looks SO much better than the holo version of OPI's My Private Jet, for anyone who may be wondering. Think I'll be picking up at least this shade when they come out at my nearby Sally's.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Such a great review!!

    ReplyDelete
  42. Interesting! I read in another blog that buffing your nails is a good thing for holo polishes! I'll will for sure pick up a ridge filler next time I'm at Sally's. Thanks for the tip!

    ReplyDelete
  43. If you're not doing it all the time it's fine but I wouldn't make a habit of it since buffing removes layers of your nails...it can make them thin/weak if you do it too much

    ReplyDelete
  44. I'll probably get When Stars Collide, Strap on Your Moon Boots and Infra Red. I have my $10 birthday coupon from Sally's so I have to spend it on something! I hope they have the ones I want. I called and they got them in yesterday. They haven't put them out but said I could ask for them.

  46. wow and I was SOOO excited and couldnt wait for these to come out. Now they just seem so meh now, China Glaze really missed the mark on this, how? I have no Idea cause they rocked the holo so well in the OMG collection. Guess they wanted us to give more for so much less..well thats not going to happen. I think I might skip these all together now. I do have layla and the holo is outstanding, however, the formula sucks..goes on very patchy and leaves bald spots.

    ReplyDelete
  47. round of applause for honesty - well done xx

    ReplyDelete
  48. Just received 5 of these from head2toebeauty.com and let me just say.....where is the holo???? I know it would be subtle but man.....what poor job of trying bring your customers some holos....I was comparing it to my other holos and was just smh. I would go far as to say that I was squinting my eyes to see trying to find some...such as Don't Be A Luna-Tic....I would go far as to say...they r just really pretty chromes. I wouldn't even put HolographIC in the bottle....

I wish I would have seen this (even though it wasn't posted yet) last sunday before I ordered 2 sets of this collection... :(

    ReplyDelete
  50. Thanks for the honest review and the swatches especially. I'm underwhelmed. Color Club's 2013 collection is far stronger and more affordable. There's also Layla, Jade & HITS to look to.

    ReplyDelete
  51. I am so disappointed in these...I have been waiting for these since I read that they were coming. :( I put off buying the Color Club holos for these...now off to hunt down the Color Club holos. Thank you very much for these swatches.

  55. I am definitely calling this the Holo-Blah collection!

  56. Sally Beauty Supply has a lot of these on clearance this weekend only. I live in Dallas

  57. I was a bit disappointed in the collection, too. For me, in addition to the lame level of holo of most of the polishes,
there was not enough variety in the colors -- kind of a lazy design,
    IMO.

There were, what, 4-5 blues (depending whether you counted the blue in Cosmic Dust) and 3-4 pinks (personally, I think of Not in this Galaxy more as a coral than pink, but I can see that people would class it in the pink ranges). As far as I'm concerned, there were only 3 or 4 out of 12 that didn't fall in either the blue or the pink range. And the pinks & blues weren't even that unique. I did <3 When Stars Collide, and one of my friends was mad for Galactic Grey, with the slight slate brown in it. OMG a UFO is a nice color (& we all loved the name around here). And, as a coral fan, I like Not in this Galaxy.

I don't mind blues or pinks, but there are tons of them around. How about something a little more unique in those colors? But, better yet, try moving into more color families, China Glaze.

What about a holo in lemon yellow, flaming orange, emerald green, even a cobalt blue. Black, even? True red? Haven't seen a good chocolate or cinnamon holo from Ch. Glaze. Heck, I haven't seen a good cinnamon holo from anyone that I can think of right
    now.

So, while I like these, the collection was just OK as far as I'm concerned....

(Thanks for the great pix, as always!)
