Nails Inc Beaded Polish: Covent Garden

Hey guys! Today I have one of the new Nails Inc Beaded Polishes to share with you guys. This shade is called Covent Garden and it's a light blue. The Beaded Polish Collection from Nails Inc is made up of 4 shades in total, they are meant to give a 3D beaded and glitter nail texture according to the Sephora website. Basically they are like what you would get if you mixed one of the creamy textured polishes with a ton of glitter.

Now, I had heard some not so good things about these on twitter but I decided to go buy one anyway...I'll try anything once. Well guys, this is pretty yuck-tastic. I like textured nail polish but this is just...no. I can't even describe, just look at the pictures, it was worse looking in person. Aside from looking like a  hot mess the formula was also pretty awful. It was thick and lumpy...hard to apply etc. It is what I imagine it would be like trying to apply cottage cheese to your nails. The only positive thing I can say is that it was very opaque so I only needed 1 coat, which is good because I don't think I could have done another anyway.

I love Nails Inc, I feel like in the past couple of years they have been ahead of the trends and releasing polishes I have been very excited about so I guess they are allowed 1 miss every now and then haha! I've heard that the black Beaded Polish is somewhat ok but I don't think I'll be running out to pick it up.

  1. yeah, hmmm, no.

I like Nails Inc. too - I LOVE their Leather Effect polishes; I even really liked the feather polishes that no one else seemed to dig. But this is a pass for me. I think I can appreciate the thought behind this "beaded" effect, but the execution is a miss. Because you are so talented I think the third pic looks nice! But I think that's because, in that pic, the cottage-cheese lumpiness is most minimal. It seems that with this polish I have reached my textured effect threshold ;) Thanks for reviewing and being so honest, though!! This is why I love your blog - showing adventurous polishes and being totally blunt about the outcome.

  2. Hot damn! That's like textured polish on crack. And I don't mean that in a good way!

  3. looks like light blue vomit

  4. Hmm this is definitely different! I'm sort of over the textured thing, so I'm not upset that the formula on this stinks haha! But it seems like a sort of innovative idea that just wasn't executed well...

  5. This could be the moment in time when the textured polish trend jumped the shark :-)

  6. I'm so happy you posted this because I wanted to buy 1 or 2, I think I'll pass now.

  7. If this wasn't textured, it would be gorgeous.

  8. I hate to say it but it looks kind of cute in your pictures!

  9. Thanks for your review of this! I keep debating if I should give it a try (this color especially is SO damn pretty in the bottle) but I'm just going to avoid, avoid, AVOID the Beaded polishes. That $11 could go towards better polish choices ;)

  10. OMG, What were they thinking? Did they forget to test these before selling them?

    ReplyDelete
  11. Barry M do these as well and just...yuck. At least the colour is pretty? Did topcoat improve it at all??

  12. This is definitely a unique polish. I think it reminds me of trying to paint a wall and you drop your paintbrush on the floor so then you have a bunch of crud stuck on the brush when trying to paint. The polish in the bottle looks pretty though!

  13. I love your blog so I mean no offense, but man...that is not pretty. Thanks for taking the risk for us.

I love pretty much everything you do with your nails, but even you can't make this one look good! I think I just don't like textured polish for the most part. Have you ever tried the leather effect type?

  15. The color is pretty, but I'm not on board with these.

I understand the beaded concept as if it's supposed to resemble sequins, but this is a bit overdone. It's more like they've tried to combine all the trends into a single finish as opposed to creating something completely new.

  16. Oh wow, that is pretty awful. I hadn't heard of these but it doesn't sound like I was missing out. Any chance topcoat will help it out at all? I'm not really into the regular textured polishes but I like how some of them look with topcoat.

  17. I didn't try it with top coat but it was so lumpy that I doubt it would help

    ReplyDelete
  18. yep, I've posted a couple of them. I really like the Leather Effect polishes!

    ReplyDelete
  19. I didn't even try it with top coat but due to the extreme lumpyness of it I don't think it would have helped

I don't know how I missed that... I'll go check it out!

Barry M came out with a very similar collection in early Spring and it is just as bad. I am a sucker for texture but this combo of cream and glitter just looks gross!

  22. Its definitely unique and different.

  23. OMG! lol Thanks for the heads-up. I won't be running to Sephora for this one :O)

  24. Great idea, bad reality! It reminds me of the ceilings we had when I was a kid on the 70s, glitter and all.

You did a great job of application, but ew

  26. Oh my gross. Thanks for taking the bullet so the rest of us don't have to!

You almost make this look good.

    ReplyDelete
  28. This looks like it'll be a pain to remove.. the color is nice though!

    ReplyDelete
  29. Hmmm... I originally bought three of the colors (Covent Garden, Embankment, and Belgravia) when they first showed up on Sephora's website because no one had swatches of them. Now I agree that Covent Garden and Embankment are weird, but am I the only one that likes Belgravia? To me, it looks like I have crushed sea shells on my nails.

  30. I was waiting for some brand to come out with a dried-out Head & Shoulders-inspired flaky dandruff polish.

Next up: the pond scum mani by Ciate?

Kudos for shooting this dreck. Now, we're all a little safer out there.

Ew. That's all I can think of...

    ReplyDelete
  32. Erm... I fail to understand why Nails Inc had to launch that one. Thanks for sharing!

    ReplyDelete
  33. Oh, wow. I think this may be the first polish I've seen swatched on your blog that didn't look gorgeous... Which, considering how beautiful the base color is, and how pretty the glitter looks in the bottle, is really a tragedy.
    But just... Wow. *shudders*

    ReplyDelete
  34. Ugh, yep, it does look hideous.

    ReplyDelete
  35. lol *g* it totally looks like rough wallpaint with gravel in it *g*
it's much too coarse und lumpy .... but well. Last year they all milked
the crackle-bandwagon, before that it was the matte trend, then we had
neons inbetween I believe (or is it this summer? ^^), before that there
was the big konading wave ... and though there have been a few holos and
duochromes inbetween, I'm still waiting for the huge holo and/or
duochrome wave of all brands ^^ I'd love that ...

    I
am not sold on these texture polishes at all, no matter from which
company. They're just strange and weird to me. I maybe possibly could
persuade myself to try a shimmery sparkly one, like OPI's solitaire or
something, or a black with crystal glitter ... but I'm pretty sure I'd
cover it with four coats of topcoat to make it nice and shiny. I just
need smooth and shiny nails, I can't help it.

    The only
exemption I make are the OPI suedes. These are awesome. Dry in like 5
seconds and are extremely cool looking. I should have bought back-ups
    when these were released ^^

  36. Kind of looks like a bad turquoise fungus!

    ReplyDelete
  37. LOL Cottage Cheese on the nails :)

Oh wow. NO. No thanks. Pass pass. please let this trend pass..

    ReplyDelete
  39. It sounds tricky... but you still manage to make it look pretty!

Now that is just strange. I actually kind of like it, if nothing else for the weirdness of it. If it would've been a dark grey color it probably would've resembled road asphalt. :) I've been doing my nails since the mid-80's and I think I can speak for a lot of people in that this is such an exciting time for nail polish options--you just never know what's coming out next!

    ReplyDelete
  41. Eugh. Good idea, bad execution. I can see somebody using them for cosplay or something like that, though.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Beautiful color! And I love the texture too! I think it is a beautiful option for summer. BTW I would like to

    ReplyDelete
  43. Could it be a bad bottle? I bought Belgravia a few days ago, and even with two coats (admittedly only on my swatch wheel), it wasn't messy-looking like that.

    ReplyDelete
  44. it's not a bad bottle.

  46. Not a fan of this one.

    ReplyDelete
  47. This is.. weird. Just weird.

    ReplyDelete
  48. That looks like it would drive me absolutely MAD to have on my nails! I like the OPI textures but that one just looks like it would catch on everything (cloth-wise). It looks like a great colour done up with poor glitter application! Thanks for the swatch. If you bought it at Sephora, take it back. They are generally totally helpful with that (setting it out as a tester, etc.).

    ReplyDelete
  49. LOL It is pretty gruesome. Thanks for showing this, and not just the pretty ones

    ReplyDelete
  50. Shame about that disgusting texture, because it's a pretty color combo!

    ReplyDelete
  51. I did a review on them recently and fell in love with their nail polishes! Yours are gorgeous!

    ReplyDelete
  52. on an aesthetic scale, this is somewhere between a caviar mani (which looks worse than this imo) and pixie dusts (which look much better than this). i do love that sky blue color, tho!

    ReplyDelete
  53. To be honest, it looks terrible. Sorry for such a sharp mind.

    ReplyDelete
  54. i feel the same... i bought the black one thinking i would like it more than just a black textured one. i painted my first nail and it looked great and then the rest of them just sucked and gooped up and i took it all off before it dried. i may try using it again just as an accent nail but who knows.. so disappointing!!

    ReplyDelete
  55. This is definitely yuck-eriffic! I'm not a fan of textured polishes generally, but they can have a place. I have never had a nail polish make me nauseous before.

    ReplyDelete
  56. I must be the only weirdo who thinks these actually look really pretty and interesting. I think I will have to try one out for myself. That color is gorgeous!

    ReplyDelete
  57. I know everyone hates this, but I have the white one of this, and a lot
of other liquid sand polishes, and personally, I love it! Obviously, I
know I'm in the minority, but for me, it is a great textured funky
polish! It gave me craggy, rocky nails, and I thought it was awesome!
plus, the polish dried harder and faster than ANY other textured
polish. The white is bright and sparkling, and looks like funky pearl
jewelry with glitter! I guess I can understand why other people don't
like it, but, I think its great if you really want a high definition of
    texture.

    ReplyDelete
  58. I feel like this would have looked really pretty with a top coat to take out the unappealing texture...

    ReplyDelete
  59. top coat did not do anything to smooth out the texture of it
