LA Girl 3D Effects: Brilliant Blue & Teal Dimension

Hi guys! Sorry for the short unexpected break for the last few days. If you follow me on Instagram or Twitter you might know what was going on, kind of. If not you were probably like what the heck happened to Jen?!? On Monday night I started having really bad stomach pain, unfortunately for me it's a pretty common thing and I've learned to live with it...however it was REALLY bad and not going away so I ended up taking a trip to the hospital. After about 6 hours, 6 vials of blood, a CT Scan and a bunch of pain medication I felt better-ish and went home with "unidentified abdominal pain". Since then I've just pretty much felt like crap, I've mostly slept since I got home from the hospital and I just didn't feel like editing photos or typing up blog posts. I feel a bit better now, I guess.  This problem has been ongoing for nearly 5 years and no doctor can figure out wtf is wrong with me, I'm pretty sure I could qualify to be on Mystery Diagnosis if a doctor ever does figure out why my stomach hates me so much.

Anyway, blah blah blah on to nail polish. A couple weeks ago I was browsing Rite Aid and saw a new display from LA Girl of a new collection called 3D Effects and they are scattered holographic polishes, you can see a photo of the display over on Frazzle and Aniploish here (I freaking LOVE her display posts, btw!) I ended up buying 2 of them, the rest all looked like things I already own so they stayed at the store.  Check out the swatches by clicking the read more button under the photo!

Brilliant Blue is a dark blue with a subtle scattered holographic effect. This reminds me a bit of piCture pOlish Cosmos, it's definitely not a dupe but it could be a good alternative if you don't want to spend the bucks for Cosmos. The formula was good, a little on the thick side but application was good. This was almost jelly like but it was nice and opaque. I used 2 coats for the photos below. This was more holographic looking in real life.

Teal Dimension is a teal blue with a subtle scattered holographic effect. The holographic glitter in this is a bit more chunky than it is in Brilliant Blue. This has so much depth to it, especially out in the sunlight!   The formula was really great on this one, the consistency was perfect and application was a breeze. I used 2 coats for the photos below. This was much more holographic in person, it just refused to photograph :(

LA Girl 3D Effects polishes are available at Rite Aid (That's the only place I've seen them anyway), you can also find LA Girl polishes online at Cherry Culture but I don't see these listed there yet. I don't remember the exact price but I believe they were under $5 a piece.

  1. I really like Teal Dimension - it sort of reminds me of a bluer A-england St. George.. Too bad I haven't lived by a Rite Aid since I left the West 9 years ago!
I'm glad to hear you're feeling better. I'm sure your GI doc would have thought of these, but have you been checked for Crohn's, irritable bowl syndrome/disorder, other ulcers/colitis, lactose intolerance or gluten sensitivity/Celiac? Unfortunately, a lot of these are diseases of exclusion, including Chronic Functional Abdominal Pain, so until you've exhausted all the tests (immune testing, ultrasound/xray, swallowing the camera pill, biopsy etc) your doc will be reluctant to give you a firm diagnosis. Keep pushing your doc and get a second opinion!

Thanks for the lovely swatches and review! Been excited about them since seeing display photos! One of the first few polish brands I own since the start of the obsession is LA Girl and I still love the ones I have.
I love these shades and hope this line will make it to our shores (Singapore) soon.

  9. These are beautiful swatches. I hope you feel better soon. I know what it's like to go through unexplained stomach pain. No one could help me and I put myself on an elimination diet and it turns out I'm allergic to dairy! Not sure if you've tried this yet but maybe it will help.

  12. I have the blue one, the red one, the purple one, and the black one and I am seriously considering hunting for the teal. It's been sold out at every Rite Aid.

  13. Jen, sorry to hear about your stomach pain. That is probably one of the hardest things to diagnose and after awhile you start to think that there is no hope and they won't be able to help you. Hope you get an answer soon. I figured something was wrong when you weren't posting every day. Get well soon! Btw, these polishes are gorgeous! Take care :D

  18. And by the way, I LOVE your swatches! If I want to know anything about a polish I bought or plan on buying, I always look to your blog first. You tell me everything I want to know. So thanks for doing what you do!

  19. Glad to see you're back. Honestly when I didn't see any recent posts my thoughts were 'Aw Jen's got a boyfriend now...they're probably spending lots of time together!' Love makes you do crazy things sometimes (wink). Anyway it's great you're better and I hope your ailment gets properly diagnosed soon. :)

Love the swatches, especially the teal. Will have to look for these polishes in the stores.

  20. Hi Jen. I am sorry for your pain and stress. I can relate, I had really bad stomach pain for a while. After medical tests, nothing much was wrong besides reflux. It has gotten MUCH better with the elimination of stress. I am sending you some strong healing wishes. : ) Heal!

  21. Sorry you're having stomach pains, I kinda know what you're going through. I have endometriosis, so you have my full sympathy!
But I love the pretty pretty polishes!

  22. Lovely swatches, as always :D I must say I was concerned by your absence, and i'm sorry to hear you had to go through all that testing with no result :(

I just wanted to say that your, symptoms sound a lot like me... They were on and of my whole life, then when I got to my twenties, they got even worse...to the point I couldn't walk. I tried eliminating common things like dairy, but still...nothing helped

Then about five years ago, I stopped eating anything with wheat in it (before this damn gluten free fad started) and it was honestly like magic almost instantly my problems stopped.

Never hurts to try ;) good luck, feel better! Xo

  23. You poor thing, I hope you feel better! :(

Wow, these are so gorgeous! I especially love the teal one! Too bad we don't have Rite Aid around here, just CVS and Walgreens. :(.

  24. I have stomach pains often as well, one time it lasted for like 9 hours but I still don't know what the real problem is, so I understand you perfectly! I hope you feel better soon! Brilliant Blue is my favorite of the two polishes, I love the color and the holographic effect!

  25. I second this. After 30 years of no issues I started getting terrible, seemingly random, stomach aches a few years ago. Dairy is the culprit, my two older siblings have the same issue. From what I've read dairy sensitivity is not uncommon as we get older. My siblings also have a problem with too much gluten. Looks like I can look forward to that too!

Lovely swatches by the way, you always make me need more polishes!

  26. Man are these sparkly! I passed them by at Rite-Aid the other day. Now I'm going to have to go back and get them. You enabler you. ;)

I really hope your health improves. I have a digestive motility disorder than took forever to diagnose. I have the exact same experiences you did with emergency rooms sending me home with no answer. I hope you get one soon. Take care!

  27. Brilliant Blue looks promisingly similar to Starry Starry Night! Would you be able to compare them? =)

  28. Oh to live where there are Rite Aids! Hope you not only feel better, but figure it all out. Nothing worse than mysterious symptoms!

  34. I love your blog! I just hadto post and tell you this as I discovered it while in the ED for...unidentified abdominal pain. I am also at the half decade mark without any answers. I hope for your sake (and my own) that you're diagnosed soon and get proper treatment. I empathize withall those who suffer chronic pain and am working hard on devoting my life to care for others. Best of luck and thank-you for sharing your writings with us.

  35. Hi Jen! Beautiful swatches - have you been tested for Crohns disease? My brother had the same symptoms and went undiagnosed for a long time too :( I hope you get better! :)

  36. Glad you're feeling better, and loving the LA Girl holos! I spent years with unexplained abdominal pain in my teens and was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis just before turning 21. you've probably already been tested for it, but it's worth asking about. Good luck!
