Lacquer Lust Holo Birthstone Collection Swatches

Happy Friday! Anyone have big plans this weekend? It's an nice 3 day weekend for me (thanks Labor Day) so I'm planning on taking a little trip down to San Diego Sunday-Monday. Should be fun, hopefully the weather will cooperate with me!

Today I have the Holo Birthstone Collection from Lacquer Lust to share with you! This collection will be available for presale starting tomorrow on the Lacquer Lust Big Cartel site. Regular sale begins mid-September! This is my first time trying Lacquer Lust and man...I can't believe I had never tried the brand before after swatching these! This was one of those collections that I was sad to finish playing with! The Holo Birthstone is made up of 14 holo polishes (1 is a holo flakie!), each polish go with a birthstone and a couple lucky months get 2 polishes.

Check out all the swatches after the jump, this post is picture heavy so load time might be a little bit slower than usual.

Garnet is a dark reddish holo. This has a touch of a gold shimmer to it also which I really enjoyed. I like this color, it's an interesting shade! The formula and consistency was good, it was easy to apply and the opacity was good. I used 2 coats for the photos below, all photos are in natural sunlight.

Amethyst is a dark purple holo! I'm a big fan of purple  holos and this one didn't disappoint. The formula was good, a little on the thick side but the application was easy. The opacity was great, it could be a 1 coater depending on how you polish. I used 2 coats for the photos below, all photos are in natural sunlight.

Aquamarine is an aqua blue holo. The holo in this was on the subtle side but not quite as subtle as my photos make it appear. The formula was good, as was the opacity. I used 2 coats for the photos below, all photos are in natural sunlight.

Diamond is a light grey holo. The holo was also on the subtle side with this one but it was so beautiful. I love soft holos like this! The formula was good, it was easy to apply and much more opaque than I expected it to be. I used 2 coats for the photos below, all photos are in natural sunlight.

Emerald is a dark green holo. I'm sure I'm surprising no one but I love this haha! I love how dark the green is and the holo was nice and strong! The formula was a tad bit on the thick side but it didn't affect application. I used 2 coats for the photos below, all photos are in natural sunlight.

Pearl is a light purple holo. This leans a little bit grey but you can tell it's much more purple when put next to something like Diamond. The formula was good, it was a good consistency and surprisingly super opaque. This was nearly a 1 coater for me which I wasn't expecting from this light of a color. I used 2 coats for the photos below, all photos are in natural sunlight.

Ruby is a red holo. Like pretty much every red holo I've ever shown it was impossible to photograph. The holo was much stronger in person! The formula and opacity was great, I used 2 coats for the photos below, all photos are in natural sunlight.

Peridot is a chartreuse green holo. This is another favorite for me, it's an interesting shade of green and something I don't feel like I own already. The formula was really nice, it was easy to apply and the opacity was good. I used 2 coats for the photos below, all photos are in natural sunlight.

Sapphire is a dark blue holo. This is another favorite for me, mostly because I'm a September baby and this is my birthstone! Aside from that obvious reason for liking it I love the shade of blue, it's nice and deep and it almost has a metallic look to it depending on how the sun hit the nail. The formula was really nice as was the opacity. I used 2 coats for the photos below, all photos are in natural sunlight.

Opal is a holo flakie. I love this one, it's pretty out in the sun then even better in low lighting! I loved this over light colors which is unfortunately not shown because it was impossible to photograph...it was a nice way to make a subtle mani more interesting! I did have some formula issues with this, it was very thick and it was causing application to be tricky. I ended up putting a few drops of thinner in my bottle and it made all the difference. After thinning this was easy to apply and application was a breeze. I used 1 coat over Sation Happy Wine-y People for the photos below, the first photo is in natural sunlight...the last 2 are in the shade.

Pink Tourmaline is a pink holo. This is slightly purple toned and I like how it almost looks like a milky pink. The formula was great, it was easy to apply and nice and opaque. I used 2 coats for the photos below, all photos are in natural sunlight.

Topaz is an orangey holo. I'm not quite sure what I would call this color...butterscotch maybe? it kind of reminds me of those butterscotch suckers I used to get from Sees Candy as a kid. I love this one, overall it's my favorite from the collection because of how interesting it is. One of my best friends has Topaz for her birthstone and she's always hated it, I feel like maybe I should gift her a bottle of this to be like "see your brithstone can be awesome" lol! The formula was good, it was a little bit sheer on the first coat but completely opaque with the second coat. I used 2 coats for the photos below, all photos are in natural sunlight.

Zircon is a blue holo. This is a touch darker and more turquoise leaning than Aquamarine. Like Sapphire, this also had a bit of a metallic look to it when the sun hit the nail right. The formula was good, a bit sheer on the first coat but opaque with the second. I used 2 coats for the photos below, all photos are in natural sunlight.

Tanzanite is a navy holo. This does lean a little bit towards blurple but when it's next to something like Amethyst you can see how blue it is.  I loved how strong the holo was in this one, it was one of the strongest in the collection. The formula and opacity were great, I used 2 coats for the photos below. All photos are in natural sunlight.

Overall I love this collection, this was my first experience with Lacquer Lust and I am super impressed! Lord help my bank account because I foresee myself buying a lot of her older polishes when she restocks them!

The Holo Birthstone Collection will be available for preorder tomorrow (August 31st) at 9:30am PST on the Lacquer Lust Big Cartel shop. Regular sale begins mid-September. Make sure to "like" the Lacquer Lust Facebook for the latest updates on restock times. For international ladies Lacquer Lust is also stocked by Harlow & Co, I believe Katie (owner of Harlow & Co) said she'd have these towards the end of September!

  12. Did you use any special base coat or top coat with these?

    ReplyDelete
  13. nope, I used CND Stickey as my base and no top coat for the photos. I'm wearing Tanzanite right now and used KBShimmer Clearly on Top as my top coat and it's not affecting the holo at all

  14. Lacquer Lust is an awesome company. I want every single one of these. I recently was able to snag another one of her polishes and received it this week. It came super fast and the packaging was adorable. I felt like a VIP for sure. Great review as always.
