OPI Fall 2013 San Francisco Collection Swatches & Review

Hi guys! Today I have the OPI San Francisco Collection for Fall to share with you! This year OPI has given us a super sized collection that includes 6 cremes, 6 shimmers, and 3 liquid sand polishes. Funny enough even though I'm born and raised in California I've never been to San Francisco, the closest I've been is Monterey Bay which is a couple hours south. Should I ever make it up to San Francisco I'm going to have to wear some of these while I'm there!

To see swatches & reviews of each shade click the red more button below!

A-Piers To Be Tan is a tan/brown creme. I feel like this is a good fall neutral, it won't wash you out as much as a lighter neutral might if you aren't as tan during the fall/winter months. I don't really have that problem since we don't really have seasons here though :( The formula was good on this one, it was a nice consistency and easy to apply. I used 2 coats for the photos below, both photos are in natural sunlight.

Alcatraz...Rocks is the first liquid sand in this collection, it's a smoky navy/purple with different colors of shimmer. The shimmer colors that stood out most were pink and gold but it's pretty complex with a lot of colors. I freaking love this....love. If you like textures you will need this...even if you don't like textures you will need this, it's insane with top coat! The formula was great, it was nice and opaque and easy to apply. Dry time was also good, it was completely dried down in about 30 minutes, but it was dry to the touch in about 15. I used 2 coats for the photos below, both photos are in natural sunlight.

Below is Alcatraz...Rocks with top coat. I used a coat of Nail Pattern Boldness Glitter Food topped with KBShimmer Clearly On Top for my photos. This was so pretty this way, photos just don't do it justice! Both photos below are in natural sunlight.

Dining Al Frisco is a sky blue shimmer. This is a bit on the frosty side, I actually was like "ugh...why" when I saw it in the bottle but I kinda like it on the nail. It's not as frosty as I thought it was going to be and I like the color. The formula was great, it was easy to apply and not overly streaky as frosts can sometimes be. I used 2 coats for the photos below.

Embarca-Dare Ya! is a magenta shimmer. This has the slightest touch of a golden duochrome to it, I could only see it in the shade with my hand at the perfect angle but it was there haha! The formula was good, it was easy to apply and the opacity was good. I used 2 coats for the photos below.

First Date At The Golden Gate is a classic red. OPI says this is a shimmer but good luck seeing that shimmer. I didn't even realize it had shimmer until I tried to do a saran wrap manicure with it a few days ago. The formula was good, it was almost crelly-ish! I used 2 coats for the photos below, both photos are in natural sunlight.

Haven't The Foggiest is a silver/grey shimmer. This is very foil like on the nail. The formula was fantastic, it was easy to apply and had perfect opacity. I used 1 coat for the photos below.

I Knead Sour-Dough is a brownish red with red shimmer. I didn't think much of this in the bottle but it's very pretty on the nail. It's one of those ugly/pretty shades that I like!  It does lean a little frosty with the shimmer in it but it was not streaky at all. The formula was good, it had a nice consistency and applied easily. I used 2 coats for the photos below, both photos are in natural sunlight.

In The Cable Car-Pool Lane is a dark berry creme. I feel like I've got a lot of colors close to this but it's a nice color if you don't already have something similar in your stash...very classic looking. The formula was good, it was a little bit patchy on the first coat but perfect with the second. I used 2 coats for the photos below, both photos are in natural sunlight.

Incognito In Sausalito is a blackened navy creme. This was very very dark, it did look black most of the time. The only time I could really tell it was blue was out in direct sunlight. The formula was great, it could easily be a 1 coater depending on how you polish. I used 2 coats for the photos below, both photos are in natural sunlight.

It's All San Andreas's Fault is a taupe brown creamy liquid sand polish. I like the color of this but I'm not sure if I like it with the texture. What I did like about this is that even after it dried it still had a little bit of shine to it, the texture was also on the subtle side both with how it looked and how it felt. The formula was great, it was a really nice consistency and the opacity was great. I used 2 coats for the photos below, both photos are in natural sunlight.

Keeping Suzi At Bay is a blue creme. This is a nice middle ground  between cobalt and navy....I like all things blue so I don't think I'll be shocking anyone when I say that I really like this one haha! The formula was great, I also had no issues with this staining which was nice. I used 2 coats for the photos below, both photos are in natural sunlight.

Lost On Lombard is a dark red creme. This is similar to First Date At The Golden Gate but it's a couple shades darker. The formula was good, it flowed nicely on to the nail and the opacity was good. I used 2 coats for the photos below, both photos are in natural sunlight.

Muir Muir On The Wall is a blackened plum with an intense plum shimmer that has a touch of a golden duochrome to it. This is reminiscent of a couple polishes OPI did in their Germany Collection, it also reminds me of the old duochrome that OPI used to do that I loved so much. The formula was good, it was a bit on the sheer side on the first coat but completely opaque with the second. I used 2 coats for the photos below.

Peace & Love & OPI is a grey based duochrome. This doesn't look very exciting out in the sun but it's a stunner in the shade with a very strong duochrome that shifts from blue to purple. The formula was great on this, typically polishes like this are very sheer and need to be layered over a darker color to get them opaque, but Peace & Love & OPI was nice and opaque! I used 2 coats for the photos below.

Wharf! Wharf! Wharf! is a navy blue creamy liquid sand. Much like It's All San Andreas's Fault when this dries down completely it still has a bit of a shine to it. I like this one much better than It's All San Andreas's Fault...the navy is perfect for Fall. The formula was good but a little bit thinner than I personally prefer. I used 2 coats for the photos below, both photos are in natural sunlight.

Whew, that was a long post! Overall I do like the collection even though I think most of the colors have been done several times below. My pick from the collection is Alcatraz...Rocks!

The San Francisco Collection is officially available on 8/7/13 at professional salons including Beauty Brands, Beauty First, Chatters, Dillard's, jcp Salons, Pure Beauty, Regis, Trade Secret, Ulta and Ulta.com. Each polish retails for $9.00 ($10.95 CAN)

Yay I've been waiting for your swatches of this collection!! Even though the fall palette is not me (brights forever), I need Alcatraz...rocks, my jaw dropped when I saw the topcoat pictures. I love that there's more than one colour of "sand" :)

  4. Thank you so much for these!! I am wearing OPI Get your number (the blue glittery sand) today for the first time. I got it at the Walmart salon on clearance for $3!!! I am forcing myself to wear it for 24 hours before I put a topcoat on it ;) uuummmm I love it as much as I thought I would and I don't hate the texture as much as I thought!! Where might I find that glitter food topcoat? Is that better than SV? I have some comparison requests .... When you get the Fall Essie's could you do OPI Embarca dare you/Essie The lace is on and the 2 duo chromes in each? And also Alcatraz vs OPI MAAH? (Just out of curiosity color wise haha) OPI Cable carpool lane vs Anti-bleak and Keeping Suzi at bay vs Dating a Royal? Thanks so much for doing comparisons...it really helps us commoners and our wallets :) sorry for so many questions! ps my toddler is holding my hand right now and is obsessed with running his thumb over my textured fingers ;)

  5. I feel like a few of these look like China Glaze's Safari Collection from last year :-/
Any idea how close Lost on Lombard is to Adventure Red-y and Keeping Suzy at Bay is to Manhunter?
Also Embarca-Dare Ya looks pretty similar to OPI's Ali's Big Break.

I was slightly disappointed with the collection... my only pick is Alcatraz... rocks too!! Thanks for reviewing!

  7. I really like A-Piers To Be Tan. That is such an unusual shade.

    ReplyDelete
  8. This collection does feel a bit too similar to OPI's last few fall/winter collections. Alcatraz Rocks looks gorgeous though. I'm still in love with textured polish.

  9. I'm not really blown away by this collection! I was excited when I first heard about it because I love fall colours, but now I feel disappointed. The Germany collection was way better. I will probably only pick up a couple shades. Alcatraz...Rocks for sure. I think that's the best one out of the whole collection.

  10. Oh, could you compare Haven't the Foggiest with A England Love is Enough if you have it? Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  11. I have a fairly big collection but I've managed to avoid OPI entirely. Might have to get Alcatrez Rocks though, it's gorgeous. Thanks for the post.

  12. Hi! First I want to say that I LOVE your site!
I was wondering if you could do the following comparisons:
In the cable car-pool to OPI anti-bleak.
Muir Muir on the wall to OPI every month is Oktoberfest
    Thanks!! :D

    ReplyDelete
  13. Yeah, Alcatraz...Rocks is my pick as well. I haven't tried a liquid sand/textured polish yet, and this is the first one I'm even interested in. Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  14. I like Alcatraz and Haven't the Foggiest. I'll have to see Peace & Love & OPI in person. The rest of the collection is pretty much just 'meh'. I feel like there is not too much unique here. Besides, I'm not ready for fall colors yet!! :) Beautiful swatches!

In the Cable-Car Pool Lane vs. OPI Casino Royale
Keeping Suzi At Bay vs. Nails Inc. Baker Street

  16. Could you compare Haven't The Foggiest with Nicole by OPI A Phil's Paradise? Thank you!

  17. This is the first OPI collection I've been disappointed with in a long time. Grr.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Thank you for posting swatches of Alcatraz Rocks with AND without topcoat!!! :)

    ReplyDelete
  19. This collection is "meh" to me...all the colors are just so standard.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Haven't The Foggiest and In The Cable Car-Pool Lane are my favorites! SF is a city near and dear to my heart so I feel like I've got to get my hands on at least one of these shades (:

    ReplyDelete
  21. LOVE Alcatraz...Rocks! It's probably THE must-have of the whole collection! If you ever go to SF, you won't regret it. I had so much fun there!

    ReplyDelete
  22. Great swatches! I am kinda disappointed in this collection. Being from Nor Cal, when I heard OPI was doing a San Francisco themed collection, I was super excited. I love the names though! I think the only one I'm going to pick up is Alcatraz Rocks.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Muir, Muir on the Wall is lovely & so is Alcatraz... Rocks..

    The others leave me underwhelmed....

    ReplyDelete
  24. zzzz. i am underwhelmed with this collection. but wharf! wharf! wharf! is a great name.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Love it! Want them all! Love, a Dodgers fan who likes San Francisco anyway ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  26. I wish they'd do a Boston collection :)

Juleps Freedom top coat doesn't get eaten by glitter....no idea why but I love it

    ReplyDelete
  28. Oh dear - As a geology buff, It's San Andreas's Fault looks a bit too literal! Love, love, love your blog!!

    ReplyDelete
  29. Love the swatches! Can you compare In the Cable Car Pool Lane with Louvre me, Lovre me not, and Muir Muir with Germanicure by OPI? Please

  30. Cupcakesnpolish76August 1, 2013 at 3:42 PM

Not much of a fan of OPI in the years since they've changed their formula but about four of these I *might* actually get. I do wonder how Peace Love & OPI compare to KP's Not Like the Movies. NLTM I think is lighter but they have the same purple/greenish look. Jen could you compare please? :)

    ReplyDelete
  31. Dining al Frisco looks alot like Teal the cows come home, which I passed on for being too frosty!

    ReplyDelete
  32. I no longer own Not Like The Movies but they aren't dupes. NLTM was very sheer compared to this, it also had chunks of silver microglitter in it

    ReplyDelete
  33. Cupcakesnpolish76August 1, 2013 at 4:02 PM

Yes I remember it being very sheer also. They should've named it 'Not Like In the Bottle'!! I was very disappointed with that color! :( OK thanks anyway Jen! :)

    ReplyDelete
  34. LOL that would be the perfect name for it haha! If you were disappointed in that one you'd like the one from this collection, formula wise it's like the exact opposite!

    ReplyDelete
  35. Your swatches are beautiful (as always!). OPI hasn't impressed me with this collection at all! The only polish I'm really into is Alcatraz.. Rocks! Everything else is very similar to polishes from previous OPI collections...

    ReplyDelete
  36. Cupcakesnpolish76August 1, 2013 at 4:42 PM

Yes I might thanks to your lovely swatches. Not to mention useful, as I've avoided buying bottles due to your reviews too. I'd love to start my own blog if I had time but you do the work for us polish horses. Keep up the great work Jen it is much appreciated! :)

    ReplyDelete
  37. Fab swatches as always. While a few of these are kind of exciting, this collection isn't really ringing my bells. And that is kind of sad. I like getting all wired up over a new OPI collection and scrambling to get my hands on the ones I want. *sigh*

    ReplyDelete
  38. sadly this collection is a little ho-hum :( But thanks for the swatches Jen! As always your swatches are those I always go to before I decide which polishes are must-haves.

    ReplyDelete
  39. I agree! The only one that I would buy is Lost on Lombard.

    ReplyDelete
  40. A-piers to be tan is kinda cool. I don't have anything like that!

    ReplyDelete
  41. I like Muir Muir On the Wall, Peace Love and OPI, Embarca-Dare Ya! and Alcatraz Rocks.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Hmm, I think I'll probably pass on most of these cause the shades I do like seem similar to shades I already own.

    Some comparisons suggestions:
Keeping Suzi At Bay to Eurso... Euro and Dating A Royal
Incognito In Sausalito to I Saw...U Saw...We Saw...Warsaw and the navy from Essie's fall collection (if you get it)

Haven't the Foggiest to Lucerne-tainly Look Marvelous

Btw I always enjoy your swatches cause I feel like they're the most colour accurate! =)

    ReplyDelete
  43. Awesome post as always! I'm a little surprised that the last 2 Liquid Sands look like the textures by Milani & Sally Hansen. I like the texture-only polishes, but I expect a little bling from OPI, especially with the price tag attached to it. And Peace & Love & OPI is a must have for me!

    ReplyDelete
  44. What a boring collection on OPI's part...I think I'll only probably get Alcatraz...Rocks! & Peace, Love, & OPI from this collection. Sad.

    Great swatches though! <3

    ReplyDelete
  45. I cannot wait for this collection! Alcatraz rocks is definitely my fav!

    ReplyDelete
  46. Can you compare Muir Muir with OPI's Black Tie Optional? They look pretty close to me :)

    ReplyDelete
  47. Thank you for your blog! You've helped me with lots of NP decisions! :) I would love to see Peace, Love & OPI compared to Essie's For the Twill of It!

    ReplyDelete
  48. And also Muir Muir to OPI Vamsterdam? Thanks :)

    ReplyDelete
  49. Sweet post bro :) I will absolutely get a handful of these in honor of SF. Needs some wild Giants orange but otherwise I like this collection. I think I could have also been more blown away. I think Incognito in Sausalito is my fave.. that Alcatraz Rocks too, which I'm sure will be a fun first sand!

    ReplyDelete
  50. Can you compare Embarca-dare ya to You Only Live Twice? Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  51. Can you compare Peace, Love, & OPI to Essie For the Twill of it when you get a chance? I had them both in my hand today and they looked like 100% dupes in the bottle!

    ReplyDelete
  52. I got to see this in person today. I picked up Peace & Love & Opi and Haven't the Foggiest, but the rest of the collection is a pass for me.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Would you be able to do a comparison swatch for OPI Embarca-Dare Ya! vs. OPI You Only Live Twice (Skyfall) and Essie The Lace Is On? Thanks!

  54. Could you compare Muir Muir On The Wall with Nicole by OPI Shoot for the Maroon? Thx

    ReplyDelete
  55. Thanks for these! Could you compare Lost on Lombard with Skyfall from last year's OPI James Bond collection? Still looking for the perfect red :)

    ReplyDelete
  56. Can you do a comparison of Cable Car Pool Lane with Anti- Bleak and Casino Royale? Love your posts!

    ReplyDelete
  57. Yikes! OPI...not impressed :/ Nothing too special this time... but anyways! I am in LOOOOVE with dark blues and I was wondering if you could do a comparison with the dark blues that you hae including Incognito! Two dark blues I have is China Glaze First Mate and American Apparel Passport Blue. If you have other dark blues similar to those, please do a comparison! I need to get my dark blues ready for fall!

    ReplyDelete
  58. This was really helpful, now I know what to get when they hit Denmark! And the swatches are awesome. Thanks so much for this :)

  100. Hi! Thanks for the detailed worked you've put in. I'm wondering -- the Incognito looks more navy here than it does in your Fall Comparisons photo, where it looks more black (next to Essie's Blazer, which is the other polish I'm considering). Any sense of which it more true-to-life?

    ReplyDelete
  101. Go off the photo in this post...often times when you put a color next to another it can make it appear different. It happens a lot with comparison posts
