Sally Hansen Sugar Coat: Royal Icing

Hi guys! Today I have one of the Sally Hansen Sugar Coat polishes to share with you! I saw a display of these a while back at Target and they didn't interest me since they were the creamy textures. I went to Walgreens last week and saw a new display that had a few glittery ones. Royal Icing is the one that immediately stood out to me, I wasn't planning on getting any polish on that trip but I just couldn't pass this one up!

Royal Icing is a light blue base with hints of duochromatic purple to gold shimmer.  It kind of reminds me of Sinful Colors Cinderella, but way more awesome because it's a texture and I like these types of textures! Texture wise it's very much in the same vein as the Zoya PixieDust polishes, it's very fine and it doesn't feel like sandpaper on the nail.

Formula wise I was a little disappointed, this was sheer like whoa. I tried 4 coats at first and it was still sheer enough to see visible nail line, it also wasn't reaching the color you see in the bottle on its own. I ended up taking it off and layering it to help the opacity. Over white this is pretty much awesome, and exactly what I wanted it to be. I used 2 coats over OPI My Boyfriend Scales Walls for the photos below, all photos are without top coat. It looked pretty much the same with top coat so I didn't end up taking photos of it that way. I can't even tell you guys how much better this looked in person, the shimmer just wasn't translating on camera as pretty as it was in person!

Royal Icing is available now, I've only seen the display at Walgreens so I'm not sure if other drugstores have these yet. I know my local Target still only has the first collection on shelves, I hope they get these though...I might pick up the other glittery ones!

  2. I love this shade! I'm so mad, because I was just in Walgreens last night, and I saw they had a new display for the SH Sugar Coat/ Fuzzy Coat. I already bought the ones I wanted, so i didn't even bother to look.. I just figured they were trying to move the product quicker. I'm going to have to take a trip up there today.
Did you ever see the mani "Chalkboard Nails" did with Sugar Coat? She did the whole DIY nail stencil thing with a star-shaped hole punch and painters tape. Then she sponged on Sugar Coat. The result was really cool looking; the stars looked 3D! Because of the contrast of the textured polish on the smooth cream polish, the stars literally seemed to jump off the nail :)

I didn't realize these has shimmer when I looked at them at Rite-Aid! Kicking myself now! :)

  4. I am usually not a fan of textured polishes. They always end up looking messy and like a mistake to me! This color though, with the subtle shimmer, is one of the cuter textured polishes I have seen.

  6. I am definitely a fan of the glittery textures; the regular textures just look clumpy to me o.O

I have Sour Apple and Cherry Pop from the original line. I like them, even though they're creamy like Jen said and not glittery like the Orly Pixels (which I LOVE). Sally Hansen polishes are excellent quality and their texture ones are fantastic. Will have to make a trip to Walgreens soon to look for these new sparkly ones. :)

  10. Gorgeous, I love the way it looks over white! I finally went out and bought this today after seeing your post. :) For those not having any luck finding these at Walgreens, I also saw a display of this collection at Meijer today!

  11. too funny! I just put this on last night. Though I already knew it had to be over white from doing my swatch sticks. But I really do like this one! For undies I used essie marshmallow and didnt even do a serious coat, just something to get the color to show.

  12. p.s. it too for-e-v-e-r to fully dry. I did cheat and put athin coat of quick dry over the top which helped slightly.

  14. I love how pretty this is. I bought this and haven't used it yet, so I am thankful you mentioned it needs a base. This is gorgeous and I can see using this for winter too as it looks icy and cool like snow.

  17. Mmmmh! Interesting. There is a display of these nail polishes at my drugstore and I wasn't sure if I should buy or not. I will go back and probably buy one of these beauties and layer it on top of an opaque colour. Thank you!

I just picked this up on clearance at ULTA. It's so gorgeous, and the pink shimmer is so strong! I'm not surprised to find out that it's sheer, since its non-textured sister Cinderella is very sheer, as well. I plan to do the same thing I do with Sinful Colors Cinderella, which is to layer it over a similar light blue like China Glaze Kinetic Candy or NYC Skyline Blue.
