Orly Summer 2013 Mash Up Collection Swatches & Review

Hi guys, happy Friday! Today I have Orly's Summer 2013 Mash Up Collection to share with you! I wasn't sure I'd get anything from this collection, mostly because I don't really care for the new Orly bottles and it turns me off of buying from them but then I saw these in person and ended up bringing them home...I couldn't resist the shimmer and glitter! For Summer this year Orly has given us a bit of an eclectic collection that includes everything from an eye searing neon to an almost pastel creme. There is a bit of something for everyone in here! check out the swatches & reviews after the jump!

Beautiful Disaster is a medium red toned purple shimmer. This shows a bit of brushstrokes once it dries but it's nice and glowy, I wasn't sure about a color like this for Summer but I think the glowy-ness to it makes it nice for the season! The formula was good, a bit patchy at first but the second coat got rid of that without issues. I used 2 coats for the photos below, both photos are in natural sunlight.

Choreographed Chaos is a bubblegum pink with a blue shimmer. The shimmer is on the hidden side but you can see it when the light hits the nail right. The formula was a bit weird, it was fine on the first coat and then super streaky on the second coat. I used 3 coats to completely even it out for the photos below.

Lighting: Shade

Harmonious Mess is a dusty periwinkle creme. This is a surprise favorite for me, this color was so flattering on...I feel like I'll probably grab for this quite a bit for layering. The formula was good, the first coat was on the sheer side but it built up really easily. I used 2 coats for the photos below. Both photos below are in natural sunlight.

Mayhem Mentality is an orange neon. This sucker was eye searing, if you like REALLY bright neons this is one you'll really like! The formula was great, it was a little streaky at first but easy to even out and the opacity was good. I used 2 coats for the photos below, I did not layer this over white for the photos but I have tried it over white and it makes it even brighter! Both photos below are in the shade, for some reason my camera likes to photograph bright orange neons as yellow in the sun haha!

Pretty-Ugly is a light blue with a blue shimmer. The shimmer in this was great, it was visible in the regular lighting in my house as well as outside. In lower lighting, like the shade, it was pretty hidden. The formula was good but on the sheer side, I used 3 coats for full opacity. Both photos below are in natural sunlight.

Sparkling Garbage is a murky green jelly base loaded with holographic glitter. I was most excited about this when I saw them in the store, photos don't really do justice to how sparkly this is. I don't *love* this on it's own but I think layering it over the right color will make me love it. The formula was alright, it was very sheer though. I used 3 coats for the photos below and I definitely needed 1-2 more coats for full opacity. Both photos below are in natural sunlight.

The Mash Up Collection from Orly is available now, I'm pretty sure I saw it out at Sally Beauty Supply when I stopped by there the other day. You can also find the collection on etailers like Transdesign.com

  6. Would you say Beautiful Disaster is similar to OPI Suzie and the Seven Dussoldorfs?

  14. I'm waiting to find Sparkling Garbage. It's the only one in the collection I want. But I'm with you on the new bottles. I really dislike them.

  16. Canada has a drug store cosmetic line called Quo and all their polishes are made "by Orly". Last week I picked up "Trash Glam, Quo by Orly". It's pretty much Sparkling Garbage rebranded for Canadians, so if that's where you are you could find this at any Shoppers Drug Mart!

  17. PS. I layered Trash Glam over Glitter Gal Bondi Blue and it made it so much more dazzling (bondi blue on its own I find a bit underwhelming and Trash Glam alone is too sheer)

I remembered this question when I stopped by Sally's today, and since MYP is core, I compared the 2 bottles. Mayhem Mentalilty is slightly lighter than Melt Your Popsicle, though both are definitely neons!
