China Glaze Fall 2013 Autumn Nights Collection Swatches

Hi guys! Today I have the Fall 2013 Autumn Nights Collection from China Glaze to share with you! I haven't really seen or heard much about this collection, I bought it without looking up swatches first so it was a surprise for me to see them all when they arrived in the mail. For Fall China Glaze is releasing 12 new shades that consist of 2 cremes, 4 foils and 6 shimmers/frosts.

Check out all the swatches & reviews after the jump!

Charmed, I'm Sure is a dark purple creme. This was nice and vampy but not so dark that it looked black, you could tell it was purple in most lighting. The formula was good, it was a really nice consistency and it applied easily. The opacity was also good, it was almost a 1 coater for me. I used 2 coats for the photos below, both photos are in natural sunlight.

Don't Make Me Wine is a magenta shimmer. This is pretty but it does lean a little bit towards being frosty. There were some visible brush strokes that I could see in person, they aren't really translating into the photos. I do like how glowy this was though! The formula was good, it was a nice consistency and super opaque. I used 1 coat for the photos below, both photos are in natural sunlight.

Goldie but Goodie is a golden foil. I wasn't so sure if I would like this, I'm not a huge lover of foil finishes but I quite like this on. The formula was really nice, it flowed nicely and the consistency was good. This was super opaque, I used 1 coat for the photos below.

Gossip Over Gimlets is a silver foil. There are little bits of golden flakes in here but they are hard to see. I feel like I have about eleventy billion bottles of this kind of polish but this is a good one if you don't haha! The formula was good, it was easy to apply and super opaque. I used 1 coat for the photos below.

Kiss My Glass is a blue toned grey frost. The formula was alright, it was a little bit thick but easy to apply. My main issue is that it is SO brush stroke-y :( I used 1 coat for the photos below, both photos are in natural sunlight.

Public Relations is a purple toned grey frost. This is very similar to Kiss My Glass but just slightly more purple toned. I don't really care for this either, for the same reason. The formula was a bit on the thick side but easy to apply. I used 1 coat for the photos below, both photos are in natural sunlight.

Queen B is a blurple creme. This leaned a little bit more towards purple than my photos look but it does change depending on the light you're in. The formula was great, it was the perfect consistency for what I look for in creme. It was also nice and opaque, nearly a 1 coater. I used 2 coats for the photos below, both photos are in natural sunlight.

Red-y & Willing is a red shimmer. The formula was really nice on this one, it was easy to work with and very opaque. I used 1 coat for the photos below, both photos are in natural sunlight.

Rendezvous With You is a dark purpley grey foil. This is my favorite of the foils, it's an interesting shade of purple and one of the only polishes in the collection that I feel like I don't have a ton of similar shades for. The formula was great, it was a breeze to apply and super opaque. I used 1 coat for the photos below.

Scandalous Shenanigans is a bright blue frost. I'm a bit on the fence with this, I love the shade of blue and how it glows but I don't like how frosty this is. The formula was a bit on the thick side but easy to apply, it was nice and opaque but prone to brush strokes showing. I used 1 coat for the photos below, both photos are in natural sunlight.

Strike Up A Cosmo is a rosy pink foil with a golden shimmer. The formula was good, just like the other foils it was nice and opaque. I used 1 coat for the photos below.

Tongue & Chic is a teal shimmer. I love the slight blackened base to this, it gives that effect of looking black around the edges of the nail which I like. The formula was good, it was a really nice consistency and again, super opaque. I used 1 coat for the photos below, both photos are in natural sunlight.

Overall I don't really care for this collection, sorry China Glaze. I'm really not sure why they felt the need to do so many frosty shades, do people actually like those? The only really positive thing I have to say overall is that I'm impressed with how opaque all of these polishes were, almost all of them were 1 coaters which was great. If you like to stamp I think most of this collection would work really well for that. My picks are Tongue & Chic and Rendezvous With You.

The Autumn Nights Collection should be hitting store shelves in September, you can however already get them online. I bought mine at Transdesign.com!

  1. Oooo I love Queen B. Would love to see that in comparisons...this is one I feel like *I* have eleventy billion of but still need them ALL. Crazy that they are almost all one coaters. Thanks!

  2. Love your swatches! I wouldn't mind having eleventy billion bottles of Gossip over Gimlets - it's fab!

  3. They're all really pretty! I've never tried a foil polish before, but now I know I should!

Thanks for these! I really like that purple foil, but I agree, none of the others are really doing it for me. Have you ever tried that method of sponging on the last layer of polish to avoid brush strokes? I wonder if it really works, but it seems like a lot of extra effort, so I haven't tried it yet.

I'm glad I'm not the only one that is underwhelmed by this collection. I went to my local nail supply shop this weekend to see them in person and I didn't feel the need to purchase a single one. It's really disappointing considering how fantastic last fall's collection was.

  6. Wow what a boring collection. Oh we'll, good news for my wallet with all the other fall polishes I'm buying. And I'm still awaiting the CG feathers collection, hopefully that will make up for this one!

  7. Lovely swatches, as always! Not the most unique collection, but think it's pretty (except for the frosts). Would love to see a comparison between Gossip Over Gimlets and OPI Designer...De Better.

  8. I bought Red-y & Willing and I'm so glad that eve though the shade looks quite ordinary I didn't find a dupe in my collection. Rendezvous With You looks so awesome. Maybe I'll get that one too.
I'd like to see Tongue & Chic compared to China Glaze Emerald Fitzgerald if you have that one.

  9. What a nice collection and great swatches as always! :)

  10. Im with you! I HATE frosts!

  11. I'd love to see a comparison between Don't Make Me Wine and Essie The Lace is On, Red-y and Willing and OPI"s I'm Not Really a Waitress, and Strike Up a Cosmo with Color Club's Foil Me Once!

  12. Love Rendezvous With You and Tongue & Chic, but I could lose the rest, I think. I know what you mean about frosts - way too many brush strokes, and a lot of those look like colours I've seen elsewhere. That said, I'm a stickler for good formulas, so maybe they were focusing on that?

Would love to see a comparison between Charmed I'm Sure and OPI Vant to Bite My Neck - I think CIS is darker, but I'm not sure?

  13. I love Charmed, I'm Sure -- it's such a great fall/winter color! I agree, it's not amazing but it's definitely a solid collection.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Can you compare the foils with OPI Designer....De Better? (I don't know which will be closest, otherwise I'd specify. =D)

    ReplyDelete
  15. I'm not a fan of frost ANYTHING but I do like the rose gold shade...

    ReplyDelete
  16. I haven't tried that method, honestly if I have to mess around that much with a polish to make it look good I don't bother with it. I have SO much polish that I'd rather just wear something else lol

    ReplyDelete
  17. Seriously CG, is this ALL you could come up with for fall?? Overdone bland cremes and some foils and frosts that look like they belong in a holiday collection?? (YAWN!!). The only one I feel even remotely like checking out is 'Rendezvous With You', and I won't make a special trip just to do so. Regarding frosts, they were big back in the 80's and early 90's but since shimmers, refined glitters and other neat advances in polish formulas have come along they fell out of favor. It takes a great ridge filling base coat, patience, and technique to make them look good, but they can. A good frost looks like shiny satin after top coat and time to dry. :) But come on, this is all we get for fall?? :(

At the risk of looking out of style (I disagree), I'll probably get back out my CG Luster Chromes from last fall. Now those were beautiful!

  18. Oh yeah forgot another thing I noticed. Not sure if this is some quote from somewhere or something like that, but 'Charmed I'm Sure' has been the name of a very pretty rose gold shimmer that L'Oreal has had out for a few years now. Sheesh! :(

  19. Can you please make a comparison between Tongue & Chic and Essie Dive Bar?

    ReplyDelete
  20. Comparison request: Could you please compare Zoya Neeka with China Glaze Rendezvous With You? Other than one is a foil, how does the shade of purple compare? Thanks !

    ReplyDelete
  21. Thank you for posting this collection, I agree, it is a bit of a let down. I do like tge foils, though. Could you compare gossip over gimlets to the new a england Excalibur? Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  22. I'm I the only one not impressed by any of these fall collections so far? I don't understand, usually they are my favorite! Well maybe my wallet is happy about that!

Still I would like to see Charmed I'm sure with OPI Vant to bite my neck
Don't make me wine with Essie Sure Shot and Essie The Lace is on
Gossip over Gimlet with A England new version of Excalibur
Queen B with OPI Eurso Euro
Tongue & Chic with China Glaze Emerald Fitzgerald

    ReplyDelete
  23. im definitely NOT a fan of this collection. i expected it to be way better.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Rendezvous with You and Strike Up a Cosmo are my favorites.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Not really loving the collection, although I did end up buying Charmed, I'm Sure, Rendezvous with You, and Goldie but Goodie. Thought about Queen B, but it looks an awful lot like Essie No More Film, so I gave it a pass.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Wow. They all look like recycled colors. Whack ChG. just whack.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Wow. This collection is really, really bad. I am shocked. I own more China Glaze than any other brand. I love China Glaze! They have done such epic collections in the past. What IS this? Like...how did this even happen? How did money get put into this train wreck? Who okay'ed this for release? As a collection this looks so confused. If I saw this in a store I would think, "They probably sold out of a bunch of colors so the employees just put a bunch of random polishes in the display to fill in the empty spots."

And the frosts. Streaky, brushstroke-y frosts. WHY?! Frosts should be banned and never made again by anyone! The frosts look even worse because there are some beautiful shimmer finish polishes and foils right next to them, ahhhhhhh!!! >.<

The foils look really strong. Sparkly, smooth, perfectly even. I love Rendezvous With You - it's a really fresh and interesting shade in a foil finish. It's disappointing to see that China Glaze put out typical silvers and golds even though they are very nice. It would have been exciting to see more unique shades like Rendezvous With You in the foil finish, shades we haven't seen before. (A black foil would have been amazing!) An all foil collection for fall doesn't feel right though...

My wallet is happier I guess but still, I'm kinda bummed. More money for Zoya's Satins and Pixie Dusts, lol.

  28. I kinda like frosty shades. Then again, i dont buy them often. But I like that these are one-coaters!

    ReplyDelete
  29. Man there isn't one single polish in this collection I like. China Glaze really dropped the ball on this one. So underwelming.

    ReplyDelete
  30. There are some really pretty polishes in this collection but I don't understand why they have to make three frosts! Does anyone like those?

    ReplyDelete
  31. Yup, not a fan of frosts.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I swear I have a polish like Goldie but Goodie, Public Relations and Scandalous Shenanigans. I was excited about this collection until I saw the polishes which is sad because I love China Glaze. Your swatches are AMAZING, maybe I'll pick up a couple polishes, but I'm just not excited about this D:

    ReplyDelete
  33. Gotta get Strike Up A Cosmo. I'm sure there are others like it out there, but I don't have any that color yet. Thanks for the swatches!

    ReplyDelete
  34. I was just going to say the same thing. Queen B and No More Film look like dupes to me.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Am I the only one who is thinking that most of the major nail polish companies are lacking in their fall lines? Of course it would happen the year I decided to forego the neons and pastels and go for some nice deep, fall colours!

    ReplyDelete
  36. I'm not sure i like this collection that much : / although i do like goldie but goodie. i would like to see a comparison of scandalous shenanigans to cg blue bells ring and goldie but goodie to im not lion. thanks and i am a huge fan!

    ReplyDelete
  37. How about Goldie but Goodie and OPI's Goldeneye from the bond collection?

I've been disappointed with the collections coming out so far this season.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Blech to all the frosty shades! Thanks for all the swatches! I did end up getting the foil polishes because they are things I don't have!

    ReplyDelete
  39. There are a few frosties in there I don't like, but also a few pretty polishes! Especially Tongue & Chic (also cause it stamps). Thanks for your swatches!

    ReplyDelete
  40. I'll add those to my list, thank you!

  41. I don't own Emerald Fitzgerald but I'll add the rest to my list, thank you!

  55. Well, never mind. I'm sure you have other lovely polishes to compare it to.

    ReplyDelete
  56. How does Dont Make Me Wine compare to Essie The Lace is On?

    ReplyDelete
  57. lol i love this comment and i totally agree with you...i am not impressed

    ReplyDelete
  58. I had Orly Rage on my wish list but I'm now glad I didn't buy it.
Strike up a Cosmo is more pink, and a must-have for me. And I'm afraid I
must have Rendezvous With You also!

    ReplyDelete
  59. Queen B looks much lighter and bluer than Essie No More Film to me.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Perhaps the one-coater foils would be good for stamping.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Well. My wallet loves this collection. And I guess it's really nice of China Glaze to let me focus on my goal of not spending money on nail polish this fall by purposefully coming out with a collection where I have no interest in buying anything? Lol.
