Friday Favorites #9: How to Follow Blogs

Hi guys! In case you haven't heard (i'm sure you have lol) Google Reader is going away on July 1st 2013, I know a lot of people use it to follow blogs so I thought I'd do a Friday Favorites about other ways to follow once Google Reader is gone. It seems like there are bajillion ways to follow blogs so this might be lengthy, if you use something I didn't mention let me know in the comments and I'll update the post!

Click the read more button to check out the rest of this post!

If any of the links in this post don't work please let me know!

Facebook- This is one my more active posting places, I update every time I post. I also sometimes share articles or other fun nail polish things. It's also a great place to look through swatches since I upload most of them on there (although I am terribly behind on that). The PolishAholic Facebook page can be found at www.facebook.com/ThePolishAholic.

Just a note, if you "like" my page on Facebook make sure to click on "like" after you have liked the page and then make sure "Show In News Feed" is checked. Facebook doesn't always show you what the pages you like post so that's the way to make sure you are actually seeing my posts!

Twitter- I'm always on twitter, most of the time I'm tweeting nonsense but I also tweet my blog posts and other nail related things. If you want to come chat you can find me at www.twitter.com/ThePolishAholic

Bloglovin- Bloglovin is very similar to Google Reader, it seems like a ton of people have already started moving over to it. I believe they even have some kind of tool you can use to import the blogs you were following with Google Reader into their system. You can find me there at www.bloglovin.com/en/blog/1908094/the-polish-aholic/follow

Google +- I don't really understand how to use Google + but I do make sure to share every post there!
You can find The PolishAholic Google+ here: https://plus.google.com/115927273949819550220/posts

Hello Cotton- I'm not super familiar with Hello Cotton either but all my posts automatically update there and it seems very much like Bloglovin'. The PolishAholic can be found here: http://www.hellocotton.com/mypage/thepolishaholic

Networked Blogs - This is also very much like Bloglovin' (I wasn't kidding when I said there was a bajillion ways to follow blogs). The PolishAholic Networked Blogs page can be found here: www.networkedblogs.com/blog/the_polish_aholic

Instagram- I love me some Instagram, I don't normally update everyday linking to posts here but I post a lot of NOTD's and other random stuff like photos of Degen and things I find shopping! Check out my Instagram here: www.instagram.com/thepolishaholic

GFC- GFC aka Google Friend Connect contrary to popular belief is not the same as Google Reader, as far as I know Google hasn't given it the axe just yet. If you follow blogs with GFC you can read through them by visiting blogger.com To follow The PoilshAholic with GCF check out the little widget for it in the right sidebar!

Email is another great way to follow blogs, I have mine set up to email my new post every day in the morning. You can sign up using the little box below (which hopefully is working), if the box below doesn't work there is a widget in the right sidebar for this also.

Feedly- Last but not least is Feedly, I hadn't heard about this until the mass hysteria when news about Google Reader going away came out but it seems like the most comparable program. Bonus: It has apps for your phone(both android and iphone)/ipad. I like it just for that reason. Feedly also has the ability to import your Google Reader list so it's very simple to switch over, Feedly even has a whole blog post on how to do it which you can see by clicking here. I *think* this is a direct link to The PolishAholic Feedly but in case it doesn't work you should be able to find it by clicking Add Website and then just searching The PolishAholic

Hope this post was helpful for you guys, I'm sure you've seen a bunch of them lately. If you have another app or website you like for following blogs let me know in the comments!

I also shared the different sites with my followers as well. A few mentioned "Feedly" is a nice platform. HTH :)

I love bloglovin. I think it's as good as Google Reader. When Google Reader is going away Bloglovin will be my go to site when reading blogs.

  7. Great post! Thanks! I really needed this, I just heard about the google reader nonsense and was kind of panicked. Lol, I hope you don't mind if I copy your idea and do a similar post on my own blog to let my readers know about all these options. :)

  8. Feedly is the one that I'm struggling with. It's easy to use, but hard to add blogs to your list. The link you posted didn't work for me, it sent me to the App Store even though I already have Feedly. They really need to figure out the one click link like Bloglovin or hellocotton.

  9. Thank you for posting this! I hadn't heard yet, but had already started using Bloglovin because of their great app. Now I've taken care of importing the rest of the blogs I follow, so I won't miss anything! Much appreciated for the heads up!

  10. I use the thing that's on the Blogger home page that isn't Google Reader. I don't think it really has a name.

i have a question for you, do your readers need to subscribe to feedly via your blog to get it there like with other RSS?
