Essie Resort 2013 Collection Swatches & Comparisons

Hi guys! Today I have Essie's Resort Collection for ya! I stumbled upon these the other day while I was at Rite Aid and couldn't resist, I managed to talk myself out of the Essie Spring Collection but the green and blue in this collection were just too pretty for me to say no to. Essie's Resort Collection for this year is 4 pretty shades, 3 of them are light but bright which I really enjoy and 1 I bought just so I could show you the whole collection...totally normal right?
Check out all the swatches and a few comparisons by clicking the read more button below!

All swatches in this post are in natural sunlight, it was a bit cloudy when I was swatching these so you can see cloud reflections in some of the shots...sorry about that!

Come Here! is a red/orange creme. This is the one that didn't really do much for me in the store but I like it on, it leans more towards orange than I thought it was going to. The formula was great, it was nice and creamy...a breeze to apply! I used 2 coats for the photos below.

Below is Come Here! vs Essie Ole Caliente. I thought for sure these would be dupes, they are very close but not exact. Ole Caliente is a shade or two darker and it leans more red. The difference is slight but I could tell them apart on the nail, at least in person...it's not as obvious in photos. I used 2 coats for each polish for the photos below.

First Timer is a minty green. This one didn't disappoint, sure mint is nothing spectacular but this is a nice one and it doesn't give me lobster hands which is rare! The formula was ok, I found it a little hard to control for some reason, it kept wanting to pool in my cuticles. The opacity was nice though so I can't complain too much. I used 2 coats for the photos below.

Below is First Timer vs Essie Mojito Madness and Essie Turquoise & Caicos. Clearly no dupes between these 3, they aren't even close. I used 2 coats of First Timer and Mojito Madness and 3 coats of Turquoise & Caicos for the photos below.

P.S. isn't it weird how First Timer looks much lighter when you put it between those 2 shades than it does on it's own. I think so....or maybe my eyes are just playing tricks on me!

In The Cab-ana is a dusty but bright blue. I feel like we've seen a lot of this kind of blue this year and that's a-ok with me! The formula was really nice, easily my favorite of the collection! I used 2 coats for the photos below.  Apologies for only 1 photo, this color was hard to photograph :(

Below is In The Cab-ana vs OPI Can't FInd My Czechbook and Essie Where's My Chauffeur. No dupes between these 3 but if you aren't crazy for blues and you already have Can't Find My Czechbook you could probably pass on In The Cabana. Can't FInd My Czechbook is a few shades darker and a bit more dusty but definitely in the same family. Where's My Chauffeur is much more green than the other 2! I used 2 coats for each polish.

Under Where? is a light pink toned purple. I really like this shade but man...the formula left a lot to be desired. This was a bit of a crelly type formula but I found it to be really uneven and it didn't level out very well even with a nice top coat. I used 3 coats for full opacity.

Below is Under Where? vs Essie Play Date. I thought these 2 would be a little closer than they are, Under Where? reminded me a lot of Play Date when I saw these in the store. I think it was just the crap lighting at Rite Aid because really they aren't much alike at all. Play Date is quite a bit darker and not as pastel as Under Where? Formula wise Play Date is also like 1000 times better! I used 2 coats of Play Date and 3 coats of Under Where? for the photo below.

Overall I like this little 4 piece collection, In the Cab-ana and First Timer are the reason I bought these and they are just as pretty on the nail as in the bottle. Hope the comparisons were helpful also!

Essie's Resort 2013 Collection is available now, I found mine at Rite Aid for $8 a bottle!

  1. Great swatches, as always! And thanks for including the comparisons. I was curious if First Timer was close to Turquoise & Caicos. :D

  3. Just bought Come Here! and In the Cab-ana. Love them both. Thanks for showing the comparison of the green. I wasn't sure if it was close to Turquoise and Caicos (my favorite color). It's a good medium. Might have to go back and buy. :)

  4. I really like this collection; it's a shame my two favorite shades (First Timer and Under Where?) seem to have problematic formulas.
I LOVE the comparisons--keep them coming, please! I can't wait to see comparisons between these colors and polishes in the Essie DJ, Play That Song collection; some of them look similar and I shouldn't *really* buy all of them. Your comparisons are extremely helpful!

Oh I'm so glad you did comparisons! That helped me out a lot. I'll definite be going to get these colors now that I know they're not the same as my others I already have.

  11. I want all the blue shades! Oh my, I just think of a pool every time I look at those shades! Makes me want it to be summer already. Let's skip spring and just dive into summer! Hope I can get my hands on those two! :)

  14. Awesome comparisons! I have this collection. I couldn't resist either; beautiful colors for the season.

  15. I can confirm that Cab-ana is not a dupe for Essie Shelter Island either! My friend and I both have both polishes and they are in the same family, but neither of us would call them dupes.

Awesome comparisons! I just saw the display at Walgreens today and wanted to see swatches before making a purchase. Thank you for posting comparisons. I have those same polishes mentioned and would have regretted buying colors so similar..

  19. I like In the Cab-ana and First Timer as well! Kind of want Come Here also, in person it looked like a bright coral red with pinkish tones which was kind of cute! Just not sure how it compares to AA Poppy because I feel like it would be similar...

  30. I've only seen the collection at Rite Aid so far and they've only had the 4 piece display. Looks like even the etailers like Transdesign only have these 4. Have you looked on Amazon? That's usually my go to when I can't find polishes in store

    ReplyDelete
  31. Come Here looks almost identical to Camera in the bottle.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Great swatches! I've found your pics to be the most color accurate of ANY beauty blogger. LOVE THAT. I'm wearing Under Where? and your swatches are spot on. I was surprised to hear you had issues with the formula. I have it on right now and it applied like a dream. Go figure.

  33. Could you compare Under Where? from the resort collection to Bond With Whomever from the Spring collection?!

I just broke open my own In the Cab-Ana.... and the formula is SUPER thick - almost too much to work with! I've found that I like my polishes a bit on the thinner side but this seemed a bit much. Yours was really just fine??

    ReplyDelete
  36. nope mine was fine, have you tried thinning yours?

    ReplyDelete
  37. I just bought Cab-ana and Come Here! Thanks for the beautiful swatches (:

  38. First of all, thank you for all your polish pix -- they are a great resource when I'm thinking of buying things online I can't find in stores nearby!! :D Really appreciate the comparisons you did here (and in other posts). Essie has so many of the light lavender-periwinkle-lilac-y purples in their cremes and basically-cremes (that is, the ones where the shimmer's so hidden you can't really see it IRL), I'd love to see a comparison of Under Where, Lilacism, Full Steam Ahead, Go Ginza, and any others you might have in this range by them. Same w/all the ones that are in the same color depth, but are more pinky than lavender/lilac-y, like Madison Ave-hue, etc. It seems like Essie has had a color in the lavender-lilac-peri family, the mid-pink family, and the milky/Tiffany turquoise family in so many of their collections lately! (Even the purple from the Neons collection is very lilac-y once it's out of the bottle and on my nails!) BTW -- what do you think of First Timer vs. the green in Zoya's new summer creme collection (I forget the name right now) -- you must have those, right? Thanks again -- from a fellow polish-a-holic!

  39. Did you top coat it? I've heard that top coat mellows it out a bit, my swatch is without top coat.

    ReplyDelete
  40. WARNING to people buying these In The Cab-ana is really pretty but stained my nails so make sure to use a base coat!
