China Glaze On The Horizon Collection Swatches

Hi guys! Today I have the China Glaze On The Horizon Collection to share with you. China Glaze has hopped aboard the tiny bar glitter train and is releasing their own collection of "feather effect" polishes. When I walked into my local beauty supply a couple weeks ago to get nail polish remover the owner went back and grabbed these for me since they had just gotten them in, I hadn't really heard much about them prior to actually buying them so it was a nice surprise! We've seen this kind of effect already from Nails Inc and Sally Hansen yet somehow I am still excited about these..so far these are my favorite of any of the feathered polishes, the color combs are the most up my alley! Check out swatches & reviews of each after the jump!

For this post I layered all of these but you could easily wear them on their own if you wanted to (I just don't care for them that way)

All A Flutter is matte blue, white and light orange bar glitter in a clear base. The formula was good on this one, not thick at all and easy to apply. The glitter coverage was great, I used 1 coat over OPI Keeping Suzi At Bay.

Flock Together is green, blue and black matte bar glitter in a clear base. This is my favorite of the collection, I think the color combo of the glitter is very striking and I haven't seen it from any other brand yet. The formula was good, it wasn't thick and application was easy. I used 1 coat over OPI In The Cable Car-Pool Lane for the photos below.

Flying South is orange and yellow matte bar glitter and coppery microglitter in a clear base. Originally this was one of my favorites in the bottle but I don't really care for it on the nail. I feel like there is way too much microglitter in here and it takes away from the effect...you can't really even see the bar glitter. I tried this over darker colors to see if I might like it better that way but I liked it even less haha! The formula was good, a little bit on the thick side but easy to apply. I used 1 coat over OPI My Boyfriend Scales Walls for the photos below.

Light As A Feather is white, yellow, light orange and black matte bar glitter in a clear base. The formula was good but a bit on the thick side. Application was easy and the glitter payoff was great. I used 1 coat over OPI Incognito In Sausalito for the photos below.

Party Fowl is orange, black and blue matte bar glitter in a clear base. This is another favorite for me because I love the color combo! The formula was a little thick on this one also but like the others application was easy. I used 1 coat over OPI Lost On Lombard for the photos below, all photos are in natural sunlight.

You're A Hoot is orange, yellow and black matte bar glitter in a clear base. The formula was on the thick side but again, easy to apply. I used 1 coat over OPI A-Piers To Be Tan for the photos below.

Overall I really like this collection, I think this is actually the first China Glaze Collection all year that I've genuinely really liked and didn't have formula issues with lol! I know a lot of people don't care for bar glitter but I really like it, especially the small matte bar glitters like these.

The On The Horizon Collection is available now if you want to buy online. I *think* this is an August release for stores like Sally Beauty and Ulta but I'm not 100% sure since I haven't seen any official info from China Glaze about these yet.

  3. thank you so much for these swatches! I just heard about this collection yesterday but was unsure as to whether I actually wanted any of them. I think I'll now be picking up Flock Together and Party Fowl!

Can't say that I love these and am a little disappointed in CG for being so late to the party!! Will have to check out Flock Together though as I like that black bar glitter. Thanks for reviewing the line :)

  6. I think out of all the tiny bar glitter members, Barry M still has the nicest looking ones! I would probably pass on these as they're almost all dupes of Barry M... but since we don't get Barry M in Canada it's a good alternative.

  7. I'm admittedly not a fan of many 'effect' top coats, but these are by far my least favourite! China Glaze has fallen on my list of favourite brands lately.

  8. I agree with Lindsay. China Glaze is indisputably one of the most popular and successful companies in the polish industry. So to see them jump on the feathers/fuzzy bandwagon 6 months later is disappointing. The fact that it's been done AND duped is really going to take a toll on their sales.
On the other hand, we haven't seen very much of this trend either. Neither Orly, OPI, Zoya, Essie, Finger Paints, Nina, ect have done this (yet??). So in that aspect, China Glaze is being innovative. But it would of been nice too see them do more unique combos, like 'Flock Together'. How many orange bar glitter polishes can a person own?

I have been pretty "meh" about this type of glitter but I am now kind of intrigued. CG's color combo's are much more interesting than the ones I've seen from Nails Inc and Sally Hansen Flock Together, Party Fowl and You're A Hoot are my favorites!

  10. I am definitely passing on these. I guess I'm just not a huge fan of the look. Thanks for swatches though!

  11. I'm not a huge fan of bar glitter. I bought a few of the Sally Hansen Fuzzy Coats, and I wasn't a huge fan of them.

  12. You're a Hoot is such a cute name, and it actually reminds me of real bird feathers, I'd consider getting that one. The only matte bar glitter I have is the cheerful SH Fuzz-Sea, which is in a completely different color direction.

  13. I'm on the fence with these. In the bottle they are so unappealing to me but, you make them look really good. I don't know about this one, I just might have to check them out.

  14. Beautiful swatches! I have to pick up a bottle!!

  15. I can leave these at the store...don't like 'em at all. i am tired of glitters and bar matte glitters are nothing new - i would rather see ChG have gone with a great batch of fun fall shades. I don't need any more glitters of any kind in my stash...I used to really like ChG but their past 2 yrs have been a big snooze fest for us who have been into polishes for eons and eons. Glitters in particular I get tired and bored with so fast I want them off in less than 1 day...and since glitters only make it harder to get polish of and make your mani last longer - well it's all the way around a lose lose situation for me. RARE I ever use glitter now days...it's so over done - we need to move on to a nice clean look or a great nail art accent nail. time to lighten up all this nail stuff...

  16. Ok this is unrelated, but I've been waiting forever for your swatches of the OPI San Francisco collection! Does this mean the review will be coming soon?? Anyway, back to this China Glaze collection... not sure I care for the black glitter mixed in with these. My first reaction was that black felt very un-feather-like, but then I realized how black feathers actually do exist in real life. Crows, duh. Anywho, I like the Sally Hansen ones better - even though they cost more to buy in Canada than China Glaze. Sucky, I know.

  17. yep, they'll be up tomorrow!

  18. They have a regular Fall collection coming out also that you might like more!

  19. I like this collection. I think the key to these feathered polishes is the base color you use. If you choose the right base they look awespme ,if not they look terrible.

  20. No thank you! And this is pretty random, but OPI DS Royal is on amazon.com for 20 something dollars...

  21. I picked up a couple of these last week - they look fun!

  22. I just really don't like these 'feathered' polishes! :/

I think these bar glitter polishes are ok. But I've been finding the colour combinations kind of similar, like this collection. None of them are calling to me. It'd be really awesome if some company released some neon ones haha. Nice swatches as always :)

  24. I don't think I'm really a fan of the small bar glitter, but I do like the colours in All A Flutter...maybe as a circle glitter, it would work better. Thanks for the great photos, as always!

I actually really love flying south, I like the microglitter in it. I think it gives it a more unique appearance than any of the other polishes. However, I'm kind of disappointed they all seem to have orange in them. I wish there was a greater variation of colors in the bar glitter. In that regard, I think the Sally Hansen Fuzzy Coat polishes were more successful. But I still love this new trend!

  26. I think this type of glitter is interesting and can definitely be put to use in fun nail art, but what is with all the super-similar colors? I guessing the brands are offered a limited range of colors from the big glitter suppliers or something?? It seems to me that this collection would be more exciting if it had better variety in the colors. Yes this is a fall glitter collection so they are all "fall-friendly", but still... Even the Sally Hansen bunch had a few more colors than this.

  27. I just got Flying South yesterday and my only complaint is that I had trouble getting a smooth finish at the edges. Maybe my nails aren't long enough for this "effect". Its a little thick, but managable.
